Tres leches cake
Kate K.

Great place to celebrate a special occasion! I went for a birthday dinner and they took great care of me. They got in touch before the dinner to ask the name of the person celebrating and then printed a personalized menu with a happy birthday message on it. Such a small but meaningful touch. I was dining during LB Food Scene Week and had the three course prix fixe menu. Everything was outstanding. The appetizer was a little hard to cut into bite sized pieces but was the perfect blend of fresh flavors to start off the meal. The chicken mole was richly flavorful and the meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. For dessert, they not only brought it the included dessert of churro bites, but also a special slice of tres leches cake for my birthday. That cake was delightful. Staff were incredibly nice and made the whole experience even better. It was pretty busy when I arrived, but had quieted down by around 8 pm. Between the food and the service I will definitely be back!

Went here for my birthday lunch and fell in love with the place the minute I walked in! Thanks to my good friend Mike for introducing me to this amazing restaurant! They are so thoughtful that my name was on the menu! I kept a copy of course! The food was delicious. We went there for social hour and sat out in the patio. We ordered from the happy hour menu and also had some delicious drinks! The Paloma Blanca was good and The Sunday Service was by far my favorite. Both tequila cocktails. The service was incredible! They also gave me a complimentary dessert and it was a tres leches cake! My favorite! The presentation of everything was so beautiful as well, tasted as good as it looked! We had pulpo, ceviche, chips and guacamole, shrimp tacos, and arrachera tacos. Our waiter was named Zachary and he gave us excellent customer service. I can't wait to go back!

Excellent service. I kept bothering the manager as he was manning the front desk near my table whenever I needed something and couldn't find my Waiter. My Waiter was knowledgeable of the menu. I'm impressed. Pacing is slower here like any other fine restaurants. We sat straddling the patio and indoor dining area and lighting was dim inside. It's very romantic and chic if you want to impress your date. Our red snapper ceviche was fresh! You're supposed to stir everything before digging in. I was not aware of this until our Waiter instructed us to do so so, thank you for letting us know! I was not a fan of the Camarones appetizer. I don't know if maybe I don't have an acquired taste for the adobo seasoning... It stunk of fish sauce as soon as our Waiter set it down and tasted mediocre to me... My fish was AMAZING! My leftovers tasted even better the next day when I wasn't so full off the appetizer! Victoria beer came out delicious until I squeezed a lime wedge (for whatever reason it turned the beer bitter instead of crisp ‍). I was not a fan of the Horchata either. They used artificial cinnamon syrup instead of real cinnamon and I hate the flavor of artificial cinnamon! Thank you for the complimentary tres leches cake even though it was not my birthday. I had informed our Waiter that it was my birthday month and if that counted when he had asked if we were celebrating any occasion. I appreciate your team going above! Thank you all for a nice evening. I definitely will return to try other items.

From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and reminiscent of Tulum. The space felt thoughtfully designed and created a great setting for the evening. The service was friendly and attentive, although it was a little slower than expected. We started with cocktails. I ordered the Pocho, made with Amaras Verde Mezcal, Bourbon, pina, guanábana, lime. The drink was enjoyable and unique, with tropical flavors that worked well together, although it was not quite as balanced as I expected. My fiancée ordered the Paloma Blanca, and it was excellent, awell-crafted cocktail. One of the highlights of the meal was the Tacos Dorados. With crema, and avocado emulsion was absolutely delicious. The flavors immediately reminded me of the potato tacos my mom used to make when I was growing up. The mushrooms added a rich depth of flavor. We also ordered the Arrachera, a 10-ounce Black Angus skirt steak served Anaheim pepper hand-pressed heirloom blue corn tortillas. The steak was flavorful and well seasoned, although it was slightly more underdone. Overall, the food was very good, and the atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. While the pricing felt a little high for some of the portions, the quality of the ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and memorable flavors made it a restaurant we would gladly return to. The Tacos Dorados alone are worth coming back for and also to try all other dishes like the pulpo.

What an amazing place to enjoy a beautifully prepared meal. From arrival to departure, it was such an enjoyable experience. The staff works together to make sure you are enjoying your visit. Out server was hands down the best. She helped us pair our drink with our order, made excellent recommendation and was genuinely pleasant. The guacamole was soooo good no extra seasoning was needed. The steak dish came with homemade blue tortillas, the chicken mole was also phenomenal and the rice! Perfect. The is elegance done right. Well worth the price. The quality and service unmatched.

