I don't usually write reviews but I was very excited to come here as I've been searching for a place to get British stuff since I moved over here. However, when I was walking round the store I could hear two workers talking very disrespectfully about Muslim people and comparing Muslim women's clothing to looking like penguins. This is absolutely appalling and as a British person myself I am horrified at the fact that others may have heard this and associated it with the beliefs of British people as a whole. This behaviour is unprofessional and unacceptable and I will not be coming back. read more

Came to the new location to pick up some stuff as I'm originally from Ireland and it's always good to find some stuff that makes you feel back at home. The new store is small and I still think they were trying to put it all together so I will give them the benefit of that. The reason for this three star review is that is slightly overpriced. You pick up a few things and a couple little goodies and boy doesn't really hit you in the wallet. I would still visit here as there's not too many other places, selling the stuff besides online, but just prepare yourself for the steep pricing. Good selection of stuff, but check the dates on some things because a few items were expired and it's kind of a bummer when you spend that kind of money to find expired items in your bag when you get home. read more

A very unique store for the LA area, TBC is a small import market with mostly grocery items from the UK that are difficult to find. In addition to scrumptious British candies like Lion Bars or Smarties, there's also English cooking products like Lemon Curd, Onion Gravy, and Toffee Pudding. I was greeted immediately by the staff here and helped around the store (although I've been to England once, I'm hardly an expert). Everything I bought tasted great, although I must confess I have a bit of nostalgia for the British Isles. Anyway, this gets 5 stars for being a pioneer in English goods in SoCal and for obvious love put into the store by its owners. read more

They are still not open, as they need to finalize some refurbishment items, such as plumbing and a new floor. BUT they have been helpful to still deliver much wanted items to their old customers. I was able to call ahead and pick up my Easter chocolates. Hopefully by mid May their doors will officially open. Staff is helpful and friendly. I absolutely love this store. It has been several years since I've visited, but I have fond memories. Selection of British sweets is tremendous. We have just moved to CA from Florida where it had taken us years to find a good local source of English goodies. This store has no frills, just tons of English bacon, pasties, sausages, sweets and drinks, and I was amazed to find that they sourced their pasties from 4 & 20 Pastie Company in Sarasota Florida where I used to buy from. Great selections of Cadbury Chocolates, Flakes, Smarties, Assorted Dollies and all the sweets to bring you back home. They've also got a good selection of Coleman's, Oxo, Byrd's and all the kitchen pantry staples to help you cook a meal that tastes like home. Crisps, they've got them too! All assortments from Cheese and Onion, Prawn, Hula Hoops and Salt and Vinegar, though I wish they'd offer King's Crisps as well. They import freezer items as well and get Irish bangers and sausages, black and white puddings to help you cook up a proper "Fry"! Even grab a can of beans! To our way of thinking this is the best British import shop in the region and far better than the King's Head in Santa Monica. (And we live in Santa Monica but do all of our British import shopping at The British Connection.) They have a comprehensive selection of canned goods, snacks, candy, gifts, and decorative items. They stock the staples... Walker's crisps, Fairy Dish Liquid, Flake Bars, etc. etc. etc. And they have a terrific frozen food section as well. The shop is neat and well-presented. They have little grocery carts so you can accumulate your purchases. And, what's more, they are friendly. (The King's Head can't claim that!) What more could you ask for? Go. Buy! Enjoy. read more

Just been in to buy some British foods for the Jubilee party and liked the presentation of all the things British. However, the two service people in the store were so incredibly ignorant and arrogant I doubt I'll be back. They made this cute shop feel almost hostile. I love this place! The owners and staff are so lovely, it's a joy to shop there. The selection of British goods is huge, considering how small the store actually is. To be able get everything I grew up with, is a blessing. They have even odered my stuff thatbtbey do not stock, on a couple of occasions. Craving England and all things English? You're in luck the British connection is here. It really has something for everyone in the family. There's a whole freezer filled with British foods. They have a good selection of British potato chips in flavors and tastes that are just not available in America. They have Weetabix and other breakfast cereals that you just can't get here. Their selection of foods is really good. If you see something and you're not sure how to cook it or prepare it go ahead and ask the staff there are very helpful. They carry British beers and other beverages. They have British spices and soup mixes that are really nice. They seem to always be bringing in new items so there's always something new and really interesting to discover. My favorite part of the store is the chocolate section. English chocolate really tastes different and better than the American versions of the same thing. They have a huge range of wonderful chocolate not only from England but from other places as well. I always stock up on allsorts as they are always fresh and delicious. They have a good selection of English licorice as well. At Christmas time they have all kinds of special chocolate for stocking stuffers and even boxed sets to celebrate the holiday. Of course they have wonderful authentic English crackers for the Christmas table. How could you possibly resist these? The owners are from England and they're very kind and enthusiastic. If you want something and you don't see it there great about doing custom orders. I've even ask them about places to visit and stay in England when planning for a trip and they were very generous with advice and really good suggestions. They are such nice people you want to come back just to say hello and chat. They carry a nice selection of English tea cups and tea kettles they are really charming. They also have bags and knick-knacks and things with a British thing. There are always free British papers in the front. My son had a project for school and wanted to make mince pie. Where the heck does one get mincemeat for mince pie? He checked and the British Connection store sold mincemeat (fruit-based only), so off we went. They were lovely people and very helpful and friendly! They had a large stock of Robertsons mincemeat, as well as other snacks and goodies. We even found some EPL soccer gear! Wonderful little shop. I included pics of the successful pie. read more

