One day, I decided to have lunch at the Golden Eagle Restaurant in Signal Hill, which unfortunately turned out to be a regretful decision. Before arriving, we confirmed that their patio was pet-friendly, which I appreciated. However, I wasn't fond of the service. I felt rushed by the older woman who was helping us, and she even cut me off mid-sentence. I ordered the grilled chicken club, while my boyfriend ordered a small chili cheese fries. I also ordered three sides of thousand island dressing and a burger patty for our fur baby. My fries were stale and seemed to have been refried. The chicken club itself was decent. Unfortunately, I developed a really bad stomachache afterward that lasted for the rest of the day. The sausage and bacon was...hard? Like overcooked, not good. It also lacked cheese. Not really sure why it's called "home of the breakfast burrito" as it states on their sign. The only good thing about it was the size - it was quite large. I may or may not go back for something else but certainly not for the breakfast burrito. Man was I hungry! I'd just finished my swim and had not had anything to eat since waking up this morning. I knew about this place years ago, but for some reason, always passed it by. Since I seem to be a bit more adventurous after having moved to Chicago? I decided to try it. It's one of those places where you order at the counter, pay at the counter, and they bring the food out to your table. And, Nash, they give you a coffee cup, and you get to fill the coffee up from an air pot they have at the end of the counter area. The best part? The prices were extremely reasonable, especially in this day and age! They even have a special breakfast for under $10! Sacrilege! I'm surprised other restaurants in the area. I haven't tried to light their building on fire with those low prices! And what a spread! Take a look at the picture I've attached to this review! Look at it! Four piece pieces of sausage, three eggs, hashbrowns, toast! My god! This wasn't the cheapest breakfast they had, but it was a really competitive price and the food tasted great! Will I come again? I ate breakfast at lunch time and it was the most glorious way to spend a Monday morning. First time here, so I went with the basic: #3 sausage & eggs ($11.99). Breakfast is served with 3 eggs, hashbrowns, and your choice of toast. My entree came with four sausages. Oh boy. My breakfast platter was so good. First of all, the eggs are buttered, the hashbrowns are buttered, and so is the toast. What is not to love? The hashbrowns are perfect - the potatoes are sliced into meatier slivers, buttered, then crisped on the grill. The sourdough toast was toasting - perfect to soak up all the egg yolk from my over easy eggs. If you order coffee, you have free rein to pour yourself a cup, however, someone will come around to top you off if you need a little more. Years ago, I used to live close to here, and it's been that long since I've been back. The breakfast burrito has egg, cheese, crisp hashbrowns, bacon, sausage and pico. I also had a cup of coffee. The burrito was huge. I loved it. Nicely proportioned eggs to hashbrowns, along with crisp bacon, sausage, cheese and pico. I also added the hot sauce to each bite of the burrito. The breakfast burrito ranks with the best of them. Golden Eagle's menu also offers burgers, pastrami, other breakfast plates, fries, onion rings like other fast food joints like this. Service is nice and friendly. There's plenty of off street parking. There's also an outdoor patio to dine. Right across from the Costco in Signal Hill, the Golden Eagle Restaurant Long Beach serves up family-style comfort food similar to what I grew up in Chicagoland Greek restaurants, except with a SoCal twist (e.g. Good Breakfast burritos!). Golden Eagle Signal Hill has been around since 1988 (the original opened in 1971 in Torrance). There's a dedicate parking lot, but it seems to fill up quickly. It is set-up as fast food, where you get in line, place/pay your order (no opportunity for tip), and then find a place to sit. They do serve lunch and dinner as well (with a small menu), but we came for their all-day breakfast. Customers seem to come in waves: One minute there could be nobody in line to order, and the next, a line going back to the back. Coffee and soda is self serve, and the station is next to the order-taking register, which causes congestion....nothing a couple of 'excuse-me's' couldn't solve. The coffee station had sugar (but no substitutes) and single serve creamers. My mother-in-law said her small coffee ($3.19) was fine. Our food came out pretty quickly (with silverware and napkins), delivered by a super-congenial young man, who offered extra plates, silverware, and more salsa for my burrito. The winner meal was the Hot Cakes Combo, choice of meat ($13.39 even though the menu board said $13.99). It is even cheaper ($10.89) if ordered before 11 (we just missed it). The 3 Hot cakes were so fluffy, just loved by my wife and Mom. I had a bite and it was very good, very light. It came with choice of egg and meat (scrambled and bacon in our case). There were 5 strips of thick cut bacon, very crispy (almost shattering as you bit down) if that's how you like it. If you search for best breakfast burrito in Long Beach, Golden Eagle seems to pop up a lot. I liked mine ($10.79), filled with both bacon and sausage. It had a lightly seasoned homemade salsa inside, so the extra salsa that I got was useful. One thing I noticed is that the egg inside was prepared like an omelet (with the diced vegetables and bacon mixed in), and then the thin omelet being rolled along with tortilla and melted cheddar cheese...resulting in a well balanced burrito in each bite. It's a smart way to make it. It was big enough for me to bring half of it home. Each table has needed condiments, like syrup, ketchup and hot sauce (both Tabasco and Tapatio), along with napkins. I mention this since there really isn't table service (though they do deliver the food and will bus). So having some cash for tip before you leave is a good idea. read more

