I've been to most of the Tokyo Central locations in OC, so I was pretty excited to visit this Torrance location. This is by far the biggest location I've been to. There's a lot of snacks, sauces, foods that I haven't seen at their other locations. Store is spaced well and not packed like other locations. The hot food area had lots of food to choose from and were all pretty tasty. The only thing is that everything was on the bland side, which I guess is more healthy. This place even had self checkout- which is cool. I haven't seen it at other locations before. read more

This location is pretty new. They do have a small court with a ramen shop, a pasta shop and a katsu restaurant. Inside the market they have a hot food buffet style for take out. You just pay by the lb. We have been here many times and really enjoy the food they offer here. Friendly staff and plenty of parking. read more

I have come back several times to shop here and try their prepared foods. The first two times I purchased the chicken karaage, I was very impressed. It was delicious and quickly became one of my favorite items. Unfortunately, the last two times have been disappointing, with this most recent experience likely being my last time purchasing it. I bought a 5 ounce package, reheated it today, and it was inedible. The use by date is tomorrow, but I actually had to spit it out. The breading tasted old, and the chicken itself tasted stale. It did not seem as fresh as it should have been when it was packaged. There was also a noticeable amount of chicken fat left on it, which really tasted off. I have also purchased the sushi here, which was initially excellent quality. However, my last sushi purchase had very dry rice, making me wonder if the rice was old or overcooked. Because of that experience, I decided not to buy sushi this time. I did enjoy a bento box yesterday with rice, salmon, and vegetable sides, so the quality can be very good. However, the inconsistency is concerning, especially given the prices. The prepared foods are not inexpensive, and I expect better quality control. Paying $6 for a small portion of chicken karaage that I cannot eat is disappointing. I also considered buying one of their cooked sweet potatoes, but at $6.99 per pound compared with $2.99 per pound for a raw sweet potato, the price difference was hard to justify. Since a sweet potato can easily be cooked at home in the microwave in about five minutes, I chose to make my own and save the money. I hope the store can improve consistency because when the food is fresh, it is genuinely very good. I did find my favorite cookies and a new favorite...delicious black sesame wafers. And some frozen edamame that I like. Also purchased their sliced meat that is high quality and convenient to cook. I will return though I am less likely now to pick up prepared foods. read more

I was in the area and decided to shop at this location. It is huge. There's prepared bento boxes and prepared warm Japanese food for take out. There's a meat and seafood section, fresh veggies. And an array of Japanese sundry items like dressings, rice crackers, nori, rice, sake and beer. There's also a big variety of Japanese candy and chocolates. The store is clean and workers are very helpful. Scored extra points since I was carded for buying a 24 pack on Sapporo which was on sale. I had to laugh that I was carded at my age! This is the best Tokyo Central in all the land. First of all, the sushi selection is insane. Should you want it in bowl, sashimi, or roll form - they have it all. We did all of the above: king salmon & ikura don ($16.99), yellowtail sashimi ($8.45), Cali & spicy tuna combo. The yellowtail sashimi is such a good deal. For under $10 bucks, you get 6 slices of incredibly fresh yellowtail. And dare I say - the Cali & spicy tuna combo is where it's at. Refreshingly unpretentious and to eat both felt indulgent. Highly recommend. And the hot bar. The hot bar is the reason why you should come. Not only do they have an extensive selection of food - both Japanese and Americanized options - the offerings get swapped out! Mid meal! I was in the area on a Friday morning and wanted to check out their premade bento/sushi, but stumbled upon a hot bar. This is the biggest Tokyo Central I've been to, I've never seen a hot bar section either. There wasn't signs that listed the prices of the hot bar, but it was pay per pound. Since I was there in the morning a lot of the stuff was fresh and there was more variety. Loved visiting the PCH Tokyo Central. It's so interesting to me that every Tokyo Central stores are different. This location had a strong emphasis on fresh fish selection. I wish I had brought my insulated bags with ice packs because I would have loved to purchase some raw fish and karaage cut ready to use raw chicken. Both items were of good value and perfect to make poke or oyakodon. The store itself is very well organized and well stocked I really liked how the aisles were set up in a more vertical manner. Many of the Tokyo Central stores are more of a mix of horse shoe aisles configuration with extra mix of horizontal/vertical aisles. It can be confusing and disorienting but not so at the PCH location. I think it helps with customer traffic and flow because compared to the Gardena location, it feels less overwhelming. I also really liked the hot food bar selection and would love to return again armed with insulated bags. Some of the meat items were very good values even compared with the nearby Nijiya store. Parking is also free and checkout was very fast too. No lines for both self checkout and in-person cash register. Food court has a nice selection of sit down restaurant, ramen, Wafu spaghetti shop, and sweets shop. In sum, what is there not to love? read more

