Came for the $3 Taco Tuesday night. Surprisingly not busy! Was worried about parking on the street but luckily we found a spot not too far of a walk away. They had sports playing on the TVs and the interior is pretty small. It's more of a casual vibe good for a chill night out. It kinda feels like a place where you order at the front and get takeout, but they have someone who will wait on your table if you choose to dine in. I came with a vegetarian friend and we had a fun time sampling the different taco meats and rating each. Here is my ranking: 1. Asada - I hate to be basic, but this was good for what it was. It tasted like they might have used mushroom meat, but this takes place as #1 for me because I think it could be a general crowd pleaser for any non-vegetarian. On the contrary, my vegetarian friend did not like it because she found it too dry. 2. Barbacoa - A very, very close second. The only reason it places behind asada is because asada is a classic. Barbacoa has good texture and I could eat a lot of these too. 3. Chorizo - This was the closest to tasting like its actual counterpart. I could eat a bunch of chorizo. Crumbly meat with lots of flavor. 4. Tinga - I'm not as familiar with tinga meat, but the pickled red onion that went with this taco gave it a savory taste. Good to try out but you're not missing out if you choose other flavors. 5. Chicken - Tasted like tofu meat? Not bad - I don't usually pick chicken for taco meat so this might be a personal preference choice. 6. Pastor - Sweet, but did not taste like pastor. Had a little trouble distinguishing between the pastor and the tinga at first, but came to the conclusion the pastor was the one with pineapple on it. I mostly prefer savory meats and while I don't mind the pineapple, the pastor I usually have is not sweet itself. If you like sweet meats, this might be worth getting. 7. Potato - Everybody can skip the potato. It's a fried potato taco, but the potato they use resembles a breakfast hash. The crispiness is nice, but the texture is flaky and the sauce doesn't save it. Even my vegetarian friend was let down by this one even though she had high hopes and usually likes potato tacos. Overall the server told us most of the taco meats were soybean based (not the pastor). I think the chorizo might be falafel, but that's a guess? Ended our meal with the Tres Leches as a dessert. Frosting is buttery and sweet (maybe a little too much frosting) but the cake goes super well with the milk. It sits in a soy milk bath which is a first for me. I wish they had added more soy milk! The menu is huge though. I was very tempted to try other stuff on the menu so I am very open to coming back and trying the breakfast platter (or getting more tacos again, yum). read more

I have been to all of the other Grain Cafes except for this one! But I recently found myself in Long Beach and hungry for some food, and this restaurant came up in my area. I ordered ahead as I was in a bit of a rush and thankfully they were very quick at preparing my food! They also didn't compromise on the quality in doing so! I managed to find a spot on the adjacent side street and was greeted as soon as I entered. The ambiance of the restaurant was bright and colorful with plenty of cozy seating both inside and outside. They also had a pastry case filled with some drool worthy cakes. The friendly employee quickly found my order. The menu was vast but I ordered an indulgent chocolate crepe, as I was craving something sweet and light. The crepe had a lovely pillowy texture and was so heavenly, both the chocolate sauce and chocolate mousse were so rich and decadent and had me wanting more! I loved the freshness, sweetness and juiciness of the berries! The coconut whipped cream really took it over the top and added a nice airiness. Their crepes are must haves and I'm dying to try more of them! I will definitely be back soon to this location or one of their other conveniently located ones! read more

So happy to have found this 100% vegan organic restaurant! The service was prompt and friendly, very knowledgeable staff. The food was excellent. I had the sautéed kale with tempeh. The flavors were excellent and the tempeh was tender but not mushy, and had no bitterness at all. It was very well seasoned. My husband had the huevos rancheros and it was really good too!! So... I decided to try this spot due to some food restrictions I've been cursed upon. I mostly can't have dairy or highly acidic foods or spicy stuff. I went in, nice environment. Lots of seating available and only one server but he was quick and kind. I ordered one Super Roll and a Coco Paradise Smoothie. The smoothie was pretty good, it tasted mostly of banana and I kinda liked the pieces of coconut flakes within each sip. So I was pleased by that. However, the roll genuinely disappointed me. It was basically just unseasoned veggies wrapped in seaweed. I also wasn't