I ran out of matcha powder and was craving a matcha latte so I decided to treat myself. This was not the kind of matcha I was expecting for a cafe to make. I think if you want to serve a popular drink like matcha then you should learn how to prepare it properly and use quality ingredients. I called and asked what ingredients they use and they said it was some cultivator or something idk but it seems like they use some cheap matcha powder bc the taste is not there. I ordered on DoorDash and was not able to get a refund so beware if you buy a matcha from them. When I called to let them know about the experience they just said "we're sorry about that" like not even trying to make it better lol they really dgaf. You can see in the pic that the color is a dark shade of green, if you like that kind of matcha then I guess try it for yourself to determine if you like that. This place was incredible. I ordered the classic breakfast burrito with pork sausage, and it was easily one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in a long time. The fresh tortilla was absolutely delicious, and the burrito was packed with sausage, eggs, potatoes, and cheese. Everything was perfectly balanced, so every bite had just the right amount of each ingredient. At $15, it was a great value considering the size and quality. I also tried the churro French toast, and it completely exceeded my expectations. It was light and fluffy on the inside, perfectly crisp on the outside, and not overly sweet. Came to eat here with a friend and we came in their last hour before they closed. The restaurant was very cute and had plenty of seating. I got a mazapán iced coffee and that was pretty good. Red chorizo burrito -- my partner really enjoyed this and would go back for it Red chorizo taco -- pure grease dripping out of the taco. Tried this spot while doing laundry next door with my partner and we decided to split two of the El Ranchero burritos -- the red pork chorizo and the green chicken chorizo. The ingredients sounded amazing: eggs, potatoes, Mexican cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Flavor-wise, both burritos actually tasted really good and the salsas were delicious too. Unfortunately, the texture kind of ruined it for us. Both burritos had the exact same very mushy texture, and after a few bites we were both over it. There were supposed to be potatoes inside, but it barely seemed like there were any. Crispy potatoes would've made a huge difference and added some texture. At $21 each, we just didn't feel like the burritos were worth the price. The real highlight of our visit was the drinks -- we got the horchata and pepino agua fresca, and both were SO good. Masa y Taza is popping off in the LBC, and they're doing breakfast burritos right. We came in on a Sunday morning and waited about 25 minutes to place our order. Once we did, the food came out relatively quick. Next time I would call in my order for pickup. I went with the green chile chicken breakfast burrito. I really loved the combination of ingredients, the amount of cheese, and the fresh and chewy tortilla. You get your choice of two salsas with your order, and you don't want to miss the salsa verde. We love a salsa selection. As a non-coffee drinker I would have loved to see some tea options. How tasty would a horchata chai be?! This is such a wonderful new spot to grace the food scene of Long Beach. Masa Y Taza is a wonderful breakfast spot with something for everybody, and  I can't wait to tell you about it! Masa Y Taza is a fast casual breakfast cafe, where you order at the counter and food is brought out to your number. They have a wide variety of goods, from coffees, agua frescas, pastries, and some of the best breakfast burritos in the area. Let's start with your drinks. I got the horchata latte, which was perfect. The horchata was creamy, spicy, and sweet enough to balance the espresso. I do think this one is better than the one at Tierra Mia because it is less gritty. The breakfast burrito was so good! I got the Ranchero burrito with green chorizo. The chorizo is sooooo flavorful. It's chicken, but it is not dry at all. The Ranchero burrito is an upgraded option with the inclusion of sour cream and guacamole, but I actually don't think it's necessary at all. I would get their classic burrito so that you can see the proteins really shine. The eggs inside are fluffy and the beans are very flavorful. Each burrito also comes with 2 free sides of sauce, and there are like 8 to choose from. From what I've tasted, you can't go wrong. I personally loved the chipotle crema and the pickled onions, but that salsa macha is also bombbbbbb.  