    W L.

6 to 11! Lol, here I am again with probably what my 3rd or 4th review as I really never am so moved that I feel the need to unless the service is so bad that it needs to be noted. Actually because prompted when logging on to provide this review I did leave a nice review for Seoul Billiards. It's a solid spot! Back to this one, why 6 to 11? It represents what was an easy 6 minute drive to a local sushi spot to now being extended to an 11+ minute drive to enjoy some sushi in another city. Not a long drive but... Anyway unlike my last food review 5 years ago I did not get to order any food the customer service was so bad. From the menu items it seemed cool but I will never know how good the food is as I will not be returning. The young lady's attitude taking the order, in my opinion was deplorable. Partially attentive in the beginning and went down hill from that point. I canceled what I did begin to order and left. I returned for the manager's contact info and she indicated that she had no way of contacting the manager and that he typically comes in on Tuesdays. At the beginning, she asked if I would be dining in or ordering takeout and I said I would be ordering for takeout. When I was ready I walked to the counter to place my order. She continued to stock the refrigerator out front and then when satisfied she came to the register for the order. I started the order with three items and commented I'd like another but this menu seemed heavy with California rolls of which I do not like. She indicted that one item I ordered had a California roll base and proceeded to show me the menu for an alternative. As I was at looking and reviewing the description of what she recommended, she became impatient asking me a couple of times if I needed more time? I finally just made a choice but asked her if she was in a hurry? She said yes, she was. She said the other customer (father and his boys) sitting were ready to order. These folks were sitting when I came in, and during my time of reviewing the menu initially as well as while she was stocking the refrigerator. It seems they were in the same posture when I walked to the register to place my order. She said she needed to get to them for their order. I let her know that she was in the midst of my order and providing me service at the moment. So I was the focus, or at least tried to share that fact anyway. I then made a rushed selection and asked her to place the order. She said she couldn't because I was blocking the POS system with the menu. ‍ She's the one who pulled the menu and placed it to show me options. Once I was done all that was next was to remove the menu and place it back where she got it from as we were both holding it at one point. She chose to be confrontational at this point with that remark. Then a back and forth started about her attitude and service. I let her know I was not satisfied and that the experience was not appreciated. Continued back and forth and shared that she was choosing to be a jackass. She said don't curse at her so I changed it to she was being a donkey. She told me I came in angry. I can only guess at her assessment and that it was because I just said I'd be ordering take out and nothing else as I studied the menu. Nonetheless, I never raised my voice and continued to try and explain to the young lady that her service approach was less than satisfactory. Her continued words were I'm sorry you feel that way and that she was not the problem basically. I told her did not want to speak to here any more that I'd be sure to Yelp my experience. The chef heard the continued exchange and tried to offer assistance. She stood in the way the conversation for a moment until I made it clear to him that I no longer wanted to chat with her and to have her excuse herself from our presence. She did walk away eventually and he tried to explain that she was the only one working out front. I said it didn't matter and that she needed to respectfully complete my transaction and not rush me as I had not been there long and the others had been sitting there undecided taking their time through a couple transactions while I was there. I mentioned that if they could not help me with the manager's contact info I would be taking my leave and I did so. Again due to her poor attitude, I did not get to experience the menu and just as well, because I found another restaurant and I drove a bit further. I received great service, good sushi and sashimi with an uplifting and lighter experience. The young men at the other establishment were pleasant and confident that once I had their food, I'd be back. They were not wrong, only it was not just the food but the service that has inspired my continued patronage. Hopefully, others who choose to patronize J Sushi - Carson will have a better experience. I just know I won't be back and the reality is it may not matter. As it is said "one monkey don't stop no show!!"

Came here per request of my 5 year old for her birthday and it was a low key night, the place was not busy, their food came out in a timely manner and staff was so nice! They brought out some mochi ice cream and we sang happy birthday. The rolls were good! I really like that they have specials daily.

