The food is great. I love the appetizer platter. Great cakes. Live music this Friday. Disappointed there's no draft beer on a Friday night. Service was a little slow. I love that they have a Togo side and dine in side. Free covered parking in back. Coconut cheesecake was tried and was very very good.

I have been to Hawaii. A friend of mine won a give away by stuffing a ballot box at a grocery store, and then he gave me the plus one ticket. Was it a trip gotten via ill ways? Back then I did not think of that. And now that I do, I say the breeze of Hawaii would help anyone understand that what he did was a youth Indiscretion, like going for a swim in the cloak of darkness while only wearing a lei. Going to Back Home in Lahaina was not a trip back to the Big Island, I won't say that, but it was a moment of joy inspired heavily by a Hawaiian decor that both bordered on the tragically kitsch and the whimsically fun depending on where you stood or sat. But the true treasure of this Hawaiian micro-isle is their fare-- no doubt about that. After the meal my friend Conrad and I went to the front of the house, where they have the to go section. This is where the kitsch became most circus-y. Although, I did not clip everyhing, I did clip a make your own lei kit, hawaiian stickers, and other things that make the place feel like a tourist trap for Hawaiian hopefuls. For me, the tawdry lessened the impact of the Aloha I heard from the dining room. In sharp contrast, the main dining room had this mural of a whale coming out of deep blue water with Hawaiian florals on the edge of the land that was more transportive to the land where coconuts fall from palm trees and hula skirts are a must for every closet. The main room dining room also had these string lights and sphere paper lamps that made me feel like I was eating at a night market where I could see the stars of a Hawaiian skiy but it was both day time, and there was a roof above me. The food was the situation that needs to be address though, with great respect and admiration because almost every bite was supremely good. My friend Conrad and I first shared a Lahaina Platter- basically their appetizer platter or to be Hawaiian their pupu platter, and please do not go for the easy joke it is not that funny and really kind of base and gross, if the wrong person is making it. The must of the spot, unsurprisingly, is their Lahaina fried chicken. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and kind of like karage chicken but different with the spices and flavors and ocean fronts of Hawaii. I know I did not make sense but I gotta believe that Hawaiian culture made the dish great and Hawaiian culture is partly define by waterfront property. My favorite things from the dish were the Lumpia which are often described as Filipino eggrolls. The pork meat was flavorful, the paper wrapping was on point, like wonderfully thin yet still structurally strong, not crispy, more firm with crisp. The Cinderella story of the day was the spam musubi. The saltiness of the seaweed was present but not in an overblown way, the sweetness of their teriyaki sauce carried savory notes that uplifted the sweet notes, in a wonderful way, their sticky rice was textbook fluffy and fabulous. Overall, I would nitpick flaws. And for this review I do not feel like finding the wrong cracks on a whole coconut skin. My main dish was their bbq grilled chicken plate. I could not finish everything at the restaurant. I had cold left overs at home and they hit the spot in this way that really earned my respect, because cold left overs still holding strong that is like seeing a shooting star while you enoy Mai Tais in a white beach---- living the improbable dream. What was best out of the bunch was their Lahaina chicken. And again, even though the fried goodness had withdrawn, the flavor and textured that remained was still, in a way, intact and in some ways optimal. I just shivered admitting that. I was happy with the food overall, and want to communicate that it was a strong showing for a place that sits within a strip mall. Do not just a shore by the lack of its crashing wave sounds. I also love the name of this place. Like I went back to Lahaina, has personality. Like it is a name that drips from the tongue even though it is long. Pluis, saying multiple times in a conversation makes the place feel important. Conrad had some cheesecake with jello and he loved it. I did not try it, but it was unique and I did not think such a dessert existed. The crust was walnut, I would have thought it would be Macadamia. I definetetly love this place and want to back again soon!
It sure did hit the spot. The food was very good. I haven't been here in a great while but I do remember the short ribs being a little meatier. Nonetheless it was still good. The spam fried rice is a meal by itself. Hawaiian BBQ/Island cuisine at its finest here. I would day it taste like back home in Lahaina. The service was good. Our server came by often and everything came out in a timely manner. It was full but not too packed for a Sunday. I'll be going back sooner than later. The rest rooms are always clean and there's plenty of them.
