We tried to find the pizza place near our home and my wife found a new Mooney's just opened 3 months ago. The location is so close next to our city, in the big strip mall. We waited for about 15 mins before 4 opening time. My wife got upset the door was still locked after 4. My wife went over the reviews on Yelp for 2 days and she knew what to order today. I got first 2 dark lagers from the bar, my wife ordered 3 different pizzas. One custom cheese w 2 toppings, mushrooms and pepperonis. Popular pizza called pineapple al pastor, and double pepperoni pizzas. One thing annoying from the beginning around our table was tiny gnat fly. This tiny bug never went away until we paid the bill. Really annoying. My wife hates the tiny flies, or other bugs when she eats the foods. And also, we didn't get any water served by server. I liked cheese pizza w 2 toppings but my wife doesn't like it. She said too salty. She passed the first pizza. Next pineapple al pastor was not bad, sliced onions pickles, cilantro, pork meats, etc....my wife said too sour.... I like a regular sliced onions, not the pickles. She said, it doesn't give the real taste due to the pickles. Well, 3rd one, double pepperoni pizza, I liked it but my wife didn't. Overall, we were so excited to find a new pizza place so close from our home but the taste was not really our styles we were looking for. My wife wanted to try their frozen custard as dessert but she was not happy about the pizzas. Hope the service is better for the future and less salty to make the marinara sauce will be better for the good health side. Pros Tap beers: great taste Location: easy to find, plenty of parking Cons Business hour: open at 4 Mon to Fri Service: not really welcoming vibes, Should be served iced water in the beggining. Quality: recommend the real italian taste, quality of pizzas like Spaghettini in Seal Beach.

I love Italian pizza w chewy crust and my fave pizza and pasta restaurant is Spaghettini SB. I passed Mooney's pizza a couple of times from the Y Lakewood on the way home. I bookmarked on Yelp and decided to go today. They open at 4 Mon to Fri except on weekend. Hard to wait for my late lunch or early dinner at 4. I got there 15 mins early and checked the area. This is located on the corner of big strip mall, where are Good Will, dollar tree, and grocery market, and etc. My first impression about the Mooney' was not good. I was waiting until 4:01, still closed. I tapped the door 3 times, then someone opened the door. They were not ready to welcome the customers after 4. When we sat the table, little tiny gnat flies around our table. Bothering me a lot. We got the dark Lager from the bar, the same tiny bug tried to sit in our beers. Very Annoying... I asked the server we want to move other table. Even thou we moved toward left side but that bug bothered us. And also, our table itself was so tiny for our pizza orders. I wanted to test and order at least 3 different pizzas, they barely fitted on our table. Not comfortable at all. Our server forgot to bring the iced water until I paid the bill. I didn't ask him at all. I didn't care. My hubby kept drinking the beers and I took my water from home just in case. Let's talk about the pizza. I went over the reviews on Yelp for 2 days and noticed the flavor and quality of pizzas here looked great. But it was not great taste for me as soon as I bit my first custom cheese, mushroom, pepperoni pizza. Way way too salty....OMG! What the hell? Seemed like they poured the sea salt by accident. And I tasted my curious pizza called pineapple al pastor, it gave me only sour taste due to the sliced onion pickles. For me, I love love sliced onions as pizza topping. But they were sour pickles. I have no idea why they put the onion pickles instead of raw sliced onions. Obviously I was skeptical for double pepperoni pizza. Same marinara sauce w lots of salt and tiny round pepperonis and little bigger flat pepperonis, that was all for this pizza. Why people said it was great? Wow! Wow! I wanted a new pizza place close from home to comfort me after work. Very dissapointed! Who commented the service was good? And the pineapple pizza tastes great???? To be honest, the 3 pizzas I ordered for the first time here were less than 3 stars. I don't want to recommend here. Only one thing I liked was draft beers, we got 2 dark lagers and 1 house lager. The location was so close from our home but the pizza was not met my expectation today.

I have been wanting to try this place, but it's always so packed and it was never a good time, but tonight was the night. The restaurant is large and has a decent size patio. Luckily the parking lot is large as well. We had the Caesar salad, warm olives, a small pepperoni pizza and a pineapple pizza. The salad and pepperoni pizzas were delicious. The pineapple pizza is an interesting combination that didn't really suit my taste buds. We also had custard for dessert. They had cheesecake and pistachio and we had one of each. Both of them were delicious. Still think about them. They also have a good selection of beverages. Only beer and wine. I had two different IPAs, one from a Lomita brewery. It was OK. The one from SLO was excellent. Kai was our server and he was awesome. I will definitely be back.