It's nice that this Tokyo Central opened up, as the location is huge and has a lot of stuff. Unfortunately, it's a bit pricier than other supermarkets, so I don't come here frequently. My kid loves the Hello Kitty kamaboko (fish cake), so that's a treat that I get for her here. I love the hot food bar and huge selection of ready to go meals. There is seating in the front to eat your food, and we also like getting soft serve from one of the vendors in the front. read more

What a gem when visiting my hometown Torrance! It's a great place to shop for groceries, Japanese beauty products and also a fabulous place to dine. The place offers in dining options as well as hot food and fresh sashimi/sushi on the go. I've had the opportunity to try their sashimi and it was delightful, very meaty and fresh fish: tuna, salmon and yellow tail. Sushi and sashimi options were fantastic- it's a must try! There are plenty of tables to sit and dine in and the bathrooms are clean. I can't wait to come back to try their hot food corner along with the food court which provides Japanese spaghetti, fresh rice Yasuda, Onodera Ramen, and Kimukatsu restaurant. Options are plenty! Loved this market , it instantly brought me back to my days in Japan. We stopped by to check it out and ended up finding so many delicious food and drink options that we came back the very next day. A gem I finally visited to grab bento and sushi. The quality and selection are way better than mitsuwa and other Japanese grocery stores on the west side. I ended up getting a deluxe sushi tray, poke salad, and two bento boxes. The sushi try has many premium ingredients like squid and clams. The poke is also spot on and flavorful. I love coming here. There are so many fresh foods to choose from and the parking lot is huge and stress free. My favorite is how they always have lots of uni at a very reasonable price, and it's so fresh and tasty. Still like this place ... hit bars are dicey affairs so arriving later than normal allowed time for hot bars I watch the clientele closely. Seeing that everyone was behaving and spying their delectable shrimp shumai, I couldn't resist. I grabbed a few along with some seaweed salad and cool squares of tofu prettily topped with delicate colorful yellow vegetable garnish , I made one last grab for the last rib to test out Tokyo Central 6 months later. The shumai was darn good. The tofu a refreshing contrast and the rib was much like before- spots of it overcooked to a toughness that was beyond but interspersed with heavenly fatty meat marinated with flavor. Next stop - mentaiko pasta at Pasta Stories also inside TC: a healthy serving of spaghetti perfectly cooked and seasoned with fish roe, chili and butter then topped with seaweed- it's a bargain. Of course if I made it at home I would triple the sauce and seaweed, but that's just me. The self order screens bug the crap out of me... the first couple times using them is never self explanatory and it seemed to demand that I enter my phone number. With all the weird phone calls and texts I get lately, hell to the no am I giving it out randomly any more. our neighborhood market, we come here 2-3x weekly! this is probably the biggest Tokyo Central in SoCal (& we've been to most of them). you can find just about everything here (we haven't noticed any shortages yet due to the tariffs). the hot/cold food selection is really good... sashimi, soba, yakitori, etc. there's a huge selection of booze & ready-to-drink teas. I love how they have a dedicated section that rotates with items from different regions in Japan; one month might be Hokkaido, another month Okinawa, etc. we also love buying their potted plants; Japanese eggplant, shiso, etc., most of the plants we've bought here have done really well. the food court is also a great place to hang out & meet-up w friends. there are new ramen & pasta restaurants & more vendors coming soon. highly recommend to check out T.C. This newly opened Tokyo Central is awesome! It's located right next to Best Buy. It doesn't sell the novelty items that the other one in Torrance or Gardena, but I like this location more because of all the premade meals that are located in two separate locations of the market. There's premade sushi and sashimi on the right hand side. They even sell sushi boats. Perfect for parties. A great assortment of premade meals on the left hand side: Teriyaki chicken; salmon bento boxes; ramen; and udon, to name a few options. I've purchased the first two on separate occasions, and they are delicious. The white rice they use is cooked to perfection. Very soft. It's a full service market with fruits and vegetables in the back. A large variety of snacks. I keep buying the sweet potato chips, fried and sweetened. They taste like candy. By the way, there is also an adjacent sushi restaurant with its own entrance. I'll need to try that at a later date. read more

