    Tonkotsu Regular Ramen

Good amazing. I used to go to the location in Costa Mesa but they closed down. Went to this location, tastes the exact same. Cute spot, a little bit smaller space than the Costa Mesa location. The waiters and the service were really good. Super nice.

My husband and I found our new ramen spot! The food was great and the portions were just right -- filling without feeling too heavy. My husband ordered the Spicy Miso with extra bamboo shoots and an egg, plus they had $5 draft Sapporo, which was a nice bonus. I had the Black Devil (a mix of black ramen and spicy ramen) at heat level 1, and it was honestly perfect -- flavorful with just enough kick without being overpowering. They were pretty busy for a Tuesday night, but we still got seated within about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad at all. My only complaint would be the service -- the staff weren't very attentive during the meal and seemed to check in more once it was time to pay the bill. Overall though, the food definitely makes this a spot we'll be coming back to!

Our go to ramen shop in Torrance, with fast service an efficient setup, I was so excited to eat my Tonkatsu Ramen I forgot to take a photo. I've said it before the kaarage is the best in the South Bay! I could eat that alone but of course that would be wrong! I order the ramen Normal Broth with noodles cooked Hard. Needless to say there wasn't anything left in my bowl, love the savory broth.

Was in the area at an event and we needed dinner after, couldn't really decide on anything so we ended up coming here for a bowl of ramen. There was a line, so we got in the wait list ahead of time, outright waited around 20 minutes before we were seated. The place was busy on a Saturday night, expected with most places though, but service was fast. We ordered a couple bowls of ramen and katsu curry. The God fire ramen has a tonkotsu broth with thin noodles and pork chashu. You have to pay separate for an egg, unfortunately, but got an egg as well. The broth was decent, I made it a level 3/4 spice, but it still wasn't very spicy. Could have got the level four easily. The regular tonkotsu ramen was similar, a little less spice added to that one per her choice, but really, the ramen didn't stand out necessarily. As for the pork chashu, the chicken was cooked well, nice crispiness on the outside, and the curry sauce was ok. But, again, it didn't stand out in any particular way. Overall, a known ramen spot that was voted best ramen in LA about a decade ago (per documentation on their walls inside), but in a city that has so many ramen options, it really didn't leave a mark on us. It is decent, and if you happen to be in the area and really want ramen, head over, but, if not, you can look elsewhere.

I was very disappointed with our experience here. We would see lines outside the door all the time so we thought their food was going to be good but maybe we hyped it up too much in our heads. Inside the restaurant is relatively small so we understood why there would be lines out the door. We ordered their fried dumplings, cubed chashu rice bowl, half and half spicy and garlic ramen with extra toppings and a regular tonkatsu ramen. The temperature of Both ramens came out less than lukewarm. No steam whatsoever. Do not order the half and half. I do not know what I was tasting. It was such a weird taste and it was not a good taste at all. All the foods were not warm so we did not enjoy it at all. Maybe we got them on an off day.

I really like the ramen here. Never had a bad bowl or any item I didn't like. My favorite is the Tonkatsu regular ramen with everything and extra green onion. I order the spicy karaage and some gyoza, every time!! I come on cold rainy days especially. My wife gets the spicy miso. We slurp it down. You can order extra noodles if you'd like if you still have broth but I never have. Inside is small and gets busy early. Service is always great, friendly.

Went here for my lunch break! Had to come and give them a review cus man, that ramen HIT. I love food and of course ramen, very picky, and this just, WOW! This mf hit yo I had the Black Devil Ramen. Ooooohh man lol Best of both worlds! You can choose your spice level, so don't be alarmed!! I liked how the server described it and the generosity of saying they can just put it on the side for you. I went with level one, which is why I'm so happy about this serving. It literally did its job, I had the perfect kick and the right amount of spice. I still asked for spicy miso paste on the side (just cause I really love spice but really shouldn't). I honestly sprinkled some maybe once or twice, the soup was great as is. It came right away too, by the way! I think the temperature of the soup also had a lot to do with it. I was doing work stuff, but I couldn't keep my hands off the spoon. Place is somewhat small, but did its thing. Joining the waiting list and being upfront with them as soon as you arrive and check in does the job. I sat on the bar/wall since i was on a time quench. They also have an easy way to order to go, they have the slips you pick and choose what you want like sushi places do, everything was pretty convenient. Only con i thought of (after the fact) was that they didn't have much selection on toppings. But I clearly overlooked that and the Ramen just did it's thing! Definitely ask for the veggies! I will be going back, enjoy!

