The vibe is gonna change depending on where they pop up, but I'm assuming it's usually large gatherings or at breweries. I got to catch them at Ten Mile Brewing so it was awesome that I was able to grab some beer to go along with my barbecue. I think they're primarily in the Long Beach area, but check their Instagram page to see where they will show up. I thought their sides were fantastic and the barbecued meats were amazing as well. Barbecue isn't cheap but I really feel like it's a great deal here because the portions are pretty darn large. Battambong BBQ is a perfect representation of Long Beach, which has one of the largest Cambodian communities in the United States. They have Texas style BBQ with subtle Cambodian Flavors. I went with a three-meat combo for $50, which was definitely filling for my wife and I (though we also had the meats with rice at home). Their brisket is a must have; however, we are also glad that we got their pork belly and baby back ribs in our combo. The smoke flavor was strong and assertive as it deeply permeated the meat. The flavor was so intense that I didn't even need sauce. The good news is that their BBQ sauce is pretty delicious. If you go with their Spicy sauce, it actually packs a punch. If you want something that's more representative of Cambodian flavor, go with their smoked sausage or with one of their sandwiches. I have been to Austin, Houston and have had many great BBQs there including Franklins. I must say, this place was disappointing. First, you can see from the photo I took the first thing you see is the slice of brisket which is like 80% fat. Bro, why even serve that to a customer that is paying premium for brisket? I wanted to love this place. Supporting the Asian community but this will be my first and last time. Got to their popup at Rice Strings at 1130am. 230pm finally got our food. We were 8th in line and they didn't have anymore of what we ordered but didn't bother to tell us (pork belly). Instead they just have it to us as is with just two types of meat versus 3 types that we ordered (brisket, pork rib, pork belly was not included). $50 plus tax for 3 pieces of pork ribs and two long briskets cut in half to make 4. They didn't even give us the option to pick another 3rd meat option for our combo.. Everything was cold when we got it, we ate it right there in the car. Noodles were dry, flavorless, just smoky. Briskets was dry without the sauce. Ribs were dry but good flavor. I wish, after waiting for them 3 hrs after supposedly opening that the food would at least be warm. Portions are incredibly small for what they post online and advertised all over social media. Never again. Other's that got their food was also complaining about the portion that the person helping them said that the 2 to 3 items would feed up to 4 people. As a slightly unexpected review for this page-I actually had my first Battambong experience at Coachella! They were a vendor in the food hall, and while I had thought I would be getting tacos, the moment I saw the words "ribs" on their menu I knew what my body which had already walked a mere 8 miles in the festival that day needed. The fam and I have been on a Texas BBQ lately so we had to hit up the Cambodian Cowboy! We caught up with him at Ten Mile Brewing on Father's Day and it was the PERFECT lunch. While I stood in line for food, my wife got beers for the fam. We ordered a lot of food - brisket, pork belly, Tri tip and sausage. All this came with sides of garlic noodles, a version of elote corn, Mac n cheese, and pickles and peppers. Everything was BOMB! The proteins were perfectly smoked. For instance, the brisket had a great smoke ring, was juicy, and held the smoke really well. Tri tip had great smoke and was juicy. The sausage was great as he used a Cambodian sausage. However, the pork belly was NEXT LEVEL. That was the first thing to disappear! I also have to mention that the sides were all on point. Just as much attention to detail was paid to each dish as well as the overall presentation. Paired with a couple of beers and it was the perfect Father's Day lunch. I have been craving for good BBQ. We stopped by a a local farmers market, and found this Texas Cambodian BBQ. The amazing aroma was irresistible. I ordered the brisket, pork belly, and pulled pork. This is one of the best BBQ I have ever had in Southern California! The meat was very tender, juicy, and flavorful. The pork belly was crispy on the outside, and it was not oily! It came with garlic noodles, sweet corn, and coleslaw. The garlic noodle was a little dry, but not a deal breaker. The sweet corn was tasty. I went to a pop up in Cerritos Rice String Noodle restaurant last December, but the line was just too long, so I didn't get to taste what all the hype was about. I saw he was doing a pop up in an event not too far from my home, so I