Great atmosphere, friendly people, delicious food. Parking garage is behind the restaurant, it is small and difficult to navigate in a larger vehicle.

I have been to Forno 301 Phoenix two times, both for dinner on weekdays before performances at the Phoenix Theatre Company. While they don't have a parking lot, I was told I could park at Muse Apartments for free. The signage at the apartment complex says that you have to pay, so I wasn't willing to roll the dice. Instead, I've parked for free on a side street a few minutes away by foot both times. Ambiance (3/5): There's good and bad here. It's a charming Italian restaurant with a nice patio as well as bar seating, high tops, and tables inside. The bar seating has bar stools without back support which is always a detriment for someone with an old man back by me. It's a relatively small restaurant, too. My most recent visit was on a Wednesday evening, and they were almost at capacity. The acoustics are quite bad, so it's one of those experiences where you have to scream to hear your dining partner. Service (3/5): A tale of two cities. The first time around, the service was solid. The second time around, almost non-existent. Our waiter never came around to check on us and we had to track him down to get a refill and also for the bill. They were busy, but you expect better. Drinks (N/A): I've had Arnold Palmers both times, so not much to comment on. With that being said, they do have a full bar. Food (4.5/5): On my first visit, I had their margherita pizza. Simple, but a classic. On my second visit, I had their salame calzone, which is essentially a meat lover's calzone. Their menu consists of appetizers, salads, pizzas, calzones, and pastas. It's a simple menu, without meat-centric entrees. Which is a little different, but what they do, they do well. The pizza here is authentic Italian pizza. I've been to Italy four times and I've had pizza there too many times to count. You can also tell the quality of their ingredients from the quality tomato sauce to the mozzarella used. My only complaint? The calzone was spicy, and this wasn't indicated on the menu. As someone who can't handle too much spice, this took away from the dish for me despite the quality of the ingredients. Next time around, I need to try one of their pasta dishes. And I have my eyes on their tiramisu, too. Some of the best Italian food, and pizza, I've had since I moved to Phoenix in January.

We had two of the pastas, as well as the tiramisu and crème brûlée desserts (not pictured); all four dishes were somewhat boring and very average. The pasta dishes were bland and the desserts did not taste very good either. The service was good, and the place was cute; somewhat disappointing.

My friend and I dined here last night after seeing a show at the Hershberger Theatre. We had such a great dinner. The wait staff are phenomenal. They are very friendly, attentive, amd personable. They make you feel at home. The restaurant has a fun and inviting vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. I love that they have appetizer specials as well as main entree specials. Our waiter explained the specials very well and made good food recommendations. We shared the appetizer special which was a cheese trio. It was delicious but only came with two small pieces of bread. The staff were happy to bring us more. My pesto gnoccchi was fresh and well seasoned. The portion was huge in my opinion. The drinks were good and we received generous hours of our wine and free limoncello shots after dinner which was a very nice touch. I will definitely be back. It's worth making a trip downtown for. They have a parking garage in the apartments they are attached to for easy access.

Indoor and outdoor seating, and a bar that offers both

Shared a delicious artichoke and eggplant pizza and it was the perfect size to share with fine "pickupableness" with Neapolitan texture and flavor. An extra treat was that they have bottles of spicy oil on the tables, so I was able to enjoy the crusts by slathering them with the tasty oil as though they were breadsticks. On the way out, after mentioning to the bartender how good the oil was, I was gifted a couple of condiment cuplets to-go, which was a thoughtful and nice touch and sort of made up for the server who wasn't particularly warm or informative as I had to ask about the specials and whether or not all the pasta is freshly made, etc. Heck, if you have a great selling point like homemade pasta, talk it up and get us to drooling! There is a variety of seating available, including outside and at the bar--bar has an inside section as well as outside which is a nice design for the lovely weather days. However, it's unfortunate that the outdoor seating is on such a busy traffic corner, so it's not the little retreat it would otherwise be. The lunchtime music was more like happy hour music, not conducive to conversation--maybe for the cellphones-at-the -table crowd it's okay, but being near the Phoenix Art Museum and Arizona Opera, why not add to the cultural experience of the area by celebrating its Italian origins with some Italian music? Even if just added as interludes during every few pieces, it would enhance the ambiance. We had to raise our voices to carry on our conversation, but it was manageable. However, when I came back the next week with a friend with a hearing impairment, it became more problematic. She tried adjusting her hearing aids, but the thumping rhythm kept taking precedence as we tried to find a quieter corner, but it wasn't possible as it is a small space and speakers were close to each table. I felt so bad that she couldn't enjoy a meal there--we both were so looking forward to having a fresh pasta dish, but just couldn't stay. Upon leaving, I felt I should let management know why so I waited to speak to him, offering constructive criticism about the sound level but he was not the least apologetic nor said he would take it under advisement, but was completely dismissive and harrumphy as though we were annoying problems and not potential regulars with suggestions worthy of consideration. How hard would it be to have a quieter area or make a speaker accessible with volume control? People, whether on the spectrum, with hearing impairments, or just lovers of good conversation deserve respect and when it is not given, will go elsewhere....

