Waiting for Costco to open. Golden Eagle is consistently great for classic breakfast. Pancakes and the Chorizo breakfast burrito special are always fire. The pastrami is also very good.

    3egg breakfast!

Man was I hungry! I'd just finished my swim and had not had anything to eat since waking up this morning. I knew about this place years ago, but for some reason, always passed it by. Since I seem to be a bit more adventurous after having moved to Chicago? I decided to try it. It's one of those places where you order at the counter, pay at the counter, and they bring the food out to your table. And, Nash, they give you a coffee cup, and you get to fill the coffee up from an air pot they have at the end of the counter area. The best part? The prices were extremely reasonable, especially in this day and age! They even have a special breakfast for under $10! Sacrilege! I'm surprised other restaurants in the area. I haven't tried to light their building on fire with those low prices! And what a spread! Take a look at the picture I've attached to this review! Look at it! Four piece pieces of sausage, three eggs, hashbrowns, toast! My god! This wasn't the cheapest breakfast they had, but it was a really competitive price and the food tasted great! Will I come again? I can guarantee you that when I retire and move back to Southern California? Oh yeah, this will be one of my favorite spots- try it and tell me what you think!

I've been here so many times. I've tried the chicken, pastrami and burgers. It's all delicious. This place is clean and I've yet to encounter anything wrong. I love it!!!

    #11 denver omelette + hashbrowns + sourdough toast = $13.39

I ate breakfast at lunch time and it was the most glorious way to spend a Monday morning. First time here, so I went with the basic: #3 sausage & eggs ($11.99). Breakfast is served with 3 eggs, hashbrowns, and your choice of toast. My entree came with four sausages. Oh boy. My breakfast platter was so good. First of all, the eggs are buttered, the hashbrowns are buttered, and so is the toast. What is not to love? The hashbrowns are perfect - the potatoes are sliced into meatier slivers, buttered, then crisped on the grill. The sourdough toast was toasting - perfect to soak up all the egg yolk from my over easy eggs. If you order coffee, you have free rein to pour yourself a cup, however, someone will come around to top you off if you need a little more. Mind you, this is a fast casual set situation, so that minor attention to service really won me over. I love Golden Eagle. It gives home-y diner vibes with a fast casual set up.

    Pastrami sandwich. Moist and yummy!
    Gina C.

I am very pleased to announce that the pastrami sandwich from days of old is back and very much enjoyable. It's soft and it's moist. It's perfectly thick slices but they're so tender. No joke people, don't sit on this. Go get it now!

This is the 3rd time I go here and my pancakes come out burn. Honestly mid place. The employees got attitude.

Best food ever. I ordered cheese eggs and they were so tasty I didn't have to add any seasoning. The orange juice is squeezed fresh and is divine. Country fried steak and gravy is sublime. My place to eat.

Right across from the Costco in Signal Hill, the Golden Eagle Restaurant Long Beach serves up family-style comfort food similar to what I grew up in Chicagoland Greek restaurants, except with a SoCal twist (e.g. Good Breakfast burritos!). Golden Eagle Signal Hill has been around since 1988 (the original opened in 1971 in Torrance). There's a dedicate parking lot, but it seems to fill up quickly. It is set-up as fast food, where you get in line, place/pay your order (no opportunity for tip), and then find a place to sit. They do serve lunch and dinner as well (with a small menu), but we came for their all-day breakfast. Customers seem to come in waves: One minute there could be nobody in line to order, and the next, a line going back to the back. Coffee and soda is self serve, and the station is next to the order-taking register, which causes congestion....nothing a couple of 'excuse-me's' couldn't solve. The coffee station had sugar (but no substitutes) and single serve creamers. My mother-in-law said her small coffee ($3.19) was fine. Our food came out pretty quickly (with silverware and napkins), delivered by a super-congenial young man, who offered extra plates, silverware, and more salsa for my burrito. The winner meal was the Hot Cakes Combo, choice of meat ($13.39 even though the menu board said $13.99). It is even cheaper ($10.89) if ordered before 11 (we just missed it). The 3 Hot cakes were so fluffy, just loved by my wife and Mom. I had a bite and it was very good, very light. It came with choice of egg and meat (scrambled and bacon in our case). There were 5 strips of thick cut bacon, very crispy (almost shattering as you bit down) if that's how you like it. If you search for best breakfast burrito in Long Beach, Golden Eagle seems to pop up a lot. I liked mine ($10.79), filled with both bacon and sausage. It had a lightly seasoned homemade salsa inside, so the extra salsa that I got was useful. One thing I noticed is that the egg inside was prepared like an omelet (with the diced vegetables and bacon mixed in), and then the thin omelet being rolled along with tortilla and melted cheddar cheese...resulting in a well balanced burrito in each bite. It's a smart way to make it. It was big enough for me to bring half of it home. Each table has needed condiments, like syrup, ketchup and hot sauce (both Tabasco and Tapatio), along with napkins. I mention this since there really isn't table service (though they do deliver the food and will bus). So having some cash for tip before you leave is a good idea.

    Carne asada burritos
    Dee N.

I have continued to come here for their carne asada burrito. But today, I noticed they changed the meat. We have ordered three of the burritos. All three burritos carne asada meat is smaller (chopped up) and dry compared to the big juicy meat that they use to used. And the burritos was smaller in size. I'm alittle disappointed at the change in recipe. The taste was different. I hope they change it back soon to the original recipe.

