For those that are looking for a Japanese market coming to Tokyo Central it's a great experience. They have an indoor buffet style hot bar so you can pick whatever items you're looking to eat or try and then you pay by the weight of the box. I opted to try all sorts of different foods from the shrimp shumai, crispy tempura shrimp, etc... great experience. If you're looking for fresh foods such as premade, sashimi and fish, I think it's better than H Mart and I also believe that the fish and rice quality is better than 99 ranch market. Took your express had Uni for $12.99. Blue fin tuna, so it's a must try for their premade box sushi and the fish quality is great. If you're looking for instant noodles or Japanese traditional snacks, Japanese whiskey or produce it's a great place. They sell everything you're looking for everything to have a nice Japanese meal. And the market is ultra clean no fish smell either. I've been to other Asian markets where I go to the seafood section and it stinks, but this market doesn't smell at all. read more

Improvement since my last visit! Was in the neighborhood again and stopped by for a quick snack as well as cash back. Found a 0.7 ounce cup macaroni w/tuna salad for 3.99. Also got a nice cup of mixed fruit in the packaged foods to go section for later. Had the tasty macaroni with tuna in my car and my own water bottle. On a weekday middle afternoon, the transaction was easy. Made my way to where the single line is for the couple of open registers and was called up. The super pleasant (Filipina-- I am quite familiar w/the native language I overheard her briefly speaking) cashier greeted me and scanned my order. She also provided me a utensil upon my request along w/a napkin or 2. The cash back request for $20 was easy unlike in my previous review last week w/a different cashier last week. Love this market.....you can find anything from fresh fruits, veggies, meats, bread, cosmetics, packaged meals and even restaurants. So much in such a small building. It is a gem of a place and wish I had more time to go through every aisle and try something new every time. I usually go to Mitsuwa, my family and I came down here for the acupuncture, we decided to stop by at this Jp market location in Torrance. The space just a bit narrow but surprisingly there are plenty of Jp products included desserts, pastries, fresh cut fish. We got some Mochi, some kind of snacks. If you want Jp products, make sure you check the packages. Some are imported from either Taiwan or China. I still prefer Taiwan over China :). There is actually another location in Yorba Linda since it's close to me, it would be my favorite spot from now on. Plenty of parking spaces. Daiso is next door. read more

So many Tokyo Central locations in the Southbay. Did they forget about the San Gabriel Valley? LOL. I've been to this location a few times when I'm in the area. I usually buy their rice triangles. It's pretty good, and especially for $1.99 each, you can't go wrong. I usually by the tuna and the spicy tuna ones. Yes, it's mostly rice and not too much tuna. But for that price, ni complaints. It'll definitely hold you off on between meals, and of course if you're stuck in rush hour traffic. Tokyo Central also sells Japanese groceries, instant noodles, fresh fruits and vegetables, and of course more types of sushi rolls. I really like this place! This location is usually not as busy as the Gardena location. Parking is definitely more abundant as it's located on a large plaza at the corner of Sepulveda and Hawthorne Boulevard. This Tokyo Central location is quite small compared to others. We were hoping to find warm food or bento boxes to eat, but unfortunately, they didn't offer any. There was no hot food section. I did see some cold food available, but you'd need a microwave to warm it up, which isn't very friendly for travelers. That was a bit disappointing, especially since we were looking for a quick meal. In the end, we bought some Japanese snacks for the kids. Finally, we decided to drive to another restaurant nearby to dine in. This branch doesn't really have anything special. read more

Tokyo Central is one of the best Asian markets to go in Torrance! We are local and it's also on my way to work so, when I forget to bring lunch. I stop into Tokyo Central and grab some sushi and onigiris to eat for lunch. So, so convenient! My kids love coming here also and my goodness do I SPENDDDDDDD every time I shop here. It also doesn't help that there's a Daiso right next door, but nonetheless by big back leaves happy all the time! Haha! read more