Rating: 4 1/2 Stars Background On Chef: The New Ramen Pioneer, Kousuke Yoshimura, keeps searching for the original tastes. He created 7 different tastes of noodle shops in Japan and overseas. He keeps running with his motto: "To bring happiness to all the people". He constantly pursues the most desirable taste and makes every effort to spread "Hakata Ramen" culture to the world. Kousuke Yoshimura was born in June 1976 in Fukuoka city. His father was a sushi-chef and his mother ran a Japanese-style bar. Naturally he got interested in cooking in childhood. Aside from his regular work, he had built up his experience in a gyoza restaurant for two years. He came back to his mother's bar and he devoted himself to cooking. Though those experiences, he completed his original tonkotsu ramen by himself and opened "Hakata Ikkousha" in Daimyo, Fukuoka. The shop was named "Ikkousha" with the hope that whoever comes here can find "one" or more "happiness" at the precious "place". He also opened "Hakata Gensuke", which was the very first Tsukemen, dipping ramen, shop in April 2008- Hakata. The concept of the shop is totally different from that of "Ikkousha". Hakata Ikkousha Ramen Motto: "To bring happiness to all the people". Promotions: Check out their yelp page or their website for monthly specials. This month is Tsukemen. Law of the land 1) They do not accept reservations. 2) First come, first serve policy. However, parties may be sat out of order to best accommodate all party sizes. 3) Please join the waitlist on the ipad in-person or join the waitlist online through the yelp App or yelp website. 4) All parties have to be present in order to be seated/checked in 5) If there is no response within 5 min. of being notified, your name will be removed from the waitlist. 6) We reserve the right to refuse service. Location/Parking: Located in a plaza with a decent amount of parking spots. Wait Time: Really depends on the time you go. They encourage everyone to use the Yelp Waitlist Kiosk. We waited about 10-15 minutes. Ambiance/Decor: Neat ambiance with pretty cool decor through the small shop. Service: Service was great. The staffers were friendly and attentive. Food came out at a decent time. Food Of Choice: 1) Large Karaage: Pricing was a bit pricey ($14 - $15), but you get about 4-5 big pieces. It would be great if they could put the pricing on the order form. I did like the crunch and how moist the chicken was. It was very nice that they provided scissors to cut them to smaller pieces. 2) Fried Squid Leg: Mmmmm. Very good. 3) Mentai Tonkotsu: Loved it! The tonkotsu soup base was so delightful to drink. Had plenty of garlic, but if you want more... ask for more! They don't provide an actual garlic and a presser, but they do give you minced garlic in a container to put in to your bowl. Has a little spicy kick. Noods were to my liking and the chasu was tender. Hakata Ikkousha Ramen For Thought: Would love to patronize the shop again.

When they have the 50% off special deal, it's a no brainer destination dining trek Torrance if you're in the South Bay Beach Cities. The broth is very tasty. I am spice adverse so ordered the spicy sauce on the side and it came "normal" not a hint of heat, the way I like it. Because it's ramen inherently it's real fast to prepare and serve. The service is fast and friendly here

TL;DR - they have limited time tsukemen for August and it is OUTSTANDING! Hakata Ikkousha Ramen is now my go-to place for tsukemen. They have tsukemen for the month of August!!! Hurry before it is gone! They're currently doing monthly themed dishes and this is the one for August. I was really surprised to see this option so I got it and was really happy with my decision! My normal go-to place for tsukemen is in Sawtelle, Los Angeles but I no longer need to go there, at least for August. Their tsukemen was outstanding. I don't know what they did to make their dipping sauce but it wasn't too salty or fatty like it normally is. The flavor was nice but not overpowering. The most unique element of the dipping broth was the unexpected smokiness that you could taste. I absolutely loved it. Enough to ask to waitress if it was going to stay on their menu after August. Apparently the staff likes it too and they're considering it. Please please PLEASE keep it on the menu! I would come back just for this. I even finished ALL of the dipping sauce despite having no more noodles (normally it's not recommended to drink it because it is too salty and fatty lol) The service was fast and professional as usual. They were very helpful with explaining everything. There weren't many people when we went so there were no issues with seating and it was quiet enough to hold a conversation.

