I've been looking forward to having some cocktails at Highball. I was not disappointed. Highball is a chill bar with dark, moody lighting and brick walls. We had a reservation for 3 on a Friday night and I recommend doing that if going on the weekend. It was pretty full when we arrived at 8:45pm. The bar is not a huge place, there's an area up front with couches, bar seats, and high top tables along the bar. Main takeaways for me-- the cocktails are fantastic and complex. Really well balanced. I also appreciate the service was great, even with a busy bar. I love clarified cocktails and there were 3 options, our server was able to help me decide which one to try based on her descriptions and what I like. The menu is detailed which helps as well. My friend is vegan and she ordered the Living Color cocktail but she didn't notice the taro root cream, only after getting the drink and taking a sip, she realized due to how creamy it is. The bartender had no issue with making her a different drink that doesn't include dairy. But just know I'm not vegan, so down the hatch it went! I liked it as my final drink due to the desert feeling it has-- creamy and almost reminded me of an adult milkshake once melted a bit. During our time there, we ordered a couple drinks each, no snacks this time, we had already eaten dinner. Drinks we enjoyed: living color, passion project, quiet luxury, twig & berries, climate control, and a beer & shot. If you like to imbibe at a bar that isn't gimmicky, just great flavor profiles and spirit forward drinks come here. I'll definitely be back. read more

Just on the cusp of the iconic Willo neighborhood, Highball has become the successor to the swanky second-floor space that previously hosted Sidebar (and before my time, the original Lost Leaf). It maintains the intimate lounge layout, and serves up fun and unususal cocktails. What I love: A wide range of flavors from fruity and sweet to spicy and savory. I am a huge fan of their clarified cocktails, and the elote-inspired one (featuring corn whisky, creme fraiche, and a the kick of green chiles) was a blast. There's plenty to explore, and you should really indulge in the espresso martini shots. I do wish they worked a bit on the interior design, as the space has lost some of its charm. I also wish they had a little pizazz in how the cocktails are presented, as that's part of the fun in a classy libation. But overall, you should really consider spending some time here if you want to have fun while avoiding downtown crowds. read more

You walk up some stairs and the bar is dimly lit and moody - not super large, there's bar seating and a few tables then two large couches. We made a reservation for 8 on a Saturday and we didn't need one - got a little busier closer to 10 but it didn't seem anyone was ever waiting for a table. I got the smooth criminal which is described as a blueberry parfait - I loved it. Great balance of sweet and tart and some creaminess on top. Quite strong but not in the way sense that I only tasted the alcohol. My boyfriend got the Lip Service which is described as juicy and crushable - it tasted like fruit punch, my boyfriend was a huge fan! We were asked to move over one table so they could make a four top and got free shots - very nice since it wasn't a big deal to move. I got a passion fruit shot - so strong again but still tasty - and my boyfriend got a white tea shot. Great place! read more

The drinks were amazing but really disappointed with the food. We ordered ceviche and it looked like they gave us the bottom of the tortilla bag because they were all broken into small pieces. Was excited about the hot honey pepperoni dip but the pizza dough that they served was burnt. And the popcorn which should have been good was probably hours old because it was so chewy. Have you ever been to Killer Whale in Roosevelt row? Well this place gives me that vibe but in a classy form. They have moody lighting, couch seating, table seating (great for dates) and my favorite, the bar seating! We got to see the bartender in action and see all the drinks come out. One person even ordered the elote popcorn which was massive! I wish I got that. I ordered the Crazy Never Dies cocktail. This was very fruity and tropical... think lime, pineapple, grapefruit, tequila, rum, and more. It may have had the most ingredients. I enjoyed it but i wouldn't recommend it if you don't like fruity sweet drinks. Now the Tokyo drift was better! It came with a guava candy on the side and felt more refreshing and fruity. We got the Tokyo Drift, Book of Wei and Disco Panda and each was tasty and well crafted. Loved the Asian influence in these options! Friends got an Old Fashioned and Disco Panda. They have high tops, bar seating and some lounge seating with couches but it's not super big inside. You need to climb stairs to get to the bar so may not be the most accessible. Their menu is full of cocktails with complex and many ingredients, but the execution missed the mark. Trying to do too much with the cocktails, felt like it was a menu created by a novice. Also, asked for a knife with the meal (a sausage) and apparently I was the first person ever to ask for this as they gave me a plastic kitchen knife . Super strange. Expensive. Too loud. Too dark. And the cocktails made me annoyed I ordered anything other than a whiskey neat. - update: the snarky response is consistent with the experience there. Didn't think you were a steakhouse, experience doesn't equal skill, and it being "loud" wasn't at all to do with patrons. Good luck! read more

I am an atmosphere person, and highball absolutely has a fantastic atmosphere. With tufted leather furniture and a crystal chandelier, what more could you want? The bar is at the top of candlelit stairs. It's very cozy indeed! We have two great servers, and we ordered four cocktails. I'm not going to lie, I did actually order a drink just because it was served in a tiger mug. I looked around and it looked like there were a lot of those tiger mugs around, so I may not be the only one. We also ordered some popcorn, which tasted absolutely delicious. I recommend sitting at the bar so you can see the drinks being made and get thoughtful descriptions and recommendations from the bartenders. Still, their lounge area is cool. The overall look of the place is dark, sleek, and sexy-- great for a date. Prices are on par for a cocktail this good in downtown/midtown. wait. omg. this place is HANDS DOWN one of the BEST bars i've been to. my cousin's husband brought me here while i was in town last saturday (5/26) and i was blown away. easy parking access. did need to take the stairs up. standard bar , nothing special interior wise, cozy with the seating options if you don't want to sit directly at the bar. AMAZING staff. we had the honor to meet (i believe) one of the cofounders of the place and she was honestly the best: she was super informative and helpful in deciding which drinks to choose; especially with my cousin who is currently pregnant, they were able to create DELICIOUS mocktails for her base off of what she likes to normally drink. i normally don't like to drink that much because bartenders tend to pour heavy and the taste of the alcohol overpowers the drinks; however this place MASTERED it. all of the drinks paired well with the other ingredients and they all tasted absolutely amazing. and before you say "they probably underpoured", we physically saw them pour the alcohol and they were very giving, which means that they just know what flavors compliment the alcohol and created delicious cocktails & shots. we got about 2 drinks each and 2 shots each but wished we could drink more! unfortunately we had dinner reservations to go to but i HIGHLY recommend coming here and i can't wait to come back! we got the PTO shot and peach fernet shot, Yuz about it, Espresso Martini, Crazy never dies & smooth criminal; all phenomenal! read more

We came in on a Saturday night around 7 without a reservation. We were able to grab two seats at the bar. So glad we did! The bartender was super friendly and helpful when it came or ordering drinks.
