Lil Capo Pizzeria 5.0/5 The Closest Thing to New York Pizza I've Found in Arizona Growing up in Upstate New York, I admittedly have high standards when it comes to pizza. After moving to Arizona in 2007, I've spent years searching for a slice that genuinely reminds me of home. While there are plenty of decent pizza spots throughout the Valley, very few capture that authentic New York style. Lil Capo Pizzeria absolutely does! Ironically, I first discovered Lil Capo after an Arizona Cardinals game. Like many people, I wasn't interested in paying stadium prices for mediocre food, so I jumped on Yelp looking for something nearby. Lil Capo had outstanding reviews, so we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did because it's now my benchmark for New York-style pizza in Arizona. The first thing that stood out was the crust. This is exactly what a New York slice should be--thin, crispy on the bottom, slightly chewy inside, sturdy enough to fold, and never overloaded with grease. So many places think "New York style" simply means making a large slice. Lil Capo understands it's really about the balance of crust, sauce, cheese, and texture. Every bite reminded me why I miss pizza back east. The sauce has just the right amount of sweetness and acidity, the cheese is perfectly proportioned, and everything tastes fresh without trying to reinvent what already works. Sometimes simplicity executed well is the hardest thing to accomplish. Pizza: 5/5 Service was equally impressive. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. After selecting our slices, they quickly reheated them to perfection and had them on our table within minutes. It's exactly what you want from a neighborhood pizzeria--fast, relaxed, and genuinely hospitable. Service: 5/5 I also appreciated the atmosphere. Lil Capo isn't trying to be flashy or trendy. Instead, it has that classic neighborhood pizzeria feel where the focus stays exactly where it should--on making outstanding pizza. It's casual, comfortable, family-friendly, and somewhere you could easily become a regular. The pricing is another pleasant surprise. Considering the quality of the pizza and the generous slice sizes, I found everything to be very fairly priced. Overall Finding authentic New York-style pizza in Arizona has been surprisingly difficult over the years, but Lil Capo delivers exactly what I've been searching for. Authentic New York-style crust Excellent sauce-to-cheese ratio Minimal grease Friendly, efficient service Fair prices Comfortable neighborhood atmosphere I've eaten pizza throughout New York my entire life, and Lil Capo remains the closest I've found to the real thing anywhere in Arizona. Whenever I'm on the west side of the Valley--or heading to or from a Cardinals game--I find myself looking for an excuse to stop in. Next time, I'm skipping the slices and ordering an entire pie. World-class pizza in AZ! I have traveled the world and had many Pizzas, and this is hands-down one of the best pizza places I've ever experienced. Tucked away in the Westgate Mall, it's a compact, modern little spot that likely gets buzzing during the lunch hour. The service is excellent--you just order at the counter and they bring the pizza out to you. If you're in the area, do not pass this up. We'll absolutely be returning on our next trip to Arizona! read more

Visited around 4:30 pm- didn't catch the servers/cashiers name but his service was exceptional! Offered to cut our pizza into smaller pieces for our toddler and even put on something for her to watch. The pizza came out quick and was delicious- hearty and plentiful toppings. Came in today 6/6/26, I tried the pepperoni and cheese pizza slices. The slice is giant. The pizzas are made to order in the oven. I like how the slices are thin and the crusts tasted great ! And they were not too oily. Also end the meal with coffee chocolate gelato size small. The portion was generous! read more

Great service, amazing prices, and a fantastic menu -- including pizza by the slice! I had the deep-dish square pepperoni with hot honey and a scoop of chocolate chip gelato for under $10. One of the many eateries at the west gate mall. This is a small place and very modern inside and I would think this place would get busy during lunch. You order at the front and they bring the pizza to you. Service was good and the pizza was delicious. Will certainly return if we're back in AZ. read more

