This place I found on Instagram, and for the first time it didn't let me down! Its a decent sized place on the corner of Wardlow and Los Alamitos, with a weird way of walking into the restaurant. Its very popular, and my wife and I went on a Thursday night with friends. Thankfully we had a reservation so i highly stress you make one or you will be waiting an hour at best. The restaurant is very old school looking. It reminds me of pizza joints in the 80's with those Tiffany lapshades that say Mooney's on each of them. Very cool to be taken back to the good old days. The help there is really great. We had a guy named Kyle looking after us and he filled in all the blanks that we had. My wife and I decided to keep the pizza small and try other items on the menu. One was the Buffalo wings that came in a set of eight and they were bigger than average. The Ranch dressing that came with them was good. The Caesar salad was really good too. Came in a small bowl, but there was enough for my wife and I to have enough of. Lots of cheese and the dressing was very tasteful. The pizza was the complete star of the night. We got a small pepperoni and mushroom and the crust was light but crunchy. The flavors were a beautiful symphony of the sauce, cheese, pepperoni, mushroom combined to a glorious eat. I was quite happy that they had oregano on hand, because having it on any pizza is a massive plus. The beer i wasnt too wild about. Their house lager tasted like a summer blend, which wasnt a bad thing, but it didnt come to comparison of just having a Coor's Light or Pabst Blue Ribbon. Either one of those with a slice of pizza, would have made it all phenomenal. They had plenty of choices of craft beer, but none of them spoke to me. We tried to find the pizza place near our home and my wife found a new Mooney's just opened 3 months ago. The location is so close next to our city, in the big strip mall. We waited for about 15 mins before 4 opening time. My wife got upset the door was still locked after 4. My wife went over the reviews on Yelp for 2 days and she knew what to order today. I got first 2 dark lagers from the bar, my wife ordered 3 different pizzas. One custom cheese w 2 toppings, mushrooms and pepperonis. Popular pizza called pineapple al pastor, and double pepperoni pizzas. One thing annoying from the beginning around our table was tiny gnat fly. This tiny bug never went away until we paid the bill. Really annoying. My wife hates the tiny flies, or other bugs when she eats the foods. And also, we didn't get any water served by server. I liked cheese pizza w 2 toppings but my wife doesn't like it. She said too salty. She passed the first pizza. Next pineapple al pastor was not bad, sliced onions pickles, cilantro, pork meats, etc....my wife said too sour.... I like a regular sliced onions, not the pickles. She said, it doesn't give the real taste due to the pickles. Well, 3rd one, double pepperoni pizza, I liked it but my wife didn't. I have been wanting to try this place, but it's always so packed and it was never a good time, but tonight was the night. The restaurant is large and has a decent size patio. Luckily the parking lot is large as well. We had the Caesar salad, warm olives, a small pepperoni pizza and a pineapple pizza. The salad and pepperoni pizzas were delicious. The pineapple pizza is an interesting combination that didn't really suit my taste buds. We also had custard for dessert. They had cheesecake and pistachio and we had one of each. Both of them were delicious. Still think about them. They also have a good selection of beverages. Only beer and wine. I had two different IPAs, one from a Lomita brewery. It was OK. I have been wanting to try Mooney's ever since they opened, and I finally got the chance! We started off with some BBQ wings which tasted good, but had to send off 2 times because they were ice cold in the middle. The last batch of wings was crispy, crunchy, with a really good sauce. The double pepperoni pizza was the star of the show. The crust was phenomenal with perfect texture and crunch. Top it with hot honey and it really hit the spot. For dessert I had the chocolate cherry(?) custard, which was really creamy and not too sweet. Service was fantastic as well, as our server was very attentive, friendly, and did not hesitate to get us new food when we had the problems with the wings. Went on Mother's Day around 11:30am. It wasn't too packed, and most people seemed to have reservations like we did, so everything ran pretty smoothly. We started with 2 orders of the squeakers (fried Wisconsin cheese curds) with marinara and their house hot honey sauce. Really good. Crispy, cheesy, and honestly it's pretty rare to find cheese curds in California so we had to get them. The hot honey sauce didn't really work with the curds for me, but it was way better on the pizza. For pizza, we got a large double pepperoni and a large fancy cheese. The fancy cheese was my favorite,, super saucy and really flavorful. The double pepperoni was a bit too salty for me on its own, but it