My sister and I went to Gracie's Tax Bar earlier this week for a lighter decorating event in collaboration with Sissy Art. Neither of us have ever been to Gracie's Tax Bar, so we didn't really know what to expect. The bar itself is composed of a kind of tiny interior and a large patio with ample seating. The event was hectic and busy, but very chill and well-organized at the same time. It was definitely a crowd that was well handled. I also felt safe at the venue because they were scanning IDs and checking bags at the door. Regretfully, we did not try any of the food options at Gracie's, though we saw many other people enjoying it and it looked super good. The drinks were super reasonable prices and the crowd had such a cool vibe. We will certainly return. read more

Came here to rendezvous with an old flame and it was the perfect location for finding some trouble. Bouncer at the entrance was super nice. I told him I parked in a spot that didnt exactly look like a spot but was big enough and seemed like it would work. He grinned and said as long as you don't park overnight, everything will be fine. Bar is inviting and this place is definitely divey, I was about to sit down at the bar when approached on the other side, caught off guard, and there he was, handsome and hunky just as I had remembered him years ago. Place was packed on a Monday night and by 11pm, more people showed up. Reminded me so much of NYC. We sat down at the bar and bartender was prompt and helpful. I ordered a mezcal margarita and he had a wheat style draft beer. Conversation locked in sync just as we had been years ago, drinks went by quick and before you know it, it was time for round 2. He had a Jameson on the rocks and I went with a smoky mezcal on the rocks. He was hungry and ordered a chopped cheese, reminiscent of NYC but no idea if it was good, but he polished it off quick. Jukebox was playing and we both weren't exactly excited by the music, but sometimes good conversation and staring into the eyes of your former special someone drowned it all out. Needless to say, I will remember this place for a long time to come. We headed out into the warm Phoenix night, clear, dark and while not drunk from the drinks, I was intensely buzzing from what suprises would unfold, it always ends in trouble, especially with this all too dangerous hunky beefcake. This is a simple dive bar with great drinks and service. I love their back patio and it is a great place to hangout when the weather is nice. We always get their pickle chips and they never disappoint. They also have a cool old school photo booth! Come for the drinks and stay for the vibe. This was pretty much the only place in Phoenix that I had a good time in the week I was there. It is a dive bar, but it was rather pleasant and felt very safe. What a freaking vibe!!! On the way home from the west side Sunday evening, I stopped by for a beer and at first totally drove by it. If you blink you miss it, that being said I love the divey feel to it. I would say it's a nicer dive bar but staff was amazing, drinks were flowing and they were hustling food out quickly! This is a dive bar with cheap drinks. What more can you ask of it? This isn't the place to go if you're looking for something fancy or upscale, but they have a decent food menu and can do any basic cocktail. What makes it a five star review for me is the amount of events they'll host, keeping things fun and interesting. This place has a great concept, a fantastic space, and so much potential, but as other reviews have mentioned, some staff and regulars can be unwelcoming. Thursday, July - Karaoke: I attended trying to keep to myself and quietly write on my iPad. The DJ who played the upcoming Saturday called me a 'dub,' and a bar regular publicly said their night would be better if I left, repeatedly told others not to interact with me, and commented multiple times that I'm "always alone"--even though it was my first time alone, and I had been there with friends multiple times before. I hadn't said anything to him and was intentionally keeping to myself. A misrepresentation by one of their friends, whom I had been hanging out with for a few months prior, spiraled into ongoing bullying and ostracization, creating an environment where I do not feel safe returning. Saturday: The same regular was involved in a conversation led by another patron with white curly hair, continuing to ostracize me while I was writing in my notebook. Their actions seemed intended to publicly humiliate me, while I was simply trying to dance and write. I was mocked by staff and regulars, including being told I 'smelled like a narc,' ridiculed, and generally treated unwelcomely. At one point, security made a motion implying I was smelly; two girls sitting nearby thought it was directed at them, and security ran after them to clarify--without offering any apology to me. During the night, the DJ played a song twice as I was dancing and made comments that felt targeted and mocking, referencing circulating rumors created by his friend. My Experience: I had a year and a half of sobriety, recently drank for a few months, and as a neurodivergent person, I was not welcomed. The experience triggered my PTSD and made it impossible for me to feel at ease. The overall energy felt like a more dangerous version of high school drama, making it difficult to enjoy the night. Inside, it was shoulder-to-shoulder with people, and outside it was over 100 degrees while dancing. If I did smell, which my friend I met up with afterward confirmed I did not, I don't understand why security publicly humiliated me instead of addressing it directly. Conclusion: This environment may be challenging for neurodivergent or sensitive guests. Other patrons should be aware of these conditions before attending. Prior to this experience, I would have given this place 5 stars. All I wanted to do was sing karaoke, dance, write, and meet fellow creative people. I wish I could return to enjoy their great DJs, especially the live vinyl, karaoke, and cheese curds, or sit at the bar writing--but I do not feel safe coming back. read more

