We haven't been in awhile since our busy lives with kids keeps us from venturing out to Long Beach much but my husband and I went out for a date night here and was greeted so sweetly by the owner. She said long time no see! She was right and although it had been awhile it was nice to be remembered. Food is always on point here and we absolutely love their sushi still.
Never heard of this place before but was passing by it as I was shopping around the Belmont Shore area so I decided to have lunch there. Absolutely delicious food, very calm chill atmosphere, inside was clean and good friendly service. I'll be back for sure. 5/5.
It was supposed to be one of those really hot out of the ordinary March days when we came here, but on this particular evening as soon as I drove over the bridges, I saw this huge cloud over the Long Beach area. I did not come prepared for a chilly night. We were supposed to just have coffee and go for a walk, but we needed a warm place, so we stumbled upon this place. It's actually pretty good. We sat at the counter/bar. The servers were nice. What we got: Salmon/tuna poke bowl: quite yummy. A mixture of both salmon and tuna in a great poke sauce over a bed of rice and salad. Salmon skin salad: if you like salmon skin, this is yummy. A perfect crunch seasoned really well to complement the bed of greens. Furikake fries: thinly cut potato's with furikake seasoning paired with a sweet mustard dipping sauce. I would have enjoyed more Furikake on the fries, but that's just me. This place has real wasabi if you ask for it instead of the watered down stuff you usually get. It's actually pretty good! Overall great food and great service. I'd come back for sure!
SOOO AMAZING i'm already obsessed with this restaurant. i was VERY pleased with my dining experience at osaka story :3 i need to come back asap -- it was that freaking good. i think i stumbled upon this place through a recommendation from yelp so shoutout to yelp i love u yelp. absolutely exceeded my expectations! the menu is HUGE, like several pages long, so you're bound to find something you'll like ~ not to mention, the service was excellent! very attentive and friendly servers! the interior is also soo cute at night + there's an outdoor dining area. we ordered the mango tango, black mamba, and orange bikini roll. they were all so good, but i think the black mamba was my fav. it was a tinge lighter than the other rolls with a dash of citrus that i really enjoyed! (i think from the ponzu, i LOVE PONZU)! every bite was BURSTING WITH FLAVOR :') incredible combinations. chef's kiss. parking is on the street, so it CAN be tricky to find a spot... but the area is lovely to walk through, especially at night! we were told the meters aren't active after 7pm and parked in a 25 minute loading zone spot with no problems at all.
Osaka story is always a lovely experience. All the staff is super nice and welcoming. A neighborhood gem. I appreciated the owner- she talked out of getting more than we needed as we wanted everything! So sweet and thoughtful. For non-spicy options..we got the crab rolls and the salmon lover roll with a cucumber salad to start. Everything is consistent and fresh. This was a Saturday night so they had a nice crowd and a steady flow of customers.
Returned for lunch and Kiara did an exceptional job during my visit. I had the Tropical Punch and Monster Rolls. Everything was delectably stacked, so I could barely finish a single roll.
Outstanding little restaurant on 2nd street. Family owned, friendly service and outstanding food. The sushi was fresh and very tasty. I don't know how I missed it all these years. They are also pet friendly (on the outdoor patio) and have a Happy Hour. Both the interior and the patio are very nice. If you love Japanese food, you have to try this place.
Osaka story has become my new favorite place in Long Beach to get sushi rolls! Sushi rolls nowadays tend to be $18-20 for a specialty roll anywhere (inflation!) but the rolls here are huge - excellent portion size! We tried the Mango Tango roll, Golden California roll, and Ninja roll - all delicious, but our favorite was definitely the Mango Tango roll! Light, refreshing, and the sweetness of the mango went really well with the salmon. Would definitely order it again! The menu is very extensive with a ton of specialty roll options as well as other things like hot rice plates, ramen, and even yubu. There's something here for everyone! We came on a Sunday at 12 and got seated very quickly, and we were lucky as a line started forming around 12:15 for indoor seating. Our food also came out very quickly after we placed our order. The inside of the restaurant is pretty dimly lit - feels like a nice intimate setting. Overall would recommend if you're looking for delicious sushi rolls in Long Beach!
Met some friends and we were hungry. So we went to Belmont Shore (a part of Long Beach) and walked right into Osaka Story. Greeted by a very friendly hostess and there was not wait. So we were seated right away. It's a cozy restaurant with strong wooden tables and chairs. The menu has a wide array of traditional Japanese food and drink items as well as some fun California fusion foods. Our waitress took our food orders and you can watch the chefs make the meals. Literally see them curate fresh fish and shellfish into sushi, sashimi and/or hand rolls. Fun music is heard on the speakers of the restaurant. The restrooms are very clean too! I will definitely return to this amazing restaurant!
A massive menu, friendly service and delicious sushi is what Osaka Story is all about. They're located in a prime spot on 2nd street and the atmosphere is casual. Portions are pretty substantial and our group shared a variety of items. Edamame, gyoza and cucumber salad were all tasty starters. My bf and I split the Chicken Yaki-Udon and the Holiday Roll but both were so large that we could have just split one. The quality was there in all of the dishes.
Service and ambiance is always amazing here. Plenty of room to sit and dog friendly. Good for quick sushi fix great appetizers.
The sushi is very fresh and high quality. The salmon and yellowtail just cut and super flavorful. The outside is very spacious and can watch the people strolling by. The service is exceptional and owners are present and make sure everything is as you wanted it.
Really delicious food but just don't trust what the pictures look like on the menu vs what you get. Avocado fries on menu, looks like Avocado pieces. Got the calamari and lt looks like normal fresh rings but here they looked like onion rings from Burger King. No I did not go to the home of the Whopper but the calamari was just ok and chewy. Beer was cold so that was good. Pot stickers did not look like the item on the menu. One thing I would mention to stay away from would be the baked salmon. I have never had baked salmon that was like it was steamed and sweet eel sauce put on it.Don't get me wrong the food was good and some items great but overall what it cost vs what you get. I think I will pass on this place.