actually paired really well with the hot honey sauce. Both pizzas had a thin, crispy crust. Since it was Mother's Day, they also gave us complimentary chocolate covered strawberries. We finished with frozen custard topped with Fruity Pebbles and it was delicious. Service was great the whole time. I was excited to see Mooney's Pizza open up in a previously vacant restaurant space, so we decided to check it out about a month or so after they opened. We went on a Tuesday evening and surprisingly, it was crowded on a weekday and they had a wait list. However, one downside, is that they don't take takeout orders or accept online pickup orders. We were not planning to dine in, so that was disappointing (I was hungry). It was late and I did not have another restaurant in mind for dinner. The host suggested we try the bar to see if they could accommodate us, so my boyfriend and I sat there and was helped by Peter. We explained that we weren't planning to stay but wanted to order a pizza and take it to go. Peter said that was fine and accommodated us. He let us know their main focus right now is dine-in service, but they expect to start offering takeout in the next couple of weeks. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and two drinks that Peter recommended, one was their homemade lemonade, and the other was a canned drink (I can't remember the name), but they were really good. As we waited, Peter was great. He was very friendly, sociable, engaging, and had side conversations with us while we waited. Took about 20 or so minutes and our order was ready. We took the pizza home and it was yummy in my tummy. Overall, pizza was good and we look forward to returning. I wanted to see what the local hype was and was able to make same day reservations at 8:00 pm on a Wednesday. Parking was easy since the place is in a shared shopping plaza. As soon as we came in, the place was pretty packed especially in the waiting area. We checked in and weren't seated until 15 mins after our reservation time. The seats still had some shredded cheese on them so we had to use our napkins to brush them off before we sat down. We already decided what to order while waiting to get seated but it still took about 10 mins until our server came and took our order. They did apologize for the wait but we did notice they were chatting it up with other customers. It's great to make conversation with people but not when other customers have been waiting for awhile. It took about 40 mins until our pizzas arrived. We ordered a small supreme pizza and a small pineapple specialty pizza. Both pizzas had a crispy crust which I liked, but the rest of the pizza bottom was just soggy and flimsy. The supreme tasted like any other combo pizza and was underwhelming. The pineapple pizza had pineapple sauce, al pastor, pickled onion, and cilantro lime salsa. It tasted like a carnitas taco but in pizza form and was flavorful and unique. The interior space is well decorated and there's an outdoor patio area with heat lamps. The noise level was quite loud with everyone talking and having a great time. Finally got to try this place and it was so worth it! My family got reservations; heard it's hard to get seated as a walk in so I recommend making reservations. I love the vintage vibe of the interior, I felt like I was on a movie set. They have a photobooth and it's so cute! I ordered the Sausage and Chard Pizza and everything about it was great! I am a fan!! We were able to get a reservation for an 8:30pm dinner and there were some empty tables nearby so not too crowded at this time. Our server was nice and was joking around with our group. There has been a lot of hype and excitement over the last few months about this place opening. Reservations were strongly recommended. I got a table for 3 a week and a half out. They really do fill up! When we arrived this past Sunday there was a sign that said no walk-ins available for that night. We got seated right away. We started with the Squeakers cheese curds served with homemade ranch = delicious! I can't think of any place around here that we can get cheese curds. When I visit my sister in Minnesota we always get them multiple times because they are so dang good and we love them. We decided on the Pineapple al Pastor pizza and the Pan Pepperoni. I will say; I am not a fan of pineapple on pizza (but the other two people with me were) nor do I like al pastor.... But WOW was this pizza scrumptious. I loved the fresh cilantro on it too. The crust was outstanding. The al pastor was not like the al pastor I was thinking of, which is the crumbled type in a taco. The pan pepperoni pizza was excellent. It had a thicker crust (being a pan pizza) and it was kind of doughy but not in a bad way. We had leftovers of this one that we reheated the next day in the air fryer and it was fantastic! I was too stuffed for dessert but the other 2 got something (but of course I had to taste it). Haha Vanilla custard with olive oil and salt I did not like. All I got was a huge bite of salt. Mooney Pizza Tavern