This is our first time with Chez Bacchus and excited to try it. our reservation was at 6:30 and checked in at 6:15 It started well, we were greeted and seated right away. We ordered drinks first , cocktail and wine recommended by our server. It went downhill from here. We ordered octopus and bread for our appetizer and for our entree Pork chop and pasta . we waited for about 20 minutes for my octopus and the bread did not come until about 45 minutes later. We waited and waited for our entrees for another 40 minutes ,We did not get our entrees until before 8 when the entrees finally arrived . My pork chop was under seasoned and the pasta was overcooked . We are very disappointed We came because of the good reviews , the service is good and the waiter comped the meal. I had the BEST time coming here. Before I get into the review itself, if you can dress up in your best tea attire, it does wonders for the full tea experience (and luckily they have fun hats in many colors and styles for you to choose from if you don't have one). I went here for my friend's birthday and when I stepped in, I was pleasantly surprised with the space and how pleasant and professional the staff were. The arrangement of teas, both caffeinated and non-caffeinated for folks like me that don't drink caffeine, paired so well with the different pastries, breads, and other items on their food tower. They had sugar cubes and milk that you could add to teas for your liking and our hostess even let us mix different teas together for the ultimate experience. I also really enjoyed their thick cut bacon (and I mean thick!). I would love to come back here to enjoy their dinner menu and I know it will be great because everything is fresh, made to order, and you can tell the staff from the cook to the host to the owner really enjoy what they do and want you to have a great experience. This restaurant has been on my list for the longest time so I decided to make a reservation to celebrate my birthday during their afternoon tea! This was hands down the best tea time experience I have ever had. I had a large party of 12 guests and we all had the absolute best time! Everything from the service to the food was high quality and top notch. We had the honor of receiving our tea service by Melissa who was truly the most patient, kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating server. She walked us through all the tea options and helped us make our choices. Her amazing service honestly made the experience so much more enjoyable. Since it was my birthday I opted for the Queen's Tower which comes with the regular bacchus tower and soup plus two additional courses which includes caviar on soft scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on a sourdough Bellini; all paired with a glass of Veuve Clicquot. All of their pastries are made fresh in house and you can tell because it was so good. We also got their bacon and bread baskets for the table. The sourdough bread basket was the star of the show, it was fresh and perfectly served warm! The turmeric and charcoal sourdough was my favorite . This review is for tea time! Had an absolute wonderful time. They were so sweet and even provided a birthday sash and a parting gift. The teas were so good as were the treats on the tower. We got the Bacchus tower. $19 up charge for a glass of prosecco was a little wild but all in all it was worth it. It's super cute and airy inside. Staff is really sweet. This farm to table restaurant changes their menu with the seasons. The owner John makes you feel like you're family when you check in at the front and makes it a point to remember you. His staff is just the same way, always welcoming and like old friends meeting up for dinner. I've had their bread with the roasted garlic, the fried shrimp that is perfectly crunchy and tangy, their scallops and many other dishes. We got once every couple months and the menu changes but their are a couple items here or there that will occasionally stay but everything and anything you order is amazing and done with a personal touch that makes going here a different mouthwatering experience every time. I've been here several times since my first review. Chez Bacchus is always excellent. They now have a full bar and drinks are yummy. This review is for tea service which I love. Tea is brought to table and each blend explained which is a nice touch. The tea towers are full of yummy treats and are modified seasonally. In the fall, we had Pumpkin Scones, Apple Muffins, Special bread on Finger Sandwiches, Tiramisu....everything is super yummy! So much food, we always bring some home. Shout out to Staff! First time diners at Chez Bacchus. They are farm to table, using local vendors. We made a reservation for the bar and pretty much had it to ourselves. They had a nice selection of alcohol and a small international wine list. We started with cocktails, the boyfriend with a Hendricks martini and me with a Cosmopolitan. We started with the bread basket which contains like 5 different flavored breads, very tasty. Then we both ordered the Spring salad which came with avocado, sorghum, and the most flavorful and juicy strawberries. I got mine with no avocado or sorghum, so they added more strawberries and it was the most beautiful salad I've ever seen. For my main I got the New York steak with potatoes and sweet spring peas with mint. I wasn't crazy about the mint but the peas were tender and fresh. The steak was prepared to a perfect medium rare. I ordered the whole roasted garlic bulb with the steak which added nice flavor. The boyfriend ordered the lamb and was very pleased. Parking is valet out front for $15. