Fuego was a disaster from the moment we walked in. Despite arriving 30 minutes after opening, the staff was still scrambling to set up. We weren't seated right away because the server was running around trying to prep the restaurant--completely unprepared to handle guests. Once seated, the service didn't get any better. Our server repeatedly told us to "just wait" while he ran around trying to find supplies. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. The food? $30 per person for cold, bland breakfast that tasted like it came from a box. Nothing fresh, nothing flavorful--just a complete waste of money. Fuego is good but it leaves something to be desired. It's located at the Hotel Maya and situated right on the water with a gorgeous view. The view is the best part about it! They even have bar-style seating facing right out to the ocean. They will validate your hotel parking, making it $2. Service was ok, it started out good but dwindled throughout the meal. The Spicy Paloma was wonderful and very strong, I actually felt buzzed off one which is a major plus! The Calamari and Shrimp Ceviche was disgusting to the point where I considered sending it back. It had no flavor and the pieces of seafood were almost soggy and disintegrating. The Shrimp Adobo, jumbo gulf shrimp in an achiote butter sauce had fantastic flavor and I loved the jumbo size of the shrimp. The fact that it's served with brussels sprouts and crispy cauliflower made the delectable buttery sauce feel a little more guilt-free. Not a huge fan as the service wasn't great, drinks were pricey and it's in a hard to get to location. We entered the restaurant at around 930pm on a Thursday night (they close at 10pm) and it looked like they were cleaning up after a big party. No one greeted us so we asked someone if we could sit at the bar. He pointed to the bar so we went and sat down. It took a few min for us to be greeted after we sat at the bar. There were a few other patrons at the bar as well. We ordered a couple drinks and the bartender asked if we wanted them to go. We said no thanks, we will drink them at the bar. We got our margarita and tiki torch delivered a few min later, in plastic cups, for $17 per drink. Based on the underwhelming service, non friendly staff and pricey drinks, we won't be back. We went there on October 11 for an early dinner because we read about how good it was. Positives were, of course, the view. It's a great location to see the Long Beach skyline and harbor, though it's not a great location as fast as getting there easily. The food was good but it's wasn't special. I ordered some street tacos that weren't anything more than what I usually get at lunch at a local taqueria for $2/each, and these 3 tacos were $18 and weren't that special. We had a party of 5 adults and a child and the bill was almost $400. Granted most we had drinks, but probably $100 or it were drinks. There weren't many choices on the menu and what was there wasn't that exciting or different. Many of the items were not offered or out. Like I said, it tasted good but it wasn't special, and it sure didn't equate to the price. If we were going to pay that much for what was offered we'd expect at least extraordinary service and great environment but it was lacking. It seems we got stuck in a restaurant that was mediocre and had hotel pricing since the guests would few choices to dine in that area. We live in Long Beach and would probably not go there again nor suggest it. There are far better restaurants in the city that are worth what you pay. read more

I had the Ropa Viejo which was shredded beef on crispy tortillas (tostada style). Unfortunately I had a big piece of fat on my portion which was gross and the meat was salt less with little flavor. The guac was fresh, flavorful, the chips were perfect, crunchy, thin and not overly salty. It also came with salsa and it was spicy but enjoyable. Came for a friend's birthday as a party of 17. We had reservations @12:30. Firstly, here's the info: - They will validate for parking, and there's plenty. With validation you will be paying $3. - Everyone said their food was alright. - THE SUN, is so hot. I hope you don't get hit with it if you get seated outside, but if you are seated outside you get a decent view of Long Beach/Queen's Bay. There's also flies outside, but they do have fly swatter table fans. Bring/wear sunscreen incase. - Service is mixed. - Complementary chips and salsa. - There is live music outside (at least on Saturday ~12-3). Here's the experience we had: We were here for 3 hours. They initially seated us at a super sunny spot, literally half of us got sunburned. Thankfully, a large party table was freed next to us with more shade and they let us swap over. We also had some seating issues because of our large group, but we did make a reservation so they had a notice. The mixed service is what got me, I almost feel like they're playing good cop bad cop. Most servers were not having a good day, but not rude. Kayla was super helpful though and didn't make us feel bad for asking them to do their job. Thank you Kayla! Even then though, there were times where they had forgotten to bring us things. They brought out our friend's birthday dessert after our friend finished eating. It was nice! I agree with Robert. We waited almost 40 minutes past our reservation time. Got seated after because we had to ask as they forgot about us on the list. When we got seated, we waited to see how long it would take for the servers to come take our order. Well 25 minutes later that never happened so we got up and left. The couple next to us said they waited 40 minutes just to get an order started and then almost another 30 for the food. We took their advice and left now we are eating N and Out. On my out to the Cali Vibes Fest I stopped at Fuego for some seaside dining. I started with the Grilled Lamb Chops with Chimichurri, Jalapeño Pepper Escabeche, Spring Sweet Peas, Roasted Sweet Potato with Cotija Cheese. This appetizer was the best dish of the evening. The lamb was cooked perfectly, meaty, and full of flavor. I would hands down recommend starting with the lamb. The meal that followed wasn't as good. I had the Ropa Vieja, a Cuban Style Braised Short Rib over a Black Bean Purée on Crispy Corn Tortillas with Cabbage Escabeche, Caramelized Plantains, and Crema. The first thing I noticed was that my fried plantains were cold and the short rib was warm at best. I was very disappointed in the temperature of my meal. The flavors were there I guess, but the portion was so small. For $33 I expected more than a scoop of meat and a pile of cabbage. The meat to cabbage ratio was way off. My guest had the Pan-Roasted Chilean Seabass with Fried Sage Brown-Butter, Blistered Tomatoes, Mashed Acorn Squash, and Chanterelle Mushrooms. The fish was actually pretty good and piping hot. Maybe my dinner was left in the window waiting for the fish to be cooked fresh and that's why mine was cold. While the fish was good, again, it was a really small portion for the cost. To keep from going to the concert still hungry, my guest and I ordered the Shaved Street Corn with Garlic Aioli, Queso Fresco, and Tajín. The street corn was better than both our dinners. The food is decent. When you come here, keep in mind that you're going for the water front views and atmosphere and you'll be okay. read more
