So I came back the next day an hour earlier and got lucky to order what I wanted: ribs, spicy collard greens, baked beans, and corn bread. Everything was absolutely amazing. The ribs were incredibly flavorful. They were tender, smoky, and the top almost tasted like candied meat in a way. Half a pound came out to be two ribs, and since I was so hungry I didn't know if that would be enough, but the ribs had more meat on them than past ribs I've tried. They were absolutely delicious! The spicy greens were fresh and flavorful, and I loved that it had meat in it. Very tender. The barbecue sauce was delicious. Delicious I got the jalapeño cheddar sausage. I'm not even a sausage person, but for some reason, the jalapeño part intrigued me. It was good. They cannot be serious... $30 for two pieces of meat and sample sides?! I ordered the "2 meat, 2 sides" combo for lunch and was genuinely shocked when I removed the foil. It came with exactly one rib and one slice of brisket. The sides? Sampler-sized; just like those tiny plastic cups you receive free samples in at Costco. It was truly disappointing. To be fair, the food itself was well-seasoned and good. But there's a huge difference between "tasty" and "worth $30," and this was absolutely not worth the price. The side portions were so small that they were actually sampler sized and we were still hungry afterwards. I felt genuinely bad because I recommended this place to my colleagues, sent them there, and even they were dissatisfied with the inflated and overpriced food rates. I love to support a small new emerging business, but not at the expense of being hustled. In today's economy, this kind of pricing is completely out of touch and obvious price - gouging. It comes across as taking advantage of customers and the new hype. We get it, everything is expensive nowadays and the economy has tanked, which is not this businesses fault, but this is excessive and overt. If anything, this lunch should be labeled a "sampler" and even then, it would still be immensely overpriced. What also made it worse is the presentation. The environmentalist in me could not understand why this tiny portion comes in a large aluminum tray covered with foil; which only highlights how little food you're actually getting. I scanned the platter looking for the rest of the food, because meal this is not. The container is excessive, wasteful, and honestly makes the portion size seem even more insulting. For the same price, you can enjoy a far more gratifying and hearty lunch at a high-end restaurant such as Morton's or Capital Grille. If this is their approach right after opening, it's hard to see how Brother's Keeper's pricing model is sustainable long-term. Bottom line: Good flavor, but completely unjustified cost. You should be full after eating a barbecue meal, especially if you're getting hustled. I won't be returning or sending any additional referrals. These poor portion sizes will not attract loyal customers such as myself. read more

This is a review of the Brisket Sandwich, I'll be back to try the BBQ another time. Think that is where I should have started with the BBQ because this sandwich was a miss. The bun is savory but need to stop the chopped brisket, Brisket gets dry when it is chopped and kept in a warmer. Also, its messy because meat falls out all over the place. I would have rather have them load up the Sandwich with freshly sliced brisket to avoid this condition. wow. can i just say it's the best barbecue i've had? i loved that the brisket wasn't overly salted. i loved the whole black pepper on the brisket too. we tried 2 sides and they were both tasty. spicy collard greens were actually spicy and it left you with a lasting kick in your mouth! oh my - the cornbread.. so good with the honey butter stuff and the texture is so perfect. very muffin like but also grainy. it had a great texture. can't wait to try more things on the menu! the chef, mo, also walked around to make sure his patrons were enjoying his food. just had great and kind character. makes the dining experience even more pleasant!! the place also has cleaned up nicely too. there's more barrier against the house that is behind it and it just looks aesthetically better. the seating area could use more shade (there are umbrellas but it's hard to avoid the sun - not a complaint tho! i can foresee it getting hot in the middle of summer) read more

Mmmmmmm! I don't eat barbecue that often but when I came across the page on Instagram, it looked so good and I always love to eat at these small local businesses. I just move back from the Bay Area to SoCal and I used to live in Long Beach very close to this restaurant, very cool neighborhood! The brisket was so tender, the ribs fell off the bone and to be honest I could eat like 10 corn muffins thank God we only got two they were so delicious! Everything was great. I can't wait to come back here and try some other items. I really wanted the collard greens but we got coleslaw instead, and it was also really good. It's a little bit of a wait obviously because it's so good so maybe get there a little bit earlier right when they open if possible but still wasn't too bad maybe about 25 minutes. They ran out of ribs and brisket so you need to get here as early as possible if you want all the items they have available. They have tables outside i believe 6, a water stand where you can get free water and a public bathroom which is cool! The ribs were my favorite. 