Great atmosphere, totally chill bartender (in a good way!) who helped us decide on local beer to try (being from Portland we make sure we try beer that's not from home when we are out! A fun little speakeasy in the heart of downtown Phoenix. A little tricky to find the hidden door within a restaurant, but once you do, you are in. No reservations at this place, just first come, first serve! As mentioned the bar is not gigantic. When you walk in on the right there is a long bar with stools and on the left there are some small booths great for couples. The place does feature a couple large booths for larger parties of 6. The ambiance is dark like most speakeasies. Super modern looking with live plants gracing one of the walls and alcohol on the rest of the wall requiring a ladder to access top shelf. If you are hungry, the bar does offer some food. There are a variety of tacos on the menu and a raw bar. On the raw bar you can get oysters and shrimp. Lastly the bar does have a small happy hour. Another 5 star visit to Pigtails! My husband and I came with my parents to celebrate their birthday Friday night and were wise to make this our first stop on our speakeasy tour of Phoenix! Jack was quick to greet and seat us while Eulalio expertly crafted some delicious mystery shots we requested that even came with a flaming garnish to be treated like birthday candles! We LOVED it!! We arrived during happy hour so we also ordered some oysters and shrimp to graze on, FANTASTIC! The oysters were good but the star of the show? After a comedy show at Stand Up Live, hubby & I went to Pigtails for a night cap. The speakeasy has a hidden entrance inside of Coabana. There are no reservations here, but we were able to grab a booth pretty quick. The drinks were nice & boozy, and they have a nice whiskey collection. I didn't have any food, but they offer lite bites. They open late, so this is a good option for a night cap downtown. read more

After seeing The Format at the AZ State Fair, one of my friends said let's grab a drink. We hitched a ride to Downtown and after some misses due to long lines and no availability, we ended up at Pigtails. We found two seats at the bar and got a couple fun, inventive cocktails. I asked the bartender for her favorite drink and she said the "Black Magic Woman" which was a blackberry infused bourbon cocktail. It was great, and for my second drink I asked her the most unique drink on the menu and she said "Down The Rabbit Hole" which was tequila based and had carrot among other things and cream cheese foam. Who knew that was a thing? Also delicious. My friend and I were going to have one more cocktail but we decided to check out another bar simply for variety. Was going to check out Coabana for drinks, and we saw a group go through a side door into Pigtails, a speakeasy bar. No reservations were needed and you could simply walk in. The bartender Karly, was radiant, kind, and very great at suggesting my boyfriend I in the right direction of flavor to savor. She suggested the Rose glasses for me and Son Of a Peach for him as he's a whiskey drinker The drinks were more delicious than described on the menu I feel because Karly was so good at her mixology. We've given this place a few tries, but it's always the same story. The hostess greets you with all the enthusiasm of someone who'd rather be anywhere else, and makes a point of telling you there's "a wait list" even when the place is clearly half empty. Her tone is consistently rude, which is not the welcome you'd expect from a spot that's supposedly about atmosphere. The rules inside are just as odd -- no standing is allowed, which severely limits capacity and makes the space feel unnecessarily stiff. And while it's billed as a "speakeasy," the illusion doesn't hold up. There are multiple signs literally pointing you to the door, which kind of kills the whole concept. Overall, it feels more like a gimmick than an experience. Plenty of better options nearby where you'll actually feel welcome, and maintain the exclusivity of a speakeasy without the attitude. read more

First of all I cannot understate the quality of the service I received. Eulalio had other tables, but we consistently got our drinks and food quickly without errors, even when they were on the complicated side. He is a true boon to the business! The restaurant itself is hidden inside another called Coabana, but there is a door clearly labeled Cocktails to get to it. Through the door the hustle and bustle of the busy restaurant outside gives way to a cocktail bar that feels much more intimate, with dark lighting and quieter music than is playing outside. It was perfect to converse and enjoy drinks with friends! This time we went with some friends, and each of us could not stop talking about how good everything was! We started with In To The Blue shots for the table, which were so good we wished we had sipped them. Then we ordered our first round of drinks and food. We shared a plate of nachos and they had the perfect balance of toppings and chips, then my partner and I ordered some tacos and a Cubano Sammie. The sandwich was delicious, much better than the average Cubano I've come across in Phoenix. The tacos were also great, and $11 for 3 was a steal! Our friends also got tacos, which they enjoyed. My partner ordered Cupid's Dagger and the Insomniac to drink, and she loved both of them! Cupid's Dagger was also served with a bubble of smoke and it was on a little silver tray, which was cool. I ordered the Son of a Peach and Femme Fatale, and they were both delicious. The Femme Fatale was also served inside of a wooden cake tray filled with smoke, which was a very cool experience and added to the flavor of the drink. All in all this is not just a restaurant, but an experience. And if you have some money to go out in downtown Phoenix, I would say this experience is not one to miss! If it's time to go to Pigtails I also know it's time to get an Uber because all their drinks are so good, you MUST try all of them. You get in by going through a kitchen (LOVE) and enter in a dimly lit space with an intimate vibe. I usually always get the nachos but we know I'm not here for the food, I'm here for the DRINKS! Overall a great experience! Came here the other night to grab a little bite and some drinks. The oysters were really good and the nachos were fantastic. The nachos had some beautifully charred pork on top with this delicious chimichurri sauce. I decided to be adventurous and try the mystery punch, which wasn't too bad either. Only negative was the service could have been better. The place was not very busy but our server was never around. Cool bar that was hard to find. It's marked on the outside, but you kind of walk through a kitchen then into the quaint little bar. You enter the bar from Central Ave just south of the hot dog place. There were about 8 of us and some weren't drinking and it had a nice mix of cocktails and mocktails. I had the Mezcal Cocktail (I can't remember the name) and it was delicious. We stayed about 45 mins or so and enjoyed the back corner booth. Service was great as he kept checking on us. It was fairly busy, but not overly packed on a Friday night. This is a great downtown Phoenix speakeasy. You know you're there when you see the a-frame sign with a pig drawn on it--no words, just the pig--on the sidewalk out front. Just go through the little room with the kitchen counter, and through the door. It's a great atmosphere, dark and cozy. There are tables along the wall and a larger booth in the corner. The bar walls have plants on either side of the shelves, which I love the look of. At the top of the liquor shelves is a pigs head. I can't decide if it's creepy or not--he is a little scary. We did not order food this time, but we have ordered the nachos before. They are gigantic--enough for us to share and not need dinner afterward. The cocktails are great, and the mixologists are very talented. Hubs ordered the mystery punch. He was daring and it paid off. It was delicious! Upon observing others being seated, my husband inquired about our wait and was informed it would still be 40 minutes. He questioned the hostess and made it known that I was told about 25. She responded by denying that she would never have told us that. After waiting for about 40 minutes, we were eventually able to get a table. I love this place. We went with friends who've been there before, thankfully! Nondescript door, next to a Cuban restaurant with a small chalkboard with a pig drawn on it. Enter. You will be greeted by a guy washing dishes? He welcomes you and tells you to go on in. Once your eyes adjust to the low light, you will be amazed. Full living wall behind the bar and very nice bartenders. Tell the bartender what you like and they will make it for you. I told him I liked Manhattan's and not very sweet. He concocted an amazing cocktail with whiskey, several different kinds of bitters and I'm not sure what else. It was sooo good, I had two. My friend had a spicy margarita, not too sweet and she said it was amazing. Hubs and hers had craft beers and they really liked them. Pigtails has food. The oysters are so fresh and good (for a landlocked state) and the Fun-guy flat bread was fabulous. When you leave, the door has a sign that reads "employees only".