I forgot to check-in but we just left there and are home now. Food hit the spot and husband who is from Hawaii praised them on the loco moco. Said it was the best one, yet, on this side of America. I had the Hawaiian fried chicken and attacked it that I had almost no room for anything else on my plate. I definitely recommend. Our server forgot to bring us our Portuguese sausage wontons but when he did, they were also delicious.
This place is located in a plaza so there is plenty of parking. I love the vibes inside. It felt like beachy/Hollister type vibes. The staff was very nice and prompt. Their menu and portion sizes are massive. This is what we ordered. I ordered their poke plate. It comes with three sides usually comes with rice Mac salad or you can substitute for a Chinese chicken salad, which is what I did and a side of fries this plate was awesome, but the dressing that comes with it is a little too powerful kind of like that wasabi mustard type of dressing I'm pretty sure they have other options but next time I'll know my friend ordered one of their combo plates, which was also huge massive portions with the meat, a wonton soup and the appetizer sampler. The fried chicken that came with the appetizer sampler and the combo plate was phenomenal. It was like a cross between Filipino chicken, adobo and fried goodness and I've never had anything like it and I highly recommend it if you're looking to kill your hunger love big portions & comfort cooking This is the place for you probably one of the top tier Hawaiian places I've been to so far.
That bacon fried rice is still good!!! Love their crispy with a Hawaiian slight sweetness to their fried chicken. Ambiance and customer service is always on point. I didn't get the short ribs this time but they are so tender, sweet and delicious with that grilled flavor. If you are in Carson it is a must try.
If you're craving Hawaiian food, this place honestly is even better!! Big portions, traditional flavors, freshly made, affordable prices and the whole experience minus the costs of traveling to Hawaii! I love Hawaiian bbq, we came on Saturday afternoon for lunch and service is prompt and efficient, we were seated right away. Love the vibes and Hawaiian art on the walls. The kalbi short ribs were sooo good and a big portion of more than 3 ribs! The fried chicken is tasty and unique too, kind of a sweeter taste. Overall great place for traditional fresh Hawaiian food,highly recommend!!
To start, you need to get the coconut haupia cheesecake. I do not like cheesecake, but this was the lightest, freshest, most wonderful dessert I ordered in 2025. I ordered just the plain haupia pudding, which I was eating outside. One of the guests told me I needed to try the cheesecake, and ended up buying me a slice when he went in to order his food. I am so so thankful for that man because it was really really delicious and I will definitely be back. This place is absolutely amazing. I got a takeout plate and some desserts, but I am so eager to come back to try more of the menu. I got the combo plate with beef, kahlua pork, and chicken katsu. It came with sides of potato mac salad and this AMAZING cabbage slaw that was dressed in an asian sesame vinaigrette. Every bite was literally addicting. I highly highly recommend the takeout for lunch.
Decided to have Hawaiian food and try a new place but maybe I should've stuck with soemthing familiar? The friendly staff and the amazing interior was so welcoming alongside the well priced drinks with all different games on each TV made this place feel amazing. Once I started off with the spam musubi, I was surprised by how it was bland and un flavorful it was. Even though it had sauce on top it tasted like I just had rice with meat as it was lacking the seasoning. Our entrees arrived, which looked phenomenal, but was then again hit with blandness even though it was smothered in sauce. The burger was bland and the Mac salad tasted like mush. Maybe some changes to the sauce and adding more seasoning may help these amazing looking dishes as I wanted to enjoy them but sadly couldn't.
This place was recommended to me, and I'm so glad we went one afternoon! The service was good, and everything came out in a decent amount of time. There were so many options on the menu, and I'm glad I chose the combo with the Lahaina fried chicken, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, and Fried rice. I thought the portions were decent. I wished there was a little more BBQ chicken on the plate, but outside of that, everything tasted wonderful, and I would go again.
Great food for over 20 years! If you love Hawaiian food, this is a must stop the next time you're in the Carson area of SoCal. I haven't been here in years because we moved out of state but whenever we do, it's always the same great food and never disappoints. Highly recommended establishment!

