After you eat a lot, you need to take a walk, so we headed over to the Redondo Beach Pier, where we were very lucky in finding a spot. We paid for an hour and walked down to the beach where they have a path for bikes. Watch out, and don't walk on the bike path. We headed right towards the pier and took a nice breezy loop. We were already full, so the food options didn't happen to tempt us. And I wasn't in a shopping mood, so that didn't tempt me either. But I was happy that we happened upon a pelican wandering the same pier and got to watch it take off. read more

A great place, worth going to daily. One of the best places in California. It would be better with an arcade, I would appreciate something like The Fun Factory returning, it's a huge unused place. Still, they have opened some great breweries there lately, the nightlife seems very fun. I do wish they had some more vegan options, they don't really...and veganism is best for the ocean. This is a very cool place to walk around, sightsee, and dine. The pier is like a big circular shape and has fantastic views of the ocean and several restaurants overlooking the water. We ate at Kinkaids which is a great place to eat for seafood. They have lots more restaurants to choose from as well like El Baja, The Crabhouse, and the great Old Tony's. The Baseline: For a "Point of Interest" the area needs to stand out for what it is, be a safe/welcoming environment, show off why it is interesting, and be an experience you want to be a part of for the moment that you are there. Service: No real interaction with anyone maintaining the pier but the parking here is automated. The pier uses the ParkMobile app which lets you monitor you parking add add if you going over. I saw staff maintaining the public restroom area so the pier area is monitored. Selection: Lots of selection of restaurants to choose from here at the pier as well as some souvenir/knick-knack shops to make it fun. The restaurant choices range from seafood to Asian to Mexican to ice cream. Value: The range of prices for food and touristy trinkets run the gauntlet of how much you may wish to spend. The beach area is free but the parking isn't. The ParkMobile app charges a 35 cent service fee no matter your time and 2 hours of parking cost me $4. The parking areas are monitored by staff and police in the area so it is a safe place to park and enjoy the pier. read more

The Redondo Beach Pier brings back lots of memories for me and my husband. We've seen it go through many changes and we were saddened to hear that the arcade had closed. We spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon parking along the avenues on the Esplanade with a mission to walk to and visit the pier. It's a beautiful walk that you can take along the sand. The west side of the bike path is for walking. During busy times, you'll have to share the path with bicyclists. As we got closer to thr pier, we immediately noticed that it was definitely being neglected and looked pretty run down. Walking the pier felt the same, with some food locations having a B health rating. Something that was being ignored was the no fishing signs throughout the pier. People fishing covered almost the entirety of the pier preventing use of benches and tables. We headed toward the international boardwalk and saw that a skate park was built. The arcade was boarded up and nothing was built in it's place. The popular crab/seafood spots were stil lively. This area also had some bars, restaurants, and stores. Overall, the pier is pretty rundown and unpleasant and has turned into more of a fishing pier. There are still great views and a bike/walking path. read more

I'm impressed by how large this pier is. If you're trying to get your steps in, it's worth it to come here. If you walk as far as Baleen Kitchen or the old Joes Crab Shack, you'll be surprised by your step count. If you're looking for a bar, Project Barley and Naja's Place consistently draw crowds and has a lively environment. But the best part of the pier is Redondo Beach itself. We have been here several times and ate at the two most famous crab/shrimp/lobster restaurants *Pacific Fish Center and Restaurant, and Crab House. Love the ocean air and scenery and the great food. Can get very crowded especially on holiday weekends. Plan accordingly; also if you park in the self-park lots or on Catalina Avenue you can save some money if staying for a few hours. read more

They have fun things to do there and the views are great. It has beaches right next to it and sea lions are often around. Prices are high for what you get, though. It also just seems rundown. It needs a refresh. There were plans to do it, but the NIMBY city council shut all that down. There is a closed power plant right next to it that could be redeveloped into housing that the area so desperately needs and would revitalize the area, but again, the NIMBY city council shut down all development. Hence, the area seems old, but not in a charming way. The best thing in the area is the bike lane just to the north of it. read more