My husband and I are regulars here. They have a comfortable patio and chill vibes at the bar and main dining. It can be a romantic date spot or casual drinks and snacks. I'm always surprised when they're empty; the food is so good! Fresh, high quality and delicious. And the cocktails are some of the best in Long Beach. On top of that, they have a unique selection of tequilas and mezcals. Super underrated spot. Service is always pretty good to great! We usually get some excellent servers. Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations. Definitely must try the ribeye taco, sopes and octopus if you want something smaller. The ribeye steak, whole fish or leg of lamb are also outstanding. Some items come with their homemade, blue corn tortillas. So yummy. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend! Parking can be a challenge, as is normal in the area. Don't let that discourage you!

The Pollito con Mole Oaxaqueño, with roasted chicken, black mole, rice, and plantains, was delicious.

We celebrated my girlfriend's birthday at Viaje, and I couldn't have been happier with how the evening turned out. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and seated in a comfortable booth with a great vibe. Our server, Veronica, provided exceptional service and made sure everything felt effortless and special. The food was outstanding we had the Pollito con Mole Oaxaqueño and Salmon al Pastor, and both were beautifully presented and full of flavor. To top off a great meal, the team surprised us with a thoughtful birthday dessert. The cake was absolutely delicious and the perfect ending to her night. It's those extra touches and genuine hospitality that really make a place stand out. Thank you to Veronica and the entire Viaje team for making our evening so memorable. We'll definitely be back!

We tried out this place for the first time. Found a parking pretty easy after 6pm it's free . We were a walk in no reservations needed on Thursday bar top was open and it's my favorite place to be. It's where all the action of the restaurant is in my opinion. Very well decorated nice and warm atmosphere cool ambiance and great and friendly staff. The chips and salsa is where it started and is very good chips taste homemade and salsa is very tasty. We tried the different tacos they have, they were all good but I think the Ribeye taco is hands down my favorite. With the rice n Beans, black beans like no other very flavorful and the rice is not your Mexican rice your used to. It's white rice with butter and it hits the spot right on. Drinks are great as well . I will be back Cheers

Pollito con Mole Oaxaqueño 10/10 (nice, big portions too and incredible flavor. You can tell this mole is homemade)

I still love this place. Even though I no longer live in the area, I still make it a habit to come here at least once a month. I usually order the flautas as an appetizer (when you finish: keep the sauce, trust me) and I get the arrachera as my main entree. Grab yourself a tortilla and make a taco with the arrachera and pour some of the flautas' sauce... trust me 100/10!!

Pulpo (Octopus)
Tiffany P.

This is your sign to book that date night or celebration! From the second we walked in, the staff nailed that perfect balance of warm and attentive without hovering. Lucky bonus: both indoor and patio seating. We snagged a table right in the middle and got the best of both worlds - moody, cozy vibes with a touch of fresh air and natural light. The whole place felt polished, including the food: Flautas de Barbacoa: Crispy, golden, and packed with tender short rib. Drizzled with crema, queso cotija and an avocado emulsion. Paired with a rich, unapologetically beefy consomé for dipping. Every bite is layered, tasty, and fun to eat. Pulpo: Shockingly tender octopus, with smoky chile, creamy potato purée, bits of chorizo, and that same silky avocado emulsion tying it all together. Great balance of flavors and textures. Happy hour is a must. The Arrachera and Camarón Tacos were solid, but the Pork Belly Taco was my favorite. Refined, flavorful, and a good time. Would absolutely come back!

This place was amazing! I'm glad my friends and I decided to try it. The place had a really nice vibe. The service was great! We were seated right away. Our waiter immediately helped us with recommendations and I trusted him with those recommendation's. He was not wrong because the drinks and the food were soooo good! Definitely would come back!

Pepper stuffed with cheese. It didn't come with my entree but I thought it was unique so I ordered it on the side

Not much to say other than what's already been said. EVERYTHING is a GRAND SLAM HOMERUN! The ambiance, decor, service, cocktails, appetizers, and entrees were fabulous. It's high end Hispanic food and it's worth every penny and more. This spot is a MUST go to dining experience if you're in the LONG BEACH CA area!

Can we bring our own bottle of wine?

It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.

The experience was amazing. Speaking of Speakeasy! First, if you don't want to (most likely) get turned away, you will definitely need to make a reservation on OpenTable a few days before. Parking around the area was tough, but you may find a spot if you circle around the blocks. You will need to arrive early to look for parking. When you arrive, you will see the Mexican restaurant El Barrio Cantina. You will want to walk into the alley on the left, then you will see the door with a lantern on your left. Congrats, you have arrived! Knock on the door and tell them your reservation. The bar was popular. Their reservations were all full for the night. Their cocktails were amazing, creative, delicious, and Tokyo-inspired. I love their cool menu design. The bartender was friendly and made some nice recommendations. I had a Meguro River. It's creamy and pretty with floral decorations, served in a mini pot. The Okinawan Gimlet is in cool green. They even have alcoholic gummies and alcoholic shaved ice on menu. They do have a time limit of 1.5 hours seating. I can't wait to come back again.