You CANNOT SKIP the FRENCH TOAST! I mean, why does this spot have some of the best french toast I've ever had? The bread is soaked in a delicious custard, and toasted until it's crispy on the outside, gooey in the middle, and somehow still so fluffy. Paired with the housemade caramel/cajeta, it's a breakfast bite made in heaven. I feel so lucky to have found this gem to add into my location for breakfast options in Long Beach. A Long Beach gem. It's a great spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch with amazing options for caffeine and food. The mazapán banana latte is creamy and sweet and a great way to top off any day. And the real stars of the show are the breakfast burritos and with their salsa verde. The el clásico breakfast burrito is quite honestly one of the best if not the best breakfast burritos we've ever had. There is good texture balance with egg and crispy potatoes, the homemade tortillas you cannot beat and I would happily drown in their salsa verde. It's perfection. My partner put this spot up for breakfast this morning. It has been wildly popular, but we showed up early to beat the rush. Parking can be a challenge on Fourth Street, but sometimes (especially in the morning) you can get lucky. Just don't park behind the restaurant in the lot next to the laundry. Some signs make that pretty clear. When you walk in, it's a very nice place with plenty of table seating and a small menu to make great choices. We decided to split a El Classico breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs, potatoes, cheese all in a homemade flour burrito tortilla. She had a cup of Cafe de Olla, and it was a perfect natural. No need for cream or sugar, bringing her thoughts of home with her mother. We also shared the churro french toast that was stuffed with custard and came with gooey chocolate dip. It took be back to Spain by how good they were. We enjoyed the tortillas de Mantequilla, and again the homemade flour tortillas were amazing, sending me back to times as a kid. These were better than my grandmother's. The service was great overall, these guys do well behind the counter, and in the kitchen. So glad I finally got to try this little spot! I've seen the line out the door so I was so excited my friend and I could get in here. I got the chorizo breakfast burrito with red sauce and chipotle sauce, and my friend got the big ranchero breakfast burrito. These are good size burritos with delicious flour tortillas similar to Sonoratown's flour tortillas. My chorizo burrito was very solid. Would definitely recommend. My friend loved her ranchero burrito, and took home like half of it. The real star was the churro French toast. I don't even like sweet breakfasts anymore but I could have that all day every day. The cinnamon and the cajeta were perfect! This is a fun casual spot, with terrible street parking lol, but it was worth it! You order at the counter, and then they bring your food to you. Came here with my friend a few months ago after I learned she'd never been and it's in her neighborhood. This place is small with a few tables to dine in, but everything I tried has was great. We walked but they also have a few parking spots on the right side of the building. We got the El Chorizo Verde de Pollo (Green Chicken) and El Clásico breakfast burritos. The El Clásico was our favorite. I also got the Horchata Latte which was great. All the staff were super kind, including the owner who checked on us often and shared a bit about the business. The cafe de olla is super delicious, I absolutely enjoyed trying this for the first time. It wasn't too sweet or too bitter, it was just right. I did not care for the green salsa chorizo. It looked odd and had no flavor. The tacos were also pricey at $6 for one taco. However I would like to go back for cafe de olla and try the breakfast burrito. This has become my go to coffee spot, and for good reason. I come here every week because the coffee is always consistent, the customer service is genuinely 10/10, and everyone is so friendly. I'm vegan, and they always customize their breakfast burrito for me without any issues. It's seriously one of the best vegan breakfast burritos I've had. The tortillas taste fresh, the ingredients are high quality, and you can tell everything is made with care. And don't even get me started on the salsa, the green and red salsas are both incredible and take everything to the next level. I loveee the vibrant color as well. It tasted really refreshing. I do suggest going really early to skip the peak hours. My little family and I arrived around 8:30am on a Sunday. As we sat down, the line got so long and out the door. If you have littles, I suggest not bringing your strollers. Good thing we didn't because it got super packed. Since they just opened, I'm assuming everyone's checking out what all the hype is about. My husband and I enjoyed our orders--El Ranchero burrito and La Espina taco. I loveee the way they cooked the eggs, fluffy and soft. I hate overcooked, rubbery scrambled eggs. I always order nopales and this had amazing flavor profile. Nothing was overpowering. This place is amazing. It's one of two places I've found in Long Beach that serve food that's comparable to did in Mexico City. I've tried a burrito with chorizo and one with nopales and they were both outstanding. The handmade flour tortillas were perfect. The salsas taste like they're made from scratch. The Mexican mocha and the horchata latte taste great. The customer service is great. Love the vibe here. Decent spot that's close enough to walk to; if you're driving parking can be very limited and inside seating is very limited which can present a problem if dining in or trying to. Been here twice tried the chicken verde breakfast burrito, the potato, the concha, and the French toast. Tried the horchata latte too. Not bad. Food came out before the drink did so had to wait on that. Worth a try if local but between parking and limited dining space when busy it's not something to make a journey for (just my personal opinion) read more