We had a wonderful experience at Osaka Story a few weeks ago. The owner Reyna is probably the most memorable part of our visit. She took the time to give valuable information on the history of this restaurant. Our server also provided EXCELLENT service! How nice to visit a business owner who genuinely loves what she does! The food and the vibrant energy inside are totally worth trying when in this area! read more
Sadly, we didn't get to eat here. If you are gluten free, I would skip this place. They had nothing to offer my niece or sister so we had only had appetizers and left. Staff was friendly and you can make reservations which is nice. We did get the fries which my nephew enjoyed and our crispy garlic rice was good. Hopefully I'll get to try another time. read more

5-star review for Osaka Story 5 STARS! Osaka Story is such a hidden gem! The sushi is fresh, flavorful, and they have such a fun variety of options. The salmon yubu and spicy tuna yubu are definitely worth trying, and I love that they have creative choices alongside classic Japanese favorites. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is friendly, and everything feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a full meal, Osaka Story is definitely a spot I'd recommend to anyone who loves sushi! Fresh fish + creative rolls + great service = a perfect combination! Definitely coming back! read more

As of 2025, this has been one of my favorite sushi spots in Long Beach, I haven't explored too much this year being that this is the closest to me but I really like the quality of their rolls and the freshness. I've been here two times in the last 6 months and it hasn't disappointed. In fact, their service was outstanding too, the waiter would always check on us. Inside its well decorated and dimmed, outside there's a handful of tables if you want a cool breeze and want to people watch. Diving into their menu, there's a plethora of sushi options and it's not limited at sushi, there's a lot of entrees! The crunch roll is hands down of my favorite crunch rolls I've had in Socal. It's soo good! The chicken karaage is decent, just little chicken nuggets, not your average karaage. read more
This wasn't our original destination for a girls lunch, but it ended up being a great choice. We dined outside and ordered a variety of appetizers, rolls, and Sashimi. The group loved the cucumber salad and ordered a second. The Crispy Spicy Tuna was delicious along with the Shishito Peppers and edamame. We shared the Chef's Special Sashimi platter which comes with miso soup and a side salad. I also tried the Salmon and Tuna hand rolls. The server, Gustavo, was great and dropped off a plate of complimentary tempura fried salmon. Awesome service and delicious food! read more

Hubby & I came here for lunch yesterday for the first time. We walked in & got seated right away bc the place was dead with only 2 tables filled on a Saturday afternoon. Atmosphere was small but intimate & nicely decorated. Menu was extensive with pages of many different options including kids menu. We ordered the sushi & sashimi plate which came with chef's choice of 8pc sushi & 12pcs of sashimi. It also included small bowl of salad & miso soup for $65 which is a great deal. I wish I can give 4 stars for the review but I'm rating it 3.5 stars bc the cut of the fish was too thick for my liking. I enjoy smaller pieces that I can bite into all at one time but bc the pieces were thick, It was difficult to fit the entire piece in my mouth. I admit the fish was fresh but it didn't melt in my mouth. Salad & miso soup was on point & service was excellent. I don't mind giving this place a 2nd try & aim for other items on menu. read more
Late review from 5/27/25. Stopped by for lunch with family. Plus we found parking! Close by too! Cute little place. Ordered many items which we shared. Tried to take pics before someone started serving themselves. Thought this was odd, but the waiter kept telling us things would take a long time as there was only one sushi chef... ok we're willing to wait(?) Several of us order nigiri individuals. We were all very pleased. Shared 1) special sashimi sushi platter/box. A variety of really tasty & fresh sashimi. 2) Baked scallop special. Really yummy loaded with scallops atop. 3)Geisha roll-another winner 4) a roll with a crispy rice layer. My son & his gf order all the time & make this at home. Also a winner. We really enjoyed this place & the sushi/sashimi. The service was kind of odd, but the food was great! Will stop by with my gfs to check out more items. Plus we need sake & soju. read more

We have been here over 10 times and keep coming back! The staff is super friendly and we always have great service. The fish quality is excellent and outdoor seating/sushi bar is fantastic. I alternate getting a bento box or one of their specialty sushi/sashimi boxes. Highly recommend! It's by far our favorite sushi spot in Long Beach after trying 5+ in the area. read more