is such a great family dinner spot. Even though it was their soft opening, everything felt polished like they've been doing this forever. We ordered the pineapple pizza (with the pickled onions and green sauce -- insane combo), a classic pepperoni, and the cheese custard fries. Everything hit. The crust had that perfect crisp on the outside but still soft inside, and the flavors were super balanced. The pineapple pie especially stood out -- sweet, savory, tangy, just done right. I grabbed the Tipopils from their bucket list beer selection, and that's where it gets cool -- they actually do a beer passport that they keep behind the bar. Every time you try one of their bucket list beers, they log it in. I had mine marked down (I think I was number nine). Such a dope touch that makes you want to keep coming back and working your way through the list. Service was great from start to finish -- friendly, attentive, and you could tell the staff genuinely cared, even during a soft opening. That kind of hospitality makes a big difference. They've also got a photobooth and a couple arcade games -- including Rampage, which is a straight classic. It gives the place that nostalgic tavern energy while still being super family-friendly. What makes it even better for me is my family lives down the street, so this is about to become our go-to for easy family nights. You can tell there's real passion behind this spot. From the minute we walked in, Brooke, the host, was lovely, pleasant and helpful! She kept the same composure for all patrons, even on a busy/packed Thursday night! My boys enjoyed the arcade games while we waited to be seated. The arcade games were appropriately themed and didn't rob the bank. It was a great way for them to pass the time and nostalgic to watch! Once we were seated we had the opportunity to take in the ambience which was an experience all in its own. Our server, Kenneth, graced our presence with his happy disposition and menu knowledge! Mooney's is the spot to be in Long Beach right now. We made a reservation three weeks in advance (thank goodness), because when we arrived they were fully booked for walk-ins and absolutely packed. Both the food and drink menus are solid, and I love the unique cider service offering. We ordered the pineapple specialty pizza and a wedge salad. The wedge was good but didn't totally wow me, next time I'll probably go for the Caesar. The pizza, though? Phenomenal. Truly no notes. We also tried ranch and hot honey on the side (not necessary, but fun to try). We were too full for dessert, but I already know I'm coming back for the custard, it looked incredible. My one gripe is the noise level. There's basically no sound buffering, so when it's full, it gets loud, like yelling-across-the-table loud. We built our own pizza, but next time, I definitely want to try one of the specialty pizzas. The Caesar salad was exceptional! If you're looking for delicious pizza, exceptional service, and a great vibe, look no further- Mooney's Pizza is the place to go! My fiancé and I had a reservation at 6:00 PM and were seated quite promptly despite arriving a few minutes early on a busy Friday night with the Dodger game going on. The ambience of the restaurant was lively and loud, but nothing that was too distracting nor disruptive. We were quickly greeted upon sitting at our table and within a couple of minutes, had ordered our food and drinks. We ordered the Warm Olives, Brussels Sprouts, Chicago Wedge, and Pineapple Pizza to eat and had two bucket list beers to drink. The Castelvetrano and Cerignola Olives were a delightful start to the meal as they were mild, buttery, and not overly briny. The Chicago Wedge had a nice balance of tomatoes, onion, and pancetta paired well with a rich yet subtle bleu cheese dressing. The Brussels Sprouts were nicely roasted and balanced with hot honey, toasted walnuts, and Parmesan cheese. While the Pineapple Pan pizza was not my favorite, I appreciated the creativity and flavor combinations of the pie. The dough itself was the star, however! I didn't expect this place to be so busy for a weeknight dinner, they've been open for 3 weeks and business is booming. They're only doing reservations right now, I feel like this should be mentioned on their website/Instagram because we didn't know until we arrived. The other options are to wait for bar seating (first come first serve) or join the waitlist for patio seating. I've noticed that a lot of guests end up leaving and weren't told this information. There wasn't any bar seating and we ended up waiting for 30-40 mins for patio seating. I like that their menu is simple and very straightforward. The pizza was good, but the crust was a little dense. I really like the Brussel sprouts, good acidity and sweetness to it. The soft serve is a good option for dessert. There's definitely lots of hype around this place. I think it's a solid 4 stars. We ordered a large pizza: half supreme and half cheese. I would have increased my rating to five stars if only the toppings and sauce were more