Good late night snack after a fun day at pop stroke. A group of friends and I came around 9 PM. The interior is small and has few table seatings. It seemed pretty busy since the whole pizza were going to take 30 min. I got the slice of the white pizza ($5). Love how they warm up the slice in the oven after ordering. The white pizza had a good amount of cheese and garlicky, a little too greasy for me but overall a solid New York style pizza. The slice is generous so one slice was good for me. Very cool little spot tucked in the westgate district. Walk in grab a slice of pizza. They have some different options but you can always order the whole pizza in two sizes. The Diablo slice is my fav so far but all are delicious. If gelato is your thing grab some. Not mine so I have no clue how it tastes. Let me know. The staff is friendly, courteous and eager to help. When the Los Angeles Rams came to Arizona to beat the Vikings, we ate here before our victory. (lol!) This shopping center has SO MANY options, but we wanted to enjoy our meal and not worry about being too full for the game. We walked in, and they had their pizzas on display. We ordered a slice of cheese and pineapple pizza - both were so good! We also ordered garlic knots - there are not for the weak, the garlic is FRESH. It smelled very good coming out, but the garlic wasn't cooked down so if anyone is sensitive to that, you might want to avoid it. We enjoyed it, so the garlic knots were great. It's rare that you find a really good pizza spot with how many shortcuts most take but I found one. This place is amazing. Born n raised in Jersey you know what pizza is all about. It's starts with the smell of dough as soon as you walk in. They sell by the slice too!! Oh yea you know you found a good spot. Crust perfect. Good crunch of the crush. Fresh mozzarella with a good clean sauce. I had garlic knots with this order but they didn't make the picture because they were already gone. Trust me you will not regret going here. Finally decided to give Lil Capo a go... Wish we would have done it sooner! The pizza dough is great with good combination of chew to crunch and still light. Sauce is great with a freshness to it that pairs well with the cheese in balance not one over powering the other. We got the 20" pepperoni and added roasted red peppers with sausage on my half. Again the toppings worked well together without any overpowering. The sausage is great doesn't have the strong fennel notes that most do, I recommend it! We also got the 12 garlic knots.. so good with fresh garlic flavor! I ordered take out and the employees working were great, more than helpful & made me feel welcome. This was a very pleasant surprise. We went because we'd heard good things about it and we had a great experience. We started with 2 slices, lil meat and a lil diablo with a side of garlic knots. Both slices were chock full of good stuff. Both were delicious. After a couple minutes, the knots arrived and were garlicky and oily. Yum. We split a scoop of ice cream and it was also delicious. I sped the teens off for a concert and had some time to waste. Came across this Pizzeria and decided to eat here as it smelled amazing. They offer whole pies as well as slices. And even ice cream! I sat outside to eat my slice and enjoyed the weather. This pizza is so dang good! The mixture of seasonings in my mouth was like an explosion!!! If this place is open after the concert I'm bringing the kids here up eat. It's not a large restaurant, but the utilize the space well. Pricing was fabulous as was customer service. Honestly so freaking good, we use to head to Vegas and would try different pizza places especially because I love the large NY style ones. Glad I dont have to pay the price of Vegas or drive over 3 hours. If you haven't tried it its a must try. Only reason it isn't 5 stars is because I love sauce and this is really light on the sauce which most large slices are but this is little too too light in my opinion but overall really tasty read more

Dined 3.21.25: Came in for a slice before catching a movie. They had several options and even gelato options. Ended up with a Diablo slice (pepperoni, ricotta, hot peppers and hot honey drizzled once it came out the oven. They put your slice in the oven to reheat & crisp it up for you. Pizza was tasty...just a bit too greasy and the undercarriage didn't hold up as it was soften by the grease. I did enjoy the crust but may stick to a lighter slice to see if the undercarriage holds up. I do enjoy a nice crispy crust. We grabbed a few slices, cheese, veggie and I forgot the others name but it had ALL the cheeses. These slices are huge and prices are on par. Okay, this is a long overdue review. We LOVE LOVE LOVE lil capo! It's our favorite place to get pizza and you definitely get what you pay for if not more. The portion is HUGGGE!! and it's always made fresh. We're able to eat this for a couple days of meals!! I always get half bbq chicken and my bf gets half pepperoni. Fuji our son loveeeeees lil capo and especially loves the pup-peronis! They're located in the heart of Westgate and they also have the best gelato ice cream. The flavors are perfectly sweet and I love how smooth the texture is. I prefer this over cold stone!! There is a small dining area inside but we live very close so we love taking our huge box of pizza home to enjoy lol! Also the staff is so so friendly and really prides themselves on their pizza!