I've past by this location for such a longtime. Finally, I decided to give it a try and I wish I would have gone here sooner. Every aspect of each dish was amazing! Dragon roll I've had before at many sushi locations but, this was done do well. A tight roll that Santa's together when picked up, each piece was equal in size (the entire plate was huge), the dragon roll was savory yet sweet. Sexy mango had to be my favorite item. I felt guilty eating it alone that I saved half to rush home to my husband. He too throughly enjoyed each roll. The mango roll will be one that I will get at any future visit. Jalapeño bomb was very large. Gigantic! Easily a meal on its own. The bread stays on the large jalapeño (which is rare at any restaurant I've had it at before), the flavors were amazing, each piece was identical. Heat was mild, savory, and sweet. Tea was very good. A typical true green tea. Refills are offer which is very nice. I can't wait to go with my husband this Sunday! Staff was extremely pleasant and prompt to anything you needed said or unsaid. Restaurant was very clean. Owner even came over and introduced herself. She was very sweet and inviting. Even brought me over strawberry ice cream. Really loved this restaurant. Can't wait to bring my best friend as well. read more
Came here for a happy hour lunch. I thought it was a good deal for all of the food we got. I got some gyoza, a rainbow roll, and a spicy tuna roll. It's not the best sushi, but definitely not bad, and it was very affordable. read more

10/10 made my girlfriend's birthday dinner so special!! We had amazing and attentive service, portions were huge and very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity, and we loved the vibe. We'll definitely be back!! read more
The food presentation and service here are always on point. Parking is, of course, quite difficult along 2nd but as long as you don't mind a little bit of a stroll there will always be some options (even non-metered spots along the park about a block away). As for the food, everything I have had here has been delicious and of good quality. My favorites are the no-rice rolls; specifically the Protein and Orange Bikini. They have an expansive menu that would be good for groups and seem to have regulars that keep coming back for more--understandably! read more
Food and service were great. We came here years ago when they first opened in the neighborhood. We ate here for xmas eve dinner and not much to choose from but it was delicious. Now! Wow! The menu is very extensive like basically like Cheesecake Factory menu long. We went Mother's Day and it wasn't busy for lunch. That was good for us! I love that they have kids menu. If you have someone in your party who doesn't like sushi then there are tons of non sushi options. I order 2 rolls. I didn't need wasabi or soy sauce for any of them because they add so much flavor to them. I loved my aloha roll. Also loved the black mamba roll but I wasn't expecting it taste sweet. I have ordered rolls w mango in the past and they never taste sweet. However, having it sweet wasn't a bad thing I just wasn't expecting it. Will definitely comeback again. There are so many sushi places on 2nd street but this place is the best hands down. This will be my go to place for sushi since it's in my neighborhood. read more

Great sushi!:) The rice was made amazing!:) They put cream cheese inside my rolls either way it was great!:) They went above and beyond with customer service!:) They gave free ice cream when they made a very minor order mistake. Either way cream cheese inside the rolls or on the side I loved it either way:) I definitely would recommend coming here for your sushi:) They do birthday dinners too:) The restaurant has great decor inside and very modern:) There's a T.V. inside they shows a walk through of Japan. I am from Asia and will go back to Japan someday:) I was there as a baby inside the airport in Tokyo but would love to visit the city someday:) read more

Wow this is such a cute spot that I wish I knew about sooner! Parking is on the street but I found some with no issue. First off the vibe inside is great & decorate so cute. The service was all so friendly & the servers were so sweet & gave great recommendations. I got the lemon pepper yuba which was delicious & then the dinner deal with blue fin tuna sashimi & the spicy tuna roll. The dinner deal also comes with rice, salad, & miso soup. Such a great deal. Will definitely be back!! read more

Great food of course but what stands out for me is the service. In this day and age where a lot of the (corporate chain) restaurants seem to favor very few servers on the floor this restaurant does a great job with team coverage. There is always someone around to order from or request (more wasabi) things from. And the food is delicious. Nice cozy mix of inside and outside seating as this is on the wonderful Second Ave. Belmont Shore. Really nothing I would change read more
We came by here for the first time on a Sunday night. My husband picked it, I think for the great reviews. We ordered the crispy Philly roll, the Black Mamba and the Albacore Surprise roll. The Black Mamba was my favorite! So incredibly tasty and fresh. I will definitely order this one again. The crispy Philly was so interesting. The first bite we both took, we weren't quite sure about it. It's like our senses were confused lol But the more we ate it, the better it got! I recommend you trust this process lol The Albacore Surprise was tasty and fresh also, but it wasn't a stand out like that Mamba was. The service wasn't friendly or attentive but that's okay, it was date night and the playoffs were on so that didn't impact our night too much. We'll be back! read more
Me and my boyfriend decided to try Osaka Story for our date night and let me know it did not disappoint. Let me start by the service, from our server and the hostess, everyone was super nice and attentive. We ordered 4 rolls and one was better than the other. I absolutely LOVED this place ! Definitely recommend the Hot Night roll and the Tsunami roll ! They were to die for! read more