Fresh, delicious sushi, great customer service, and chill vibe with good music. My go-to sushi spot!

Quick service and great prices! I ordered the Salmon Lover Roll and my boyfriend ordered the Rainbow Roll. I liked that the offered a roll with just salmon and avocado. Fish was decent quality and gyoza was good. They have a lot of options on the menu including sushi, bento boxes, and ramen. It's an average sized restaurant and I've stopped by for an online order in the past and have seen the tables full. Restaurant itself is a casual vibe.

Came to try this new spot local to our area for my daughter's birthday since we love sushi. I'm not sure if it's always like this but there was no AC and it was so hot we were sweating inside (this was early evening in July). Service was good, there was a great variety of sushi, bowls, and other items for those in our party that don't eat fish lol. Food was pretty good and would definitely come check this place out again.

Order was placed online since they have monthly and sometimes daily specials. Came in. Most tables were occupied. My order was almost ready on time. Just had to wait a few extra minutes. Got home, and I was pleasantly surprised with the sushi at that price point. By no means is this the best sushi out there, but you can't beat this price. -Gold dragon. My fave of the night -Baby pacific -Double crunchy -Vegetable only tempura Would totally recommend and come back. (But I can't say I know what their other rolls are like. Also, I probably wouldn't get other rolls here)

First time here. I was a little excited because the menu looked good. We ordered and unfortunately one of the rolls had the small dry shrimps with a terrible smell, didn't even get to try them. We ask the lady to just take it back, no big deal. The rest of the food was not bad. However, when we asked the lady for some napkins she just yes and continued to ignore us (I'm guessing she was made because we asked her to take the roll back) anyway we had to get up and look for napkins ourselves because she never brought it to us. My star is more the service. We didn't complain about the food just asked nicely for her to remove it from the table because the smell was strong. No big deal. But her attitude and customer service after that was not necessary

We found a local sushi spot close by. Small restaurant, but the food was amazing. The Bento box also included a bowl of miso soup. The tempura was fresh, did not have any after taste. I've been to some other sushi restaurants where you can taste the oil was reused. This place did not disappoint. The hostess/ waitress was friendly. It seemed like this was a local place to have sushi. Awesome service and food. Nothing bad to say about the restaurant.

My family loves this place! The price is decent and it has good combo plates for my younger kids as well. It's our go to sushi place since it is down the street from us.

Torrance Food Crawl #442…read more Ali'i Hawaiian Grill offers a minimalist approach with a simple menu that has a limited selection. For the Poke bowls, select your bowl size, pick two from the four or so fish choices, a base (rice or salad), and for most bowls a side or two. After several visits, my experience has been fine each time. Good quality fish and fresh sides. There are also some plate options where you can select Huli Chicken or Kalua Pork. I've tried both the chicken and pork (though not on the plate option), and both were excellent. This location used to be strictly take-out, but now there are two tables inside if you'd like to sit inside. I feel compelled to mention that when I recently visited this location, they had a health grade of B from LA County displayed in the window. Yelp shows that they had 14 health code violations on September 18. Usually, I don't show too much concern for these health scores, but when a restaurant's primary product is raw fish, a lower score gets my attention.

I was a fan of their El Segundo location but I believe it is gone. This place had about 5 or 6 different fresh poke styles available during our visit. We tried the Hawaiian, the Creamy Garlic Crunch, and the Sweet and Spicy. We also ordered the Chips and Smoked Ahi Dip, and the Huli Chicken Bowl. I think I loved everything. The Creamy Garlic Crunch poke was especially amazing. It had a slight spicy kick to it and it was rich and delicious. The chips that came with the dip were obviously freshly-made wontons and I could have eaten a hundred of them. The dip was good but not as flavorful as I had hoped or had in the past. For the chicken bowl, the rice and cucumbers that came with the chicken were excellent. You get a ton of mac salad and it is excellent. The chicken was solid, too. Unless they are hiding in plain sight, the places that just sell fresh poke, without the bowl, are few and far between in Southern California. I love poke bowls, too, but sometimes the poke by itself (with the different sauces and seasoning) is just incredible. This spot serves delicious fresh poke and I will always be a fan.

