I keep trying to give Uncle Sam's my business as they're right around the corner from my home, but they keep giving me fewer reasons to return. Food: extremely variable from visit to visit; oftentimes just blah. Is it the preparation, the food products they buy? I don't know. Service: food servers seem to try their best, but I don't think they get a lot of support from management or the kitchen. Management: I think the problem and the answer lies here. They other evening I went to pick up a to-go order and was behind a customer who had picked up his order and had the audacity to question if it everything was in the bags. It was a huge order. The manager went nuts and actually was screaming; customers were alarmed and embarrassed; servers looked away...what a mess. This is a small neighborhood restaurant whose original owner used to drive a car with plates "unc sam". Being a monster serves no purpose---maybe the guy goes to work instead of to counseling. Ultimately, Uncle Sam's might fail as managers just don't know that customers foot the bill, and they deserve good food, good service, and respect. read more

One of my old time favorites after coming out here in the late 80's. Very friendly service. Great sandwiches, pizza, wings and other yummies. You can see the open kitchen when you enter. Nice! We start with a baker's dozen of honey BBQ wings with a side of suicide sauce. I like the Italian grinder with sweet peppers and the wife gets the cheese steak with green peppers and onion. Can get a little noisy when really busy. Several TVs on the wall to watch sports. Try to get there early for lunch or at off peak hours and request to sit up front in a booth. read more

This place was a huge let down. I've heard that it was good from other people and I've been here 2 times. Both times it wasn't that great. First time I called and ordered a "chicken steak sandwich" with extra american cheese. Now in SJersey/Philly that typically means a chicken not Beef steak sandwich. The lady on the phone was actually rude She said that's not what it's called...it's a chicken sandwich. I said I know that's what I want. Then she said...well that's not what you said! I know we're not in Philly and they have their own terms but that was just an ignorant way to handle it. Then I get the sandwich and it's cut up chicken breast's...basically cubes. they have decent pizza here, but not for the price. 20$ for a medium pizza. today my boyfriend went to pick us up lunch from here and they forgot to pu sausage on it so they sprinkled it on top of it, causing the sausage to fall of the second you pick up a slice. they charge 4$ for 2 sides of ranch and then dont put the lids on them so you cover your car and self in over priced ranch. very disappointed and i wont be coming back. also they arent "patriotic" they are just as corrupt as the rest and they bribe their employees with a dollar raise if they get the vax. so dumb read more

They made a mistake with a cheese steak sandwich. They forgot to put cheese on it. I was not aggressive or upset. My date asked me if I could just get the cheese, instead of sending it back. Now we were there at 3:00, and they weren't busy. The waitress took forever for everything. So I went to the counter and asked for the cheese. The people I dealt with were great and pleasant. Then the waitress tells me the cheese is mixed in with the meat. I said Oh, okay as I brought the cheese back to the table. Then she starts telling someone, behind the counter, the cheese is mixed in with the meat, several times. As if she made the sandwich and is arguing. Now, she's not done. She comes to our table to say, the cheese is mixed in with the meat. Why? I don't know? I told her to look there's no cheese. She grabs a fork moves the tomatoes, then lettuce and starts rifling through the meat. She sees something about an inch long and 1/16" wide and says, see! then marches off. I looked at my friend and asked, that's lettuce, right? Yup! This waitress would hit our table running and then disappear, not giving us a chance to ask anything. I also had to get my own hot peppers and go to the counter to ask if I paid at the table, because she took forever. She took a nothing situation and turned it into a horrible experience. She acted as if she was on something, I'm sincere and nothing is exaggerated, ask whoever she was behind the counter with chanting, the cheese is mixed in with the meat. Where to begin. Literally top 3 most disappointing things I've been served ever. SO many things went wrong here. I'll start by saying my order went directly to the trash. It was inedible. I ordered a roast beef grinder, a hot sandwich served on wheat bread. I had it delivered because of the COVID stuff going on. Delivery time was normal. No complaints there, when I finally got the sandwich, I set it on my counter and heard a semi heavy knock noise. Didn't think anything of it, took the sandwich out of the bag, unwrapped it and find myself staring at a black piece of bread, with a chunk of melted cheese literally hanging off the side of the bread. Not even joking when I say this thing looked like it had been made in the back of a vehicle during a high speed car chase. The cheese had been melted and then ripped off the sandwich somehow. It wasn't even on the bread! The bread was so burnt I could BARELY bite into it. I knocked on it like a door. Two things about this completely infuriated me. The first being whoever made this obviously didn't give a flying F about quality of food, and the second being whoever OK'd it to be sent out to to me also didn't care. Two points of contact before this thing gets to me and two people who deem that acceptable. I have worked in restaurants for YEARS and would NEVER in my life send out something that burnt or sloppy. Completely unacceptable from a customer standpoint and a management one. CHECK YOUR FOOD BEFORE YOU HAND IT OFF TO SOMEONE. Really not that hard or time consuming. But I guess having to re make it would have been too much to ask. Wasn't even offered a refund or replacement. Just an "oops". I will never re visit this business. read more

