Went here for my birthday, my husband surprised me. Over all the food was amazing but downfall is that when we asked for mocktails we were told they don't do that "it's not that kind of bar." I am currently pregnant so all I can have are mocktails if I want to feel like I'm not just drinking water. The waitress stated that all they had were aguas Fresca, I had 1 Jamaica at $4 then the two others at $16 because they changed the glass it came in and added tajin. Amazing! I've been eyeing this restaurant since they opened, and my friends made a reservation here for my birthday on a weeknight. We were seated right away. Viaje was very welcoming, and they even printed the menus with 'Happy Birthday, Trami!!!'--love it. Their drink menu focuses heavily on mezcal and tequila, as it should. I got the only gin-based cocktail, the Condesa, which was refreshing and sweet. My partner and friends all ordered Viaje's twist on the Paloma and even got a second round. We didn't order any appetizers since we didn't want to be too full for later. For entrées, we had the branzino, skirt steak, salmon al pastor, and the short rib enchiladas. Everything was cooked perfectly, and we were all amazed at how delicious everything was. For dessert, we ordered the churros, and Viaje surprised me with a tres leches cake for my birthday! Omg, they're the best. I've never had the tres leches at Porto's, but my friends said Viaje's version is better and not overwhelmingly sweet. I highly recommend Viaje for authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is fantastic, and my family and I have added Viaje to our list of favorites. The food, cocktails, and staff are all wonderful, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Alethia always takes great care of us. We recently celebrated my aunt's birthday here--it was her first visit, and she absolutely loved it. We enjoy every dish we've tried. My personal favorite is the Salmon--it's phenomenal! Since we enjoy Al fresco dining, we ate on the patio facing 2nd St. Unfortunately the din of the passing traffic combined with the noisy spillover from a nearby sports bar did not enhance our experience. The service, however was polite and efficient. We shared the canerones diablos that had had good spicing and the Arachera, marinated skirt steak that has a touch of mole flavor. Beautiful restaurant! They did a great job with the interior design, and totally reminds me of the nice restaurants in CDMX. Every appetizer,mains, and dessert dishes were beautifully presented; and tasted delicious. The only thing we would recommend skipping is the churros - it was slightly grainy/dry. For dessert, I really recommend the tres leches cake or the corn cake. The corn cake was almost souffle-like - tasty! Also, the cocktails... They were sooooo well made. We came here for a dinner for my friend's birthday. The concierge texted me asking what my friend's name was. Resy on a Tuesday at 7:30pm, we got seated right away and to our surprise, the menu was printed with "Happy Birthday, Julie!", which I thought was such a thoughtful detail! Parking was easy at a small lot behind the restaurant. Our server was very friendly and checked up on us often. Drinks: I got the la catrina which was a mezcal drink, very nice and well balanced. My first time experience was ok. Not a big deal. We were there for a company happy hour and i really believe the employees were not ready to serve a size of 30 people. The food and drinks took way too long. The waiters were rude and impatient. There were flies everywhere? Honestly I would never go back or refer this place. I went here for an anniversary dinner and was pleasantly surprised. We got two drinks, an appetizer, two entrees, and a free celebratory dessert. I thought everything was very tasty, but I would've preferred my vegetables to have been steamed/boiled a little bit more before roasting because they were a little hard to bite. The portion sizes of the entrees were large! Had to take the food togo. Only two downsides in my opinion. First, was that it was LOUDDD. Not much can be done about that, but I did specifically ask to be seated somewhere quieter, yet we were still placed at an open table in the middle. Second, was that they spelled my name wrong on the menu! They spelled it Annie instead of Anne. I checked my partner's text, and confirmed that they spelled it correctly when giving it to the restaurant. I thought it was a little funny TBH, but I'm disappointed in the lack of quality control and worry that other people would find it less humorous ... My friend took me here for my birthday last Friday. It was our first time in this restaurant. I really liked the food and ambiance. Low lighting and good Spanish music is always a plus for me. We ordered the two potato tacos as an appetizer, and they tasted better than I expected. Then as a main entree, I had pollito con mole poblano, which was delish! We had an incredible experience here. We needed a last minute reservation for 16 on a Friday night so we scrambled and called a few restaurants, one of them being Viaje. They gladly accepted the reservation without any deposit or prefixed menu. The happy birthday menus were a nice touch too! The restaurant is located on 2nd street so the streets are busy and parking is tough. Viaje offers both indoor and outdoor seating. We had a long table in the back of the restaurant. The service was a bit slow but that is expected with a group of 16. Drinks and food: I got the pepino margarita with a tajin rim. It was very refreshing and made with high quality ingredients. The flautas are a must try! The short rib was juicy and packed with flavor and the bean dip adds a unique and delicious experience. The ceaser salad was surprisingly tasty. Came