Just attended their Soft Opening before their Grand Opening and damn..... this place is like a whole different world of epic-ness once you enter from the main lot that is shared with a Best Buy that Chester from Linkin Park (R.I.P. forever, Chester!) used to go to all the time when he was alive! Once you enter, it feels like a mini Asian mall that has its own restaurants, sushi shop, Whole Foods-like pick and choose Asian foods and MORE within this mega grocery store. You forget about all the other businesses that used to have this spot. That's how great Tokyo Central has taken over in such a positive way. Their snacks are always randomly on sale. The pick and choose fresh foods feel like a buffet, even though it isn't. They give their customers the trust they would give if they were actually in Japan, so please....newbie customers....adhere to their common sense/courtesy rules; will ya!? We NEED mutually trustworthy spots like this these days!!!! As for the ambiance, the whole vibe is very welcoming because of their super nice employees who cheerfully help you down the aisle when you look confused. There's NO confusing language barriers at all either. Their staff is pretty dope because they are of many different cultures, which reminds me of Torrance and Carson people all around. A follow-up to my 5-star review: One of the things I buy here regularly every week is the cabbage salad with the garlic-soy dressing. I love the dressing and I've asked the stores here in Torrance and Gardena if I could get/purchase an extra little container of dressing. The answer is always NO. Why not? Bottle it and it'll sell. Tokyo Central has just added its newest location on Pacific Coast Highway. Right on the corner of Hawthorne Boulevard and PCH, this location is very easy to find. Plus, they have a gigantic parking lot, so that should never be a problem. This new Tokyo Central is a very-very large supermarket. They have all kinds of everything. Most notably, they have the Asian orientated food items that this market is known for. In terms of design and layout, they have some restaurants near the entrance to the market. From there, you go back into the various sections of the supermarket, which are all very well organized, very well spaced, and easy to find what you're looking for. For those of us who know about Tokyo Central, it has always been a great place to get those important, essential, and unique food items. This location is no different. The staff here are all really helpful. They will guide you and help you in any way you need. Overall, this is a great asset to Torrance and the greater South Bay area on the whole. The newest Japanese grocery store chain, Tokyo Central, is finally open in Torrance! This location is now my new favorite, which is so huge and packed with so many Japanese groceries and goodies! I always do my shopping here and it's the best place to get fresh and authentic Japanese ingredients. They also have a food court to get something to eat after you go shopping, and even a sit down sushi restaurant as well. Their alcohol license is still pending, but you'll be able to buy some beer and sake by early 2025. Checked out the grand opening today. It was the first time I have seen the huge lot shared with Best Buy's and other stores was almost completely full. Lots of people inside with checkout lines from the front to the back of the store, and people outside in line for drawing. The store is larger than the other nearby Tokyo Central store with more selections and a bit more spacious to move about. It's definitely the place to go if you're looking for Japanese products. Overall for the Grand opening, there were too many people, hard to find parking, and I didn't find deals that were great, we didn't end up getting anything from the market because the line is from front to back of store. There are 3 food court stores, we tried the Taiyaki which was good, and rice roll which was a little disappointing. The sushi restaurant (Van Show) looks interesting which we want to come to back and try. read more

This location just opened in December 2024 so it's still fairly new and clean. I was here with my sister back in May on a Saturday around 2:30pm. This is located in the plaza at the corner of PCH and Hawthorne Boulevard. It's a fairly big plaza with a Best Buy, and parking is plenty, but Tokyo Central is popular so may not be able to park close to the store depending on the day and time (we did find a spot not too far though). My first thought? This location is biiiiig! It was overwhelming being my first time inside and I didn't know the best way to go about as there were aisles going vertical and horizontal (and some didn't go through). Due to its size, we did find more of a variety of stuff than at the other locations we've been to. For instance, I usually only see the bottled peach water, sometimes the muscat water, but here I found the yogurt water! The prepared food (bentos and sandwiches) and buffet areas were bigger, too, so a lot more options to choose from. I wouldn't say prices are cheap, so I always need to control myself at any Tokyo Central, but I definitely could spend hours in this location, checking out every item in every aisle. **Just a note: Items are a lot cheaper when they go on sale at Mitsuwa, so if need/want to save money, check both ads when going shopping. read more

Interior is massive with lots of varieties and selection. Their products are well displayed and well organized. They also have food that you pay by the weight. It's not that expensive either.