Iconic Redondo Beach Pier has probably starred in many movies and TV shows. For some reason, I always think of the Rockford Files when visiting this pier(probably saw it on TV alot and didn't realize it). It is kind of run down, schlocky and tacky compared to more upscale Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica Piers but in my opinion, it adds to its charm giving it a 70s-80s retro vibe. I was kind of expecting Ponch and John, or Starsky and Hutch to be hanging out in one of the bars with dates or undercover busting the baddies. So anyway, I have to give this Pier 5 stars because of the beautiful, solitary pelican I met and this review gives me a chance to post my pelican photo. I would also like to apologize to the pelican for the closeup shot that scared him/her off, or maybe the pelican was upset not getting union SAG scale rates. Christmas Eve 2024. Staying in Redondo for the Holidays. My goal is to visit as many Piers as possible. From the moment I parked I knew Redondo Beach Pier would have a special place in my heart. Growing up in Northern California I always gravitated towards Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This place gave me the same feeling minus the rides, and a smaller scale. Took me a few hours to find every turn and enjoying the people fishing, bird watching, the waves crashing on the pier. Families enjoying the many restaurants and shops. The sunset was my favorite part. Once that sun goes down it's very cold. 95% of the pier is paved. Restrooms available in the parking garage area. This once-thriving, cornucopia of beach and coastal culture has really let itself go. From deteriorating buildings and hazardous walkways to vanishing anchor businesses and landmarks - the spirit of this place has changed from traditional and nostalgic to cheap and gratuitous. The gift shops are stocked with junk and trinkets easily found anywhere in the South Bay, and stereotypical 'beach-vibe' clothing that we've all seen in the malls and t-shirt shops. The food went from themed beach fare to county-fair type junk food. Again, something you can experience at any low-caliber carnival; not what one would expect when visiting a seaside eatery. The parking is dirty and disorganized, with parking kiosks that do not provide change for cash transactions. The upper portion with 'office-space' is sparse and deserted, with very few businesses. The 'Fun Factory' arcade which used to exist in the bottom level is shuttered, and the stagnant water in the backpool and shoreline alike are so polluted, it is literally heartbreaking. It seems nowadays, anywhere you go to a beach in Los Angeles county is best taken in from a healthy distance. So, so disappointed. read more

I don't come here often only when a family member comes to town and likes to go. It's run down, dirty and the stores are your typical cheap stuff they sell at a high cost. There are alot of people fishing off the pier so that's about all it's good for in my opinion. read more

I love how you can just drive here to Redondo Beach Pier and never have to worry about pahking!! In fact, the pahking spots are covered so it never gets hot and it's also well lit so safety is not a concern. It's a Great pier, there are so many options for food, site seeing, People watching and water activities too. You can go to the beach and work on your tan or surf. I've been working from home since 2020 so I do need to work on my tan and get some more vitamin D while I'm at it. I've only surfed on Waikiki and I think it's more challenging to surf here. Or you can just go for a bike ride or a long walk as many people are doing just that. Please be mindful as you cross the bike lanes which are well marked. The pier is seemingly never crowded and I really like that. If you're seeking a respite from your busy lives, you can still achieve that here, even on a Saturday. read more

I love the fact that you can pick your fish, crab, shrimp from the wharf and they cook it the way you like it for free.

They have a parking structure, you can use debit/credit or cash. If you use cash, make sure to have it in the exact amount for the hours you planned on visiting. The machine does not give out change (I did that mistake prior to reading the machine policy) I believe it's a three story parking structure, plenty of parking. During busy season, it's very tough to find parking. When I arrived, it was pretty quiet on a weekday. Some stores were closed or permanently closed down. Compared to a few years ago, a lot have changed. It looks ruined down. There's a handful of shops and restaurants on the pier that you can explore. They have Chinese food, sea food, sushi and "fair" food such as hot dogs, variety of deep fried food. Other than that, the pier is a good place to fish and get your steps in on a hot sunny day. There's a fish cleaning station & plenty of seats. They have restrooms that is on the same level as the pier. Plenty of spots to take great photos and look at sea animals. There's a park near by, you can picnic and hang out with family and friends. It's very scenic. read more

Redondo Beach Pier was originally built in 1888 to handle lumber trade from the Pacific Northwest. This pier is known for its' horseshoe shape and being the largest "endless" pier on the California coast. When planning your visit to Redondo Beach and it's pier, you can plan to park on their underground structure that is built under the pier. There were many floors and plenty of parking. Parking is $2/hour which is really affordable. You can pay by the stall number at one of their machines or you can download the Park Mobile app for Zone 2001 and enter your space number. I prefer the app method since there is no scaled discounts on overpaying for time, and if you have the app you can easily extend your time from the convenience of your phone and not running back to the structure in the middle of your adventures. My boyfriend and I originally started off with 2 hours for our spot, and ended up adding one more hour as we found we needed more time to explore and enjoy. They frequently host events at the pier or you can partake in one of the usual activities like boating, e-bikes, stand up paddle boards, surfing, swimming, kayaking, and more. There were also many restaurants and tourist shops for souvenirs. It was a nice enclosed area so I don't feel like it's too much walking, but still a decent amount of stuff to check out. We came during a football Sunday and the bars down here had plenty of TVs and locals dressed up in their fan gear and enjoying Sunday football with some booze. Personally, we were brought down here by the Glass Bottom Boat attraction and the infamous Quality Seafood. More to those on the individual business pages. Being a little out of the way for us, I wouldn't see us coming here all the time, but maybe once in a blue moon when we feel like getting out of our usual radius. read more