Nothing really bad to say about this place. It's the newest Tokyo Central Market in town. I only gave it 4 stars because I was comparing it to the Tokyo Central Market in Gardena. This place isn't as big and I didn't see any food courts either. They did have the most expensive pack of strawberries that I didn't find at the one in Gardena. Hope this worker gets a raise lol. Check out my photos for what I'm referring to, especially the "Quires" Churu puppy dog meme, the Choco Coronet reference to Konata from Lucky Star, the reference to Luigi in the Mario animated series, several other anime and Avatar the Last Airbender reference, Animal Crossing, Kirby, and other video game references (especially a random Shadow the Hedgehog), etc. It made it fun to go throughout the store to find other signs and references out there. It is a smaller Tokyo Central as it's one without a separate restaurant or eatery/food court (I'd argue that West Covina doesn't have one since Hanzo Ramen hasn't been open in forever, but I digress). I wish we had a Tokyo Central closer to home...so I'm always excited to visit one when I'm in the Torrance area. We last visited on Sat, 7/29/2023 after a summer visit to Torrance Beach. This store is jam-packed with so many Japanese goodies. It's like one minute you're in California, you close your eyes and walk in and BOOM, now you're basically in Don Quijote in Japan. They have sauces, fresh produce, ready-made bento boxes and sushi (which are kind of pricey), bread, and cup noodles that fill the wall. They also are well stocked in snacks, candies, makeup, haircare, skincare, etc. I spent so much time in the latter parts of my list and saw a lot of items that I purchased from Japan months back. One thing, I wish they carried more of was different brands of matcha - I was a little unimpressed with their selection. Customer Service: One downside, the workers aren't as cheery..def not as cheery as in Japan lol! The store was busy when we went so the cashiers prob weren't in the greatest moods. Tips: Check out the clearance sections..which funny enough...are near the restrooms. We got various cup noodles that were significantly cheaper since they were about to expire soon. Parking: Lots of parking since the store is located in a plaza, we never have any issues. Parking plenty outside but the store itself is small with limited selections. It definitely is an LA County area store and looked shabby inside and out. The inclusive bathroom has the urinal and the regular stall housed together. I went in to use the stall only to have another person use the urinal. I was done with my business but I didn't have the guts to trot out while the person is still urinating. Eek! And yes, I checked the sign on the door one more time after leaving the bathroom. It was for both biological sex! Unless I had to drive over to LAX, I doubt I will be returning again. read more

The smallest Tokyo Central in the area, but still has all of the groceries you need. The prices are as fair as the other locations in the area. There are always a bunch of lines open for checkout, so you never have to wait. They have pre-made food ready to go That always taste fresh and homemade after microwaving. The good: I love coming to this grocery store and looking at all of their fun snacks! I like this Japanese grocery store more than Seiwa and Mitsuwa because it has a more authentic feel and seems like the prices are better. You can order sushi for catering here. They have a lot of beauty supplies as well as ready-to-eat foods. There's plenty of parking. They're next to Daiso. The bad: I bought a donabe clay pot here for $37 and then later found a ton of them at a Vietnamese market for as low as $4 and up to $20 (though the ones I saw at the Vietnamese market were made in Korea or China). Like every other Japanese store, stuff is expensive from Japan. The yuzu drink I got at Mitsuwa was cheaper than here. The interesting: The interior is a lot busier looking than the other Japanese markets nearby. I shop for their salmon and tuna poke plate and the jelly cups often when I visit. They have the kurobuta pork, an array of seafood sushi and other food to go. It is nice to see what are this store would offer that other stores don't have or is a rarity that they have it. A bit pricey for other items but understandable. One of the cashiers were using a cell phone when I put my bag and groceries on the counter. Okay, it was not busy at all; no customer was in front of me, nor behind me. She started to scan each item. As soon as she's done scanning, she went back to her cell phone. I paid, and she gave me a receipt. Then she went back to her cell phone. One can never go wrong with a Tokyo Central visit. The only difference I noticed is the volume of selections compared to the one in Gardena, Costa Mesa and Yorba Linda, and also the absence of a food court, which was our initial purpose of visit. Crowd is kinda different too for some reason or maybe I was just over- observing it. For the amount of time and traffic it took us to get here and the experience, it's a one and done for us, I'd say we'd stick to Yorba Linda, Gardena, and Costa Mesa locations. read more
