I used to love this restaurant, but it went downhill hard and I won't be back. Tonight my wife & I went for our anniversary. The place was mostly empty and oddly quiet -- no music or anything. The waiter took a long time to come around, and kept complaining about how slammed he was even though there was hardly anyone there. The menu was reduced to just three main courses because of some major holiday rush they were expecting (which again was not happening at all; it was July 3rd), and they had hardly any appetizers. No shrimp cocktails, no ceviche. None of our favorite dishes were available. We should've left, but it was our anniversary and we had a reservation. So we both ordered the salmon and a glass of wine and nothing else. The food came and looked nice, was well cooked, but totally flavorless. No seasoning at all. No salt, no citrus, no spice. Terrible. Served over a sauce that seemed to just be mayonnaise. We started in on it, in this strange quiet empty environment, with no server in sight. We were just kind of getting through it, since it was our anniversary and we were trying to have a good time. By the time we saw the waiter again we were 75% done, and I had to say something. This food was awful. He sent over the manager, who said he wished we would have said something earlier. Well, there was nobody around to tell earlier, and nothing else available on the menu we would've wanted anyway. The manager walked off without offering to make it right in any way. We were charged full price, no apologies. With the mandatory 20% tip, we paid $140 for the worst meal I've had in a long time. Screw this place. read more

Today we had an opportunity to eat for the first and last time at Fuego. Listen the views are simply beautiful. The location is ideal for a cute date. It's just the food doesn't taste good at all! Very disappointed in the crab cake and me and my husband ate crab cake connoisseurs. We love crab cakes and get them anytime we see them on any dinner menus. These were the worst. We took two bits and told the waiter these are horrible and over cooked-disappointing as I wanted to like them. We ordered skirt steak, tacos, and chicken tacos. The tacos had no flavor and the skirt steak taco had a long black piece of hair in it at that point we were done... This restaurant is located inside the Maya Hotel, and the environment is truly beautiful--right by the ocean, with a refreshing sea breeze that makes the experience quite pleasant. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. The steak was not medium as requested; it was completely well done. The iced water had a tap water aftertaste. The scrambled eggs were completely bland, and the little salt and pepper bottles were so poorly designed that it was a struggle to get anything out of them. The crab cake tasted like it was made from leftover canned crab, overcooked in very old oil. The fish tacos and steak tacos both had an indescribably odd flavor--honestly, even a street vendor would've done a better job. Since it was brunch, there were no fries or similar sides, but what really stood out was the lack of culinary skill and any sense of quality control from the kitchen. That much is certain. Fuego is a restaurant inside Hotel Maya. We weren't staying at the hotel but went to eat there based on a recommendation. It was a Sunday, so we were there for brunch. It was another beautiful California day and the view from the outside seating was nice (see pic). The Queen Mary is also visible, but forgot to take a picture; be warmed, the boat horn blows at noon. I ordered the french toast, it was meh. My wife and friend ordered tacos which they enjoyed. Overall it's a decent place to maybe hang out, but the food is nothing special for the price. The employees were pleasant enough, but seemed there were periods of waiting, like being told there was no creme brûlée 30 minutes after having ordered it. read more

