What an unexpectedly fun night! I honestly had no idea what I was walking into when a friend told me I had to check out Bikini Lounge because they know I'm drawn to all things eclectic. They were absolutely right. From the moment the friendly bouncer smiled and said, "Step right on in," I was hooked. Yoooow!! The first DJ was incredible. He was spinning all kinds of trip-hop, indie, electronic, and remix-style tracks that had everybody partyin'. It wasn't your typical dance music, but every song seemed to connect with somebody in the room. The crowd was incredibly diverse, and it was so much fun watching people of every age and style dancing and nobody cared. The second DJ, a younger woman, shifted the vibe a bit and leaned more toward a younger crowd. It wasn't quite my style, so I took that opportunity to grab a seat at the bar and do what I apparently do best... chat with complete strangers. I'm a talker, and thankfully they seemed just as happy to strike up a conversation. This isn't some fancy cocktail lounge, and that's exactly the point. It's authentic. There were people dancing at the bar, grooving in their booths, bouncing in their seats, and filling the dance floor with great energy. I came by myself, and within minutes a cool group of strangers invited me to squeeze into their booth like we'd all come together. That's the kind of place this is. At one point they even offered me a glass of beer from their pitcher. I politely declined (look at me making responsible life choices... sometimes), but then I realized almost everyone had pitchers! So I sauntered over to the bar. I did have to wait a bit; apparently chivalry doesn't extend to letting a woman cut the line, but once I reached the bartender, the service was fast and friendly. Every trip back to the bar was the same. No complaints there. As the night went on, the energy just kept building. Before I knew it, I was on the dance floor sweating, smiling, and dancing with complete strangers. After a while, I had to retreat to the patio just to catch my breath before heading back in for more. My ankles are still sore... and the glutes? Fuhgetabouttit! The best part of the night wasn't the music or even the drinks. It was the people. Every generation was represented. Every fashion style imaginable. Every personality. And somehow it all worked. There was this genuine sense of joy and community that you just don't find everywhere. If you're looking for polished and upscale, this probably isn't your spot. But if you want great music, a welcoming crowd, zero pretension, and one of those nights where you leave happier than you arrived... give Bikini Lounge a shot. I went in not knowing what to expect. Absolutely dreadful bartender ruined our night here. She was totally rude, unprofessional and argumentative making our group resort to leaving after ordering just one drink. We were nice and civil to her but she just decided out of the blue to be hostile to us. Some of us had been visiting this place for years but never again. Who runs a business like this? Other issues: Can't use the patio because a group parks themselves back there all night playing their own boombox and using all the furniture. I really love this place. The ONLY THING is there's no way to lock the restroom door if you need to POOP. Both toilet & urinal are in the same room no privacy at all. That's the ONLY THING BAD about the place ( this is the men's restroom don't know about the women's room) other then that this is a place for great times talk to people who actually work for a living. We can't Comment much for the food, only because we don't eat there. I have been taking my Wife to Bikinis late afternoons & evenings to meet guys in the bar to have a few drinks with and play! Setting up at the bar dressed hot, talking with other guys has been a real turn on for her! The drinks are strong and priced very well! She tends to go there on her own in the afternoons when she gets off work, mostly to meet other guys! The bar has a great atmosphere, nobody bothers her other than guys wanting to talk to her, which is fine with me! The bikini lounge is a classic dive bar off of Grand Ave. Be aware they are cash-only and if they are busy they won't be making any tiki drinks. The bartender seemed to have an off night, but it is what it is. We had a great time enjoying the ambiance and drinking some cheap beers. read more

Came to this hole in the wall cash-only tiki bar while waiting for a seat at a nearby restaurant. It was a Friday night and aside from our group there were only about 4 others there. We ordered a mix of cocktails, beers, and shots and I got a dark and stormy from the tiki list. It was a cool enough dive bar, but it was oddly quiet. They had a jukebox that you could pay to pick the songs, but as soon as the songs we picked ran out the music went off and it was silent. This is a nice little hole in the wall bar that I stumbled across while I was going to see the Prince Mural. It has indoor dining seating (hi-tops and booths), bar seating and a modest fenced in patio area with a few tables. They have music playing throughout the inside. There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance. The bar is dimly lit and decorated with colorful Christmas lights. You will find a digital juke box here to get the party started, but they also have music playing if you did not want to select your favorites jams from the juke box. It is important to note that the bar is cash only, but they do have an ATM inside to get cash though. They have a wide selection of your tropical tiki favorites, which are my favorites. If was a tough choice, but I got a Mr Howell and Freaky Tiki. They were very savory, and did not last long. All of the bar's signature cocktails are $9, which makes it simple. The bartender was friendly. The bar seems to have its regulars and he was very familiar with most of the patrons. This chill bar is definitely worth checking out. read more

I am a Phoenix native and have lived here most of my life, but for some reason never got around to going to the Bikini until a few months ago. My loss! This historic dive bar is the best around. Bartenders Trista and Mikey are probably the friendliest I have ever met, and both of them recognized me after one visit. I love the down-to-earth vibe, the friendly crowd, and the low-price cash-only drinks and beer on tap. It is now my go-to bar for a quick stop or night out. I love tiki dive bars and this one has been around forever (since the 40's). Bikini Lounge is located on legendary Grand Ave in Phx. A group of us came by here for some drinks before a show and had a fun time here. Drinks are affordable and strong and are cash only (there is an ATM inside). The decor here includes tiki masks, wooden statues, and cool vintage paintings in a dim light setting. I personally enjoyed our bartender's fun witty humor while she was making our drinks. This is not some upscale fancy bar, but a great place to chill over good drinks and conversation with good music playing in the background. Bikini Lounge occasionally has a DJ and there is a pool table in the back. Heads up - the parking lot can be a little sketchy. read more

Starting to try several dive bars in Phx and we stopped here last Friday. It's a true dive bar, that is dark inside. Seating was good. We sat at a table with high stools, the booths looked tight for our group. They played 80's music -which we liked. The drinks were good and cheap. We tried the tiki drink, beer and vodka. The lady behind the bar wasn't smiling when we came in, but she warmed up to our small group of 4 and began to chat. It was really hot outside and we were sweating sitting inside. I think maybe they only had a swamp cooler and fans, but it wasn't enough to keep us cool. I would go back in the fall, but not the hot summer months. I can't do it. I can't sign on for the hype. The place is run down. The drinks, while tasty, are overpriced and honest to fucking God, there is no need to have a 'Card Everyone' policy. The music was raw and there were at least 3 or 4 sweaty goths out there, in addition to some guy that was channeling his inner Father Guido Sarducci, in full priest regalia, hat, glasses and all.