This place is amazing! We are from out of town and not used to the heat so this bar was a hidden oasis for us. Not much to look at from the outside, but that is good and keeps the touristy people (like us, for the most part) away. We did not expect this place to have what we walked into. Door from the street opens into the bar, which is way more than it looks like from outside. All the usual stuff found in a good bar there (good bartenders, good drinks, and conversation) and has a photo booth. Limited menu, but everything on it is delicious. Never heard of a chopped cheese sandwich before but had one and it is delicious! Fried pickles are great and wish I could have eaten more. To us, the real gem of this place is the patio outback. You would never expect this but lots of space, misters to cool you off, and the same great service. We are glad we went and if we ever come back to Phoenix (slim chance since it is too hot for us) we would make Gracie"s our go-to bar. read more

Gracie's is such a neat and unique vibe in Phoenix. I found it to be very welcoming bar and the staff to be very attentive and friendly. You cannot beat the prices of the food. There can be a bit of a wait if it's more crowded, but again the prices here are stellar so not too much to complain about. Welcoming happy hour! Our server at the bar was the best server I've ever had in Phoenix. My friend and I stopped by right when they opened and service was spot-on. There were already people in the building and the server was ready to serve food and drinks right off the bat. FYI the fried pickles were the best we ever had. They were slightly spicy and perfectly crisp. Usually fried pickles are soggy, but these were perfect! We were never left wondering where our bartender was, and he was attentive and ready to keep up with everyone's needs. Honestly I hate leaving a negative review for a bar, but am super disappointed after going to Gracie's today. The bartender was super inattentive, had to basically beg for a drink and kept forgetting our drinks when we did order them. More disappointing is we came after they advertised streaming love island on their social media every day, hoping to watch at a bar. There were multiple other girls there for the same thing as well as people calling to ask about love island, only for the male bartenders to answer the phone and then make fun of the people calling to ask about an advertised event. When one patron asked about love island, the bartender proceeded to talk about how it was dumb and he wasn't going to put it on, so we essentially wasted our time and energy to get bad service and not get to watch the show we came for. It is frustrating because it feels very much like this wouldn't ever happen if it were a group of men trying to watch a game at a bar. read more

They moved west of central into Grand Ave, and it's culminated with 7th - 15th avenue becoming the last stand for sincere locavore vibes. Order plenty of Fernet Branca--it's on draft! Order the cheese curds--it is literally the best bar food in all of Phoenix Catch a live show. Dance to the DJ, or at least put something on the jukebox. Bring your friends. Take photos in the vintage booth, or the bathrooms full of gratuitous graffiti. Play the crane game and win a plush. Give your prize to someone you care about and tell them that nothing good seems to last, but you'll cherish it while it does. If you want to attend a bar with the facade of "providing a safe space for queer people," this is the one for you ! I am a trans person who was harassed by one of Gracie's regular patrons for being trans. I was spit at, yelled at, shoulder checked, and put down. Gracies security did nothing, because it was a "he said she said" situation, and the witnesses who saw what happened could be my friends/cohorts. I have called the owner and voiced my concerns repeatedly, yet they do not take my concerns seriously. I have seen the spit guy multiple times since the incident, and security treats him like a pal/talks to him while surveying their zone. Thus, I fear telling security for MY SAFEY, 1. because the spit man is prone to being violent and aggressive and 2. Security is ON HIS SIDE !! Gracie's loves to perform as a queer bar, but does not provide safety for their queer and trans patrons. Just because their head of security is "non binary" does NOT mean they can make no mistakes towards their queer community. I shame the owners, especially miss Gracie, for being performative in their "protection" of queer people. read more

MY FAVORITE BAR TO HANG OUT AT! I LOVE the different types of themed nights here! I've never been one to go out dancing, but this place has great music and vibes and I want to keep coming back. Recently I went to a 90s Dance night, and this weekend will be Shōjo Nights Citypop/J-Pop Night. (Can't wait, I hear it will be a monthly night!) I have never heard of a bar playing Japanese music, how cool?! They also recently had a Queer Goth night! As you can tell, this bar caters to all groups of people. The inside has a nice ambiance with a bar as well as booths. There is red lighting perfect for photo ops. There is a photo booth ($5 cash) and a claw machine full of plushies! (Didn't check the price of the claw machine) They have an outdoor patio that is pretty large! The bathrooms are also fun with lots of graffiti, also perfect for photo ops and selfies. Drinks are cheap! I got a cranberry vodka for $5. Also they have a window on the patio that connects to the bar, so if you are outside and want to order a drink, you don't have to go inside. Amazing dive bar. But it's different. The inside is like a regular dive bar, but it has a nicer vibe than JUST a dive bar. And then their outside patio is huge and has a lot of tables to sit at. Really bad service and bad, cold bar food. We came here for a fundraiser on a Saturday night. Rolled in around 7pm and the place was sort of busy (maybe 10-12 people in the entire bar). It took us 15 minutes to get beer, and then another 40 minutes to get greasy, cold tater tots and cheese curds. Also, the worst cheese curds I've had (if that's even possible because cheese is life). We got the bill after we got our food and got the hell out of there. Would not recommend for anyone to go. Not the worst bar experience I've ever had, but definitely bad. read more