The quality of the fish was incredible as well. The fish was fresh and diced in good sizes, and I appreciated that the sauces didn't overpower the flavor of the fish. The rice was cooked perfectly, and I was extremely happy with the portion of imitation crab they provided -- most places I've been to are stingy with the imitation crab, but Sweet Salty gave me a portion as big as the rice scoop, and I was thrilled! Back then I did not think of that. And now that I do, I say the breeze of Hawaii would help anyone understand that what he did was a youth Indiscretion, like going for a swim in the cloak of darkness while only wearing a lei. Going to Back Home in Lahaina was not a trip back to the Big Island, I won't say that, but it was a moment of joy inspired heavily by a Hawaiian decor that both bordered on the tragically kitsch and the whimsically fun depending on where you stood or sat. But the true treasure of this Hawaiian micro-isle is their fare-- no doubt about that. After the meal my friend Conrad and I went to the front of the house, where they have the to go section. This is where the kitsch became most circus-y. Although, I did not clip everyhing, I did clip a make your own lei kit, hawaiian stickers, and other things that make the place feel like a tourist trap for Hawaiian hopefuls. For me, the tawdry lessened the impact of the Aloha I heard from the dining room. In sharp contrast, the main dining room had this mural of a whale coming out of deep blue water with Hawaiian florals on the edge of the land that was more transportive to the land where coconuts fall from palm trees and hula skirts are a must for every closet. The main room dining room also had these string lights and sphere paper lamps that made me feel like I was eating at a night market where I could see the stars of a Hawaiian skiy but it was both day time, and there was a roof above me. The food was the situation that needs to be address though, with great respect and admiration because almost every bite was supremely good. My friend Conrad and I first shared a Lahaina Platter- basically their appetizer platter or to be Hawaiian their pupu platter, and please do not go for the easy joke it is not that funny and really kind of base and gross, if the wrong person is making it. The must of the spot, unsurprisingly, is their Lahaina fried chicken. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and kind of like karage chicken but different with the spices and flavors and ocean fronts of Hawaii. I know I did not make sense but I gotta believe that Hawaiian culture made the dish great and Hawaiian culture is partly define by waterfront property. My favorite things from the dish were the Lumpia which are often described as Filipino eggrolls. The pork meat was flavorful, the paper wrapping was on point, like wonderfully thin yet still structurally strong, not crispy, more firm with crisp. The Cinderella story of the day was the spam musubi. The saltiness of the seaweed was present but not in an overblown way, the sweetness of their teriyaki sauce carried savory notes that uplifted the sweet notes, in a wonderful way, their sticky rice was textbook fluffy and fabulous. Overall, I would nitpick flaws. And for this review I do not feel like finding the wrong cracks on a whole coconut skin. My main dish was their bbq grilled chicken plate. I could not finish everything at the restaurant. I had cold left overs at home and they hit the spot in this way that really earned my respect, because cold left overs still holding strong that is like seeing a shooting star while you enoy Mai Tais in a white beach---- living the improbable dream. What was best out of the bunch was their Lahaina chicken. And again, even though the fried goodness had withdrawn, the flavor and textured that remained was still, in a way, intact and in some ways optimal. I just shivered admitting that. I was happy with the food overall, and want to communicate that it was a strong showing for a place that sits within a strip mall. Do not just a shore by the lack of its crashing wave sounds. I also love the name of this place. Like I went back to Lahaina, has personality. Like it is a name that drips from the tongue even though it is long. Pluis, saying multiple times in a conversation makes the place feel important. Conrad had some cheesecake with jello and he loved it. I did not try it, but it was unique and I did not think such a dessert existed. The crust was walnut, I would have thought it would be Macadamia. I definetetly love this place and want to back again soon!