I have been wanting to try Mooney's ever since they opened, and I finally got the chance! We started off with some BBQ wings which tasted good, but had to send off 2 times because they were ice cold in the middle. The last batch of wings was crispy, crunchy, with a really good sauce. The double pepperoni pizza was the star of the show. The crust was phenomenal with perfect texture and crunch. Top it with hot honey and it really hit the spot. For dessert I had the chocolate cherry(?) custard, which was really creamy and not too sweet. Service was fantastic as well, as our server was very attentive, friendly, and did not hesitate to get us new food when we had the problems with the wings. While Mooney's has some minor growing pains, I definitely want to come back to try another pizza.

Went on Mother's Day around 11:30am. It wasn't too packed, and most people seemed to have reservations like we did, so everything ran pretty smoothly. We started with 2 orders of the squeakers (fried Wisconsin cheese curds) with marinara and their house hot honey sauce. Really good. Crispy, cheesy, and honestly it's pretty rare to find cheese curds in California so we had to get them. The hot honey sauce didn't really work with the curds for me, but it was way better on the pizza. For pizza, we got a large double pepperoni and a large fancy cheese. The fancy cheese was my favorite,, super saucy and really flavorful. The double pepperoni was a bit too salty for me on its own, but it actually paired really well with the hot honey sauce. Both pizzas had a thin, crispy crust. Since it was Mother's Day, they also gave us complimentary chocolate covered strawberries. We finished with frozen custard topped with Fruity Pebbles and it was delicious. Service was great the whole time. Everyone checked in on us and our server James was really kind and attentive.

We tried to get reservations but failed :) So we just walked in and got a great seat at the bar!!!! The have a fantastic beer & cider menu that rotates . The pizza is fantastic. It's decorated cute with outdoor seating, Tiffany lamps, a team room It can be pretty loud . They have a few tv's for sports on. Everyone raves about the custard but we found it a very sml about and not worth the price ... good but ......

I was excited to see Mooney's Pizza open up in a previously vacant restaurant space, so we decided to check it out about a month or so after they opened. We went on a Tuesday evening and surprisingly, it was crowded on a weekday and they had a wait list. However, one downside, is that they don't take takeout orders or accept online pickup orders. We were not planning to dine in, so that was disappointing (I was hungry). It was late and I did not have another restaurant in mind for dinner. The host suggested we try the bar to see if they could accommodate us, so my boyfriend and I sat there and was helped by Peter. We explained that we weren't planning to stay but wanted to order a pizza and take it to go. Peter said that was fine and accommodated us. He let us know their main focus right now is dine-in service, but they expect to start offering takeout in the next couple of weeks. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and two drinks that Peter recommended, one was their homemade lemonade, and the other was a canned drink (I can't remember the name), but they were really good. As we waited, Peter was great. He was very friendly, sociable, engaging, and had side conversations with us while we waited. Took about 20 or so minutes and our order was ready. We took the pizza home and it was yummy in my tummy. Overall, pizza was good and we look forward to returning. Either waiting till they offer take out service or when we are in the mood for dining in.

Loved this pizza place, such a nostalgic feel and throwback to what family pizza parlors used to be. They are super busy so make sure you make reservations. Service was great! We celebrated my son's birthday and he got a little birthday dessert on the house. We will definitely make this a regular spot for family dinners.

I wanted to see what the local hype was and was able to make same day reservations at 8:00 pm on a Wednesday. Parking was easy since the place is in a shared shopping plaza. As soon as we came in, the place was pretty packed especially in the waiting area. We checked in and weren't seated until 15 mins after our reservation time. The seats still had some shredded cheese on them so we had to use our napkins to brush them off before we sat down. We already decided what to order while waiting to get seated but it still took about 10 mins until our server came and took our order. They did apologize for the wait but we did notice they were chatting it up with other customers. It's great to make conversation with people but not when other customers have been waiting for awhile. It took about 40 mins until our pizzas arrived. We ordered a small supreme pizza and a small pineapple specialty pizza. Both pizzas had a crispy crust which I liked, but the rest of the pizza bottom was just soggy and flimsy. The supreme tasted like any other combo pizza and was underwhelming. The pineapple pizza had pineapple sauce, al pastor, pickled onion, and cilantro lime salsa. It tasted like a carnitas taco but in pizza form and was flavorful and unique. The interior space is well decorated and there's an outdoor patio area with heat lamps. The noise level was quite loud with everyone talking and having a great time. Could barely hear the music they were playing. Seems like a great spot for big groups but probably not for a first date. Glad I tried this place once but not sure I'd return.