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fantastic afternoon high tea experience. A friend treated me to an afternoon tea here for my birthday and we had an amazing time. We've been to our share of fancy teas and this one's among the top. The interior was gorgeous, with great light from all their large windows. I felt relaxed the instant I walked in. The servers made us feel welcome right away and were fantastic throughout. You know you're in for great service when they switch out the default white napkin for a black one since you're wearing black. After looking at their two tea options, we both decided on the Bacchus Tower, as the upgrade to the Queen's Tower didn't seem necessary at the time. Our server brought out a tea box with the loose leaf teas to explain our options, and we were off to the races! They brought out a small salad to start, which was kind of different--most teas will just drop off your tiered tower of stuff and that'd be that. The summer salad with market peaches was delicious; I imagine this salad will change seasonally. Since one of the savory tier items was a chicken salad sandwich and I don't eat meat, they had no problem with me subbing it with a second quiche. All the various items were great, with some interesting choices, like the watermelon shooters, which were refreshing. We did end up spontaneously getting a bottle of sparkling wine, for which they brought out one of those tableside standing ice buckets, raising the fanciness level up another notch. They never made us feel hurried, and we lingered a good long while. We were both very impressed--I think we'll be back for another special occasion before too long! read more

Everything was perfect. We enjoyed afternoon tea (Classic Bacchus Tower $65 per person) with Kristina as our server and tea expert. She was absolutely wonderful. We were pleased that our tea tower contained plenty of savory items, instead of an overload of sweets. There is also the option to order additional savory items (amazing bread basket, etc.). We came to celebrate my grandpa's birthday, and it was a wonderful experience. We did the buffet-style dinner, and everything was very well prepared and flavorful. Staff was attentive making sure plates were cleared and cork service was A+ The buffet included scallops, fried fish, prime rib, roasted vegetables, a honey balsamic salad, fruit tarts, and pudding. The prime rib was especially good--tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The honey balsamic salad really stood out too, fresh and well-balanced, easily one of my favorites of the night. I am an afternoon tea fanatic, so when some friends of mine heard about the tea service here, I knew I had to add it to my list to try. Unfortunately, the friends were already over it not because they did not offer GF and vegan options for those who needed it, but basically because they were provided with a response that you can't experience the real thing if you have those options and it won't be as good. I can say that is not the case, because we have gone to many afternoon teas that offer it and that I even enjoyed more as someone who orders the regular menu items. I decided to give this place a try anyway and the service was great when I made my reservation. The gentleman said they had the whole day open, but when I wanted 1:00 he really kept pushing for 12:30 for some reason. I caved, despite the fact that I was going to be lucky to be on time as I was volunteering right before on that day. I received my text later that evening to confirm my reservation at midnight. Huh?? So I had to call the next day and I was told that it defaults to AM and it was a miss. They were now assuming my reservation was noon and I had to say 12:30. When the day came, we arrived just on time and were lucky to find street parking which was not easy to do. I did not fee like paying $15 to valet my car. The man working the valet station was very kind and opened the door for us. We were seated promptly in a very sunny area. Melissa introduced herself to us and informed us that she would be our server. They asked if any of us had allergies. We informed her that Steven doesn't eat fish so they insisted on putting my shrimp salad crostini on the side and offered him an extra cucumber and cheese sandwich which was nice. We picked out our teas, I really liked that the servers go over each one and what is in them, and I really liked that they were loose leaf teas. I haven't had that happen at other businesses yet for high teas. She made them in front of us and we watched them brew, We also ordered bacon on the side so Steven would have more food. That was a thick, fatty, very rich piece of bacon. As our teas got low they were on top of filling it with more hot water. A