Hubby and I were headed to a Galaxy game and was looking for a good hawaiian spot to eat at. I love hawaiian food, especially comfort food. Went on Yelp, did my research per usual and found this gem.Back Home in Lahaina did not disappoint. Restaurant felt just like being back at the islands, good vibes. They even have a small area with all the snacks and desserts to go. Bought some snacks to go for the game. The food here is bomb and the portions!? They are huge! I got the Loco moco and hubby got the fried chicken plate. It was good, I wish I could've eaten it all but had to take my leftovers home. Now the main reason why I came. The desserts. Unfortunately they were out of alot of the desserts, but luckily still had the haupia cheesecake. OMG. I should've gotten the whole pie! but we were heading to a game and no where to store it. Definitely will be back when in the area. Already told hubby to get the whole pie for my birthday. read more
Wonderful hospitality and cute gift shop. Chicken thighs were tender and flavorful (used a side of teriyaki sauce). A little underwhelmed by the presentation but it's chicken and rice so I guess I should adjust my expectations. Parking garage was full after the lunch hour but managed to get a quick spot but I could see this being a challenge during lunch time. Overall it was good but not sure I'd go out of my way to go back unless in the area. read more

Great evening of food, live Hawaiian music and Hula dancing on Friday! Absolutely the reason to go and the food is the cherry on top. Go early if you have more than two in your party. Otherwise expect a wait to be seated. I had the Kalua pork and cabbage It was delicious. Something on the menu for everyone. You can also split an entree if you're not that hungry. My party decided to share some desserts so we ordered one of each with four spoons. They were ok. I was a little bummed about that. That was minor compared to the ambiance at Back Home In Lahaina. Staff was very attentive and full of aloha! read more

This is one of our favorite Hawaiian spots! It's great for large groups and to take family and friends. It really does taste like being back in Hawaii. I love the decor around the restaurant. It's like you're eating on the beach. Also, all the prices are super affordable and the portions are huge! My favorite thing to get there is the Simin soup, it's super flavorful and filled with noodles, meat, fish cake ans much more. My family also enjoys getting the combination plates and the rice and noodle dishes. The staff is super friendly and very attentive. They also will give recommendations if you ask there's really nothing you can go wrong in getting. (Hawaiian food is our favorite) We love going back and celebrating big family moments and definitely recommend to anyone who wants to Hawaiian food in the area! read more
I love this place for one thing so I can't recommend anything else from the menu but the Lahaina Fried Chicken. Had it many times over the years and can't express enough how much I enjoy them aside from writing a yelp. The LFC plate comes with mac salad and Hawaiian salad. Parking can be a challenge during lunch so either go early or go later. Attached picture of menu if you just want to order to go (but it tastes better dine-in). read more
Delicious fish tacos with huge portions! There's also a little shop where you can grab pastries--such a nice Hawaiian vibe throughout the place. We were looking forward to getting the Haupia cheesecake, but unfortunately they sold out. Great spot for a casual meal with friends. read more

This was my family's first time visiting Back Home in Lahaina in Carson, and overall, it was a mixed experience. I'm not sure if we'd come back for a full meal, but there were definitely a few standout items. The absolute best part of our visit was the dessert. We tried the Haupia cheesecake and the chocolate cheesecake, and both were excellent. Creamy, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the meal. We also sampled some of their shortbread cookies with chocolate chips, which were good, but the cheesecakes are really what we'd come back for--especially the Haupia cheesecake. That's the one item we'd 100% repurchase. For the main dish, I ordered the fried chicken plate, which came with rice, mac salad, and a side salad. The fried chicken itself was very good--nicely seasoned with a subtle sweetness that worked well. Unfortunately, the sides didn't live up to the chicken. The mac salad, which is usually one of my favorites, was lacking flavor, and the salad was very simple--just cabbage tossed with sesame oil and sesame seeds. Overall, the food was hit or miss. The fried chicken and cheesecakes were solid, but the sides fell flat. If we do return, it would be strictly for dessert. read more
Dined in on 2/1/26 and everything was still as good as expected. Sundays are usually very busy but today, we got seated right away which was nice. The place is still packed and it is a favorite among large groups. Birthday parties are always celebrated here bc it's fun, service is great and food is generous. We ordered the Lahaina Platter 1 which comes with Lahaina fried chicken, kalua pork and beef teriyaki, rice, mac and cabbage salad. The beef could be tender but everything else was delicious. My son ordered his favorite, spam fried rice with scrambled eggs on top and my hubby ordered the kalua pork with cabbage bowl. I love the murals and decoration, really brings us back to the islands. A good spot if you're looking for Hawaiian style food with very generous portion sizes. There is street parking and parking lot available for this location. It is all indoor seating and the restaurant feels very bright and open with lots of windows and fun decor. They have a fairly large selection on their menu and everything is very fairly priced. They were out of a couple of items the day that we were there but they were kind enough to offer substitutions for the things that they didn't have. Every dish that came out was massive in portion size and would definitely have been enough for two people to share. The noodles in the fried saimin were a little bit overcooked, but the Hawaiian bbq chicken made up for it. It was perfectly tender and had great flavor. The somen salad also came in a heaping portion and was very refreshing on a hot day. The wonton min had decent flavor for the broth. The loco moco patty was more well done than I prefer, but the egg was cooked perfectly as ordered and the gravy flavor was fantastic. read more

