From the ambiance to the food, everything was amazing. Comparing to everything other soul food spot out there in today's time, this is the only place where you get your moneys worth. The music and the decoration definitely sets the vibe and tone of the shop. It makes it feel like they're going to cook with love. They let you sample up to three different items on the menu before actually purchasing. No company does that. Ive never been a fan of oxtails, but the owner (Rasheeda) suggested that I try one and ever since, I've been hooked on them. They're super tender and falls right off the bone! She also has BBQ on Friday's which I wish was sold everyday! Though it may be a limited menu to some because the soulfood sells out fast, they have different times where they restock their inventory. I suggest coming later in the day because there is usually a line a couple stores down around noon. Overall, I personally enjoyed the experience multiple times and it is to me, one of the best soulfood spots in SoCal. read more

I came when it first open for the day. I came for the ox tail and collard greens. Sadly, none were available. The place is clean. Limited dining space. Still very cute. I ordered the chicken platter with Mac and cheese and cabbage. The wait was pretty long. At least 30 minimum for the wait. So if you are thinking this a is a quick bite, think again. The food came out piping hot. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. I shared my food and the Mac and cheese was a huge hit. I would recommend this place. It is a bit pricer range. Rasheedah and her team are on to something here! Met her at the Yelp Sideline Social and have been back twice since then to try more items. The Mac... YES. Oxtails... OMG. These two alone will have me coming back. So far everything I've tried has been good. The location is always clean, inviting, and selfie worthy. The food wait time is reasonable for a soul food spot. The prices are also on par with a typical soul food spot. It gets busy if you go after work but it's worth it! Try it out and be ready to loosen your belt afterwards. read more

Yikes. Terrible business people. No idea if their food is any good because they totally blew it with this new customer. They are TOTALLY overwhelmed and not able to operate the business they are generating. So I ordered online, a day in advance, they took my money and I got a confirmation online. But when I came in on time to pick up my food they denied that they had been accepting ANY online orders, even though I had confirmation. THEN WHY NOT TURN OFF THE ONLINE ORDERING FORM OF YOUR WEBSITE? I drove a distance to get here, and was bitterly disappointed they were so messed up -- I had no dinner for my family, and they wouldn't even try to make the order right. But what made everything so much worse was the unpleasant attitude of the lady taking orders. She didn't apologize or sound at all concerned... She just blew me off. Very very rude, now I don't care how good their food is, they are an awful business. I don't see that other (unhappy 1-star) Yelpers are giving them high marks on the food anyway. I still have not received my refund for the order which they charged me for. Very disappointed in Throwdown. You really should do something to make this right. Sad. read more

I have tried this location twice and was disappointed. Dry ribs, side orders taste like they are reheated from a previous day. I tried the greens and they were over seasoned. 2nd visit I ordered the fired chicken dinner. It was only 5 fried buffalo wings and two sides with burnt corn bread ( that was cold for some reason) for 27 dollars. The restaurant was cute but extremely hot and the music was blaring. The lady who took our order was incredibly rude. Food took over 30 minutes to be ready. I watched many people come in and she was rude to them as well. The chicken was bland, no flavor, the rice was mushy, the Mac and cheese was OK (not bad but not amazing) the sweet potatoes were an ehhhhh. Definitely will not return to this place. I was so excited to finally come for some good soul food but from start to finish it wasn't worth it. 1. Customer service- the lady taking orders(could have been the owner) was impatient and pretty rude. She really shouldn't be the first person you interact with. The way she spoke to customers wasn't pleasant and welcoming. I sat and listened to her so it wasn't just us. She obviously has the wrong attitude to work with customers/public. She just didn't care. Bad for business. 2. The menu is so limited there really wasn't anything we could order except a side dish for $10 and it's was the smallest container (maybe 6 oz) more like a sample. They weren't taking orders for oxtails, the meatloaf is only served Wednesdays, ribs only on Fridays so the only other option was fried chicken wings. 3. There's literally only 5 tables to dine in. Sorry to write this review. But got there yesterday about 5:00pm and instead of her saying she was sold out of everything except party wings fried chicken. She let us stand in line just to tell us when we were ready to order. So still trying to support I ordered anyway. Also the only sides she had left were cabbage and mac and cheese. My cabbage was so salty I couldn't eat them and the chicken had no flavor. The Mac and cheese was ok. Please do better. If you run out of food please make sure what you do have is not the stuff that at the button of the pot. That is what the cabbage tastes like. read more

I took one bite of the Mac and cheese and it was so good, I set my timer for 4:30am just so I can wake up early and workout. Anything that good, has to immediately be shortening your lifespan.