Been here a couple of times to pick up a few things, the staff is super friendly and attentive to their customers. During quarantine they made customers shout out their credit card information from outside the store because they refused to take Venmo, Paypal etc. Pretty ridiculous. I haven't been back since. Love this quaint place! Its like a little piece of Britain. I came here to look for creme for my scones, and OMG they have them. Its hard to find clotted double cream elsewhere, like VERY hard. The creme might be at World Market but sometimes theyre out of it for a weeks! Im just so glad they have them at the British Connection. I walked in the store and heard people talking with that British accent and it made me feel like I was in the UK. lol. I grew up watching British shows and my favorite novels were by English authors from the Georgian period and Victorian era, so I just loved hearing that accent in person. My (British) Boyfriend and I popped into this cute little shop while we were killing time before visiting with friends in Torrance on Christmas Eve. Yes, they were indeed open the day before Christmas. The owners who gave us a warm greeting as we strolled in were very sweet, friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of imported British Food and Gifts. My BF was getting nostaligic and stated the sights were reminiscent of his childhood and growing up in England. As we wandered around the isles, the owners were chatting to us as well as the patrons who were coming in to grab some last minute gifts and treats with many suggestions of specialty "British" foods in the refrigerated/frozen section as well as naming popular candies and favorites. It was nice to see the owners interact and chat with everyone who came in. It definitely is a place for those transplants from England to get their British fix. It has been a long time since I had been to London but it sure made me feel like a kid again recognizing some of the brands from the short time I lived there. We left with a some gift items like mince pies, Cadbury Roses boxes and a couple other English specialty treats. This is the only store S. of Santa Monica that is British through and through. Of course it gets five stars, there's no competition. I am very fond of it though. It's a quaint and lovely little shop, run by kind and caring people who are British, and sell British groceries. If you want to point click, bang done, there's the Amazon for that, but if you want a little chat and a nice browse, do come here. If you have questions they will answer all of them thoroughly. This is a different age of commerce, where the shop keeper converses with you while you browse and pass the time in cheerful conversation. They do not have a cart app on their website.. yes a different era. If you want to purchase something from the website, leave a contact message or call them, please. Now, what do they have? Many canned goods and boxes, but there is a freezer with frozen bacons, sausages and pies, and a refrigerator unit with other sundries. There are a few nice things like tea pots, and during the holidays they have giant eggs, and Christmas specialties. When I need something British. My son is a HUGE Mars bar fan - not the Mars bars that I grew up on, but the kind only available in other countries - London being one of them. In the past, I'd have to order from Amazon.com but now I simply hop in the car and go down the street! Since we'd just been to London a few years ago, the kids and I had loads of fun reminiscing about the brands and foods we don't usually see - some we recognized what their American translation may be, others not. They also had vegemite that I hadn't talked about since working at an Australian company. They have an extensive Cadbury selection - those of us on this side of the pond only know that brand best for the overly sweet eggs that come out at Easter! They had a bunch of fun tchotchkies as well to help bring more of a British flavor to your home or for any special occasion - such as a tea party! This is one of those things I can use to bribe (yes, I admit it, I bribe/reward my kids for good behavior) my kids with because it's special enough that they can't find it easily and it does still tug on the heart strings reminding them of the family trip we all took! Our Three-thumb review were 3 thumbs up! My son would give it 2 thumbs up on his own if he could for the Mars bars and the chuckle over Spotted Dick in a can (what is that?!)! My daughter loves any excuse to buy a treat or souvenir. They've got a huge selection of British chips (aka crisps) and they're all great except for Twiglets which taste like punishment. I visited London England last year (just prior to the Covid-19 pandemic) and I enjoyed the food. Little did I realize t'd actually miss the food. I searched the internet for English pubs in Los Angeles. Although I did find one, I really did not want to frequent a pub for certain items. I was amazed and relieved to fine a " British grocery store in Torrence. Now I can get my favorite food items like scones, lemon curd, clotted cream, and English toffee, sticky pudding just to name a few. I only have it 4 stars because it's way in Torrance (25 minute drive) from my house in LA. The staff are pleasantly friendly and I like shopping there. read more
