I think one of the things I like most about 36 below is the ever-changing theme. We were here tonight I really like the Halloween theme. Lots of spider webs and giant spiders and cool little Halloween touches everywhere. The thing I loved most was the weird monster on the screen--look closely to see lots of spiders crawling around! There were some pretty cool cocktails on the menu. Between all of us, we ordered the Fear and Loathing, the Blood of my Enemies, the Cursed Chalice, and the Sweet Sacrifice. We really liked all of them, but I think we all agreed the Sweet sacrifice was kind of amazing with its toasted (they toasted it at the table) marshmallow foam. We also ordered food from the very limited menu. We got the French baguette with french butter, the potatoes au gratin, and the coq au vin with root vegetables. We weren't terribly hungry, so we ordered two of everything to share between the three of us and it was plenty. We sat at the bar, which we love to do. It is always quite a show to watch the cocktails being made. Our bartender was really great. 36 Below is one of these places that we come over and over again, and we will continue to come. Weekend reservations around Halloween and Christmas really book up fast. I've already got my Christmas reservation set.
This was our second time at 36 Below. We had such a great experience the first time, so we brought some friends with us this time. Unfortunately, this visit was a little disappointing. Both of my drinks were kind of a letdown. I got the Fear and Loathing first, but it wasn't smoked! Then I got The Orchid because I remembered how pretty it looked on their website. But they were out of the special glass, so mine came in a parrot instead. It was cute, but just not as impressive as I was expecting. We still had a great time with our friends, and I still love the speakeasy vibe here. I just wish the drinks had the same wow factor as our first visit, especially since we brought our friends because we told them how cool this place was!
While visiting a friend on Phoenix for a long weekend, we stopped by 36 Below, the speakeasy cocktail bar located under Sip Coffee & Beer. It is a themed cocktail bar, and I believe the concept changes quarterly. When we visited, the theme was "Midnight in Paris." When we stepped inside, the space was decorated with faux flowers, artwork, classical-style busts, and flickering faux candles, creating a fun Parisian-inspired atmosphere. We spent some time chatting with the bartenders, who were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to talk through the menu and the rotating themes. Every cocktail is served in unique, creative glassware that adds to the overall experience. I was looking for a tequila-based drink and ordered the Foam on the Rim ($18), made with jalapeño-infused tequila, watermelon, lime, and ricotta cream foam. It was good, almost like a dessert in cocktail form, but too Rick to have more than one. We visited around 8/8:30 p.m. on a Sunday evening. Aside from a small birthday celebration, we practically had the place to ourselves. The intimate size and quieter atmosphere made it an ideal spot for a date night or catching up with a friend without having to shout over loud music. This was a cool spot to explore, I'm glad we stopped in!
As expected, this little speakeasy lived up to the hype. We have had these reservations for a Halloween weekend spooky date night for awhile, definitely recommend the reservation. Drinks were very delicious and served a whole experience. The small plates we ate were delicious and served quickly. The only distaste my boyfriend and I had was the chairs were not the comfiest. It is a small speakeasy so you already feel very tight. The added uncomfort of the chairs being small and low padding was definitely prevalent by the end. Still a 5/5 experience and look forward to coming back to see the next theme!
Went with my wife and daughter for the Halloween theme. The decor is well done and not a spot is missing, although it's not too hard filling the basement bar the size of a walk in closet in some homes. It was cozy, but we didn't feel cramped in the small padded stool chairs, although the waitress may have felt cramped squeezing by between the bar patrons and table customers chairs, about 12 inches space. The drinks were amazing and had great presentation and the server was so friendly, loved it!
Stopped in to grab a drink while on the hunt for a cocktail bar and 36 Below popped up. You enter through Sip coffee shop which is confusing and there's no obvious signage when you first walk in. It's located in the basement, so there are no direct windows or doors in the establishment. BUT the AC was kickin so all is well! We sat at the bar which was supposed to have wireless charging stations, but the one at the end of the bar was broken. This bar changes themes throughout the year - this time was a Paris theme, so all decorations and drinks were based on that vibe. We got two drinks - the Oaxaca In Me and Kiwi's Nest. Both drinks were yummy and strong, but you're definitely paying for ambiance and presentation more than anything else. Our bartender was friendly and chatty. The bar is very small with even smaller seating arrangement. I believe reservations are strongly recommended, we just happened to stop in at the right time. Didn't try any food, but if it's anything like their drinks, it's probably smaller portions. Probably won't be back unless every other bar we're by is busy.
