I absolutely love Tokyo Central, it literally has everything and more. Every time I go, I spend $100+. I used to think Trader Joe's was dangerous... no, Tokyo Central is dangerous. You go in for what you know, and that already gets you caught up, but then you also want to try something new because there's always something new to try. Sometimes it's a gamble, sometimes it's amazing and you're like "OMG! I need this every time," and sometimes you're like "what was that?" And you really don't know what it was because the descriptions aren't in English. The staff is always super friendly. If you go for hot food during lunchtime, you will get caught up because you'll want to pile your plate high and forget they weigh it & you can easily end up with a $24 plate on top of all your groceries. They have great sweet treats that aren't super high in sugar, which is a plus. Their ramens are my favorite. I've probably tried every one. My favorite is the one with the black pieces in it (I think they're mushrooms). I still haven't tried the mushrooms, but the creamy broth mix is everything. They have a lot of premade food options. Some are decently priced and some are on the pricier side. If you go at 7pm or latter they do mark down the sushi and other premade food by 20% off. The thing that's good about going to Tokyo central for premade sushi is that they make all their sushi fresh daily and what's not sold is marked down and got rid of before next day compared to other markets where they sell their sushi that's like 2-4 days old. They went viral for awhile for having a hot food bar, which looked like a buffet but in reality you grab what you want but it's $15.99 a pound. The pound adds up really quick and you end with paying like $30. The food isn't that great in the hot food bar in my option so I'd skip it. The market itself is very pricey it's not a cheap market. So if your planning on buying grocery your gonna pay high prices. I'd go here for a quick sushi roll or some mochi they sell a bag from Japan for $3.99 with red bean that's pretty good. One of my favorite food item is the umami chicken karage with rice that's pre packaged and if you can snag it while it's still hot that great. Its usually on a separate table on in the refrigerated section, It's the one with some teriyaki sauce over it, not the regular one. As you exit you can grab utensils, napkins, wasabi. ginger, soy sauce. Parking is a hit and miss, it's a popular market if you go there at lunch time it's packed or weekends. Personally I drop by to get a quick bite, sushi roll or chicken karage . They do have a food court that has a Japanese bakery, takoyaki , a katsu place. Upstairs they have a sushi bar which is unique I havnt tried it but seems a bit pricey but looks like quality. Looking for something Japanese in food wise, this would be one of the places to go to look for it. Today was fortunate to find poi at this location. I am glad they are starting to bring back the Lalo and the zippy's chili. It was a good find, but I had to go to the Redondo Beach store to get it. Unfortunately, you could not allow me to check in both stores because it was too close to the timing of me going from one place to another, so Yelp, if you're listening, this is my only gripe. No matter the name, this is my go-to spot for Japanese groceries and prepared food. Wow!!! Recently came here because my friends took me and I was super happy to finally shop here!!! This is apparently the largest Japanese market in Gardena (and all of California). It's a very big store that somehow doesn't look as big from the outside, but there are so many things to highlight from here. We were in a city nearby but decided to stop by here because my friends wanted to buy some ingredients. This store was a delight for me as it was so big!!! My favorite section was the many Japanese merchandise of clothes, plushes, and desserts!!! It was super tempting to not buy something haha and I ended up grabbing the box of iconic mango ice cream popsicles!!! It was super yummy and was to my full liking. We ate it straight from the box because we didn't want it to melt in the car ride home. It was super refreshing and delicious. They carry almost every product imaginable from imported rice to sashimi grade fresh fish, and I was able to find a unique sesame mayo sauce that I've been hunting for forever! They also had my favorite fun snack, the pizza flavored Calbee brand pizza chips. The experience is just as good as the selection, they were giving out tons of free samples like super sour Japanese gummy's, sweet strawberries and grilled beef. If you're hungry, there's a food court on the first floor that serves Japanese curry, dumplings, and other goodies as well as as they sit down sushi restaurant located upstairs. you could spend an entire day here eating and exploring. My only critique was that the cashier was incredibly slow. She seemed to be scanning each item in slow motion and would pause several times to simply gaze into the distance as if thinking deep thoughts. Another thing was that it was very, very crowded. I can't remember the last time I browsed a grocery store so slowly to analyze all their merchandise they way I did here. From entry to exit my eyes were locked in on their unique pre packed cold and hot entrees, premier selection of espresso/ liquor drinks, and their tasty snack selection. Having just had dinner close by, I was still sold on filling up my cart for more treats to try later. Some of my picks included a cold strawberry cream puff hot dog styled dessert from their cold pre packed food section, some espresso drinks, a 6 pack of mixed Hawaiin sun drinks, and a few other hits. I'd love coming