If there's one food that I can eat multiple days in a row, it would be PIZZA! In fact, when I went on my honeymoon, it was to Europe where Italy was certainly a highlight. It's nice when there's a place locally to get a taste of such a special experience. That would be Pomo Pizzeria! While I probably go to the Scottsdale location more often, my first visit to a Pomo location and my most recent visit were both to this Downtown Phoenix location. First, it is so easy to make a reservation, which can be done on their website (https://pomopizzeria.com/downtown-phoenix) or on OpenTable. You won't need a reservation though for lunch (at least not during the summer) though it's not a bad idea to have one for dinner. I have been meaning to stop by for one of their happy hours (Monday through Friday from 3-6 PM) where they have special priced bites and libations. They also have a special lunch menu for those of us braving the heat during the workday, especially during the summer, though no pizza options on the lunch menu. I have also enjoyed engaging with Pomo on Instagram and other social media. They occasionally host anniversary special events with free snacks, drinks, and prizes. Also, once upon a time, they hosted a contest to hunt down their billboards. They gave away gift cards to three lucky winners who found all three billboards. Just today, from when I first walked in to when I placed an order, to checking in on me during the meal, I appreciated the staff checking on me while not being overbearing. The food is also very good! I ordered the Diavola today without hot soppressata but with salami instead. The other ingredients were the tomato sauce, basil, and mozzarella so having a nice meat made it taste like a fine pepperoni pizza. Very good, especially with sprinkled parmesan. While I certainly plan to stop by this Pomo location again soon, I'm looking forward to visiting their other locations again, too. read more

Great Italian Cusine with an amazing Happy Hour! Location: Located in downtown Phoenix, this location has indoor and outdoor seating. Parking: We are staying near by and walked a few blocks to get here. The walk was pretty easy, no super busy roads or crazy alley ways. We later walked in and had great chats with the young lady serving Gelato and Hannah behind the bar. She made some great recommendations for us. Management and staff were extremely supportive and on top of things with our crowd of nearly 100 - packed the place to the gills. Hats off their staff - both front and back of house. I've come here quite a lot for happy hour martinis after exam days. They have some of my favorite espresso martinis in town (the cannoli, specifically, is to die for). The staff was all friendly and the bartender was great at explaining the choices I had for dinner. I went with one of their pies and it was ok. I definitely needed some more ingredients for my tasting. I found myself leaving a lot of crust due to minimal cheese added to it. I came by with two friends on a Sunday morning, expecting the place to be packed (it was prime brunching hours) but to our surprise we were the first patrons of the day. We had stopped by for coffee ahead of coming to Pomo, so we only ordered two pizzas to share and they were both perfectly crispy and hot. I recommend the Diavola. Our server was attentive, checking in with us every now and again to ask if we needed anything, and refilling our waters. She was also kind enough to bring us both their signature hot honey and oil to pair with the pizzas. If it's not too hot or too cold, I recommend sitting outside. Pomo is located on 1 St, which isn't super busy / there isn't too much car traffic which makes it great to get some fresh air and people watch. read more

I never had grilled peaches in my salad before but it was very good pairings. We also got 2 different pizzas one was capricciosa and the burratella. We always try a new pizza when we go and these two were delicious!!! Of course some of my friends wanted ranch but honestly it didn't need it. They do give you fresh parmesan and crushed red peppers but they also have this chili out that great as well. I would not recommend the pasta tho for the price does not match the portion #youllleavehungry. I will start by saying that Phoenix is not NY, New Haven, or Chicago. However, Pomo makes a fantastic neapolitan pie with a closer to NY style crust. The pies are slightly larger than a personal, so one can work for two or one, if someone very hungry like myself. The Don Alfonso is my favorite, with the hot suppressa adding great flavor on top of the perfectly charred crust. I have also enjoyed the Quattro Formaggi and the Toto Sapore. This has been a place that I have confidently recommended friends, family, and coworkers. The restaurant is small, so a wait is possible.