Parking was definitely a little confusing, there's no signs that indicate parking specific for the restaurant so I just parked in the retail parking spaces. The restaurant itself is small but cute. They have outdoor seating as well but were covered right now that it is summer. I really liked the bruschetta, I felt like the pasta was missing something like more cheese and there was none offered when they brought it out like other places. They also don't have a lot of options for pasta. I had a slice of pizza and that was pretty good! Will probably go with a pizza next time.

Came to Forno 301 for an afternoon snack on a Sunday. Ordered a meats pizza to share, a glass of house cab (), and a tiramisu! The pizza was delicious and a lil spicy. Idk what that oil on the table is but it adds a nice smoky flavor when added on top! Crust is flavorful tender lovely. Boyfriend has never had tiramisu before but gave it his approval (no tiramisu needs MY approval). I think we beat the dinner rush as well bc by the time we left, place was packed! Note; we had to park under the apartment complex it's located at and I almost got run over by a car speeding out of the lot so be careful folks!

    Cavatwlli Bolognesse
    Jennifer M.

I walked in hoping for comfort. Instead, what I found was a dish that whispered "Italian night" without fully singing it. Let's start with the pasta. The cavatelli, while not house-made (unlike some of their other options), arrived with a slight chew--underdone at the edges, better toward the center--almost as if it had been waiting a bit too long in its post-boil bath. The Bolognese sauce was well-balanced, but muted. No one ingredient stood out. No warmth from the tomato. No richness from the meat. It was cohesive, yes--but lacked soul. Like it had been seasoned in bulk rather than stirred with love. There was no sign of aged cheese to round out the dish, and curiously, no bread offering at the start--something I didn't realize I missed until I looked down and my plate was all sauce and no sponge. Eventually, a small piece of bread arrived. Crispy, yes, but clearly not house-made and missing that warm, garlicky touch that makes even the simplest table bread feel intentional. As for the service? Adequate but forgettable. My server knew her ingredients, but made no effort to read the table or elevate the experience. No recommendations. No curiosity. No warmth. She didn't even serve the first glass of water--a small but telling moment. It felt like she wasn't there to create an experience, just to take an order. Like indifference wrapped in hospitality protocol. It felt like ordering at a slightly more expensive diner--not a ristorante. The vibe itself leaned casual: uncomfortable chairs, basic tables, but a surprisingly enjoyable 80s R&B playlist (Hi-Gloss, if you're into that). A strange mix of soul music and soulless food. It was quiet enough to talk easily, but the atmosphere didn't invite you to linger. In the end, this was an average spot--fine for when you're hungry and want a slightly bigger portion without a big occasion. But if you're looking for flavor that tells a story, or service that sees you, this isn't the trattoria you're craving. It's the kind of place you forget by the time you reach the parking lot.

Let's start with the most important part: FOOD My husband had the Forno pizza and it was so delicious sausage onions mushrooms all fire sauce and cheese were swag money so incredible! The crust was cooked to perfection! Soft chewy and crispy on the outside I had the calzone salaame. Again the sauce and cheese were so delicious the crust was cooked to perfection. If you are a meat lover lookout because this thing is filled with meat! I was a little disappointed in the fact that they didn't serve appletinis so I just stuck with a San pelligrino Service was ok. I think because there were only two servers our server was a little overwhelmed but she was friendly. Very cute vibe going on here. It seemed to attract a lot of business professionals but it would be a super sweet place for a date night.

My friends and I were looking for a last-minute casual cocktail/dinner situation and decided to try Forno. We had such a good time. The food was great and even though they were super busy (and we didn't have a reservation) the service was great. My negroni was very strong, just how I like it. I've never had eggplant on a pizza, and I'm not huge on eggplant in general, but it was really good! My friends and I will definitely be back.

