Cibo is the kind of place that helps define a city. And this part of downtown Phoenix (the Roosevelt District) has had a rebirth in a city that's matured tenfold over the last twenty years. It had been a minute, but my friends and I made the Cibo lunch scene the other day. Now, when Italian-Americans order lunch, it's a given, EVERYTHING ordered is for the table. The pizza was as good as any Neapolitan-style pizza in town, including that dude named "Chris". The arancini was slightly over-fried, but I actually dug the crunch. Salad, fresh. Staff, energetic and fun. Fellas, take your date. You'll be a hero. Some places are restaurants. Some become part of a city's story. Cibo feels a lot like the latter. read more

Sarah and I had a wonderful dinner at CiBO tonight. The Salsiccia was the standout -- beautifully blistered crust, generous sausage, and exactly the kind of Neapolitan-style pie downtown Phoenix should be proud of. The arancini were a great way to start, and the Nutella e Banana with ice cream was the right call to close things out. But the night really belonged to our server, Jesus R. Attentive without hovering, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely warm -- the kind of service that turns a good meal into one you actually want to write about. Cibo remains one of downtown Phoenix's go-to spots--both a local favorite and a destination for visitors--and it's easy to see why. The setting does a lot of the work: a large, charming garden with plenty of outdoor seating that gives the whole place a cozy, almost village feel. Inside, there's a small bar that's tough to get into, but it's really your only option if you're walking in without a reservation and don't want to wait an hour or more. The kitchen is usually the highlight. With an Italian chef behind it, everything leans fresh and well executed--pizzas consistently shine, and the salads are just as strong. This time, though, the bolognese was a miss. The pasta was clearly overcooked, which stood out given how reliable the food typically is--felt more like an off night than the norm. The wine-by-the-glass list is solid and approachable, and the many awards feel well deserved overall. A diverse staff adds to the cosmopolitan yet relaxed atmosphere. Dinner with the family at Cibo's this evening. We sat inside thinking it was going to be way too hot to sit outside. I was pleasantly surprised and wished we would have. Their outside dining is amazing. Great atmosphere! They have a really nice misting system. Just as long as you don't sit right under it so your hair wont go flat. They also have fans that keep it cool as well. I thought it was great. Oh and as for the food, as always everything was delish. Our server was pleasant and had some amazing dessert recommendations. All in all, we enjoyed our dinner and will be back for another round again soon. read more

My favorite place for pizza in Phoenix. The mushroom truffle w/ pepperoni added is my go-to. Their gluten-free pizza is SO good and is Neapolitan style with a puffy crust and everything. As someone with celiac, I've never had an issue. Always get a charcuterie too. GF bread for that is now an up-charge. Haven't been in years, so this was news to me but it was fine. Cibo was so amazing! The best pizza and pasta I have ever had. I'll be thinking about our meal for a while. It was so good. We had a reservation for 7pm on a Thursday night. We arrived a few minutes before then and were seated right away. Our server was super friendly and the service was quick. We ordered the Rigatoni al Forno (baked sausage rigatoni), the pesto orecchiette with pine nuts and potatoes, and the Tartufata pizza (prosciutto, sun dried tomatoes, and mushrooms). Everything was so good. We were starving and ate everything. Definitely good sizes to share. The patio is so cute. I wish we would have eaten out there, but we weren't sure how hot it was going to be. Plenty of street parking around. I would imagine it could get difficult to find parking depending on the time of the day. We will absolutely be back if we are ever in Phoenix. read more

I had the calamari which was one of the best I've ever had. I had a side salad and the dinotte pizza. Soooooo yummy! Please be sure to get a side of Parmesan cheese and the spicy oil to drizzle and sprinkle over the pizza. Sooooooo good. Our local host made a reservation here, as it has gotten good reviews. The location is in a neighborhood just northwest of downtown Phoenix. The restaurant is a converted house, with most of the seating being in what had been the yard. There are a number of shade trees here, plus they have umbrellas, fans, and misters to keep it comfortable. It *may* be possible to sit inside as well, but this would likely require a reservation much further out than ours. The outside dining area was packed the whole time we were there. The outside tables were relatively comfortable when we ate here. They moved an umbrella over to block the setting sun for about 20 minutes, which was great. It looked like they had a musician tuning up her guitar but she had not started before we left. The menu featured selections of pastas, pizzas, and salads. We sampled 3 pizzas, all of which were good. As we were travelling and flying out the next morning, 2 of us split one, which was perfect for not having leftovers. The 4 in our group also sampled an appetizer composed of a fried rice ball with cheese. I was skeptical, but it was actually good. Parking is on-street, as there did not appear to be a dedicated lot for the restaurant itself. It was a busy area, but we did end up finding some spaces about a block and a half away in a residential area. I would definitely be up for another meal here. read more

