Came to attend a MASA seminar and we were treated to a lunch. Ordered the filet with shrimp. The French bread was warm and filling. Their house salad was huge and came in an elongated bowl. We had creamy mashed potatoes and overcooked broccoli for the table. Then came the filet in a sizzling hot plate. It was a little tough so I think it was a sirloin and not a filet mignon. I went to Ruth's Chris for my friend's birthday, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. My steak was so good seasoned to perfection and cooked exactly the way I like it. Everything was fire, and the service made the night even better. Loved our server she was sweet and funny. I had scheduled a table (via open table) for a Friday Night for 5 at 7:30pm on a Friday night weeks in advance as I was in town for a convention and a business dinner. I found out day of around noon that we were asked to add one to our reservation with our client. So I went to open table to modify my reservation to 6, however it said that was no longer an option at 7:30pm. I get it. It's a Friday night, prime dinner time slot, in Long Beach on a nice weather day and a huge convention in town. They might actually be booked up. But I figure I'd call and ask because you can't always trust open table. So then about 2 hours later by pure chance the restaurant calls me to confirm my reservation! What luck, what service, and a nice surprise. I say things like "I'm so glad you checked in. Yes I'll be coming. By any chance can I add one to my reservation." Because in my head, and most people would think this way I think, if you have a person reservation you are probably at a round table or booth or something that should fit 6. I am unaware of any pentagon tables at most restaurants! So I go on with my reservation checker, "I'm not sure of your seating chart or table arrangement but if you have it figured out and we're at a larger circle table or something else could I add one more". And I get an absolute hard No and that it's not possible at your existing time. So I foolishly accept that answer thinking open table must have been right, it's Friday night, it'll be busy and crowded I guess when we get there. So I have to call my client and tell my coworker that the restaurant unfortunately can't handle another person. I even joke with them if we show up and at a 6 person table... So our plus one had to go find other dinner plans and spend their money elsewhere. So fast forward to the actual reservation (for 5). We show up a hair early. Everything is nice. The staff greats us. I hear them even ask someone in another party to remove their baseball cap when heading to the dining room. How fancy and appreciative that there is a dress code they follow. And when our party is finally there we head back behind the check in desk to the dining room. It's beautiful, it's stunning, it's partially full but surely other parties are still arriving. And we get to our table and it's a @&$&& 6 person rectangular table. And now I'm pissed. And I've got my coworkers looking at my like what is happening and mouthing to me this is unbelievable. So we are all in a bit of shock. And I do mention this to our hostess who is seating us that I was told there was no way we could add an extra seat to our party. She apologies profusely which I appreciate the recognition of the mistake and having to deal with an issue her reservation checking coworker has left her to deal with. So the good news the 6th spare chair was an excellent spot to hold my client's bag. Not a very good conversationalist unfortunately and certainly the bag didn't meet the dress code of the dining room. So in the end we had what I would think is a modestly nice, work expensed, and decent spend per seat. We don't go crazy on a drinks or a bottle of wine, but I suppose we could have easily. But we only really starting parting when there are 6 of us! Still A total of $756 or $153 dollars a person is a nice meal for the night. And without taking up another table and increasing your turnover yield you could have easily had another $150-200 of income the other night with little effort or additional overhead work. And also worth mentioning by the time we went through our meal there were numerous tables available that never filed up. You had more tables still available! As for an actual review of the food. Overall the actual dining experience was very pleasant. This is certainly on a normal day a solid 4 star place. But for today's review you get docked for my embarrassment I had to endure with my clients at dinner gets you a 2.5-3 star review. Our actual waiter for the night was fantastic. Attentive.l, great appetizer suggestions,thanks again for the ravioli suggestions. A tad funny. Refilled my delicious Arnold Palmer numerous times. Kept the table clean. Took care of our clients food allergy concerns. (Huge plus for bringing out the allergy free items entirely separate from the other dishes) And rattled off the dessert list numerous times for us. I came the week they first opened and told myself I wouldn't be back because the service was terribly slow and the food was just okay. Fast forward almost three years later, and we decided to give Ruth's Chris another try, and I'm glad we did because the experience was much better. We had reservations for 6:30 PM and waited about 10 minutes for our table, which wasn't a big deal. Once seated, the service was a huge improvement. Our waitress was very attentive and offered great recommendations. We ordered the 3-course prix fixe menu ($60). I had the Caesar salad, a 6 oz filet with shrimp, one side (roasted Brussels sprouts), and classic cheesecake for dessert. Everything was delicious. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the Caesar salad. Parking is a little tricky. One of my favorite steakhouses . Made reservations for a Saturday night for my best friend's birthday party of 8 and it's was okay. The reservation was made for 830 maybe because it was a little busy we waited about 20 minutes for our table no biggie. I like the mode lighting and semi intimate setting . I had a citrus honey martini ; it was good I would have liked it to be a bit stronger and little more honey flavor My meal I got the Ruth classic which comes with a starter , entree & side and dessert. I got filet and shrimp with creamed spinach everything was cooked to perfection . My only issue was the timing of food . Was also told they were out of lobster Mac and cheese but there was lobster for entrees. I got my filet and shrimp and then about 20 or so minutes got my creamed spinach and mac & cheese that was ordered for the table . So I did eat my steak first because i didn't want it to get cold. Been quite a while since I've come by for Happy Hour. First off, I was delighted to see Anthony still behind the bar! He gave us their updated Happy Hour menu! I like the new choices albeit their hamburger is not an HH item, it remains on the bar menu. Huge servings of truffle fries (looked great) waltzed by but we checked out other things including the new pork bites (great); the Ahi tuna (always good), the new meatballs (yummy) and the calamari (bit too sweet for me). Their house cabernet sauvignon is really quite charming. Not too bold but plenty of flavor. Service always good. The truffle fries were good but some fries were crispier than others. A tad bit on the salty/oily side. The dipping sauce was delicious. We got the cowboy ribeye to share with Brussels sprouts for our main. Love that the steak comes on a sizzling buttery plate. The Brussels sprouts were good but had a ton of oil/butter at the bottom of the plate. The steak was cooked at a medium rare to our liking with a crispy edge. The seasoning is a tad bit on the salty side but it would go perfectly with a side of mashed potatoes and bread. The ambiance at this location is more on the relaxed/casual side. I've been to the San Diego and Del Mar locations and they seem to be more "upscale" with a more trendy modern feel of the decoration and customer base. Ruth Chris has always been one of my go to spots for steak. Keep in mind that your arteries might feel a little clogged after eating here with the amount of butter they use. **Long detailed review** So, I didn't want to do this, but because I felt completely dismissed by the restaurant's manager during his follow-up, here we are. I came to the restaurant with my mom, aunts, cousin, and friend to celebrate my birthday and graduation (both were on this day, June 10th). Our servers were nice, but they were a little uneducated about how the restaurant's food is prepared. I got the chef's special 11oz steak and lobster and asked for my steak to be prepared medium. However, when I received it, I was given a medium well/closer to well-done steak. Once I informed one of the servers, I was told it was Ruth's Chris' version of medium... I've been to this restaurant a few times before and plenty of other steakhouses -- 555, Ocean 48, Capital Grille, Mastro's, the list goes on. I know how a medium steak is prepared. They did offer to take it back, and my new one was then a medium rare, which was fine. I prefer this over half-gray steak. BUT this time, my lobster had clearly been reheated, as it was curled tightly within its shell and stiff. My mother and aunt ordered the butterfly fish over lobster and shrimp risotto. The entire dish was bad. The crust on their fish was salty to the point where it was unbearable to eat, and they had to completely remove it. Their risotto was CRUNCHY! When addressing the fact that the risotto was crunchy, the servers told us, "This is how our chef prepares the risotto here." Umm, okay? We absolutely love risotto. I have never in my life had crunchy risotto or heard of any restaurant serving crunchy risotto. So they were both left with salty fish and crunchy rice. Now, what prompted this review... I left feedback online, and their manager, Anthony, reached out to hear more about what happened. You would assume the first thing he'd say would be somewhere along the lines of, "First and foremost, I'm sorry about your experience..." Instead, I was met with, "So tell me what happened..." Once I explained everything above, it felt like my concerns were being dismissed. He even muted the call when I was explaining why I felt that way. I had to ask him for his feedback on everything I presented to him, because he was trying to end the call. He then went on to explain the color their medium steak is supposed to be and then hit me with, "But I wasn't there, so I don't know..." When it came to the lobster, he said the servers told him that the lobster was left on the table (which was false). I told him it wasn't. They were served on the same plate, so how would that even make sense? Then he says, "Well, they would never reheat a lobster." Again, I explained how the lobster was curled tightly (an indication of being overcooked from a reheat) and that it was also tough. Again, he responded with, "Well, I wasn't there, so I don't know." He then went on to address the fish and risotto. He acknowledged that the risotto isn't supposed to be crunchy and also added that the crust on the fish shouldn't have salt added, and that it is only supposed to be butter. To this, I told him that this was even more concerning because there clearly was a significant amount of salt added to the dish. When I mentioned my mom and aunt having high blood pressure, he responded with, "Well, yeah, this is why you should ask about what's added to the dish to avoid something like this." ASTONISHING coming from a "manager." Had they even asked about the salt content, based on how HE explained the dish is prepared, they would have been in the clear. But again, I was met with "I wasn't there," which made the entire situation feel like an "it is what it is" response. I don't know if he thinks I'm just trying to get a meal out of this, or if he simply doesn't care, or maybe he thinks my party and I aren't used to eating at nice restaurants and don't know how food should be prepared. But honestly, my conversation with him and the lack of "I'm sorrys" or genuine understanding was far worse than the experience itself. I will NEVER patronize this restaurant again. If I have to, it'll be the Irvine location, close to home. Or if I am in LB, 555 is just down the way and is 10x better, with far better service. read more