Easily one of my favorite brunch spots! The pork belly tacos? To die for. Perfectly seasoned with generous portions-- they hit every time. We started with chips, guac, and salsa. While they could've used a pinch more salt, they were still a solid choice. My homegirl got the fish tacos and raved about them--not usually my go-to, but definitely a great option for seafood lovers. Now ... the drinks? strong is an understatement. We were shook--in the best way. The views? Absolutely stunning. They alone make the spot worth coming back to. And the service? Incredible. We were a large party and were forced to have a selective menu $75 per person is highway robbery for a garden salad, small portion chicken and a dessert absolutely terrible marking. Honestly the food was so mid and I get it it's a "luxury" hotel cause it's ran by Hilton. I'm not cheap but if I pay that much I expect high quality food. OK, so the ambience, the view, and the staff are all 10 out of 10 here. If you sit outside the views are absolutely phenomenal and you can see the huge ship which people come here to see I guess? Personally, I was very disappointed with the food and the drinks. The crab cake appetizer was actually very delicious and I enjoyed the sweet platanos, but the entrees were mediocre. I ordered the seafood enchiladas and it barely had any spice or flavor. My friend ordered steak and they seemed to like it, but didn't rave about it either. I would definitely bring a friend or family member here for the views if they wanted to go for appetizers / drinks only. I would possibly try other things on the menu as well. We came here to get our parking validated. They had a few unique things on the menu. The food and drinks were good and the service was very quick and friendly. There were nice views of the port. I'm sure most people come here if they're staying at the Maya hotel. The menu went along with that theme with Central American food. They had a pisco drink on the menu which isn't super popular and it was good! Called and made reservations to Fuego a week in advance and it was seamless. When we arrived the parking was a bit confusing but we managed. The resturant is inside the Maya Hotel and so naturally we didn't know which way to go but we figured it out. We walked up some stairs, were inside the resturant from there, greeted by a hostess once we got to the top of the stairs. We sat outside to the patio with a nice view of the water and Queen Mary. Our Server: Laura R was super friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable as we had some questions about the menu. We Ordered some Appetizers & Entrees to go around: - Fuego Guacamole & Fire Roasted Salsa with Tortilla Chips - Grilled Lamb Chops (I will say that the bed of peas were weird to pair with the lamb chops but the lamb chops were nice and tender) - Barbacoa Quesadilla - Caesar Salad - Pan-Seared Fillet Salmon - Flan - Caramelized Plantains with Chipotle Caramel Sauce & Whipped Cream [see photos with ratings] We had to fight to eat our food though because the flies were ruthless but Laura brought us some sort of fan that they give to help ward off the flies HOWEVER that really didn't help much the flies still came trying to dive into our food. It was wild! We received parking validation for $3 and to get out the lot was a hot mess. It was cars coming from 2 ways trying to get into one lane to get out... [OVERALL] The experience was decent! We loved our server Laura but they definitely need to make some changes like: have heat lamps to keep the flies away, have more dinner items on the menu, more directions when entering the parking lot, having maybe someone to direct where to go once inside the hotel so people know where the resturant is... This is by far one of the worst restaurants we have eaten in a while. Yes the view is great, but the food lacks flavor and is just outright bad. We ordered the poke nachos which had hardly any poke and stale chips. The steak was over cooked and had no flavor whatsoever so ever, the mash potatoes were just that mashed potatoes no salt no pepper no flavor. I asked for a side salad and was charged for a full salad. The drinks are terrible. A shot of makers runs almost $30. That's more than the price of a full bottle. To top things off the gratuity was included even on our table of 2. No one mentioned it. I guess we were supposed to read the fine print on the bottom of the menu. Parking is $45 if you don't get validated. Avoid this place because this wasn't worth almost $200 i don't care how great they think the view is. Tried to call the restaurant about 10 times only to get a full mailbox each time and a recording that says they're closed today. read more

Great location of waterfront from LB downtown (across the bridge). Went here with a coworker on a day off and we just sat outside and order a bottle of sparkling wine and fresh avocado salsa and crab cake and chill. Perfect place just to kick back with friends, coworkers or even family. The services can be hit or miss and I was lucky this time and he was very attentive and friendly (compared to the last time, she was not in the mood of serving people). The downside of this place: 1. the foods can be just so so, 2. the prices are definitely on the high side, parking can be a challenge sometime since it park of the hotel so a long walk is defi. part of it. They do have indoor and outdoor but highly recommended outdoor but if you didn't have reservation and/or request for it, you might be sitting inside looking out. Went here for the 2025 Valentines menu with a reservation at 8pm. We set our reservation weeks in advance and received no notice of a set menu, bumping our price from $50-60 pp to $100+ pp. We arrived 10 minutes early and were seated 20 minutes after our reservation. Course by course, this seemed like a nice meal! We were willing to pay the extra if the restaurant delivered on a lovely dinner. The opening dish was oysters on the half shell, served on an overwhelming bed of salt and pomegranate seeds. Mediocre, and tiny portions. Our next dish was the roasted carrots - some were roasted all the way through and others were undercooked. We also got the hamachi tiradito, and got 4 tiny slivers of fish with a MASSIVE bed of seaweed salad. The main dishes are where we bailed, I got the risotto and she got the lobster tagliatelle. My risotto was bland and undercooked (and had a topping of crunchy hazelnuts, which didn't blend well with the texture of undercooked rice), and her pasta was overly buttery and fishy. We decided to take the mains home, and that was the fastest service we received the whole time. The people on either side of us were also complaining, and both left early. We went to Mcdonald's after and were happier with the service and food we got there. For $319, we expected better. read more