My best friend and I are always looking for new places to try within the valley. We even keep a list! Cibo has been on the list for quite awhile and we finally gave it a try at the end of February. We doubled up on appetizers and went with the ciabatta garlic bread and the arancini. The arancini was unlike any I've tried before as it was meatless. I initially thought I'd miss the meat that's usually mixed in or atop arancini, but I did not. It was delicious and perfectly fried. We also really loved the garlic bread. It was everything garlic bread should be and was paired with a side of their rich marinara sauce. For our meal, we split the Margherita pizza. We were divided on if we should try a pizza or a pasta dish, but since pizza seemed to be what Cibo is known for, we went with that. The pizza was absolutely a good choice. The dough was incredible and the toppings were so robust and fresh. Since we were out celebrating my birthday, the folks at Cibo gave me a birthday crepe with a sparkler on top. It was so tasty and such a kind gesture. We were also really impressed by Cibo's service. Our server, Jamey, was attentive and helped guide us through our many questions about the menu items. Stopped here for our final night's dinner in Phoenix. Originally we had a steakhouse picked out, but made a change and headed here with a 9:30pm reservation. Located in a residential type area, the restaurant is inside a former house with a large outdoor seating area. Outdoor twinkle lights frame the areas and make this a great option if you prefer to dine outside. We had an indoor booking and checked in - immediately sat. It took a few minutes to get served but once we did, it was almost like the meal was in overdrive. That's a good thing. We ordered a margherita pizza to start which - with no exaggeration, came out in 3 minutes. Freshly made and dropped off. It was very good - slight char on the crust but airy dough, tangy sauce, good cheese and the most crucial part- basil. Textbook execution. For my entree I went with the gnocchetti sorrentina - gnocchi with a tangy red sauce, basil, and cheese inside. This was very good - the cheese in the sauce stuck to the fork but the flavors were spot-on. As dessert, I went with the Nutella milkshake which was served in what I remember as a glass chalice that used to be in those cat food commercials. It was very good and rich. Would recommend this as a cozy spot with authentic and fresh food. Cibo is the best pizza in town! The crust is slightly salty, perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside. The pizza flavors are unique and all delicious. They also have several delicious and unique pastas to chose from as well. The restaurant itself is so cute! It's in an old house and there is also a large patio that's surrounded by green with bistro lights overhead. Last but not least, the prices for the delicious food are very reasonable! Alright I've been here twice- once earlier this year in January and again about 2 weeks ago. This place always has glowing reviews and I want to like it soooo bad, but both times has been a bad experience. A service nightmare. The first time in January, our server was extremely inattentive, it was freezing and they declined to turn on the heaters, and our drinks took a long time. The only saving grace was the food, SO GOOD. This most recent time, we had a reservation and were sat inside. We ordered our drinks: 3 Aperol spritz and a bottled beer. After waiting legitimately 20 minutes for our drinks, our server comes back and says they'll be out soon. (???) we order our entrees and receive said entrees BEFORE our first round of drinks we had ordered 35 minutes before. Our server came over and said they were changing out the bar (?) and they'd be there "as a dessert" (??). We then finally receive our drinks and one of us makes a joke that one is more full than the other two. The waiter overhears us and returns to the table to then tell us that the aperol spritz is a pre-batched cocktail and that they aren't any different from one another. Then WHY did it TAKE SO LONG? As he dropped the check he made a sarcastic joke that didn't land and kinda just walked away. Acting like it was totally fine that our drinks didn't come until we were done with our meal. I really want to like this place but the food is the only thing that's good about it. Really don't have a reason to return anymore. read more