So this speakeasy was a cool spot to chill at! You have to enter through the Sip Coffee Bar, and go downstairs. I heard about this place from good ole fellow Elite, Vlad. 36 Below changes their theme every so often, and this time it happens to be "Midnight in Paris." I wasn't sure if I had to dress the part, but for my first time there, I made sure to look polished. Upon entering, I was shocked to see that the place is TINY!! The table we sat at had the tiniest chairs I've ever seen!! I didn't know Vlad had been here at few times before, but since I got there first, I told him he may hit the ceiling, lol! The ceilings are pretty low, but tbe space is very carefully decorated to fit the current theme. We chose to order the Cocktail Experience for Parties of Two, which includes 4 cocktails or (mocktails) and their Gruyére Mornay Baked Macaroni. You can choose to upgrade the food portion (just pay the difference). Our server was super nice and friendly throughout our visit. Vlad had heard about a "secret code" and when he gave that code to our server, we ended up with 2 specialty shots on the house! It was super cute and fun to watch! I can't spill the beans and tell you what the code is, you just have to find it another way... lol. As for our cocktails, you would think we would have ordered different things, but we were kind of boring and got the same things, haha! The Epernay and the Chateau De Chambord. Both were delicious, but we both preferred the Chateau over the Epernay. Presentation is beautiful! We saw other people's drinks and every single one was stunning in its own way. To note: the glasses can be purchased! There is a glass case by the stairway going down, a day the prices are listed by shelf numbers. We didn't buy any, but we did like the aesthetics. As far as the food, we only sampled the mac and cheese, and to be honest, it was not the best in my opinion. I'm used to a creamy mac, but this one is more on the dry side and "bread crumb-y." It didn't taste bad at all, but it definitely had no creaminess to it. It's also a very small portion. That being said, you don't come here for food, it's the cocktails, of course!! At $84 for 4 cocktails and a side of mac, you're saving a few bucks since the drinks cost around $20 each. I do suggest eating somewhere else before you come here. I believe reservations are also required. They will charge you if you don't cancel ahead of time and end up being a no show. You've been warned! This place is a solid 4 stars for the experience. The chairs at the tables are small and uncomfortable so if you're a larger person, I'm just saying it may not be comfortable for you. They do have bar seating and that looked way more comfortable. Nonetheless, 36 Below is a good time for sure. Let's see if we can catch the next theme!
Wanted to update on going back for the spooky theme :) Once again great experience drinks were great and got some food this time. The bread and the salad were great you can definitely tell the chef they brought in for this knows what's up. Both were so simple, but were amazing and had so much flavor. Service was perfect, can't wait to go back for the next theme!
Well...this was a nicely crafted gem of a place to try out. If you want drinks and an enjoyable bar scene of relaxing, chatting, drinking or just enjoying the underground scenery. This is the spot for you to try... Upon walking in, you're figuring out which way to go but it's wag to find and you find that entrance to the bottom. Great drink selection and tip top service. I enjoyed my time and drink here... It's a must to try. Thank you 36B!!!!
What a beautiful little speakeasy! Located below Sip Coffee and Beer Garage, it's like you are walking into a beautifully decorated fairytale. We were greeted by two bartenders who were very friendly and even offered to take our photos to make our night more memorable. I didn't get their names but they were very attentive and pleasant. We ordered drinks only but noticed the food looked delicious. I ordered the Earth - White Rum, Plum Wine, Red Rice Spirit, Oolong Peach Cordial, Lime, Cherry Blossom. $18. Delicious. My friends ordered the Air - Buddha's Hand Vodka, Yogurt Soju, Jackfruit, Chamomile, Forest Liqueur, Shiso, Lemon, Coconut Air, Strawberry Jello. $18 And, finally the Orchid - Vodka, St. Germain, Aloe, Lemon, Lavender. $19. This had a light inside. Displayed beautifully. Are the drinks a little expensive? Maybe. But it is about the experience right? It's a fun, friendly and immersive experience in this underground speakeasy.