Admittedly had low expectations of a restaurant I chose entirely due to its proximity to the Long Beach Cruise Terminal. But the patio was lovely, with plenty of shade to enjoy a cup of coffee and some breakfast. Coffee was solid, and refills were offered promptly which was nice. I ordered the chilaquiles with chorizo for my breakfast. I should know better by now- I have at least three other reviews where I've ordered chilaquiles at various places and they've been bizarrely disappointing. In one review, I described them as made by a chef who had never eaten them, only heard about them from an inarticulate friend. And again, the dish I was served was not chilaquiles- it was tostadas with scrambled eggs. BUT, in this case the eggs were fluffy, the corn tostadas crisp and fluffy, the chorizo low on grease and high on spice. So I can't help but give such a delicious concoction four stars, even if it wasn't the meal I expected. read more

Came here on Sunday for dinner for drinks and apps and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant was beautiful, the entrance was amazing; you wouldn't know that you were in California, you would think you're in Mexico. We were seated outside and it was a beautiful evening, the heat lamps were great, they kept us warm. Their fuego margarita is amazing. I had the strawberry one and my daughter and friend had the mango flavored. The apps were delicious, we had the Choriqueso, the crab cakes and the short rib quesadilla and they didn't disappoint and perfectly portioned for us to share. So when we sat down and saw the menu it was completely different and not at all what we wanted. But because it was 7:30pm we were hungry and decided to stay. Food: the calamari was good, solid 7/10. The esquites was straight up robbery. It was just loose corn in a small cast iron. That's it. Just trying to make money off of Hispanic culture. SMH. We ordered the Ahi Poke Nachos but our waiter never gave it to us. Which is crazy. We shared the steak, my fiance said the meat quality was nice but I found it to be a bit burnt. So it's a preference thing. Drinks: we got the mocktails. But one out of the two they have had 5% alcohol. Soooo that's not a mocktail. Service: bad. I see why they automatically do a 20% tip on the bill, because no way they would be given that willingly. This one server closed an umbrella and it had random leaves on it, they fell onto these two ladies at a table and when they told him, he didn't even care. Also had the pan seared salmon, DELICIOUS as well! The sauce that came with it was perfect as well as how the salmon was cooked. For dessert we chose to get the Mayan Legend which is kind of like a pizookie. The cookie was nice and warm and soft! Topped offf with ice cream it was perfect. I might have to say it's better than the pizookie's at BJ's restaurants!! Service : 5/10 the service is not that great here. They will greet you and welcome you. Get the starts going. But my boyfriend and I literally had to wait almost an hour to ORDER our main course... our waiter just kept passing us, didn't ask if we were ready to order or anything. We had to call her and let her know. An hour and a half / two hour dinner almost turned into 3, because of the service... the food does come out pretty quick. The food was decent. I had the street corn and the fish tacos. They used salmon for the fish tacos which was good but I was expecting a white fish. I think the seasoning could have been improved. They were also out of all the Sauvignon blanc wine, which was up to 4 of the short list they offered. The view was amazing of course but the service hindered the night. We saw our server at the beginning but had to flag him down to order more drinks and pay for the night. I know it was busy but still I didn't see him at all rounding on tables. We went there for the Sunday brunch. We sat outside in the patio. Gorgeous ocean views with a light sea breeze. There was a live Jazz band playing. This gave it a cruise ship vibe. They have an extensive mixed drink menu. We went with a bottle of prosciutto and a bottle of OJ for make your own mimosas. Wait staff was very accommodating. I ordered the eggs Benedict. Eggs on top of sweet potato cakes with shredded veggies and Benedict sauce on top. Delicious. Someone else in our group ordered the avocado toast with an egg. She said she really enjoyed it. There isn't that much of a selection but what they have is good literally everything that's on the menu. I had the ropa vieja beef dish and it was satisfactory according to the ambiance and price. The service was on point and they checked up on us enough. It was empty during our accountability meeting so we didn't experience the place in a busy setting.
