Salame calzone
Vlad V.

I have been to Forno 301 Phoenix two times, both for dinner on weekdays before performances at the Phoenix Theatre Company. While they don't have a parking lot, I was told I could park at Muse Apartments for free. The signage at the apartment complex says that you have to pay, so I wasn't willing to roll the dice. Instead, I've parked for free on a side street a few minutes away by foot both times. Ambiance (3/5): There's good and bad here. It's a charming Italian restaurant with a nice patio as well as bar seating, high tops, and tables inside. The bar seating has bar stools without back support which is always a detriment for someone with an old man back by me. It's a relatively small restaurant, too. My most recent visit was on a Wednesday evening, and they were almost at capacity. The acoustics are quite bad, so it's one of those experiences where you have to scream to hear your dining partner. Service (3/5): A tale of two cities. The first time around, the service was solid. The second time around, almost non-existent. Our waiter never came around to check on us and we had to track him down to get a refill and also for the bill. They were busy, but you expect better. Drinks (N/A): I've had Arnold Palmers both times, so not much to comment on. With that being said, they do have a full bar. Food (4.5/5): On my first visit, I had their margherita pizza. Simple, but a classic. On my second visit, I had their salame calzone, which is essentially a meat lover's calzone. Their menu consists of appetizers, salads, pizzas, calzones, and pastas. It's a simple menu, without meat-centric entrees. Which is a little different, but what they do, they do well. The pizza here is authentic Italian pizza. I've been to Italy four times and I've had pizza there too many times to count. You can also tell the quality of their ingredients from the quality tomato sauce to the mozzarella used. My only complaint? The calzone was spicy, and this wasn't indicated on the menu. As someone who can't handle too much spice, this took away from the dish for me despite the quality of the ingredients. Next time around, I need to try one of their pasta dishes. And I have my eyes on their tiramisu, too. Some of the best Italian food, and pizza, I've had since I moved to Phoenix in January.

Parking was definitely a little confusing, there's no signs that indicate parking specific for the restaurant so I just parked in the retail parking spaces. The restaurant itself is small but cute. They have outdoor seating as well but were covered right now that it is summer. I really liked the bruschetta, I felt like the pasta was missing something like more cheese and there was none offered when they brought it out like other places. They also don't have a lot of options for pasta. I had a slice of pizza and that was pretty good! Will probably go with a pizza next time.

Came to Forno 301 for an afternoon snack on a Sunday. Ordered a meats pizza to share, a glass of house cab (), and a tiramisu! The pizza was delicious and a lil spicy. Idk what that oil on the table is but it adds a nice smoky flavor when added on top! Crust is flavorful tender lovely. Boyfriend has never had tiramisu before but gave it his approval (no tiramisu needs MY approval). I think we beat the dinner rush as well bc by the time we left, place was packed! Note; we had to park under the apartment complex it's located at and I almost got run over by a car speeding out of the lot so be careful folks!

I walked in hoping for comfort. Instead, what I found was a dish that whispered "Italian night" without fully singing it. Let's start with the pasta. The cavatelli, while not house-made (unlike some of their other options), arrived with a slight chew--underdone at the edges, better toward the center--almost as if it had been waiting a bit too long in its post-boil bath. The Bolognese sauce was well-balanced, but muted. No one ingredient stood out. No warmth from the tomato. No richness from the meat. It was cohesive, yes--but lacked soul. Like it had been seasoned in bulk rather than stirred with love. There was no sign of aged cheese to round out the dish, and curiously, no bread offering at the start--something I didn't realize I missed until I looked down and my plate was all sauce and no sponge. Eventually, a small piece of bread arrived. Crispy, yes, but clearly not house-made and missing that warm, garlicky touch that makes even the simplest table bread feel intentional. As for the service? Adequate but forgettable. My server knew her ingredients, but made no effort to read the table or elevate the experience. No recommendations. No curiosity. No warmth. She didn't even serve the first glass of water--a small but telling moment. It felt like she wasn't there to create an experience, just to take an order. Like indifference wrapped in hospitality protocol. It felt like ordering at a slightly more expensive diner--not a ristorante. The vibe itself leaned casual: uncomfortable chairs, basic tables, but a surprisingly enjoyable 80s R&B playlist (Hi-Gloss, if you're into that). A strange mix of soul music and soulless food. It was quiet enough to talk easily, but the atmosphere didn't invite you to linger. In the end, this was an average spot--fine for when you're hungry and want a slightly bigger portion without a big occasion. But if you're looking for flavor that tells a story, or service that sees you, this isn't the trattoria you're craving. It's the kind of place you forget by the time you reach the parking lot.

Let's start with the most important part: FOOD My husband had the Forno pizza and it was so delicious sausage onions mushrooms all fire sauce and cheese were swag money so incredible! The crust was cooked to perfection! Soft chewy and crispy on the outside I had the calzone salaame. Again the sauce and cheese were so delicious the crust was cooked to perfection. If you are a meat lover lookout because this thing is filled with meat! I was a little disappointed in the fact that they didn't serve appletinis so I just stuck with a San pelligrino Service was ok. I think because there were only two servers our server was a little overwhelmed but she was friendly. Very cute vibe going on here. It seemed to attract a lot of business professionals but it would be a super sweet place for a date night.