A few girlfriends and I finally made it in to 36 below after talking about it for months. We came during Christmas time which was quite hard to get in. We booked about two weeks out & had to do a late night week day. It was still worth it though! The only negative was that we still had to wait about 15 mins after our set reservation time to be seated. The bar was decorated so beautifully inside & made you feel like you stepped into Christmas in NYC. I loved how cozy it felt. We did the three person deal which included two drinks for each of us & the mistletoe dip. I thought the pricing was pretty reasonable & I really enjoyed everything. The drink presentations were everything! I'll definitely be back again to check out another theme & hopefully it won't be as crazy busy during non-holiday season.
I say...come check it out but know these things first: I've seen this place all over social media and it looks super cool--however--this place is not as big as it appears online. Make reservations. Understand that the 90 min (1hr, 30 min) experience goes by fast and they will have 1 server and 1 bartender for the whole place (at least on a Saturday at 4pm). We would have ordered more--we typically always do at these places but we timed out. Seating is also tight. We got sat at the very bottom of the stairs and in the way of the constant staff going back and forth to the kitchen. I could have easily elbowed one by accident. The chairs are very uncomfortable too BTW. Our server was super helpful and kind but poor thing is just one person for a room full of patrons in a tight small space. With that said--the theme we experienced was the Neon Tokyo. It was good. I came. I saw. I conquered. I don't know if I would come back but that's the thing with themes--depending on the theme...I may come back knowing the service is slow. Alright food and cocktails: I would say 7/10 We did the party of two--4 cocktails and 1 appetizer. 1st Round: I ordered the Fire cocktail--awesome presentation with the Fire. Cocktail itself was mid. My fiancé ordered the Earth and his was delicious. 2nd Round: I ordered the Orchid--pretty presentation and yummy cocktail. Would rate it as an 8/10. The fiancé ordered the Void and it was DELICIOUS!!! Our favorite cocktail of the night. Food we ordered was the potstickers and they were very mid. I can cook these in the air fryer myself. Considering the powerhouse speakeasy spots walking distance away at Century Grand--this place is subpar compared to Platform 18, Undertow, RenRx which are all far superior. Like I said--come try it and cross it off the bucket list.
Visited 36 Below for the ambiance initially but stayed for the amazing craft cocktails and perfectly balanced small bites. The speakeasy vibe with Midnight in Paris was so pretty! I can't wait to visit again soon for their Halloween theme! Robert the bartender was super swift and knowledgeable in his craft, Thank you for taking care of us! Cheers !

What a fun speakeasy! My friend and I had drinks at 36 Below over the summer during their Aquatica theme. My friend made a reservation which was wise because it was pretty busy. As we descended down the stairs, it felt like we were entering an underwater oasis. The Aquatica theme had a tiki bar vibe. We were seated at a table for two. The chairs were small and extremely uncomfortable. Our server was Summer and she was very nice and attentive. She told us about the date night special which consists of 4 cocktails (or mocktails) and an appetizer for $79. We weren't planning to do more than one drink, but it was too good a deal to pass up. We started with Chips and Guac which was so delicious! We were happy to have some food to munch on since we had already enjoyed a few cocktails nearby. For the first beverage I went with the Coral Queen. It came in a cute mermaid glass. It was a gin based cocktail and it was a bit on the sweeter side. My friend had the Pearl of the Sea which came in a cute conch shell glass. Glasses can be purchased for $30. For my second drink, I had the Anaya Spritz which was very refreshing. It was a basil cucumber and olive oil cocktail which is right up my alley. My friend had the Earl Grey Sour which she enjoyed. The theme changes quarterly, though they do have signature cocktails that stay on the menu. We had fun and it was a great way to end our night! read more

What we got: "All for four" Lemongrass potstickers Crab salad Earth cocktail Fire cocktail Air cocktail All for four or something like that priced at $164 for 8 cocktails or beers and mocktails , and two lemongrass potstickers unless you wanna exchange one of them for another food item they have which we did and got the crab salad , as a none cocktail drinker myself i really enjoyed the earth one similar to a mai tai without orgeat if you are allergic to nuts like myself decor was cute an music on point , food was soooo goood omg those potstickers weren't super lemongrass flavored which is really nice as well as the crab salad. Had the perfect amount sauce and then went really well at the seaweed slices that they provided. We overall had a really great time here and I can't wait for the next event. Service was a bit slow due to how packed it was but other then that no problems read more