2 pieces which was nice and flavorful. I tried Brother's Keeper BBQ years ago at Ten Mile Brewery and have been so happy to see the growth over the years. I loved learning through LongBeachize that they have a cute new space nestled in a neighborhood on 4th street. I've been trying to make my way over for a couple of weeks now and this morning I saw on IG that it was the owner Mo's birthday. This afternoon, as I was picking up baked goods for a friend, I decided to grab Mo a few b day desserts to wish him a happy birthday. :) I arrived to Brother's Keeper around 3:30pm knowing they usually sell out around 4-5pm. With my fingers crossed, I arrived and everything wasn't sold out, and there wasn't a long line! With gratitude, Mo accepted the pastries and we took a picture in front of his birthday balloons, which was really sweet. All of the staff were very kind and thoughtful. I love how they are maximizing use of the space. It is small, but functional and definitely stands out on the black. There's picnic tables for those that want to dine there with umbrellas for shade. Parking wasn't bad - it's not Retro Row busy on this side of 4th. I imagine weekends it might be a bit more of a challenge, but not bad. I had planned to order a bunch of items to try and share. They only had brisket left so I ordered the loaded fries with brisket, the greens, gouda Mac and cheese, and cornbread. They graciously added in baked beans and potato salad which was super kind. I'm a California girl with southern roots (Mississippi). We don't play about BBQ in my family, and we get serious about sides as well lol. I was as impressed as I was the first time I tried it. This man has won awards for this stuff for a reason folks. The loaded fries though? Something else! It's one of those dishes you didn't realize you needed until you tried it. The flavor combination is everything. My brother tried them and just nodded his head continuously as he chewed... LOL. We look forward to brining our parents to Brother's Keeper when they visit next. Finally there is something happening at the OG MVPs place (3701 East 4th street, Long Beach) . This coming up weekend they are having a pop up bbq (November 15-16,2025). The shop git a beautiful and needed makeover. Looking stylish and even having a restroom. The cool part is that they kept the original arrow sign, just painted it a bit. There is no parking lot, just street parking. Plenty of street parking around the corner, not so much on busy 4th street but the walk is not bad at all. We were greeted by Tonya, who was super friendly and welcoming -- great first impression. We got there around 3:45pm and they had already sold out of most of their meats (which tells you everything you need to know). The only options left were the spare ribs and sausage links -- and thankfully, they did not disappoint. The ribs were juicy, tender, and seasoned to perfection. The sausage was packed with flavor and paired perfectly with their house mustard sauce. Sides were on point too: * Baked beans -- sweet and savory with just the right hint of heat. * Gouda mac & cheese -- legit. Classic Long Beach kind of vibes. We got the BBQ sampler which included 4 meats & 4 sides added cornbread and a lemonade and sweet tea, $73 total. For BBQ I feel like everything was reasonably priced! First, I'd like to say that my grandfather was a southern black man and he threw down on some BBQ so my standards are rather high and I haven't been impressed by many Long Beach BBQ places yet unfortunately. Now that my qualifications for criticism on the matter is fact checked, let's get into the meats!!!! Pulled pork was so flavorful and moist no sauce was needed, can't wait to try the sandwich someday for lunch. Burnt ends were perfectly crunchy, saucy, sticky and the meat wasn't dried out at all. I truthfully hate sausage, but this sausage was very balanced in flavor and juicy as hell. The brisket was incredibly tender and fell apart in my mouth, perfect smoky flavor without being all consuming. Both BBQ sauces were great, but I preferred the Carolina sauce as the vinegary taste is one I prefer over the sweeter stuff. For sides we got yams, mac & cheese, collard greens, and potato salad. The yams were perfectly cooked, not mushy or too stiff and the perfect amount of brown sugary sweet. I could eat a whole tub of the Mac & cheese and I think the Gouda added a savoriness that balances the sweetness from some of the other items on the platter. Collard greens have a little Jalapeno kick and are incredibly good. Potato salad has a mustard flavor that compliments the rest of the meats as well. Cornbread was obviously delicious, and the lemonade and sweet tea were very refreshing! Have to say we are sad the ribs weren't available, but very glad to see this place busy. They go until they sell out so just be aware of that. So glad Long Beach has a solid BBQ place, we will be back for more! read more