Revisit? Definitely. Great for weekend breakfast…read more Sunrise Cafe never disappoints. It's just what a casual diner should be: delicious, generous with the portions, and efficient. I usually order the Popeye Omelet with home fries and toast. Everything is seasoned well and the ingredients taste fresh. Other things I've tried include the Chilaquiles, French Dip, Kids Scrambled Egg Breakfast with French Toast, and Posole. Everything is classic and reliably good. You'll think, wow, I'll probably need a box to-go, but somehow you'll eat it all in one sitting! Sometimes you have to write your name down at the check-in stand out front in order to get a table. But I've never had to wait too long. The servers really pay attention to anything you might need without rushing you or asking lots of questions. So I think that's how they keep the wait time short. The vibes here are just 10/10 for a family breakfast. Our toddler likes watching the model train that circles the upper windows of the restaurant. It's busy so there's lots of pleasant background noise. You can watch the traffic go by on Lakewood Blvd. Prices aren't too steep. I've ordered takeout and delivery from here as well and never had any complaints. Parking can be hard to find in the lot right next to the restaurant but can usually be found right away in the back lot. Overall, just a nice neighborhood spot to eat.

I really enjoyed their Mexican dishes but preferred the breakfast menu overall. The hobo omelet and breakfast potatoes had great flavor. However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing, tasting like store-bought biscuits and canned gravy--probably from Costco or Sam's Club. Coffee was very good, but I wish someone would walk around constantly refilling cups. Overall, a decent spot with some room for improvement.

I appreciate the fact that they fry their potatoes and beef tallow. You can really taste a difference I experienced this rare occasion where a drink listed on the seasonal drink menu was written out in a way that gave the impression I was buying a milk-tea and not a coffee base drink. Once it was made, I noticed the taste after walking out the door. I immediately came back to the barista and asked her if she can take the COFFEE out. She looked at me and said she'd have to charge me, even after explaining to her that their menu is a bit confusing based on how the specialty drink was written as a tea. I didn't feel comfortable continuing to argue the points so I just took the drink and discreetly threw it in the trash because I do not like coffee. As much as I order for my office and as often as I pick up from this location, this one incident completely threw me off. Being fair I do understand companies have cost, but my goodness I made a great point about the description. I can't lie. It was a bit of a turn off. I don't think I've ordered a drink since and I've been back at least 20 times. So calculate the cost of a drink which is roughly 9 dollars - each time that is revenue, this company has not received Other than that the few breakfast items I order are always consistent and the kitchen staff are the best. If anything, I know they remember you when you walk in because I can see you from the window. I can appreciate that. Just a note Please be consistent with the guacamole. Sometimes it's salted sometimes it is not and it really sucks when you get all the way to your office and that component is just lackluster. It happens. But I would recommend.

Everything feels clean, classy and thoughtfully put together. When you first arrive, seeing the line out the door can be a little intimidating. Usually at places like this, I feel like I have to fight for my life to find a table, but thankfully that wasn't the case here. The staff was very kind and asks how many are in your party and helps you get a table, which made everything much less stressful. They also give you menus while you wait so you can decide what you want ahead of time. We arrived at 10:30am and our wait was about 30 minutes so by the time we were able to order at 11am, the lunch menu was also available. I ordered the tater tots, Cinnagave Shaken Espresso, Dutch Baby Pancake and country sourdough toast with jam. With tax and tip, my total came out to around $40. It's definitely pricier than what I normally pay for breakfast. Most entrées range from $17-$34 and coffees are around $5-$10, so you can easily spend $30+ for one person. In these hard times, that's not exactly ideal for me. I also wanted to try a pastry to get the full experience, but when I found out the small blackberry danish was $7, I decided to pass. I just couldn't justify getting that close to $50 for breakfast for one person. Now for the food! The country sourdough toast with jam was actually my favorite item. The homemade sourdough was incredible and honestly deserves its roses. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it was so well done and easily the standout for me. Visually, the Dutch Baby Pancake was beautiful and definitely impressive when it came out. I've always wanted to try one, so I was excited! I will say, I've read everywhere that Dutch babies are supposed to have more of a custardy center and even the photos I've seen look that way. Mine didn't really have that texture at all and tasted more like a crepe. Maybe it was a little overcooked? It wasn't bad, just not quite what I expected. Still delicious! Unfortunately, the tater tots were the biggest disappointment. They weren't crispy, didn't taste seasoned and sort of fell apart until they became one big potato mess. My cousins and I ended up not finishing them. One of my cousins ordered the summer peach and corn salad, which she liked! Just a heads-up that it's only available after 11 a.m. My other cousin got the skillet, she mentioned feeling a little disappointed since it tasted a little dry and didn't finish her plate. However they both ordered the Curious George drink and LOVED it! The Cinnagave Shaken Espresso was also fantastic. Coffee is definitely something they do very well here and I can see myself getting again. Overall, the aesthetics are adorable and I could see this being a great date spot. The coffee was fantastic, the sourdough was amazing, but the rest of the food was just okay for us. That was a little disappointing because everything sounds SO good on paper. Maybe we just caught them on an off day. The prices are probably the biggest thing holding me back from coming back regularly. Spending $30-$40+ per person for breakfast isn't really in my budget right now, but if this is within your price range, you may have a completely different experience. When I review a place, I try to take the overall experience, personal taste and effort into account. For now, I'm leaving Zuzu's Petals at 4 stars because the effort is definitely there, and what isn't my cup of tea may be someone else's liquid gold. I'd still give them another chance in the future... after I get paid!
