The cocktail list is awesome! I had the mutual interest! It was so good. We stopped by around 10 on a Friday night, it was def more date night vibes than mingling. The service was fast, the waiter was a bit snippy, but in a charming way?! The snacks were on point! My friend tried the glizzy, we had the elote pop corn and the hot honey pizza!! It came out charred - we thought that was a mistake... but it actually was really good. It was fun, but more intimate of a setting than I expected. read more

I've been looking forward to having some cocktails at Highball. I was not disappointed. Highball is a chill bar with dark, moody lighting and brick walls. We had a reservation for 3 on a Friday night and I recommend doing that if going on the weekend. It was pretty full when we arrived at 8:45pm. The bar is not a huge place, there's an area up front with couches, bar seats, and high top tables along the bar. Main takeaways for me-- the cocktails are fantastic and complex. Really well balanced. I also appreciate the service was great, even with a busy bar. I love clarified cocktails and there were 3 options, our server was able to help me decide which one to try based on her descriptions and what I like. The menu is detailed which helps as well. My friend is vegan and she ordered the Living Color cocktail but she didn't notice the taro root cream, only after getting the drink and taking a sip, she realized due to how creamy it is. The bartender had no issue with making her a different drink that doesn't include dairy. But just know I'm not vegan, so down the hatch it went! I liked it as my final drink due to the desert feeling it has-- creamy and almost reminded me of an adult milkshake once melted a bit. During our time there, we ordered a couple drinks each, no snacks this time, we had already eaten dinner. Drinks we enjoyed: living color, passion project, quiet luxury, twig & berries, climate control, and a beer & shot. If you like to imbibe at a bar that isn't gimmicky, just great flavor profiles and spirit forward drinks come here. I'll definitely be back. read more

Lots of fun in a comfortable space We visited on a night that Highball was unexpectedly taken over in a popup event associated with Arizona Cocktail Week by a bartender from Brooklyn. The event was outstanding. There was an interesting assortment of creative and reasonably priced cocktails and a DJ. We look forward to returning for the complete Highball experience! read more

Extremely good experience! From the music, vibe and the drinks. The drinks can be a little lower but they are complex enough to where I can see why they charge that much. The living color drink was my least favorite. The service was nice and not pushy which I appreciated. read more

The ambiance, decor, and drinks are amazing here. Great date night spot. It's small/intimate setting makes for great place to catch up over drinks with friends or for a date. The bartenders are super friendly and quick. I ordered the Yuz About It, and it tasted amazing. I highly recommend if you love midori sour and melon flavors. I'd definitely go back again to try others. read more

Tried out this place with friends after a comedy show in Friday night. My friend had reservations for 2 and because we joined last minute, we had to wait a few minutes for something to become available. We sat in a cozy area that had sofas and an intimate setup. The staff were really friendly and nice and even had great recommendations for drinks. They had some popcorn that was homemade that was really good according to my friend. It was definitely a nice environment and a cool chill vibe. A hidden gem that I will be back to experience again. read more

Very cute place near downtown but there's an actual parking lot which is wonderful. You walk up some stairs and the bar is dimly lit and moody - not super large, there's bar seating and a few tables then two large couches. We made a reservation for 8 on a Saturday and we didn't need one - got a little busier closer to 10 but it didn't seem anyone was ever waiting for a table. I got the smooth criminal which is described as a blueberry parfait - I loved it. Great balance of sweet and tart and some creaminess on top. Quite strong but not in the way sense that I only tasted the alcohol. My boyfriend got the Lip Service which is described as juicy and crushable - it tasted like fruit punch, my boyfriend was a huge fan! We were asked to move over one table so they could make a four top and got free shots - very nice since it wasn't a big deal to move. I got a passion fruit shot - so strong again but still tasty - and my boyfriend got a white tea shot. Great place! read more

Just on the cusp of the iconic Willo neighborhood, Highball has become the successor to the swanky second-floor space that previously hosted Sidebar (and before my time, the original Lost Leaf). It maintains the intimate lounge layout, and serves up fun and unususal cocktails. What I love: A wide range of flavors from fruity and sweet to spicy and savory. I am a huge fan of their clarified cocktails, and the elote-inspired one (featuring corn whisky, creme fraiche, and a the kick of green chiles) was a blast. There's plenty to explore, and you should really indulge in the espresso martini shots. I do wish they worked a bit on the interior design, as the space has lost some of its charm. I also wish they had a little pizazz in how the cocktails are presented, as that's part of the fun in a classy libation. But overall, you should really consider spending some time here if you want to have fun while avoiding downtown crowds. read more