One of my favorite restaurants in the valley, I've been going since they were at their previous location! The quality of food here is on point. You can't go wrong with basically anything on the menu, but I especially like the Acciughe Pizza and Carbonara. The salty anchovies impart their flavor across the whole pizza and the crust has that beautiful wood fired taste. I often have to get a whole pizza for myself, it's just so good that I don't want to share! Atmosphere is nice as well, and I've never had to wait to be seated here despite being a smaller space. On top of that, the staff is friendly and familiar. Lastly, prices are super reasonable!

The green has pistachios and fresh arugula on it, I thought the overall flavor was too sweet and the pistachios weren't crush enough. The Phoenix was good, very honey forward and overall the flavor didn't stick out to me. The di Parma was a cheese pizza with procuttio and ricotta, overall a little plain to me. I won't add to my previous review regarding the food, as it is still just as fantastic. And while the old location had its charm (mainly that it was more intimate and a bit quieter), the new location is overall an immense improvement. First of all, it is much larger, modern, and very tastefully decorated without losing as much of the intimacy as they could keep. For instance, the decor on the walls makes you feel like you are somewhat at home, with photos of the Spinato family and other tasteful finishes. Everything is comfortable without being too casual or formal. It's definitely more open concept now, and bar-lovers will appreciate the full bar, as the old location only had a tiny one. The covered patio area is much nicer, and with an eastern exposure, it should bake in the sun less than the old place's western exposure for most of their operating hours. We were seated at a half-booth, and the restaurant was very crowded because it was their first Friday night at this location. Nonetheless, we arrived early enough to be seated without a wait. Lil Capo Pizzeria 5.0/5 The Closest Thing to New York…read morePizza I've Found in Arizona Growing up in Upstate New York, I admittedly have high standards when it comes to pizza. After moving to Arizona in 2007, I've spent years searching for a slice that genuinely reminds me of home. While there are plenty of decent pizza spots throughout the Valley, very few capture that authentic New York style. Lil Capo Pizzeria absolutely does! Ironically, I first discovered Lil Capo after an Arizona Cardinals game. Like many people, I wasn't interested in paying stadium prices for mediocre food, so I jumped on Yelp looking for something nearby. Lil Capo had outstanding reviews, so we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did because it's now my benchmark for New York-style pizza in Arizona. The first thing that stood out was the crust. This is exactly what a New York slice should be--thin, crispy on the bottom, slightly chewy inside, sturdy enough to fold, and never overloaded with grease. So many places think "New York style" simply means making a large slice. Lil Capo understands it's really about the balance of crust, sauce, cheese, and texture. Every bite reminded me why I miss pizza back east. The sauce has just the right amount of sweetness and acidity, the cheese is perfectly proportioned, and everything tastes fresh without trying to reinvent what already works. Sometimes simplicity executed well is the hardest thing to accomplish. Pizza: 5/5 Service was equally impressive. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. After selecting our slices, they quickly reheated them to perfection and had them on our table within minutes. It's exactly what you want from a neighborhood pizzeria--fast, relaxed, and genuinely hospitable. Service: 5/5 I also appreciated the atmosphere. Lil Capo isn't trying to be flashy or trendy. Instead, it has that classic neighborhood pizzeria feel where the focus stays exactly where it should--on making outstanding pizza. It's casual, comfortable, family-friendly, and somewhere you could easily become a regular. The pricing is another pleasant surprise. Considering the quality of the pizza and the generous slice sizes, I found everything to be very fairly priced. Overall Finding authentic New York-style pizza in Arizona has been surprisingly difficult over the years, but Lil Capo delivers exactly what I've been searching for. Authentic New York-style crust Excellent sauce-to-cheese ratio Minimal grease Friendly, efficient service Fair prices Comfortable neighborhood atmosphere I've eaten pizza throughout New York my entire life, and Lil Capo remains the closest I've found to the real thing anywhere in Arizona. Whenever I'm on the west side of the Valley--or heading to or from a Cardinals game--I find myself looking for an excuse to stop in. Next time, I'm skipping the slices and ordering an entire pie. If you're a fellow New Yorker living in Arizona and craving a slice that tastes like home, Lil Capo should be at the top of your list.

Tucked away in the Westgate Mall, it's a compact, modern little spot that likely gets buzzing during the lunch hour. The service is excellent--you just order at the counter and they bring the pizza out to you. If you're in the area, do not pass this up. We'll absolutely be returning on our next trip to Arizona!