9/14/23 On a rare occasion these days, a day OFF, couldn't pass up stopping by the Redondo Beach pier, and since it's a Thursday, it happens to be a day for the farmer's' market. The weather os perfect, sunny, blue skies with a cool breeze. Strolling by some shops at the pier is always a treat. I love to check up on the fishermen who are eagerly waiting for today's catch. I visited Redondo Beach Pier with someone and the whole place felt incredibly alive in a way that teenagers would absolutely love. There were so many teenagers walking around, taking pictures by the ocean, and enjoying the bright and colorful atmosphere. The air felt fresh and exciting with music drifting from the restaurants and the sound of waves creating a peaceful rhythm underneath everything. Teenagers would love how open and social it feels because it gives them a chance to explore freely and enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed. The service at the shops and food places felt relaxed and friendly which made the experience even better. The value was great too because the parking was very affordable and made it easy to stay longer. The quality of the food and the views was surprisingly high and everything felt clean and well taken care of. The selection of things to do was perfect for teenagers because they could walk, shop, eat, take pictures, or just enjoy the ocean breeze. I have only been there once before writing this review but it left a strong impression on me. I highly recommend that teenagers go there because it gives them a place to feel creative, playful, and connected to the ocean. read more

This place is my past childhood, and present, and likely my future. I came here with my parents when we had first immigrated to the states, how exciting and new everything was back then. Then I came back with friends to enjoy the view, get gelato, ride inline skate, and dip our feet in the cold waters. Then I came back with my bf to bask in the sunset together, hold hands and look into each others' eyes. We talked and walked around to explore all corners of the pier. I assume I'll come back one day with our own little children, and maybe much much later when we're both old and frail to see the view together one last time. read more

The pier is a great place for tourists and locals to visit. There is a parking garage on site at the main entrance. Last we checked, they had automated pay stations. The lot dues get full during tourist season (May-Aug/Sept) during the summer months. Get there before 11:00 for a better chance at parking and before 10:00 to get good parking. Most locals know that you can park on the side streets to the left/south of the main entrance to the pier for fee and walk over. Try Pearl, Topaz, and Broadway for closer parking and A-I for further parking. However, check the street signs for the street sweeping days so u don't get ticketed. The restaurants on the pier have changed over the years, but there is usually a good variety from fast food to casual sit down to higher end restaurants available. El Torito, Old Tony's, and Kincaid's are the higher end ones that have been there for a while with Tony's as the oldest then Torito and Kincaid's the newest. Of these we would just recommend El Torito for the best overall value and Kincaids if u really want to drop a few bucks and have a high end on the water dinner. You can always walk around the pier for free and there are usually some people fishing you can watch. The walking/bike path that runs by the parking structure runs along the beach to the south (left of facing the water with the garage behind u) and ends quite far down. It also runs to the north (right) but closer to the water and with no beach. There are also numerous good restaurants along PCH near the pier, but most are not within walking distance. Eating along PCH and then driving to closer parking or to the garage and then walking on the pier or bike/walking path is a nice day/evening. If u go to the south down the bike/walking path there is a way to go to a path up by the apartments that overlook the beach. If u walk far enough there are several benches scattered on the path where u can overlook the beach and watch the sun set. Careful on the bike path, and use the walking path marked for pedestrians or u might get hit or cursed at by angry bikers. Mind the signs and leave ur dog at home as they r not allowed on the beach and the police occasionally r there to ticket violators--don't ruin ur visit with a needless ticket and by having locals mad at u for getting poop on the path or in the sand! Follow the rules and safety precautions and u will have a great time and no one will bother u. Ask other pedestrians to take ur pic, many ppl r friendly and helpful to do that. I was looking for something to do after going to a Yelp Elite event and the Redondo Beach pier came to mind. I remember the last time I came was years ago. I remember there was an arcade and I was trying to look for it but it looks like it shut down. Parking here was easy, the parking structure had plenty of parking and the rate was $2 an hour which I thought is pretty affordable. There were gift shops, places to eat, desserts, and plenty of sightseeing and people watching here. Lots of people were fishing here and the water looked clean and turquoise. Overall, I find it smaller than the Santa Monica Pier with less things to do, but I thought it was a hidden gem and much closer especially if you want to avoid the crowds at Santa Monica. read more