back to continue to explore as it certainly felt like an immersive introduction to Japanese grocery. I loved their organization, service, and product presentation. Hands down... this is the BEST location of Tokyo Central I've ever been to. The other one in Yorba Linda was okay... but oh my gosh this store is bigger and way better than any other location. As soon as I entered I was tricked into believing this was such a small store but if you go towards the food area, it'll reveal a better look at how large the store is. They have everything; from poke bowls and sashimi, to a WHOLE JAPANESE BUFFET of delicious foods!! They also have this deal for just one cup of soup (I believe any size) for ONLY $1! How neat is that? However the rice was pretty expensive compared to its size, I mean almost $4 just for a small serving? Come on, not in this economy. They also have really cute blind boxes and Asian skin products! They sell really good deals, and also pre-packaged food nice and hot. They also have a dessert area featuring delicious pastries from other bakeries. And I'm so glad but this location had the viral Japanese egg sando!! Really yummy, I also tried their best seller Strawberry Custard Cream bread. Not gonna lie, I expected the bread to be way more softer but I do love the flavoring! So I rate it an 8/10. Also, if you're a major anime lover, be prepared because they also have multiple varieties of anime sticker packs!! You can get them by the line for the cashier checkout. This place isn't that close by so when I go here I grab alot of things to last me till the next visit. I wish they had one closer to SF Valley. Mitsuwa is the next closest thing but Tokyo Central is my go to. You can find a lot of good quality or close to authentic products from Japan. This is a nice market in Gardena which has been at this location as long as I can remember. What I like most is being able to buy local Hawaiian food items such as Portuguese sausage and Lau Lau's. Although prices are double what I would pay when in Honolulu, I understand that shipping these items over can be expensive. They also have a nice selection of mochi and produce is varied and fresh. There's also a meat and seafood section. Take out sushi is freshly made, and are discounted before closing. Upstairs is Waka Sakura, a fairly newer restaurant which serves sushi and other small plate items. We've been there a number of times and enjoyed their selections. read more

Been to the Tokyo central locations in West Covina and Yorba Linda, but first time at this one. Feels about the same size as the other two, but for some reason feels like they have a lot more items. This place also has a restaurant upstairs. We came around 7:30 pm, so most of the sushi and fresh made items were already gone. So if you want some, make sure you get there early. 20% off certain items still applies after 7pm I think, so that's good. They also have an area with a couple of other small restaurants and tables to eat your food. They also have a free water station and microwave to heat up your food. I picked up a wooden spatula for our nonstick pan at home, dishwashing gloves, a bag of chips (Hawaiian Sweet Maui Onion), a bar of chocolate that turned out to have a cookie layer and was deemed not too sweet, and a frozen fish dessert (Samanco Red Bean). I only had a carry on, and was leaving within 48 hours, so I didn't have much room for anything new, so I was already risking it with that bag of chips. If you need traditional vegetables, you can get it here. If you want vegetables that are more commonly featured in Asian dishes, you can get it here. Pretty much they cover the full spectrum of all vegetables, and at a very reasonable price. More than simply vegetables, they have a great selection of fish, meats, you name it. Plus, they have one of the biggest selection of snacks, that were created and packaged in Asia, of any other supermarket in the area. It's really a great place to find that very unique food item, or that sweet treat that you've been looking for. This supermarket also offers a really great selection of prepackaged sushi and sashimi items. So, if you want to grab a great sashimi dinner, and bring it home, this is the place to do just that. Tokyo Central is an extremely large supermarket. They truly carry a lot of stuff. Everything in this supermarket is very well organized. So, you'll have no trouble finding anything that you're looking for. More than just a supermarket, however, they also have a very good food service section. At this part of the market, you can buy premade meals from several sellers. It's really a great place to grab that quick meal on the go or to sit back and just enjoy it at the market itself. Perhaps one of the best things about Tokyo Central is Waka Sakura, which is upstairs. This is one of my favorite sushi and sashimi restaurants in the South Bay. It's really good! This place is intimidating when you walk in if you're not as familiar with Japanese products but they have pretty much everything you could ask for plus food stalls and a sushi restaurant upstairs. The parking lot can be a bit crazy and the spots are small. I tried some of the hot bar items which included a chicken and veggie dish, a silken tofu dish, seaweed salad, and salmon belly. The chicken was so flavorful and loved the root veggies it came with which I don't typically eat. The salmon melted in my mouth and was a good size. The only thing I didn't like as much was the seaweed salad which was a different variation than what I am used to in sushi restaurants but was interesting to try. read more