fond of the sauce, it tasted a bit like watered down mustard. I'm aware there's other menu options that might meet my needs. So I'm willing to give it a second chance with a different menu item. Hopefully it'll be much better. But for now, I give it a big no on the veggie sushi. This vegan hot spot is right up my alley! It's been so fun exploring Belmont and the Grain Cafe has quickly become one of my repeat spots. This healthy eatery serves up vegan and gluten free bites. They have an extensive menu of breakfast, lunch, and dessert items. The inside is adorable and feels like it's straight out of a 90s sitcom. They also have a small outdoor patio that's perfect for pets and sun soaking. I ordered their energy juice (bananas, dates, and Yerba mate) as well as the chilaquiles plate with red sauce. At first it seems like a Mexican spot based on the decor but the menu has a bit of everything. Loved how breakfast is available all day. I always love an experience at one of The Grain Cafe locations, but this was my first time at the location in Long Beach. The unique thing about this location is they have an added Oaxacan menu full of even more delicious options that do not disappoint! The service was super friendly and our waitress gave great recommendations, the ambiance is very casual and chill, but it can get a little stuffy inside when it's hot. Here are some of the highlights: 4/5 - Dargon Roll: "Tuna", cucumber, carrots, avocado, and a side of soy sauce. A great light and delicious appetizer. Pro tip: the "Tuna" like paste is a little salty, so don't overdo the soy sauce to avoid that extra salty flavor. 5/5 - Chilaqulies Verde: corn tortilla chips, onions, mushroom, zucchini and tofu egg, sautéed in a salsa verde, topped with homemade sour cream, cheese, and avocado. The cake was great and tasty and moist and coffee is good. The decor, for me, dark and rustic feeling and they have a waterfall wall so it's relaxing. The place is right on the corner of 4th Street & Ximeno Ave so you got the corner view of both streets. They do have indoor and outdoor seating for all seasons. They do have other plain base foods but we're here in the morning so couldn't able to try the foods yet but my friends said that it was great with reasonable price too. Do not order the "chili relleno" or the "huevos rancheros" from here. So horrible! The chili relleno had NO VEGAN CHEESE. What kind of chili relleno has no cheese inside it??? The huevo rancheros were equally as skimpy and just lacked favor. Instead of using the same vegan egg that they put on the avocado toast they just sprinkled vegan tofu egg on top, and I mean *sprinkle. That is not huevos rancheros! I have eaten here before and really liked the veggie wrap and the smoothie but they do not have good vegan Mexican food. They make white versions of vegan Mexican. I read that we're having a smoothies and juices and my curiosity just took me in there and I got to try one of the most popular smoothies that girl tell me the berry berry what's one of the customers favorite. I was looking for something green honestly, but since I hear that I was like OK, let's give it a shot. My concern was a little bit about the sweetness. But then when they give it to me, I tried out and it was delicious. It hit the spot that really worked out or replacing me a meal for another hour. This was looking pretty busy. They were at least six tables busy so that means the food is good. I didn't read the menu too closely and was pleasantly surprised to see it was a vegan chicken that they use. I've tried vegan chicken at other places and it wasn't as good as it was here. I ordered the Mojotes which are masa dough filled with the perfect amount of potatoes and chorizo salsa, topped with black bean sauce, cabbage, avocado salsa and cheese bedded on romaine lettuce. The place also has homemade desserts which I bought my son a slice of pie to take home. The only negative comment I can make about this location is the tap water. It was a long time coming, but a few weeks back, we finally made it out to the Grain Cafe. The inside of the place has a mellow vibe, nothing over the top. We were greeted by a friendly host and proceeded to order. We tried the Mole Burrito, which consisted of Daiya cheese, mushrooms, onions, zucchini, cabbage, chard, bell peppers, and "chicken," all wrapped in a spinach tortilla, topped with their homemade mole sauce. It was served with your choice of black or pinto beans and Spanish rice. The burrito itself was decent, though it didn't have much "chicken." The mole was very flavorful, as were the vegetables. As for the sides, I'd recommend going with all beans, the rice, in my opinion, tasted like a premade Spanish rice packet. We also tried the nachos with "chicken." Unlike the burrito, the nachos had plenty of "chicken" and were very good! The squeeze bottle of hot sauce was also a hit not only really tasty but legit!