This has been a "goto" for for my family for more than 30 years. But like all good things, it got sold. Prices have gone up ... yes, they have gone up everywhere, but they have REALLY GONE UP HERE. No one smiles here anymore. It gone from incessant smiles to actually seeing frowns and scowls. Is that coming from the new owner? I dunno. But it's like everyone hates their job. This used to be a fun, friendly place with never ending smiles! The cashier never smiles and she gets impatient. You can't substitute any more! What? What? Substitution is what made it work for all those years. I don't care if you need to charge me a little more but don't tell me I can't have this or that ... give what I want and just tell me how much it's going to cost me! You're already charging a premium. My buddies who I rotate around the area for our weekly lunch ... the last three times, we walked away saying we need to drop Golden Eagle from rotation and add someone else, John, Dale's or even Curley's. We keep coming back but I don't know how much longer. Just this morning my wife wanted to change up her breakfast ... she was told no. No??? No? Just build the damned breakfast she wants and tell her how much! If your non-smiling cashier can't handle the math, then maybe you need a new cashier ... let her go on the floor and not smile as she refills coffee like she already does! In the end the food is still the same good food you've always gotten her ... but you can get good a lot of places for the same price where they actually take your order at the table, and service you ... WITH A SMILE like they are happy you came and spent your money there ... rather than being just another pain in the ass customer making them have to work! Arrrrgh! read more

This place is always busy for breakfast!!! When we first walked in there was a wait for a table, but i'm assuming because we got there right at the end of breakfast hour within a few minutes the place was almost empty. Night and day for when we first walked in. Honestly, the food is OK, but I don't know what the rave is. It's just hamburger stand style food. Maybe the rave is because of the service because they are always on point and super nice. The restaurant is nothing fancy again just a hamburger stand. The staff has a great job of keeping it clean and turning over the tables quickly. Overall, nothing bad to say there is just nothing that stands out to make me wanna come back so quickly. read more

Great experience, customer for life. Just moved to the area and was looking for a burger spot. Came here on the way home to grab food for the family. Stopped in and everyone was polite. Fast service. Headed home. When I got home I realized I didn't have my cash on me. I must have dropped it. I gave my family the food and rushed back. I expected it to be gone and whomever found it to take it. It's was over $100. I pull up and as soon as I walk in the guy working the counter says "you forgot some money!". They had it in the back wrapped in a fry bag and stapled. They knew someone lost it and were honest enough to have it ready. I tipped them $30 and rushed home to grub. The food still tasted great. They even lettuce wrapped my wife's burger since she can't eat gluten. Tasty fries. Crispy onion rings. Orange bang to drink. Perfect dinner to cap a stressful half hour. Great to see this place has not only great food but honest employees. This is our new go to spot. Can't wait to try more of the menu. The chorizo breakfast burrito was tasty and very filling. I also liked their fluffy french toast and club sandwich with french fries. The fries were perfectly crispy and fresh. The workers are also friendly and running around serving people their orders to their tables. It is a pretty big diner with plenty of booths and tables. They offer a self service drink machine however when I went, the horchata ole machine was not working and when I pointed it out to the workers, they said they would fix it or try to get me a cup but that didn't happen. I've had it several times, and it's consistently solid. Is it the best breakfast burrito I've ever had? No. But it's definitely one of the best in the Long Beach/Signal Hill area, and for some people, it might just be their number one. The service is always on point. The staff is friendly, efficient, and more than capable of handling the full menu -- which goes way beyond just breakfast burritos. There's plenty of seating both indoors and out. I usually opt for a table inside, but on a nice California morning, sitting outside with a hot cup of coffee and a good breakfast really hits the spot. Out with the old in with the new. Been coming here for the last 25 years, food (especially breakfast and coffee )and workers the best. We came to eat breakfast 2 months after owner sold the restaurant and food was still the same. Even I don't live near I still take the drive to eat here. Now that I came months after everything has changed . First thing I noticed was cashier was very rude and coffee switched tasting different. .previous coffee was epic. I wanted to really give a place I've been coming here the benefit of the doubt, but sadly food changed. The ham and eggs I've been eating for years was now so disappointing. I feel so bad a place that you can count on for great food any time you would go has now vanished and time to look for new place or hopefully new owners opened new location. My last review was 7 years ago. I appreciate the consistency at Golden Eagle. I always get the broasted chicken dinner which is made hour and fresh to order with 4 large pieces of chicken which comes with a basic green salad, fries, onion rings and a grilled dinner roll. I have two requests: 1. Except for the salad, the dinner is all carbs. I'd really enjoy having an option of potato salad instead of the onion rings, or an ear of corn would be nice. 2. The second request is to offer a fresh turkey dinner during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Roast turkey not the watery roll turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce.
