Came in on a sunny Sunday afternoon that also happened to be my birthday. I've been meaning to try this burger joint for a while now and finally decided to stop by and check them out. Located at the front end (or tail depending which direction you're coming from) of 2nd street, it's a small little burger spot right at the corner. I ordered a cheeseburger with a side of fries and waited about 15 minutes for them. Quite frankly, I was not very impressed with both the burger and the fries. The burger was cooked medium rare, which is my preference, but it lacked flavor. I will say the patty did have slightly crispy edges which was tasty. I have been wanting to try this place ever since it opened, because I am on a quest for the best burgers in Long Beach. It took me so long because reviews from other diners are not that enthusiastic, and now I see why. Comparing their smash burger to In-N-Out is a good starting point, as I see many similarities. Both burgers are made from fresh, quality ingredients, and both are topped off with a sauce that looks suspiciously like Thousand Island salad dressing. That's where the similarities end. Their buns are not grilled to a toasty perfection, and their dressing seems watered down. For some reason, my cheeseburger was stuffed with layers and layers of sliced pickles. I like pickles, but I have never seen so much pickles in a burger. Did I mention that their burger is loaded with pickles? I don't know whether the pickle overdose is intentional or accidental. It could be the product of a glitch in the assembly process, where twice as much pickles were loaded onto the patty. It was my first burger form Win-Dow after all. I also heard great things about their fries. Not surprisingly, they're often compared to In-N-Out fries too. However, the In-N-Out beloved fries beat their fries by a mile, based on taste, texture, and quantity. It turned out that I was right to be hesitant about trying their burger and fries. Love the smash burgers here! Definitely one of the best in Long Beach. The patties are smashed onto thinly sliced onions on the grill and have a nice char on them. The pickles are thick and cut nicely through the fattiness of the meat and cheese. The bun is also nice and soft. Satisfying and consistently good smash burger every time! The fries are just like McDonalds fries, but way better because they're nice and fresh and not overly salty. I like to get a side of the house sauce for dipping (seems to be a mix of mayo and ketchup based sauce?) If you don't mind walking a bit, you can park on the one-way residential streets and walk over. Service is extremely quick. You can walk up to the front counter to order labelled Order OR order online (and pick-up on the side by the label window labelled Online Pick-up). If you ordered in-person, you'll hear your name called out over the speakers and can pick it up the counter serve Pick-up window for pickups. They do get busy no matter the time of day, but I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes at their busiest. Parking was super easy and the line wasn't long. The Win-Dow is located on the corner on Second Street and being it was such a beautiful day out, we walked all of Second Street, worked up an appetite, walked back and ordered. Unlike the Win-Dow in Venice and at the Grove, this location is not attached to the American Beauty restaurant. Its just a stand alone location, with no indoor seating - just seating around the building. We ordered double cheeseburgers and they were SO GOOD! It has the right amount of cheese and the grilled onion make it even better. We also ordered fries, kale salad and a shake and everything was really good. The Win-Dow is by far is the best burger in town and you can't be the price for the quality of the food. It was beautiful day, had a great burger, got to spend time with my nephew, and check out what he's been working so hard on - I had a great day.