So glad I finally checked this place out and now I know why it was voted one of the best bars in North America. So many cocktails with ingredients I never heard of. I went with Crazy Never Dies which was pretty tasty - grapefruit repo, sherry, lime and some other ingredients. The shrimp remoulade was very flavorful and you had your choice of chips. Of course I got half and half. A spicy chip and a lime chip. So crunchy and full of flavor. I loved the vibe here, very cozy and the bartenders were non-stop making drinks. read more

Have you ever been to Killer Whale in Roosevelt row? Well this place gives me that vibe but in a classy form. They have moody lighting, couch seating, table seating (great for dates) and my favorite, the bar seating! We got to see the bartender in action and see all the drinks come out. One person even ordered the elote popcorn which was massive! I wish I got that. I ordered the Crazy Never Dies cocktail. This was very fruity and tropical... think lime, pineapple, grapefruit, tequila, rum, and more. It may have had the most ingredients. I enjoyed it but i wouldn't recommend it if you don't like fruity sweet drinks. Now the Tokyo drift was better! It came with a guava candy on the side and felt more refreshing and fruity. (Tequila, rum, guava, rose aperitif, and lime). We just had one drink here and left to go to another. Overall I enjoyed it and there's plenty of free parking in the parking lot. read more

Hands down the best cocktail bar in the state of Arizona. And yes I say that confidently after visiting some of the best cocktail bars in the world. Highball absolutely nails what a great cocktail bar should be. The vibe is ultra cool without being pretentious. No reservations. No credit card deposits. No forced time limits. You show up, grab a seat, and actually enjoy yourself which somehow feels rare these days. The cocktails are outstanding, creative, balanced, and genuinely innovative without being gimmicky. Every drink is expertly made. On top of that, the staff is awesome, friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. This is how cocktail bar should be done. If you're serious about getting amazing cocktails and a great experience, do yourself a favor and put Highball at the top of your list. You're welcome. read more

Hands down the best bar in Arizona. From the moment you walk in, the vibe just hits! It is the perfect mix of energy, style, and comfort. The drinks are next level, Mitch and Libby have created an expertly crafted an extensive cocktail menu. You can tell the bartenders truly know their stuff and care about every glass they send across the bar. The crowd is just as good as the drinks. A great mix of locals and visitors, everyone relaxed, friendly, and there to have a good time. Whether you're there for a laid-back night or ready to turn things up, this place somehow nails both. Music, atmosphere, service all dialed in perfectly. This is the kind of bar you come back to again and again and end up recommending to everyone you know. Tasty innovative drinks served in a loungey space on the second floor. I've driven by here but never been to this spot in Central Phoenix til my friend visited from the Bay! We got the Tokyo Drift, Book of Wei and Disco Panda and each was tasty and well crafted. Loved the Asian influence in these options! Friends got an Old Fashioned and Disco Panda. They have a wide variety of drinks so you'll please any cocktail lover by visiting here. Food options are limited so if you want to fill up beforehand or eat after you'll be looking elsewhere as this is more like a lounge/high end bar. Note they do have drink minimums when they are busy to turn over tables faster. read more

Great cocktail selection. I definitely enjoyed the tartness and fruitiness of the goose chase drink. They have high tops, bar seating and some lounge seating with couches but it's not super big inside. You need to climb stairs to get to the bar so may not be the most accessible. A little slow on service but it was busy. I also thought the stools for the high top tables were a little uncomfortable. Overall a nice bar, but pricey cocktails at $17+. read more

I am an atmosphere person, and highball absolutely has a fantastic atmosphere. With tufted leather furniture and a crystal chandelier, what more could you want? The bar is at the top of candlelit stairs. It's very cozy indeed! We have two great servers, and we ordered four cocktails. I'm not going to lie, I did actually order a drink just because it was served in a tiger mug. I looked around and it looked like there were a lot of those tiger mugs around, so I may not be the only one. We also ordered some popcorn, which tasted absolutely delicious. We will definitely return to Highball! read more