Absolutely delicious! Jts been less than 24 hours and I'm still thinking about the pizza! I've been meaning to try this place out for a while but couldn't always find a convenient reservation. I got very lucky and we finally tried out Mooney's! Holy shiznit, it was such an experience going to a pizza tavern because it feels like our generation kinda lost this. The vibe was immaculate--family friendly neighborhood with phenomenal pizza, and dope service. We're super excited to return and try other pizzas here. And we gotta mention they sell cool merch there! Gotta grab some swag!

We've been looking for a pizza place and we found Mooney. We loved all the appetizers: squeakers, Brussels sprouts and meatballs! We had the double pepperoni. I actually came the a second time around for the pan pizza and loved it even better than the thin. Service is great and ambiance is what you expect pizza should be!

Finally got to try this place and it was so worth it! My family got reservations; heard it's hard to get seated as a walk in so I recommend making reservations. I love the vintage vibe of the interior, I felt like I was on a movie set. They have a photobooth and it's so cute! I ordered the Sausage and Chard Pizza and everything about it was great! It was so flavorful and the small size was plenty for 2 people. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and everyone loved it! Don't forget to order the dips! We tried the Mooneys Ranch and Hot Ranch. I ordered the Lavender Lemonade and I wouldn't recommend it. I will; however, try the lambrusco next time.

I am a fan!! We were able to get a reservation for an 8:30pm dinner and there were some empty tables nearby so not too crowded at this time. Our server was nice and was joking around with our group. We enjoyed our pitchers of beer, apps, pizza, and custard! We started with the Caesar salad (family size) and fried cheese curds with spicy ranch. I liked both of these, but I think the pizzas were better. We got the double pepperoni with ricotta, sausage and chard, and pineapple pizzas. The double pep was my favorite, have to add hot honey, too! Sausage and chard was my second favorite. The pineapple we wanted to try because it had al pastor on it. I liked the idea of it better than it tasted. I want to come back and try other pizzas. We also tried the custard for dessert with seal salt and olive oil. A little pricey but worth a try on your first visit!

Ask the Community - Mooney’s Pizza

Hi I am trying to place an order to pick up, can I email the order? The phone system is not available.

To the best of my knowledge, they are not taking take out orders yet. You could however sit at the bar, order, and tell them you would like your pizza to go.

    Do you have vegan cheese?

We do not. But we do have a delicious vegan tomato pie.

    Anything gluten free?

Yup! Gluten free pizzas along with GF apps, salads and desserts.

Is dining allowed in the outdoor patio if we have our dog?

Yep! We love furry friends on the patio.

    Do I need a reservation?

Yes and no. If you want to avoid a wait, then definitely. If you have time, grab a drink at the bar and wait for a seat.

Has anyone had the beer can chicken?

Thunderbolt Pizza in Long Beach has become my go-to pizzeria. After trying a wide range of their…read moremenu, two dishes stand out above the rest: the Pizza Margherita and the Garlic Knots. Pizza Margherita - 5/5. This is a perfect example of the care and craft that go into their food. The crust strikes a rare balance - it has that signature leopard-spotted char and slight floppiness you'd expect from a Neapolitan-style pizza, but also delivers the chewiness and airy structure of a great New York-style slice. It never tips too far into being overly crispy or dry. What really sets it apart, though, is the sauce. While many pizzerias treat sauce as an afterthought, Thunderbolt clearly does not. Their tomato sauce is rich, vibrant, and juicy, with a depth of flavor that avoids being overly acidic, salty, or tannic. It enhances the pizza beautifully without overshadowing the dough, which is exactly how it should be. Garlic Knots - 5/5. - Easily some of the best I've had anywhere in LA. These are essentially bread rolls with a super chewy interior and a thin, lightly crusty exterior, served alongside their excellent marinara sauce. They're incredibly satisfying and consistently a crowd favorite. I've brought visitors from Japan, Germany, and New York, and every single one of them couldn't stop talking about these knots. My only small critique is that I wish they had used fresh garlic instead of canned, which would have taken them to an even higher level. Still, even as they are, they're outstanding. Overall, Thunderbolt Pizza delivers thoughtful, high-quality food that stands out in a crowded pizza scene. It's the kind of place you keep coming back to--not just because it's good, but because it's consistently memorable.