I love this store for so many reasons but the number one reason is, we don't have a store like this within 100 miles of Fresno. Tokyo Central is always busy, but the aisles are big enough it never feels cramped. The store is laid out in a very easy to navigate way, but if you go around it clockwise you might be in there longer than anticipated. Make sure you have a list! We usually stock up on Japanese snacks, but you can literally buy anything there. Last time we went I bought a hibachi for the back porch. This time my sister got makeup, toothpaste and a set of lucky cats! After a long stroll around the store there are several cafes to the far left and upstairs there is a sushi restaurant. For every $100 you set pens you can get a free token to play the UFO catchers, but I'll be honest, it's hard to win. I was visiting family close by and needed to pick up some mochi flour for a TikTok waffle recipe and Tokyo Central was she last place I remember finding this flour. I've been to their Yorba Linda location, but the Gardena location is the spot! Tons of fresh sushi at the deli, so many eateries throughout the store and every Japanese food product you can think of. They also have a health & beauty section and a stationary section! I left with 2 boxes of mochi flour, 3 shrimp rice balls and a plate of poke from the deli. If you're hungry and need something fresh and fast, Tokyo Central is where to go. Everything is beautifully prepared, the employees are all very helpful and it feels like a much more fun shopping experience than going to a normal grocery store. This Tokyo Central is HUGE! I've been to the one in West Covina and this one has a variety of different areas in this market. This Tokyo Central has a special food court area where people can sit and eat! In addition they had a water dispenser for customers to drink water! Reminder that they discount their food around 7 PM so you can get sushi and some other items for 20% off! They have restrooms in the back and the service was nice! This is basically the holy grail of Asian markets in LA! The place is massive--warehouse-sized--and it feels like you could spend hours exploring. They've got everything: cultural gifts, quality skincare, endless sake options, Wagyu beef, and even an incredible hidden gem upstairs in the back--Waka Sakura, a sushi spot that's absolutely worth a visit. Inside the market, there's a hot food section and even a mini food court near the entrance, so definitely come hungry. My personal favorite is grabbing a bite at Waka Sakura, but honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the fresh eats here. Sometimes they even hand out samples, which is always a fun bonus. Not every product is cheap, but you don't need to spend a fortune to walk away with some amazing treats. I'm so lucky to live in Gardena where we have TWO Tokyo Centrals. I love going to this location because of the selection and it is way bigger than the other one in Gardena (on redondo beach blvd) My favorite thing to get here is obviously the sushi rolls which is there to greet you when you enter to the right. After 7pm, almost everything left on the shelf is 20% off There is a small food court in the market with many different foods to try and also a sushi restaurant upstairs! Sometimes they have sake/alcohol sampling if you're into that. I don't really ever come here for groceries but they do a have a fresh selection and a lot of expensive imported fruits from Japan/Asia. The market is split into two sections: one for food and one for home appliances, make up, etc. Honestly bc of the import tax + tariffs and what not, all the snacks are really expensive now!! This is a very large Tokyo Central located in Gardena. I like how well stocked every shelves are. It's incredible how many beauty and personal care products they carry and the kind of food court stores they have. I think it's nice this particular location offers Gindaco and Kagura. Gindaco offers wonderful takoyaki that's far better than Takoyaki Yama-Chan. Kagura offers great katsu. The upstairs restaurant also has a nice sushi restaurant. Parking can be absolutely stressful during the weekend. I prefer visiting during the weekdays for that reason. Otherwise it's a nice place to get drinks and snacks along with shampoo and deli items. The only thing I don't recommend purchasing from Tokyo Central are the produce and meats. There are other stores with far better pricing and quality/freshness. read more

Tokyo central located on the corner or Western Ave and Artesia Blvd has been at this location for many years now and I couldn't believe I had never reviewed them. Tokyo Central has many Japanese foods and products to choose from but one of the best things now in the store is their hot food bento section. Rows of sushi, handrails, sandwiches, cold ramen, all kinds of lunch and dinner options. A must try for sure! I stopped by Tokyo Central for food after attending Obon at the nearby Gardena Buddhist Temple, and it didn't disappoint. There were plenty of cooked food and sushi options--plus, everything is 20% off after 7 PM! I picked up the curry wagyu beef with rice, heated it up in the microwave outside, and it tasted great. There were just enough small pieces of beef, and the curry sauce was flavorful and generous enough to finish all the rice. The next day, I picked up a jumbo chikuwa nori combo for dinner and a spaghetti Bolognese for the following day. Both were solid choices, with just the right portion sizes for a satisfying meal. I mean where do I even begin after seeing their array of fresh sushi displayed by the front entrance? Normally, I would not take a chance on supermarket/gas station sushi but after just one glance at their bluefin tuna assortment, I was sold and in disbelief quite frankly.