Picked this place based on a TikTok list of "phoenix's best cocktail bars," and this was a total miss. Cocktails were basically undrinkable, despite trying four. Their menu is full of cocktails with complex and many ingredients, but the execution missed the mark. Trying to do too much with the cocktails, felt like it was a menu created by a novice. Also, asked for a knife with the meal (a sausage) and apparently I was the first person ever to ask for this as they gave me a plastic kitchen knife . Super strange. Expensive. Too loud. Too dark. And the cocktails made me annoyed I ordered anything other than a whiskey neat. - update: the snarky response is consistent with the experience there. Didn't think you were a steakhouse, experience doesn't equal skill, and it being "loud" wasn't at all to do with patrons. Good luck! read more

This is one of my favorite cocktail spots in all of Phoenix. Every time they've shaken up their menu, I've been worried I wouldn't like it as much, but I've never been disappointed. I tend towards funky, fruity, tiki drinks while my husband gravitates more to boozy, nutty, classic-inspired cocktails, and we both always find multiple things to enjoy. I recommend sitting at the bar so you can see the drinks being made and get thoughtful descriptions and recommendations from the bartenders. Still, their lounge area is cool. The overall look of the place is dark, sleek, and sexy-- great for a date. Prices are on par for a cocktail this good in downtown/midtown. They don't really serve full meals, but they have a small plates menu. All in all, Highball is worth going outside the beaten path of RoRo/the rest of downtown. read more

I had dinner with a friend and didn't want to quite go home yet. Saw this on Yelp a while ago and decided to check it out. An interesting mix of postgame fans and connoisseurs. Got seated at the bar and ordered the Saturday Night Special on a Friday night (Smokey Old Fashion) and watched as the bartender meticulously prepared the drink. Was going to go, but decided to check out one more beverage- the North meets South. Both whisky drinks were immaculate and mixed to perfection. wait. omg. this place is HANDS DOWN one of the BEST bars i've been to. my cousin's husband brought me here while i was in town last saturday (5/26) and i was blown away. easy parking access. did need to take the stairs up. standard bar , nothing special interior wise, cozy with the seating options if you don't want to sit directly at the bar. AMAZING staff. we had the honor to meet (i believe) one of the cofounders of the place and she was honestly the best: she was super informative and helpful in deciding which drinks to choose; especially with my cousin who is currently pregnant, they were able to create DELICIOUS mocktails for her base off of what she likes to normally drink. i normally don't like to drink that much because bartenders tend to pour heavy and the taste of the alcohol overpowers the drinks; however this place MASTERED it. all of the drinks paired well with the other ingredients and they all tasted absolutely amazing. and before you say "they probably underpoured", we physically saw them pour the alcohol and they were very giving, which means that they just know what flavors compliment the alcohol and created delicious cocktails & shots. we got about 2 drinks each and 2 shots each but wished we could drink more! unfortunately we had dinner reservations to go to but i HIGHLY recommend coming here and i can't wait to come back! we got the PTO shot and peach fernet shot, Yuz about it, Espresso Martini, Crazy never dies & smooth criminal; all phenomenal! read more

Highball Cocktail Bar, located in the midtown neighborhood of Phoenix at the southwest corner of 7th Ave and McDowell, may seem unassuming from the outside but exudes sophistication as soon as you ascend the stairs. Developed by Libby Lingua and Mitch Lyons, the bar's vision was to create a cozy yet sophisticated cocktail lounge with a "Big City" feel, prioritizing comfort alongside quality, intriguing cocktails, and an inclusive atmosphere. Our visit did not disappoint. Our first drinks were well-balanced and innovative: the "Heart of Stone," featuring flavors of bright Oaxacan mole with La Higuera Sotol, Milagro Reposado Tequila, Suntory Toki Japanese Whisky, blood orange, rasilla chile, East India Sherry, Highball blended amaro, and bitters, stirred and served in a mini coupe; and the "Saturday Night Special," a warm and woody, smokey tea old fashioned made with Lapsang Souchong-infused Rittenhouse Bonded Rye Whiskey, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Monkey Shoulder Scotch, herbal liqueur, and Palo Cortado Sherry, stirred and served short. There's a reason this bar is being recognized nationally. Highball is definitely on our list of top bars in the Phoenix area. read more