gentleman brought our tea tower over and went over all of the options. We also had our cream and jams brought over. I really enjoyed the cranberry jam. I was not a fan of the scone as it seemed undercooked in the middle and had a weird aftertaste. Steven didn't mind it but commented that the cookie was stale. I didn't get to it as I got full before I finished the cookie and another dessert. I enjoyed the lemon poppy muffin and the chocolate covered strawberry very much. Everything else was okay, and the shrimp crostini had a fishy taste to it. What disappointed me though, was the fact that once there was a big party in the back, Melissa forgot about us. She never checked on us again and we saw her only tending to the big party in the back. Either she was moved there or just forgot about us because we were never offered more hot water or checked on again, Eventually the gentleman picked up our plates and another server brought me a to go box and brought the bill. Overall, I enjoyed the service and loved the loose leaf tea, but I have had better experiences and tastings so I probably won't be back unless another party wants to go, or maybe I'll come try some cocktails on their other days. read more

My cousins and I met up for afternoon tea at Chez Bacchus. I made a reservation in advance and tea is about $49.50 per person. Parking can be a bit of a search but I was able to find a spot on the street nearby. However, the restaurant offers valet if you're running late. Once we were seated, the staff came by to take any drink orders in addition to tea. They even did an entire tea explanation describing the different loose teas offered. We each received our own teapot with tea of choice and we went with: Christmas tea (x2), Peach Ginger, and Vanilla Almond Jasmine tea. We were pretty impressed with the tea presentation. We were told that our teapots would never go empty and they were right. Our teapots kept getting topped off. We even had to ask for additional sugar and cream at one point. Once the drinks were settled, they brought out the soup course which was a delicious little start to our tea. The food tower consisted of sandwiches, scones, and desserts. They offered cucumber, shrimp salad, and mushroom sandwiches. The scones came with the smallest amount of jam and clotted cream known to man. We had to ask for additional clotted cream. The dessert plate came with some bars, fresh grapes, and a salted caramel dessert in a glass. While the desserts weren't my favorites of the tea, I really enjoyed the salted caramel pudding glass. We had a lovely time chatting with one another and were never rushed throughout the afternoon. The staff was great and we really enjoyed our time at Chez Bacchus. Chef's Table Forever! Had the most incredible experience sitting at the chef's table and savoring 6 courses within the chef's "playground" of culinary creations. The service and hospitality was unmatched and the wine pairings were probably my favorite wines I've ever had. Our server was nice enough to move us to a more shaded table since we were burning up from the sun coming in and sipping hot tea. Unfortunately, the food itself was just average. Ordered the additionally bread basket but was very underwhelmed. The bacon was good but at $6 for one slice I would not order nor recommended it at that price. There were very few savories, only three different types and they were pretty small and mostly vegetarian. The scones I'd say were the best thing. Desserts too sweet. The blueberry coffee cake was dry towards the bottom. I love afternoon tea and have had many iterations, so when comparing this to my other experiences it really did fall short. The tea selection was ok but none of the varieties wowed me. I also wish they were able to provide tea warmers so that the tea stayed hot as you drank it. Parking in the area is terrible. She arrived before I did and spoke very highly of the service from time someone opened the door. She loved her drink and the bartender's presence and personality. EVERYONE is friendly here, which makes the service top notch and shows how much they appreciate their customers. Now to the tea... The parsnip soup was decent...I was hungry but this did not particularly stand out to me. The tea selection is nice with a variety of 4 black teas, and 4 other teas. You can catch the aroma to get a feel for the flavor. We enjoyed the Wild Rose and Ginger Peach. My only observation is that it can steep in the water for too long since they ensure you keep hot water in your teapot. The tea tower was superb! I was surprisingly full by the time we got to the top tier and couldn't eat all of it. The shrimp salad crostini was my fave and I wish I had more! Took my friend here for her special birthday. It's an absolutely gorgeous space with lovely decor and wait staff to match. They really do dress the part and you feel very pampered. We were, however, both disappointed in the food. That wasn't anything really on the plates that just wowed us. The summer peach salad was quite good. Then we had a chicken pisto sandwich that was bland and in serious need of some seasoning. A mushroom quiche was pretty good. The baked tier was chocolate chip scones, and a corn muffins. I thought the scones were over baked and hard and the corn muffins were just full of frozen corn. It was just really odd for a tea item. The top level desserts really didn't improve on things. There were two cake pops that were dulce de Leche and they barely had any flavor either. I took one bite. There was a watermelon shooter that had become lukewarm. A couple of pretty Lintzer cookies, and a pretty fruit tart that someone else mentioned was in an ice cream cone flavored dessert cup. It was very odd. A bruschetta piece was average. So it was quite a bit of money for a lackluster meal, unfortunately. I would definitely go back again, but I'd need to be sure that the menu has been revamped. read more