evenly distributed. The supreme "half" of the pizza was more like 3 slices of supreme (see photo). Whoever threw the toppings on there clearly didn't care about even distribution of toppings. One slice had half of the amount of pepperoni that was in the entire pie. This resulted in the onions on that slice being uncooked and raw since it was covered in a pile of pepperoni. Also, our pizza only had sauce in the center half of the pizza. Maybe my standards are high, but I would like most of my bites to include 3 things: bread, cheese, and sauce. Some of the slices were literally half crust. Thankfully the dough was good, but I like most of my pizza to be pizza, not just bread. Notably, the table next to me had to have their pizza returned because it came without any sauce. Strange. The custard was great, the kids loved it. There was an impressive line at 6pm. Would highly recommend you make a reservation. I think we will give it a few more months before our return visit. Hopefully the pizza making is less sloppy by that time. The taste is there though. read more

I arrived with a reservation for 6:15 pm for a party of 4, with the hostess appearing eager to help and being very welcoming. Once seated we were greeted by the server who was friendly even with the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. We decided to keep things fairly simple and ordered a family size Caesar salad, large pepperoni pizza, Nebbiolo wine, prosecco, and custards for desert. The food was delicious and tasted fresh with quality ingredients. The only issue was too many lettuce rinds in the Caesar, although the dressing was very good. The pizza was tasty and the sauce really fresh. The custard was definitely homemade and has got me wanting to come back for more. The ambiance was lively and energetic and great for families. It was very nostalgic and reminiscent of the past. Mooneys is a place that I will definitely come back too. read more

Moony's was highly recommended by an acquaintance, so I had to give it a try. I was certainly not disappointed! Great place!!! The ambiance reminded me of an east coast neighborhood bar. A good crowd even on a Monday night. As for the food, generous is the main description. I ordered a house salad, which was great-- crisp salad greens topped with matchsticks of carrot and radish, heirloom cherry tomatoes, a generous portion of feta, and a perky vinaigrette. We ordered a cheese pizza with onions, olives and mushrooms. At first it looked like too much tomato sauce, but it was delicious! So I won't say it was too much; it was a generous amount. And the crust is the best I've had since my last trip to Italy. Overall, the pizza was great. Before becoming a pizza tavern, this was a custard shop, so we shared a custard for dessert. Of the two flavors available (pistachio and cheesecake), we ordered the pistachio. Again, a generous portion, made on the premises, flavored with a generous amount of pistachio that it fairly shouted PISTACHIO! and we were glad that it did. The service was great, we enjoyed talking to Pete (one of the proprietors) and hearing about the history of the place. As a pizza tavern, Moony's has only been open for 8 weeks, but what a happy crowd they draw! I think the neighborhood is happy to have this place. I'm sure happy to know about it! Oh, and it's got a photo booth, one of those claw toy dispensers, and I think some other stuff in the entrance but we didn't really check that part out. Overall: friendly atmosphere, great food, congenial and prompt service. This place needs to be on that silly little corner forever. In addition to the nice (generous!) bar and main room, there's another room, sort of a banquet room I guess, and a terrace on lovely Wardlow Avenue. Overall, I enjoyed myself, but I left scratching my head. I still don't quite understand the popularity. Noisy, electric, busy. Just what you want in a new popular restaurant. Since this place opened, it has always been packed, with people waiting outside. It's clearly a hot new spot, and I had to see what all the fuss was about. The brussels sprouts were delicious. Wonderfully created and wonderfully done nice and crispy, olive oil, pine nuts, garlic, wonderful. Cheese curds fried. I wasn't impressed. Why? Because the weren't really that flavorful to me, but my wife loved them. The pizza seems to be the star of the show. The toppings were fresh, and the thin crust was well done -- crispy and flavorful. The sauce, however, left me unimpressed. I also tried one of their custards -- a graham cracker variety. If you've ever had vanilla soft-serve ice cream, you already know what to expect. Nothing surprising, nothing remarkable. What truly stands out here is the wine and beer list. They clearly know their stuff, and the selection reflects some real expertise. That much I'll give them. Would I come back, maybe. It's a simple straightforward menu which is nice. I just wasn't super impressed. My wife enjoyed herself very much and she wants to come back, so, I suppose I will be coming back. read more