We were so stoked to try out the Tokyo After dark menu but we are giving a 1 star for the service that we received. We were first advised that the system overbooked reservations and the hostess was doing what she could to get us in. When we were finally placed it took us 10 minutes to even be acknowledged by Naya who asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. It also proceeded to take another 20 minutes for her to come back to get our order. We thought the busy hour was over when we got our drinks. We requested our check early so we could make it to another reservation. However 15 minutes later, after being completely ignored we finally had to walk to the waitress Naya to get our check. If this is a problem, consider hiring 2 servers On the menu overall, our favorite was Earth and Void cocktails. The menu was overall tasty but please provide better service. read more

I love the current Midnight in Paris theme! So creative and fun...it's an instant icebreaker and something different to do with a group of friends or on a date. The drinks are tasty and the presentation is top notch. We also got a charcuterie board, which was good but I wish they included more of each meat/cheese so we could all try each item. The server we had was very knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. My one complaint is the quality of the furniture. Me and my friends stayed for 2 hours enjoying the ambiance but at the end of the night our bottoms were sore from the cheap, uncomfortable seats. read more

We checked out 36 Below's Christmas during their holiday pop-up and had such a fun time. First off, we came in matching "chest" and "nuts" shirts, which felt very on brand for the night The bar is tucked away in the basement of a coffee shop, so it's definitely a tight space, but don't let that fool you. It's cozy, festive, and absolutely packed with personality and flavor. We did the Cocktail Experience for Two, which included four cocktails and a dip, and it was such a great value. We upgraded to the crab dip with naan, and it was 100% worth the upcharge. The flavor was rich and indulgent. Could it have used a little more crab? but I'm from Baltimore, so my crab standards are admittedly spoiled Still delicious. Food wise the chicken & cranberry meatballs were a standout. So good that I'm already planning to recreate them at home. I mean YUM For drinks, I had the Filthy Animal and the Snow Globe. The Filthy Animal was a really creative, cozy take on a hot toddy. Wife and I have been wanting to try 36 Below's Christmas themed bar and drinks. Located beneath Sip Coffee & Beer it is a small themed bar with rotating motifs. We secured an early reservation at 4 pm and were promptly seated at our reservation time. Quickly greeted by our server and the specialty drinks were explained and we put in an order. I ordered the Nutcracker Reposado Tequila, Coffee Liqueur, Amaro Montenegro, Blueberry Cordial, Salted Maple Pistachio Cream, Mexican Mole (contains dairy, nuts). Wife opted for the Snow Globe Vodka, Soju, Beet, Pomegranate, Orange, Baking Spice, Lime, Cherry Blossom, Yogurt Clarified (contains dairy) Both drinks were very tasty and the presentation was appropriately themed and well done. The bar quickly filled up and it becomes pretty tight quarters, not to where you are jammed in too tightly but the volume of conversations and temperature definitely increases so dress in some layers if you're prone to higher temps in tight spaces. I opted for the Filthy Animal which was a tasty hot toddy Graham Cracker Infused Whiskey, Chai Tea, Spanish Vanilla, Scottish Honey, Lemon, Bolivar, Cold Foam (contains dairy). Wife went for a Kiwi's Nest which was a very unique but tasty tropical type of cocktail Rum and Pisco Blend, Coca Leaf Liqueur, Kiwi Cordial, Taro-Coco Milk, Lime, Cherry Bark. By this time an hour had passed, the bar was full and drinks were taking about 10-15 minutes so we opted for the check. Totally understandable. Service was good but there's only so much staff you can get in that small space and be able to seat enough people, but not so many you can't get around. I would highly recommend reservations as this place was tiny. It's expected because it's a speakeasy more like hidden gem. I love the dim area and sitting at the bar was best because you see everything. I didn't try any of their food just the Ube dessert and it was delicious. Their drinks were good too. We were really excited to find this Halloween speakeasy located in a cafe , however immediately after entering we were told they were "so busy " and asked if we had a reservation. We did not have a reservation so we were asked to LEAVE . This isn't a boojey speakeasy by any means and as you can see from the photos there was so much empty space . This is a really cool speakeasy that regularly changes the theme! The theme was neon Tokyo when I went and the decor and the screens did a great job creating that experience. It's located downstairs in Sip and you have to make a reservation in advance. They have themed and signature cocktails available as well as some food. Absolutely gorgeous setup, loved the theme and the ambience. The drinks we got were fun and creative, although the themed drinks tended to be heavier, more complex spirits so not a lot of super fruity drinks, at least from what I saw. The tables are very small and very close, so don't expect privacy. It's a bit cramped down there, but still a really fun date night. The elote dip is AMAZING. I'm about to go back just for that. read more