took the chance of going...and now I see what the hype was about! I was really excited to try Cambodian bbq at Smorgasburg from watching all the tiktoks, but unfortunately I was disappointed. The cashier and workers were super friendly and gave me extra banana peppers and pickles. My friends and I got the 3 meat platter including smoked brisket, smoked tri-tip, and twako (Cambodian sausage) for $40. Tri-tip was so dry that I literally could not swallow. There was absolutely no fat on it as you can tell from my picture. The sausage was pretty good, very flavorful but the casing was a tad chewy. The brisket was the saving grace for sure, very juicy and tender. Definitely one of the better briskets I've had! To be honest, the sides were mediocre. Corn looks and was very plain, pickled veggies were refreshing, and garlic noodles were super garlicky but a little dry (lacking slurp-ability). The classic barbecue sauce was delish, and the spicy one was actually spicy! Overall, I had an OK experience. I would go again to try the spare ribs and get the brisket again. The brisket and sauce deserves a 5, but the tri-tip was so tough and deserves a 1... When I heard about Chef Chad and Battambong BBQ, I knew I had to try it before leaving SoCal. We caught Battambong on a Saturday at Trademark Brewing. We got there a little before his opening time (12pm) because I was a afraid for a long line. Granted there was a line after us, the team didn't finish setting up until 12:30pm ish. My partner and I got two 2-item combos - which I think is the best way to try everything. I love that with each combo, you get garlic noodles, cucumber slaw and some corn kernels. I wish the garlic noodles were a little more garlicky, but it paired well with the meat. The cucumber slaw was refreshing and had a nice crunch which the corn was mixed with coconut milk which added a nice sweet factor. The best way to know their schedule is to follow them on Instagram. My visit was impromptu after learning about a pop-up at Trademark Brewery. However, they have a reoccurring schedule at Ten Miles Brewery and Bixby Knolls Farmers Market. What we ordered: (2) THREE-ITEM COMBO (Each combo comes with the following sides: Garlic Noodles, Creamed Corn, and Pickled Vegetable). Ordering two combo meals allowed me to try six of their seven meat selections. The only item that I didn't try was their Chicken. Garlic Noodles and Creamed Corn were delicious, and I would take a second. The Pickled Vegetable was a challenge to finish. The initial bite was tolerable; however, I started to have an after-taste of the fish sauce. The following rank is my opinion of the meat I liked best: 1. Tri-Tip 2. Pork Belly 3. Shredded Pork 4. Cambodian Sausage 5. Brisket 6. Pork Ribs - The Tri-Tip was tender and melted in my mouth. However, I cannot say the same for the Brisket because it was overly dry. The Pork Belly and the Cambodian Sausage are both marinated (Cambodian style), giving a red finish. Both were good and something different from a typical American BBQ. This Shredded Pork is also used in their Nachos. The meat was easily separated and easy to eat. The BBQ meat had a robust dry rub taste while honoring his heritage with the sides. Personally, the meat tasted better with the dipping sauce. I applaud the chef's creativity in fusing Texas BBQ and his Cambodian roots. The meat was juicy, tender, and flavorful and the portions were reasonable for the price. Today at Ten Mile Brewing my order was $50 before tip for the 2 meat combo. I waited in line (in the sun) for about 15 minutes before my order was taken since there was only one person working getting the previous orders ready. It would have been nice to have my order taken so I can go sit and enjoy my beer (which would have taken less than a minute) instead of have me wait so long to place my order and have my beer get warm. Once I placed my order and waited another 10-15 minutes for it to be ready, I went to pick up my tray and they forgot to give me one of the proteins I chose, which was given to me once they realized they forgot to put it on my tray. The portions were small considering the price, and the brisket was some of the driest and toughest I've had. I had to douse every bite in their barbecue sauce so it was edible. The garlic noodles were either old or undercooked because a good portion of them were stale and hard to chew. It's a very interesting take on a traditional Cambodian dish, Kau Sach Chrouk, which is a pork belly braised in a sugary suace. I could taste some familiar flavors, but smoking it elevated it to the next level. I also really enjoyed the side dishes the the meal came with, especially the buttered corn. If I had to add a piece of constructive criticism, it would be to add some more spices/flavor to the noodles. The portions were excellent, they gave me plenty of meat.