This is an extremely high end top service tea. From the hostess to the seating arrangements to the service it is 100/10 stars. This is fine dining, old school customer service, knock it out of the park all around! The extreme levels of comfort, politeness, "it's all in the details" service is first class. We had the tea which is price fixed and a set menu. You can add on a slab of bacon (thick and delicious) and house bread (ORDER THE BREAD!!!!!). The bread is sourdough based and comes with a salted one, molasses, and jalapeño cheddar. It is SO AMAZING. Today there were no eggs (you can usually order a side of eggs too, but today could not due to the county-wide egg shortage). Melissa was our server and she was polished, professional, and gave us an educational tour of the different blends of tea. We each got our own tea pot and they were clear so they replenished the hot water regularly. I swear my tea pot never got cold or empty! The food was spectacular we could barely finish and had to take the desserts home. The shrimp salad sandwich was the substitute for the egg salad. It was so darn good. The mushroom was pleasantly salty. The cucumber sandwich bread was the most light and fluffy bread ever made. The scone and muffin came out still warm! Both were good but since the scone is typically crumbly it would be nice if the muffin was less crumbly to balance it out. That's just a taste preference for me. I got the Christmas blend tea. It had notes of cinnamon and other spices. It was recommended by Melissa and was delicious. I'm so glad I tried that flavor. Hubby got the London and he enjoyed it. My wife and I don't leave many reviews, but Chez Bacchus earned this one. It somehow delivers a true fine-dining experience with a completely relaxed, personal vibe -- the holy grail so many restaurateurs chase. White tablecloths and perfectly preset glassware, yet concrete floors and an open kitchen. It felt like stepping into one person's vision, not a corporate concept engineered by algorithms to maximize spending. It felt intentional. It felt personal. Service was exceptional. Our server clearly had years of experience, but more importantly, he was genuinely kind -- not rehearsed or mechanical, but warm and a little sassy in the best way. We watched him mentor a young server throughout the evening, guiding him through the rhythms of fine dining with patience and respect. He gave the young man space to describe dishes and grow into the moment without ever talking down to him. On my wife's birthday dinner, being a "training table" could have felt intrusive -- instead, it felt like an honor to witness craftsmanship being passed down. The food was outstanding. The bread sampler is a must. Each loaf felt dense, intentional, and handcrafted. The poblano and the blue corn were especially memorable. The octopus was perfectly cooked -- briny and bright, not chewy -- paired with roasted potatoes and a vinaigrette that tied everything together beautifully. My wife ordered the European sea bass (essentially a whole branzino, deboned). It was supple and elegant, with phenomenal mushrooms that I'm still thinking about. I had the pork chop -- the best I've ever had. The exterior had this incredible char that created little bursts of texture and flavor, while the inside remained perfectly moist and seasoned. The farro underneath had a wonderful earthiness -- like a mouthful of pearls. My only minor critique: a bit of cranberry on top felt unnecessary to me. Beautiful presentation, and perhaps seasonal, but the meat absolutely stood on its own. For dessert, we had the monkey bread, flambéed tableside by the owner. I appreciated this approach -- owner interactions can sometimes feel forced, but this felt natural. He had a craft to perform, a rhythm to follow, and it created space for easy conversation. I set up a reservation for 6 hoping that this would be a good choice for a business dinner, and it absolutely delivered. Right off the bat, the restaurant was ok with a last minute change in head count which was a relief. Also I want to say that our server was dialed in the entire night. He was attentive without hovering and he found the perfect balance that's so rare in restaurants of being friendly and available, but not overwhelming. As for food, the bao buns were an immediate standout... perfectly soft with that balance of fat and acid that makes you a little sad that they are so small. For the entree, I ordered the lamb, which was rich, flavorful, and