OK I really really really really really wanted to like this place. I love Halloween stuff. But it just wasn't as fun or immersive as I thought it would be. I loved coming here when it was undertow. It really gave you that under the belly ship feeling. This was kind of more forced. Plus the seating has changed and the table and chairs were terrible. Extremely short and not very cushioned. I walked out with the sore tush. I can't imagine being a tall person and sitting there. If you are a tall person, and decide to go here, sit at the bar. It was very cramped and uncomfortable. I understand the need to maximize the space to make a profit but it was a big turn off for us. Food wise. The street corn dip was delicious! I would recommend. What was weird was they offered a special that included food for 2, 3 or 4 people. But didn't change the amount to accommodate. So three tacos or sliders for 2 or 3 people six for 4. It was kind of weird. So split a small slider or taco? Why not offer a consistent amount per person? We were seated 15 minutes after our time. Which I guess it wasn't a big thing because I don't think they would've moved us out early, but when you give people time limits on their seating I would think it would be very concise. Overall, they were trying to be helpful, but we had to ask for our napkins, silverware, and plates. Plus had to ask for our tiny tables to be bused so we had room. The waitress told us we should come during the week if we wanted more personable service. I guess. Just underwhelming overall. The drinks were OK but nothing over the top and taste that I would make a point of going back to drink like I did with Undertow. A lot of the flavors were lackluster or couldn't be tasted at all. Ps the video with the antler creatures pauses next to one of the two tops on the south wall and looks like he has a very small worm shaped man part. Came back again for the Neon Tokyo experience and it was so rad! One side of the bar has soothing pink cherry blossom petals flowing down to the road and the other has a residential street lit up with bluish purple neon signs. Both equally beautiful parts of Tokyo (I imagine). The drinks this time were called Void, Air, Water, Earth, and Fire - we tried all except for Void but that's mostly because I'm not a bourbon girly and neither is my friend. All the drinks were tasty including the lovely platter of pot stickers we had. I would say my favorite drink of the night was probably the cat cup drink (earth), my friend had originally ordered it but liked my drink better (air) so we swapped. My wife and I were in Phoenix looking for a fun date night spot and this place was perfect. The atmosphere makes you forget you're in the desert--suddenly you're in a tropical getaway. The lighting and occasional thunder add to the vibe without being over the top. Drinks and food were both great and fit the theme really well. As the self-appointed king of speakeasies, it's important for me to maintain my crown by checking out new ones regularly. On a Saturday afternoon, I made a reservation for 36 Below in Arcadia. They have a parking lot in the back so parking was a cinch. Ambiance (4/5): 36 Below has different themes during the year. Two of them are Halloween and Christmas. The other two are wildcards. Before their current Aquatica theme, they had a Harry Potter-themed one. I'm bummed I missed it! All good, I'm always down for a tropical/Hawaiian themed speakeasy, too. 36 Below is located inside a coffee shop (Sip). There's a staircase that takes you down to the speakeasy. Unfortunately, it's very easy to find as there's signage both inside and outside. Which takes away from the appeal of a speakeasy's true nature. The seating is a bit uncomfortable, too. All good because the decor is fun. It's intimate, we're talking 25 seats or so, so make a reservation if you're visiting on a weekend. Service (3.5/5): For a small bar, the service is a bit slow. I had to wrangle our waitress to put in another drink order and to close out. You're also only seated for an hour and a half before your seats go to the next reservation (if there is one). It wasn't a rushed experience for us but something to take note of. The service was friendly even though it wasn't the most efficient. Food (N/A): I had food prior so I was on a liquid diet, but they do have light bites. Think things like chips and guac, truffle steak fries, popcorn, etc. Not a full meal but good if you want something to snack on. Drinks (4.5/5): Five or six of the cocktails were themed and the others were their regular cocktails. When you think of a speakeasy, you think of elevated cocktails. And this was certainly the case here. My first cocktail was a tropical-themed one served in a mermaid glass. My second cocktail, off the regular menu, was a gin-based spritz. Both had an interesting fusion of flavors. The creativity is there. As is the presentation. Well done. A couple of knocks on 36 Below, but overall, a solid speakeasy. I'll be back for their Halloween theme! read more