Mid week when we arrived which wasn't too crazy. There was no one on the patio which was nice as it gave us first choice for a seat...lol... Everyone was seating inside. The place itself isn't that big. You have the bar area with some bar seating. Then there's a couple of tables inside and of course the patio which is along the sidewalk. Personally I prefer sitting outside for the people watching. The staff were all amazing and very friendly. Places like that make the experiences more enjoyable. You want someone who is friendly and respectful. As we were there early, we grabbed one of the beer which they have quite a good selection on tap. There's also wine if you're not into beer. When it came time to grab some food, we were able to get a table inside. Majority of the breweries tends to serve pretty much the same things, pizza sandwiches and salads. No complaints here. Simple food goes a long way. There were a couple of us so we grabbed a few things to share. Started off with the pretzel balls with cheese dip and honey mustard and the chips with queso cheese dip. Pretzel was tasty and outdid the queso dip. Pizzas of course which were pretty big in sizes. A couple of the pizzas and a salad did four of us with leftovers. Their Hawaiian pizza was quite tasty and was finished. We also ordered one of the mushroom pizzas with an egg. It was tasty but a little on the salty side. The arugula salad was delicious. Simple but tasty. And then there was ham pizza I believe with onions and peppercini. That was also a favorite of the night. Overall, the place was quite fun. Not a big brewery and more intimate. The crowd was great and as most places are very kid and family friendly. There was couple of kids when we arrived. Service was great. Food and drinks were enjoyed and the service and staff were excellent. Street parking available along the front but also along the neighborhood.

This is a great casual place to grab pizza and a beer. Not too much seating available, so might be…read moretough for larger groups at peak hours. Super chill vibe!

They are sliced thick, cooked to golden brown and always delicious. Enjoy the Potatoes with some ranch or ketchup and life is good. The pizza here is also made hot and ready to order and is high on the list for good pizza. This location along with the other location I have been to in El Monte are both pretty spacious where you can bring the family or friends and hangout. This location also has a full bar with bar top seating along with a big dinning area and out door seating as well. They have TVs for entertainment and Beer on Tap :) It's located in the heart of Long Beach off Pine Ave. I will say it's not the nicest neighborhood but it could be worse. You can definitely walk around before and after and grab a drink at a local bar or other restaurants but not much shopping or entertainment going on. Service is always good, the staff is always friendly and very helpful. Parking is rough since it's on a Main Street but there is some street parking along with parking structures around If you're in the area and craving pizza... this is the spot! SYoY, Enjoy.

Saw some solid reviews for this spot. Came in and ordered a medium pepperoni and sausage pizza…read more Also wanted to try their wings. The pizza had sesame on the dough end of it, never seen that. Anyway took a bite, mid, nothing you can't literally get at any spot around your house. The ingredients were pretty basic and they load it with cheese which is whatever but was honestly disappointed. The wings were also kinda fatty, not quality and mediocre. Overall a whatever spot, confused on the 4.5 they have. Maybe it's like a social spot people go to. Pizza: 6.7 Wings 6.3

It travels so well, the crust is still nice and crunchy when it gets home. These two are the family favorites - Double Trouble (basically a meatlovers pizza) and TJ Panther (a spin on a Hawaiian Pizza with Jalapeño and other chilies!). They also have a lunch soecial that includes a slice, salad (generous size), and soda!

We ordered a half and half pizza online for pickup and spent over $30 for pizza and a 4oz container of ranch. They told us it would be about 20min when we ordered so we got ready and left. We got there probably 15min after we ordered and grabbed two cokes while we waited. I tried to pay with cash and was told he might not have change to give me. I said that was ok even though it's pretty lame that you don't keep change in your register. He happened to find a very large coin bag and made me change. We were sitting right at the front and you couldn't miss us. They asked us a few times what our name for the order was and we told them the same thing every time. Finally after about 10 min they asked us for the 3rd time what our name was and then walked away. We could hear someone say "the order for Kymmy didn't leave they are here" or something along those lines. We kind of just looked at each other. The guy that rang us up came over and said, "sorry something happened to your pizza it'll be another 20min or so". At this point we had already been waiting about 15 min for the pizza. So we said ok because we were starving. One of the employees asked us if we drank wine we said no we didn't and that's why we were drinking cokes. He said, "ohh, okayyyy..." and gave us a very judgmental look. Like sir, you don't know why we aren't drinking. We also kind of figured he wanted to give us a few beverage for the mix up. But that was the end of it. We heard someone say our name and we asked if ours was ready and one girl acted like we were being impatient while waiting. Like we didn't just wait over a half hour for food. Finally our pizza was done after a total of 40 min and there was very minimal apology for the delay. We took it back to our hotel and we were so excited it smelled so amazing and it looked so good. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were when we took our first few bites. It was not that great. We had ordered pepperoni and the veggie pizza. We ate half of it because we were starving and very quickly regretted it. It made both of us super sick on top of everything else Needless to say we won't be back here and won't be recommending this place either