We sat at the bar, and I expected to receive service from the bartender, but he didn't acknowledge us for the entire night. Instead, our server took our order. After a while, she informed us that the crispy rice we ordered was sold out. She mentioned that the bartender was supposed to let us know, but he never did. What made the experience more uncomfortable was that the bartender seemed to be giving most of his attention to the Caucasian customers on the other side of the bar. We were the only Asian customers there, and unfortunately, this left us feeling like we were being treated differently because of our race. The good food and drinks helped compensate for the poor service, so we decided not to let it ruin our evening. However, things got even more disappointing at the end. After I paid, I noticed that I had been charged for the crispy rice even though we never received it. When our server tried to address the issue, the bartender appeared to ignore both her and us, so we eventually left. I hope management sees this review and reaches out to me to address the overcharge and the overall experience. Overall, although the food and drinks were good, the service and the way we were treated left a very negative impression. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

The decor definitely reminded me of my grandparents' house in Taiwan, with vintage, ornate wooden chairs, dragon/lion statue carvings, and even a historic century old marital bed that had been repurposed into a booth. The drinks were also VERY unique, with my favorite being Hua sheng (literally meaning peanut), which was crafted from a nostalgic childhood peanut milk drink. All our cocktails were crafted very well, to the point where I thought they were a bit on the lighter side since I couldn't really taste the alcohol. This section does get really busy though and only had one bartender who is making/serving drinks and taking orders, so do expect a bit of a wait. I haven't been here often, but I *was* here right around when they opened, wherein I determined that the food ranged from quality but a bit overpriced, to just overpriced, a feeling I would still hold, generally speaking. Great vibe, solid service, but maybe a little pretentiously priced (and/or it's just stupid expensive to run a restaurant in this area, granted.) And with *super* pretentiously-priced cocktails, for how relatively simple they mostly are (if I'm gonna spend $18+ plus tip on a drink, I expect Baby Gee-level cocktails.) They also had an impressive wall of craft beer on tap, but also a bit pricey, especially compared to places not on 2nd street, so there was never a particular *draw*. But then I never actually finished reviewing it, because I'm super behind. Anyway, then also not particularly recently, they launched a happy hour, which at the time, especially for this particular part of Long Beach, was pretty stupidly good, with $5 decent sized smashburgers (6 with cheese, 10 with cheese and also fries), as well as $5 craft beer, pretty much all of them, including the fancy, exciting stuff (exciting if you're a nerd like me, the barrel aged stuff, for instance). They also had one specific half hour at the time, which I'd like to immortalize as a super fun idea, where one specific cheap but craft beer was some stupid price, I think like a dollar, but since they had a whole wall of rotating craft beer, a *different* specific cheap craft beer any given day. That's not relevant at all to my current review, but it was fun. Anyway, I still didn't write a review like a year ago when I took advantage of that happy hour, though I did take advantage of it a solid couple of times. Skip forward again to just a few weeks ago, I happened to be attending an event in the general area again, an event that was going to involve more alcohol than food and for which having a happy-hour-timed dinner in the area was going to be useful, so I figured I'd check out whether the happy hour was still there, and it was. At least as of a few weeks ago, the happy hour (3-6 weekdays) was still a thing, and it had gone up a whopping 55 cents per item. Ends up being effectively ~$17 plus tip for a quality smashburger, quality fries and a craft beer, though they didn't have as *many* of the fancy (barrel-aged or equivalent) stuff as they had the first time, they did still have some, and it was still $5.55 for any beer on draft they had. So happy hour wise, that's a pretty good price for this part of the country, I'd say. Obviously only since the burgers and fries *are* also absolutely quality burgers and fries. Not quite as wonderful as my gold standard smashburger at The Stache, perhaps, but still a great smashburger. My opinion on spending almost 20 bucks for what is effectively still just an old fashioned, hasn't changed, though. :p

(My server had disappeared). The food came out eventually, my drink was nearly empty again--no refill. The runner asked if I needed anything else after setting the food down and I again asked if I could grab a refill (the server still has not come back to the table). I looked around and he was chatting it up with a bartender leaning against the wall and giggling. Super annoying-- I'm glad the culture here means that the employees are friends and can talk and joke around. I don't need constant engagement, but you can't let drinks stay empty for lengthy periods of time. Half way done with the food, we still had empty drinks. Server never came back, runner never came back. Finished the food and sat for ten mins. Flagged down yet again another server and asked for the check. My server made his was over with the check--tips START at 25%, then 23%, then 20% Our lunch was about $70 (without the tip). This isn't McDonald's. The food was meh and the service was terrible. The cost did not make me feel like there was any value given the lack of attentiveness and quality of the meal.