We had a very good experience at Cibo this afternoon for our date night. We decided on the little pepa and the fresh Barada. Personally for me, the bar told the show. However, the pizza was very light and airy and fluffy, and also almost equally delicious. They have options for soda, drinkers such as bottled cokes or canned cokes, and they have a very pretty outside patio with lights and space heaters. Phoenix has a lot of pizza. Like a lot. And many of them are good, if not great. Cibo will always be my favorite though. It's got the 10/10 ambiance, the 10/10 service and the 10/10 food. Not to discount the other Italian food on the menu which is top tier but my heart always says to go with the pizza. Wood fired to perfection, fresh ingredients and full of taste. I have mixed feelings about this place. Firstly their garlic bread is really good 10/10 would get that. We got like 3 different pizzas, 2 of which were tomato sauce based and the other was a white sauce based. The crust to every pizza was amazing, but the red sauce just wasn't it. It was like sweet and flavorless at the same time. Pizzas like Margherita pizzas are really like a "let the ingredients speak for themselves" and it just wasn't there. The white sauce was probably the best (it was like a arugula vinaigrette pizza) and that's just cuz the black vinaigrette can't go wrong. We also got the bolognese which was kinda a disappointment. The pasta noodles were all broken and the sauce was kinda watery. It wasn't anything special in flavor either. Holy moly the reviews don't lie - the best gluten free pizza in Arizona hands down. The first time I saw a gluten free pizza and wouldn't know it was gluten free only for the flag sticking out of it saying gluten free. The crust was fluffy and I've never seen that level of fluff before, the pizza itself was floppy yet had some crisp still and it was the perfect chew. We got the Da Vinci with cheese, sauce, and basil and the sauce was sweet and savory, the cheese ooey gooey, I'm a sauce person so my only complaint would be to add more sauce! They bring over grated parm, red pepper flakes, olive oil and vinegar to the table. The Genova was the star of the show. The pesto was divine and there was some sweet from the onions, the potatoes were cooked wonderfully, the cheese pulled it all together (pun intended). This was more unique and it delivered. Very impressed. We also had to get a gluten free crepe, we got the frutti di Bosco. It was massive and we were Already so full with leftovers but of course we couldn't say no! There was a good amount of mascarpone and it was light and airy and the crepe was also light and delicious. I loooove berries so this was perfect and there was so frickin many berries I was happily surprised. The lemon zest made this a truly refreshing dessert on a hot summer day. Our server Marley was very attentive and quick and kind. We loved her! The restaurant itself has several different rooms you can eat in, it's bigger than it looks - yet there's only 5 parking spots lol you'll have to find one on a side street. A quaint converted place in the arts district. I haven't been back for years, but took my daughter out to lunch today. Pizza is the vibe and it was good. Calamari for an app was good too, but something was missing. Maybe frozen, but not sure. I had the lunch (personal) diavola pizza and it was just good. I like a crust, but this seemed to be a lot of crust. And, I'm sorry....please don't ever serve crushed pepper in a tiny Shaker jar! Please get the jars with suits in them so something actually comes out! I looked liked I was having a spasm until I just took the lid off! Overall, nice place, especially outdoors and decent food. THE cutest outdoor patio with delicious pizzas and pastas! I started the meal with a glass of pinot noir which paired great with the pizzas. We had a margherita, pepperoni, and genova pizza which were all delicious - I especially liked the genova as it was a more unique flavor combination! We also had the pappardelle bolognese and the gemelli al forno. The pastas were both great but I would favor the gemelli al forno. The pasters were also great as leftovers the next day too! The menu had some nice apps pasta and pizza. They even had gluten free pasta , pizza, and crepes. My partner got thr gnocchi and it was the softest gnocchi with such flavor. The Quatro formagio pizza was unbelievable! If there has nit been a gluten free sign I would have not believed them. Easily the best gluten free pizza I have ever had. For dessert my partner had the suzette crepe and I had the glutej fr3 chocolate marscaopon3 crepe. Once again couldn't believe it was gluten free because it was sooooooo good. We hosted a private birthday celebration in Cibo Pizzeria's Carriage House, and I truly could not be more grateful for how seamless and special the entire experience was. From the very beginning, Michelle made the planning process incredibly easy. Her communication, attention to detail, and genuine care made organizing this event feel simple and stress free, which is especially meaningful when planning a birthday for someone you love. Everything was clearly explained and thoughtfully coordinated to ensure our needs were met. During the event, Sooki took wonderful care of our group all night. Service was warm, attentive, and effortless, allowing us to fully enjoy the evening. While I did not get to meet the entire kitchen team, they absolutely deserve recognition. The food was outstanding, from the arancini and osteria salad with shaved parmesan to the variety of pizzas, all of which were flavorful, beautifully prepared, and just as delicious as I remembered from past visits. Dessert was the perfect ending to the night. The Nutella crepes, served with ice cream, were a huge hit and a memorable favorite among our guests. It was the ideal sweet touch to close out an already incredible meal. The Carriage House itself is a beautiful and unique setting for a private event, and both my guests and my partner, the birthday celebrant, could not stop raving about how perfect the evening was.