Good bar type food. True. It's also good for a casual group meal - split a few hoagies and cheesesteaks. The pizza was alright, but nothing stands out. The wings were decent - but you can't mix flavors (ie 2 mild, 2 honey bbq, 2 suicide, etc) like at other joints. Now the steak and chicken sandwiches - worth it. A half is what most places label a regular size - and the whole - can feed 2-3 people. Hungry people. Which, I suppose it should be, for $12-14 a pop. I went after a Phoenix Suns game and it was easy getting seated. After a long day, the waitress was very very nice. Very good hoagie (italian submarine). I love the warm bread with the cold cuts and sweet peppers. We also split Hot chicken wings and they definitely have a kick to them. My brother-in-law had two as it was a bit hot for him. We have been going to Uncle Sam's since the 1980's. The food is yummy - the Uncle Sam's special pizza and the wings are really good. Normally we get take out. The 2-star rating is due to the interior of the restaurant and the wait staff. This place is in dire need of a make-over. Like I said, 1980's, yet it is EXACTLY the same. Except the chairs are ripped, there is no music, and everything feels old. The waitress we had the last two times should be doing something else. She obviously doesn't enjoy what she's doing. Please Uncle Sam's - you've got the food. But you aren't doing anything to attract new customers and improve the experience. With little competition in the area, you should be the "go to" place - yet I have no desire to eat there again. We'll stick with take out read more

This review is long overdue. This place has really gone down hill. I grew up eating there for over 25 years. They used to pack all of their sandwiches with loads of meat. Tonight I ordered a half turkey and cheese hoagie. There was hardly and meat on it. Literally like 1-2 slices on the whole sandwich. The bread was also not very soft. For $9.25 go somewhere else. I ordered a garden salad that appeared to have been prepared on the plate for a long time before I ordered it. Lettuce was wilted and slightly brown on the edges. Our kids do like their onion rings. We went to Uncle Sam's for dinner after just flying in from out of town. We used to live in Phoenix, and ate here a handful of times in the past. This time though.....we took our 3 year old and 10 month old. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and proceeded to give my 10 month tiny pieces of chicken to eat. Thank goodness I always inspect food, especially when we're eating out, because the chicken was COMPLETELY RAW in the middle. Not undercooked, RAW! My baby and I had already taken a few bites so of course I was scared for her, and furious at the restaurant. The manager comped our meal, but that hardly justifies being served raw in the middle, chicken. We will never step foot in this place again. Uncle Sam's used to be great. The best cheesesteak or sub. Great fries and wings. Those days are gone. It is hit and miss each time now. We hit Uncle Sam when nothing else sounds good either so about 2x per year. Today was that day. I regret it. I ordered the mushroom pepper cheese steak with grilled onions and sweet peppers. Over half of the steak in the sandwich was in-chewable gristle. About half of the normal amount of cheese. Zero on the mushrooms. Literally one bell pepper and they must have forgotten the grilled onions. I did however get 5 pieces of sweet pepper. We ordered a large basket of fries to split.... I hate re-fried fries. All 14 of them were that way. I'm sure I will be back at some point holding out hope. There is a reason we walked in at 12:10pm and this sandwich institution was less than half filled. My entire extended family used to use this as our impromptu reunion spot when I was a wee child. We still meet up here on occasion for nostalgia's sake. You can get a bud light on draft for $0.75 if you are into that sort of thing. I always get the cheese hoagie (Cold) with the sweet peppers. Delish. I'm 85 years old and my taste buds have over the years been replaced with the desire for the youth I once took for granted. But if there's one culinary recollection that brings a little flutter to this old man's heart it's the phantom taste of a Cheese Hoagie, that phallic masterpiece of untold proportions from Uncle Sam's. It's huge. They don't let me drive anymore but once in a while I want to jump in a cab and order one for old time's sake with with an extra side of the hoagie dressing. And eat it over the course of six days. It's that good. And that big. The hoagies are cold. The grinders are hot. The ingredients are slightly different for each but good god is this place good. The fountain drinks taste like they are mixed with really gross water but I gladly put up with it because the sandwiches are soooooo good. Uncle Sam wants me and I want Uncle Sam's!!!! Yuuu-uuum! The all-american sub is absolutely, by far my favorite sub in the world. The bread is great and it is toasted to absolute perfection. I can't even count how many times I have oredered it and it always comes out the same way and never disappoints! The cheese steak sub is also really good and their pizza and wings are pretty awesome too!!! I usually get it to go, but if you are planning on stopping in, they always have sporting events on TV which is pretty cool.