here for a work dinner event and we were given a simplified menu with fewer options to make group ordering easier. The tables were set up beautifully and this restaurant has a refreshing indoor/outdoor setting. Everyone was friendly and helpful and moved very efficiently considering we were a large group. We got to try several appetizers including the seafood empanadas, ceviche, and kale salad. We were also served chips with green and red salsa and refried black beans. All the apps were really good but I'd recommend the ceviche the most! The empanadas were very heavy and the shell is thick. The kale salad was a bit too salty for me. And while the beans were good with the chips, the salsas were both extremely spicy for everyone at our table. I got a grapefruit Paloma cocktail and the salmon entree. The cocktail was so crisp and refreshing! And the salmon was cooked to perfection and a huge portion. I do wish the plate had more veggies (just had 1 small carrot and 2 pieces of broccolini). For parking id recommend just paying for the closer metered parking as this area can be dangerous at night. Sonora style tacos; soft, delicious, warm, and freshly made. Perfect for the scallops and skirt steak. Note: Charging for tortillas is rather ridiculous; we were not informed that they were an extra charge and when we were done with our meal, but it seemed to have been forgotten in the take-out box - even more disappointing especially since we paid for it. - Arrachera I0 oz.: Black angus skirt steak, beans, onions, guacamole. $42. Ordered it medium rare and it was very good, especially with the tortillas. - La Condesa: $16. It was alright; they definitely made it strong. - Oaxacan Old Fashioned: $16. Loved this one so much, especially the cinnamon stick. The service was amazing, our server was so attentive and gracious, but not hovering in any way. Note: If you go to their website, the prices are NOT what I was actually charged - it's rather disappointing to see the discrepancy in pricing beause I look at menus online before going to a restaurant. Centrally located on 2nd Street in the Belmont Shores neighbourhood of Long Beach, with plenty of parking in the back. Street parking can be tight, given it's 2nd Street and it's primarily neighbourhood parking. You'll have to circle the block a few times and park by someone's home (unless you get lucky). After having this place bookmarked for a while, my boyfriend and I finally decided to visit on Valentine's Day. I will admit that Modern Mexican is not my favorite cuisine as most of my experiences are underwhelming. However, this place delivered both service and flavor. We started with the ceviche, which was so refreshing and flavorful I would come back for that alone. For entrees, I chose the salmon al pastor and my boyfriend chose the pescado con almejas which is a Chilean sea bass with clams. The flavors of the salmon blended so well and I was so glad it had pineapple to complement the al pastor flavor. I only had a bite of my boyfriend's plate, but he raved about the sea bass and the sauce it was plated with. Our drinks and dessert were just as tasty and our server, David, did a wonderful job of explaining the menu items to us. He made sure to check in with us frequently, even on such a busy night like Valentine's Day. I visited Viaje for a large birthday dinner and was absolutely blown away by the quality of food and service Service: Viaje did a phenomenal job helping coordinate reservations. We had a party of 20 and they were one of the few places that didn't require a private room/minimum spend limit. They did have a 20% pre-set tip for parties over 8. The only downside was they didn't allow split checks, which is understandable. They also added a very special touch of customizing the menu to include the birthday + name of the person being celebrated! Their staff was also very accommodating of changes to the party size, which was so appreciated. Our server was also very attentive especially with such a large party. Food: The food here was phenomenal! From the drinks to the entrees, everything was cooked exceptionally well, with high quality. Some of our favorite appetizers were the flautas de barbacoa, tacos dorados, and tostada de tuna! The entrees were also cooked well, I got the Barbacoa de Cordero and the meat literally fell off the bone, everyone else in the party was also very impressed by the quality! Pricing of the appetizers did fluctuate quite a bit and didn't always match serving size. It also does seem like the menu does slightly change over time, some of the menu items on reviews/pics were different from what we ordered. Another note is they don't make modifications for food/drinks so if you have any dietary restrictions, def check the menu ahead of time! Ambiance: The restaurant had great vibes/ambiance, a great place to celebrate any milestones or go for a good date night! Parking: Parking is typically tricky on 2nd Street but we lucked out with the lot behind the restaurant, it has some paid parking spots. Parking is free after 7pm and it worked out great for us! When I came here, I was interested in exploring their vegan food options and our server was superbly well-versed in how they could make their vegan menu. They had grilled vegetables (so colorful!), sopes, as well as vegan potato taco options that filled two hungry bellys. I left the restaurant feeling not only satiated, but like I went on a slight culinary dining experience. The highlight of the meal were the grilled vegetables, and the vegan sopes. The pictures will speak for themselves. While they didn't have any vegan desserts on the menu, they put together some fruit with a chocolate sauce and some nuts that was a perfect light dessert and ending to the meal.