I stopped by Masa y Taza this morning and I'm pretty sure they're still in a soft-opening phase, but first impressions were solid. From the outside, the branding immediately lets you know what you're walking into -- clean white and blue, very Mexican pottery-inspired, tasteful and intentional. You don't have to guess the vibe. Inside, the space feels modern and airy: nice tile work toward the back, open layout, lots of tables up front, with the kitchen clearly active behind the scenes. There's good energy right away -- the front line was busy with cashiers, coffee prep, and food being run out, which is always a good sign. Breakfast burrito options were plentiful and honestly all sounded good. I went with the El Chorizo Rojo burrito, but I already know I'll be back to work my way through the rest. They also have a solid coffee program going -- I tried the café de olla, and you can tell they're taking coffee seriously, not just treating it as an afterthought. There's also a small selection of baked goods; I grabbed a vanilla concha straight from the display case -- what you see is what you get, which I actually appreciate. The coffee and concha came out right away, though I did notice two things worth mentioning: there wasn't any cream or half-and-half out at the self-serve station, so I had to ask (they were happy to help), and the coffee itself wasn't quite as hot as I'd expect. Not a dealbreaker, just something they'll probably dial in as they settle into full service. Please please fix the temperature of the coffee. The burrito came out surprisingly fast. I grabbed chipotle crema and the mild rojo salsa, packed everything up, and headed a few blocks down to Junipero and Ocean to eat it by the beach -- honestly, a perfect setup. The burrito itself was legit. Big, filling, and piping hot, with a really satisfying mix of potatoes, eggs, refried beans, and chorizo. There's a light spicy kick -- enough to keep things interesting but not so much that it'll scare off people who don't like heat. I tried both sauces, and the salsa rojo was the standout for me: balanced, flavorful, and not just heat for the sake of heat. The tortilla deserves a shout-out too -- it holds everything together, tastes fresh, and elevates the whole burrito. Presentation was thoughtful: foil-wrapped, tucked into a paper box, sealed with a round branded sticker that reads Masa y Taza - Long Beach, California. Small detail, but it shows pride in what they're putting out. Overall, a really strong start. A few small kinks to iron out (coffee temp, cream station), but the food, the space, and the concept are all there. Lately the line has been out the door so it was a great idea to place an order online to avoid the wait. Service was great. They were making the latte as I arrived. It was so delicious and creamy. Everything was great about the burrito. I really did enjoy the potatoes. So next time ill have to try the potatoes with the salsa macha. I went for breakfast today and ordered their tres leches iced latte (10/10), my bf got a banana mazapán latte (10/10), and he got two breakfast tacos (chorizo with egg + egg and chile verde). I got the chilaquiles. The green chorizo breakfast taco was 1/10. The tortilla was good, but the chorizo filling was so strong with cumin, it almost tasted like Indian food. As a Mexican, I know how to cook "green" varieties of dishes and I can attest the amount of cumin was so overpowering and unnecessary. Their red chorizo has no texture it's a bit slimy and watery. I wish it had a texture that could be more traditional with meat and it be cooked well. The chilaquiles were a solid 6/10, but they use flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas. Great idea on paper and they're good until the 2 min mark comes and they all get super soggy and become mush. I want this place to succeed so bad because we need a good quality mexican breakfast joint in Long Beach, but they fall short on the details. If you're a chorizo lover, avoid it here. Don't even go for the green chorizo because it will be a bomb of cumin. Their coffee products are a 10/10 and so is their pan dulce. Furthermore, the service is a solid 12/10. The staff are so polite and friendly, I would come back again simply because I enjoyed the service and how great they are in that aspect. The Mexican food menu could use a revamp because as of now, it appears their stronger dishes are those that are not Mexican... at a Mexican adjacent restaurant. read more

Just checked out this new little breakfast café that just opened up, and wow The homemade flour tortillas are insanely good -- soft, fresh, and honestly make the whole meal next level. The breakfast burritos are the BOMB, packed with flavor and even better because of those tortillas. The French toast is AMAZING, literally melts in your mouth. You don't even need syrup or anything on it, it's that good on its own. The sauces are a MUST-try. I didn't catch all the names, but there are about five different house-made sauces, and each one has its own bold, distinct depth of flavor. You'll want to try more than one. I'm usually not a big coffee person, but their café de la olla was really great -- smooth, flavorful, and not overpowering. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.