It's been ages since I've been here. I'm pretty sure it was in a different location. I don't remember parking being like it was. I remember they had the best Lahaina fried chicken. But my eyes were bigger than my stomach and decided to share the Back Home Sampler - spam musubi, fried chicken, lumpia, wontons, skewers... It was okay. The chicken is still my favorite. We also ordered tofu salad. Dressing was mediocre. My friend got the loco moco and that was delicious. Hamburger had a crispy outside. Gravy was flavorful. HUGE menu with plenty of choices. It was a Friday night with live Hawaiian musicians. It was packed! Our server, Gregory? Can't remember now, was very attentive. He was very courteous and friendly even though it was so busy. The restaurant itself has an amazing vibe. It really feels like you're back home in Lahaina. read more

Food Highlights: Back home in Lahaina brings some back for your buck by providing Hawaiian staples with large portions for you to share. While I appreciate the value, the choices I selected were okay. My Loco Moco was ordered with an over easy egg that came out over hard. The gravy was a little more on the viscous side and the Mac was heavy on the Mayo. Nothing stellar to report on the flavor profiles of the Fried Saimin and Kalua Pork as they were all very one dimensional. Service: The restaurant was at about 75% capacity when we got there and despite our party being on the larger side right in the middle of the room, they kind of forgot about us for long periods of time. I spent a good amount of my lunch service thirsty trying to get my beverage refilled. Ambiance: There is a rustic Hawaiian theme with the glazed wooden tables and art on the walls. The vibe is on point and the plentiful seating in doors means it gets pretty loud. There is fairly limited parking on site. It's a good place to try once, perhaps I just caught them on a bad day. read more
Had tried this restaurant many years ago, so wanted to see how their food was. Service was excellent, they also serve draft beer and wine. We started with a POG mimosa, which was very good. We shared a Filipino lumpia appetizer, which was only okay. My wife ordered the Lahaina fried chicken plate and I wanted to try their lau lau platter. My daughter suggested we try this place. My wife was pointing on the mural on the wall, which was from a street we visited when we were in LaHaina a few years ago. She knew exactly where it was. Now that's interesting ambiance. You also have the street signs on the various support posts of the roads in LaHaina. And more murals. We dropped in on our first night in the area. For a Tuesday night, we got seated promptly, and the place was pretty quiet. Our server came out and took our drink orders, and then came and got our dinner orders. I ordered their Seared Ahi Tuna plate, which had cabbage, the sashimi grade Ahi tuna, a very nice sesame wasabi sauce for dipping the Ahi in, and white rice. My wife's dish was Hawaiian Chicken and Teriyaki Steak with extra teriyaki sauce. She also ordered their Lomi Lomi Salmon salad. She really enjoyed her dinner. She ordered a glass of tea, and I went for a 16 ounce glass of their Longboard Beer. All in all the food was plentiful and tasty. Service was solid. Parking is available just past the business, but make sure you park in the general parking, not the chiropractor's lot. There are signs - don't do it. Back Home in Lahaina's inside decor and service is far superior to the taste of their food unfortunately. What is a little surprising is that the restaurant was absolutely packed on a Saturday during the lunch rush. Sadly, I'd rather visit a chain like Ono's than this place. The food was pretty mediocre. We ordered the Lahaina Platter #2, which includes the Lahaina Fried Chicken, Chicken Breast Teriyaki, and the Hawaiian BBQ Beef. The Fried Chicken was room temperature at best, but the flavor was decent. The Chicken Breast was just grilled chicken with sauce drizzled on top. The Hawaiian BBQ Beef was good. The teriyaki sauce served here tastes a little strange compared to other restaurants. The ramen cabbage salad was interesting as well. I'd never had noodles mixed into my salad before. The service was outstanding. Shout out to those that work here. They were very attentive and on top of it. Overall, you'll notice that the clientele are generally older in age and probably regulars. read more