cooked beautifully (medium). It was a bit tricky to eat gracefully, but honestly, it was so good I almost picked up the bone with my hands just to make sure I didn't leave anything behind... And if it weren't a business dinner I would have absolutely done this. Also, the atmosphere was actually perfect for a business dinner, it wasn't empty to the point where you were questioning why nobody was there, but it wasn't packed and loud so conversation was able to flow. Really, the only surprise of the night was how long dessert took to come out. I won't remove a star for this, but I think the dessert took longer than the mains to arrive. To me it was noticeable given how smooth the rest of the meal was, but on the plus side it gave us the chance to share a few more stories with our guests. Overall, a fantastic experience. Such a beautiful space! I wanted to take my little girl out for afternoon tea and did a quick search for new places between LA and OC and Chez Bacchus came up. So glad we decided to make the drive down to Long Beach from Hermosa Beach. My husband decided to join us since I saw that they have a regular non tea menu. FYI, they actually only do Afternoon Tea from 1-3 on the weekends and no brunch or lunch- but they were able to accommodate a one off for the Mr since we were the only group there today. The service was AMAZING! Our waitress was so attentive without being intrusive, friendly and patient. My daughter and I got the afternoon tea and it was quite delicious. They have a variety of spread for the scones (apple butter, Devonshire cream, and raspberry). The sandwiches consisted of egg (I think it's a bit heavy on the vinegar), mushrooms, and shrimp. All were scrumptious! They have a decent selection of loose leaf teas (my daughter got the wild rose ) and I got the peach. The peach was quite good. My husband got the bacon and eggs. They make their own bacon (smoked in house) and he was completely blown away at how tasty it was! We were talking about coming back here for dinner because their dinner menu looks solid! Came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of parking! Again, the space is beautiful and not stuffy like the other tea rooms and I would highly recommend anyone thinking of doing any type of showers here! They even have a screen for those who wish to display some sort of slide shows. Their wine menu is quite extensive as we were told the owner was one of the sommelier from Napa. I went to Chez Bacchus for their afternoon tea service, and it was worth every penny! The interior was very clean, and the service was great! Upon arriving, our server pulled out our chairs for us and set the napkins on our lap. They had a good variety of caffeinated and non-caffeinated teas, and milk and sugar cubes were provided. A culinary experience! Very well thought out menu with great variety, but not overwhelming. There is a set menu with pairing option, or a-la-carte. We choose to order several dishes and share which proved to be more than sufficient. We were stuffed. We had a Reisling that paired lovely with everything we ordered. Settled on the Reisling after a blind tasting of a few potential drinks and it was the clear winner for our taste buds. Having the gentlemen who does all the wine ordering in house that evening to help us decide on the perfect pairing was a treat. Love the ambiance. It's on the darker side, romantic, yet didn't seem to have a dress code. It is more upscale dining in my opinion, so dress to impress to some degree. It was easy to make a reservation online. Seated right away and received wonderful service all night. The menu seems to change quite often, so definitely interested in returning to try some new menu items. read more

Amazing new find! We were at a Yelp Elite event nearby that ended at 8 and we wanted to continue drinking after so we walked around and found a beautiful wine bar named Bacchus. Chef Le has very beautifully prepared dishes. The space is cozy and they have afternoon tea on the weekends. Isaiah and Justin were wonderful hosts. We ordered a delicious octopus appetizer and the Queen Bee drink. We also ordered the large bread box with roasted garlic and it was amazing! We shared a dessert. We celebrated a special dinner at Chez Bacchus, and everything from service to food to cocktails was absolutely outstanding. The staff made the evening feel warm, effortless, and genuinely celebratory. We started with the charred octopus, tempura fried shrimp, roasted garlic with bread, and steamed bao buns. Every appetizer was beautifully executed and packed with flavor. For entrées, the table shared the rigatoni pasta, sea bass, lamb porterhouse, Japanese fried rice, scallops, and the Kurobuta pork chop. Each dish arrived perfectly cooked, well-balanced, and clearly made with care by Chef Danny and his team. Dessert took the night to another level: beignets with lemon mint glaze and monkey bread served tableside with a full fire show by John (the sommelier) fun, dramatic, and delicious. Cocktails were just as impressive: espresso martinis, spiced watermelon margaritas, and a classic Old Fashioned, all well-crafted and smooth. Chez Bacchus truly delivered a memorable celebration.