Mentaiko ...didnt see or tast too much mentaiko.
    Jeff I.

I ordered my kids moso tonkotsu. No kid sizes. Noodles are different than my Mentaiko Tonkotsu. Not sure why they dont say that as I assumed all kyushu ramen is horsemen. Truthfully, the mentaiko tonkotsu has no diff. Just a tad bit spicy and I dont see any mentaiko or even taste it. If the theme is mentaiko, I would request to put more as I saw no difference from getting a tonkotsu and just putting some chili oil in it. It doesnt suit the dish if it doesnt tast like what it says...or at least see the roe. I drank most of the soup but found nothing..no roe floating or at the bottom. Maybe they forgot? (Thats worse tho) I've been here many times n like the tonkotsu here, but maybe ill just stick to the normal one. The atmosphere is ok. Always a line as there's not much space. I recommend getting on yelp wait list before you get there. Ill be back whe. I want tonkotsu again. Thx

We just came back from Japan and were missing ramen. It is very comparable to the ramen we had, the broth was very creamy and fatty. The workers were very nice and the price was very fair. It's located in a plaza with other restaurants. The store is small, we didn't have to wait for seating on a weekday night. I live in OC, it's nice that they also have a location in Costa Mesa. ig: @cravingswithcat

This quaint little spot sits in a small strip mall on 182nd Street & Crenshaw right next to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Parking is decent, and the cozy interior gives it that authentic neighborhood ramen shop vibe, although I usually order mine to-go. My wife and I always order the Tonkotsu Ramen. The pork broth is absolutely incredible -- rich, creamy and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of saltiness poured over perfectly cooked noodles. The bowl comes topped with: * Bamboo shoots * Diced green onion * Pork belly * Marinated egg halves * Braised pork * Mushrooms * Dried seaweed If you order takeout, they package the broth separately from the noodles and toppings so the noodles don't get soggy before you get home. The price is reasonable and honestly worth every penny, and the staff is always willing to assist with questions. Everything from the flavor to the experience just feels a step above. The (always-vegan) broth is rich and well-balanced, and you can really tell the focus is on quality. One thing I really appreciate is how accommodating they are with customizations. I usually ask for my ramen without nori (seaweed) and skip the egg, and they get it right every time. As you approach the restaurant you'll find tables outside, inside, and the bar area on the left-hand side. I've tried different items on the menu over the years. From their Spicy Garnet, Quartz, gyoza, sushi, different buns, etc. But the Amber Ramen is spectacular! Rich broth with a deep umami from the shoyu and bonito flake mix. The chashu cuts are seared beautifully. On the topic of pork, the pork belly buns make for a great bite too. I love the sauces they included. My only slight notes are that the ramen is occasionally greasy and the chashu featured is on the thinner side. I'd expect more given the price tag for single bowl. Lastly, their plum wine is definite pleasant surprise. Fragrant, light, and compliments most of their ramen options quite well. I'll have to order a bottle the next time I'm in with friends.

Very original. Very flavorful ramen broth. I would say the prices are not the cheapest but the food is delicious.

Skip the Shacho Ramen and go for the pork rice bowl! The Breakdown Service & Speed: 5/5. I ordered within 5 minutes and the food arrived in 10. The manager lady is amazing, charismatic, and highly memorable. They're full service, they packed my leftovers. The Highlight (Pork Rice Bowl): Generous portion of rice and incredibly tender pork. Mixing in the egg and mayo made the dish, became the highlight of my meal. The Perks: Their menu is simple and straightforward, and adding extra toppings to your ramen is actually relatively inexpensive. The Disappointment (Shacho Ramen): This was my first meal here without fried chicken, and the Shacho Ramen unfortunately fell flat. It completely lacked the complexity and depth I was looking for. The Broth: Had the rich, heavy sesame creaminess I demanded, but it was incredibly one-note outside of that. The Spice: Level 2 had no heat at all. I asked for a side of extra spice, which helped a bit, but didn't save the dish. The Noodles: Very bland.Ended up packing most of it away Verdict: Come for the great service, cheap add-ons, and excellent rice bowls, but pass on the Shacho Ramen.
