    Oxtail plate

4/23/25 I ordered oxtail picture says everything.. I was very dissatisfied with my experience. The oxtails were overcooked, crunchy and unappetizing, while the cornbread was burnt and inedible. Let's talk about the yams overcooked as well Given the high prices, I expected much better quality. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

First time trying this place! Great food and wonderful experience. Tried the smothered chicken with red beans and Mac. Worth it!

Fried chicken, candied yams, rice with gravy, and corn bread.

One place says Norse way, another says Alondra. One listing says open today 2-7, another says it's closed 2 more days. "Hotline" says it's open 24/7, but there's no answer. Where is it? What are the hours? How do we order?

The grits were good, lacked a bit of seasoning. Nothing a little salt and pepper didn't fix. Can't go wrong with a mimosa. I also asked for water, it tasted a little odd. Service was friendly, it such a cute little restaurant. I sat inside but the outside patio area is great addition to a small space. I'll see definitely be back to try something else.

Cornbread - looks like a muffin and was ok. I prefer mine to be softer and the "muffin" type made it harder because edge all the way around. Butter was delicious and wish I had more. Disappointed as I waited for my order and saw everyone dining in got cornbread free. Why not all orders? Everyone is paying the same price. 2. Fried chicken - had more of a cornmeal coating which kinda fell off leaving a weird grayish/brown skin. Chicken was moist and tasted good but not best fried chicken I've had. 3. Collard greens - best of what I ordered. Delicious but had a little kick. It was fine for me but others might not expect that. Would I go back? Perhaps if I was in the area like I was today. But most likely I'd like to try other soul food places first.

Food was expensive and overpriced. The staff was cleaning the restaurant floor around us, (…read moresweeping and mopping the floor....) The restaurant was not due to close for another hour and a half. The food was good.

It's the "HistoriONICS" of it all!…read more "The suffix "-onics" isn't a standard English suffix but often appears as a blend or extension of "-ic" (meaning "pertaining to") with an "n" interfix, forming terms related to systems, sciences, or specific fields like electronics, bionics, tectonics, or iconics, essentially meaning "the study/field of" or "relating to" specific concepts, often in plural or technical contexts." My mother and I have been passing by this place for years while going to our local Target to retrieve meds from the CVS inside. It's always a "We got to try them!" With a severe decrease of Soul Food spots in LBC, when we find one we are thankful. Thankful that we're still alive, sane, able to find the food that represents US. Erasure is real but we know we're a people that keep multiplying. Whether it's out of being too stubborn to give up or the enjoyment of pissing people off, we can't be stopped. You will wait. We walked in and a beautiful seasoned lady, someone's momma, auntie, and/or nana was quietly looking on her cell phone and then looked up at us and greeted us with such a beautiful smile! I was immediately made whole as the love in her smile put the grief I walk around with daily for my own nana, grandmother, and Godmother went null and void, filling me up with a rush of all their love pour over me. We're all family and if you're open, still, and quiet you'll see all of us in each other. Were look at the menu and the selection of food was wide and I wanted everything! But mindful of my pocketbook and the moderate prices, we chose the greats! Chicken wing dings, additional sides of yams, green beans, a slice of chocolate cake and lemon cake. Because more memories continued to flood my mind we chose some "mini dinners" as well. The ambiance was of those after church days and ya mom decides "let's eat here" and as soon as you see the mural of the spread of Soul Food on the wall you immediately ecstatically answer "OHH YES!" Mother said chose the oxtail dinner with greens and I got the smother pork chop plate with mac and cheese. I of course have my mother the "you know we sharing, right?" She reluctantly agreed and we giggled. At the time we were the only customers so waiting was alright with us because NOTHING GOOD COMES QUICK. That is thing about GOOD soul food. You will wait and you should WANT to wait. The love, passion, and blessings pour into the handling the food to HEAL you is not meant to be RUSHED. Having everything you want right now is NOT what you NEED. And the Mama, Auntie, and/or Nana already knows this about you, and gots exactly what you need for your soul. When our food was so securely wrapped for the drive home and given to us, the family member who brought it to us apologized for the wait but we emphatically said "Not a problem at all!" We knew it was going to be good and didn't want the impression of impatience leaving a disgruntled stench in the air. We were blessed by the experience and couldn't WAIT to get home and be healed. That's exactly what happened. The good healed my soul and my mother's soul was healed too. All the memories, stories of missing family members, and road trips, and church jokes, and grannies cussing, and the deep-dive into the "Histrionics" of it all rained down on us and we we're GOOD. The evening, sleeping that night, and waking up this morning feeling so blessed has made me whole and I am thankful for US. The food was so good I would consider "slapping my mama" but I've made it 45 years on this earth without truly losing my mind. But the thought is fleeting and still wouldn't be sufficient enough reaction to how good the service, storefront modesty, and delicious joy the food gave me. I'm a big FAN! FOR REAL. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

Fried Chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. 2. Meatloaf with rice and gravy and cabbage. 3. Fried chicken dinner with greens, macaroni and cheese, and dressing with gravy. A guy at a nearby table mentioned that the chicken was overcooked but we requested a light fry and really enjoyed the chicken. The green beans were seasoned perfectly with sliced carrots and onions. The only two issues were the cabbage wasn't seasoned well and needed to be cooked longer. Also the cornbread was not sweet and was reheated in a microwave. Overall all of us enjoyed our meal! Plus the strawberry lemonade was delicious and not too sweet. If back in Cali, I'll be back!

Let's start at arrival. The order window had two people ahead of me. The first person ordered and…read morestood there for 10 minutes while the one person taking orders disappeared. Then finally came the next people, whose order took an exorbitant amount of time as well. I took note of the growing line behind me but figured it's a popular place and this is how it usually works here. I ordered the short rib lunch with collard greens and black eyed peas, with sweet potatoes as an extra side. The lady charged me for a dinner (bigger portions and more expensive), which I realized when I got my meal and looked at my credit card statement. I waited for 15 minutes at the pick up window before asking about my meal, and the guy said it's being packed up. Another 10 minutes, and the people behind me are picking up their meals and are noticing I haven't gotten mine yet. One of them says something. They say it's coming. After another 10 minutes I finally get my food, in a paper bag that is already soaked in grease to the point of it falling apart by the time I get to my car. There's something on their window saying they can't use plastic bags because of some law. I go to a liquor store and buy some plastic bags so this grease doesn't get all over my car. I look in the bag, everything is leaking all over everything, and the 2 cornbreads that come with the meal are nowhere to be seen. I drive BACK to the place, wait 5 minutes for someone to show up at the back window, and ask for the cornbread that was supposed to come with my meal. This is now going on an hour from the time I placed my order. They finally get them to me. I drive to my destination, and begin eating. Black eyed peas are delicious. Collard greens are delicious. Cornbread is wonderful, but really greasy. I dig into the short rib - which by the way I paid $30 for. It's literally 80% gristle and fat. There is almost no meat. I'm trying to find the little tiny bits of meat in the generous portion of meat and am coming up with basically fat. Most of it is getting spit out. I pays for meat, not fat. Lesson learned. I will come back but only for sides and if I'm adventurous I'll try the baked fish or something though that also scares me after this questionable experience. It's obvious they bought the cheapest meat they could, didn't trim it, charged a lot for it and sold it at a price that would warrant high quality meat. The flavor was great but I paid for meat, not throw away chewy gristle. Like I said, I will come back but will most likely order only sides, as they are really good.