Here's an example of where there's like no coverage of cheese at all on parts of the pizza.

Ordered the Sporcacciona pizza (basically a meat lovers pizza). Where to start..... first the cheese on the pizza was just in spots on the pie. The sauce was bland and tasted like a generic grocery store brand. It has to be one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. As I'm sitting there with a co worker we looked at each other and we both agreed that a Pizza Hut meat lovers pizza would have been better. I've had pizzas from some of the best places in NYC and all across this great country but this has to rank at the bottom of the list.

One of my favorite restaurants in the valley, I've been going since they were at their previous location! The quality of food here is on point. You can't go wrong with basically anything on the menu, but I especially like the Acciughe Pizza and Carbonara. The salty anchovies impart their flavor across the whole pizza and the crust has that beautiful wood fired taste. I often have to get a whole pizza for myself, it's just so good that I don't want to share! Atmosphere is nice as well, and I've never had to wait to be seated here despite being a smaller space. On top of that, the staff is friendly and familiar. Lastly, prices are super reasonable!

Very good. I sat at the bar and had good service. My glass of wine was excellent and I had the pasta of the day which was delicious.

If I have even been to a restaurant that deserves a Michelin star, it's this one! Truly one of the best places I have ever eaten in the United States. Everything, from the espresso, to the homemade pasta, to the creme brulee was incredible; I felt like I was eating in Europe! Even the water here was good. I seriously can't get over how DELICIOUS the food here was. Everything was homemade, fresh, seasoned and cooked to perfection. The service was excellent - we arrived shortly after 8pm and there was no wait. It was surprisingly easy for us to find parking in the lot next door, which thankfully had marked parking spots for the restaurant - also nearly impossible to find when eating downtown anywhere. Perfect spot for a romantic date, and the pasta is a MUST try! It's a pretty big serving as well, I had enough fettuccine to share with my husband and still bring some home. Also highly recommend the creme brulee!

This place is so cute. It's a small Italian restaurant in Phoenix with a casual atmosphere in downtown. We went to the Japanese Gardens and wanted to find a nearby place for dinner so that's where we landed since it is super close. I had the ravioli butter & sage and cavatelli and it was so delicious and comforting. I saw the pizzas folks ordered and absolutely thought I needed to try that next time. Our server was super friendly and helped us decide.

Roberto! Roberto is the man! Literally the best service I have received in downtown Phoenix during the day. Now the just time service from Steve! Steve is impeccable! Great food, service, and great drinks! If you want great service great Italian food and great drinks come here!

We came to Forno 301 before catching a show at The Phoenix Theater Company. We made a reservation but were running late--the 10 is closed, traffic is bad, then missed the entrance for parking. We called. The woman who answered insisted we didn't have a reservation. Then said it was fine and she'd hold the table. She didn't. We got seats at the bar. It took a few minutes to get menus and we had to ask for them but after that, everything was amazing. Bartender was great--let my friend try a couple of wines before committing. We split a pizza and a salad. The margarita was great. Could have been a tiny bit crisper, but I was really happy with it. The dressing on the mista salad was amazing. Not sure it went with goat cheese but loved it. Vibe was family owned Italian. People next to us got offered limoncello. So food was great. Will come back.

The setting does a lot of the work: a large, charming garden with plenty of outdoor seating that gives the whole place a cozy, almost village feel. Inside, there's a small bar that's tough to get into, but it's really your only option if you're walking in without a reservation and don't want to wait an hour or more. The kitchen is usually the highlight. With an Italian chef behind it, everything leans fresh and well executed--pizzas consistently shine, and the salads are just as strong. This time, though, the bolognese was a miss. The pasta was clearly overcooked, which stood out given how reliable the food typically is--felt more like an off night than the norm. The wine-by-the-glass list is solid and approachable, and the many awards feel well deserved overall. A diverse staff adds to the cosmopolitan yet relaxed atmosphere. Even with the misstep, Cibo holds its place as one of the better all-around dining experiences downtown.

This is an embarrassment to anything Chicago or Wrigley related. Barely any beef and some nasty sausage patty, served with a bag of chips. This was not edible, so I just picked off the beef. The pizza was decent, but I can get better from Rosatti's. The worst part of the meal was the calzone. It was disgusting and barely warm. We all took small portions to taste and none found it edible. We left almost the entire order on the rack, aside from the pieces on our plates. Did the server care to ask? No, but more on that later. The small cheese with Ricotta was barely ok, but the ricotta was not as fresh as served at DeFalcos or Vero in East Valley. Service: AWFUL. We told the server that we want the large pizza to be our appetizer and then bring the rest of the food out. Nope. She brought everything out together. Refills? Had to try and finally get her attention. Never asked about our food. Didnt ask why the calzone was barely touched and we didn't want it to go either. Overall: Not coming back period.
