This is such a swanky gem in the middle of a college row filled with sports bars and fast casual restaurants. My colleagues selected this spot for dinner while in town for a conference. We were setup in a separate dining area from the main dining room, which allowed for better conversation without added noise. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive the entire time we were there, which was a couple hours. The milk bread is an absolute must! It's so pillowy soft and the flaky sea salt perfectly compliments it. I ordered the Wise Decision cocktail, which was refreshing. For my entree, I had the shishito Caesar salad and was advised I could add a protein from their skewer selection of chicken, pork belly or oyster mushrooms. I asked the waitress about the chicken and she advised that they are smoked and will appear pink from that, so not to be alarmed, but are moist and really flavorful. While the filet was tempting (and what everyone else at my table ordered), I wanted something lighter. Thankfully I was not disappointed in my selection. The chicken was as delicious as described and could be cut with a fork. The Caesar salad was well dressed, but not soggy. Do I think it was worth the money to add the chicken? Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing and not worth the visit in my opinion. Almost everything on the menu seemed to have spice in it, which may work for some people, but it felt overwhelming. We ordered appetizers, several side dishes, and the tomahawk steak. The appetizers, bread, and sides came out quickly, but the steak took over an hour to arrive. By the time it finally came out, we had already eaten everything else and honestly weren't even hungry anymore. We each tried a piece of the tomahawk and ended up taking the rest to go. For such an expensive steak, it had very little flavor and was pretty underwhelming overall. Stopped in on a busy Mother's Day afternoon after a long walk to get some drinks. Place was absolutely crowded but room at the bar. Inside is truly unique blend of African safari, Aussie chefs complete with hats wood grilling tomahawks and tons of meat right in the middle of the restaurant. Decor is again rather unique with a mix of wood, soft furnishings, drapes, brass and stuffed exotic animals (which im sure are clever fakes) Josh at the bar was awesome, not just for me but extremely attentive and quick at delivery. Remembered drink preferences, even an unusual order i made which he delivered perfectly after serving 2 others who joined me. Everyone behind the bar kept my water topped up and the bar free of soiled napkins and empty glasses. Prices were extremely reasonable. Few drafts on tap and am extensive bar and cocktail selection. My bestie and I went here for brunch. We ordered some dishes to share: -Pibil Dumplings: The beef short rib tasted more like sausage, and the combination of red pepper flakes with pineapple tasted like pizza. Our server highly recommended this and we thought it was decent. -Cast Iron Brie: Melted brie with grapes, strawberries, and pecans. It wasn't anything special. -Shishito Caesar: Basically a caesar salad with *some* shishito peppers. I was expecting more shishito. It was mid. -Flat iron steak & eggs: This wasn't anything special. The steak was chewy although it had a strong smokey flavor, almost like bbq. The vibe at this place is really cool! Dress up in some fun animal print and enjoy a fun night out. The prices are a little steep but it's a nice place so it wasn't anything crazy imo. The menu had some unique options. We tried several things and all the food was really delicious and came out quickly. My only complaint is that the waitress boxed our food up for us and she didn't box up any of the cheese that came with the potatoes which was really disappointing since it was so delicious and there was a decent amount left. We literally drove by this place and I saw the name of the restaurant and I said we have to go there.! We came here for brunch on a Sunday and it was amazing! I love the ambience and the vibe and the decor. It's super chic and cool. The staff is super nice and friendly! The menu is super simple, but has a lot of great options! When you approached the restaurant, we were visually greeted with a 60s style cloth awning and as we entered the restaurant, our eyes were greeted with pleasant Safari style decor, and low lighting. We started our meal off with the edamame hummus. The hummus was delicious and I loved that instead of being served with pita bread, It was served with plantain chips. My flank steak was cooked perfectly. I enjoyed my arugula salad, but I do wish my french fries were not cold. I tried some of the chicken and pork belly skewers. They were also very tasty and so was the rice that accompanied them. The rice had a unique flavor. I believe I tasted a slight fennel flavor mixed in with the other delicious spices. Since it was my birthday, they brought out a piece of their birthday ice cream cake. I loved the cake on top with the ice cream on the bottom. My favorite part was probably scooping the ice cream up with the broken waffle cone that the cake was topped with. It really was a delicious birthday dessert. Sadly it wasn't GF so I had to live vicariously through their blissful bites -- but honestly, watching that cheese pull was its own experience. For mains, my husband chose the Lemongrass Half Chicken. Plot twist: when it arrived, the low lighting disguised the fact that it was quite undercooked (only reason for the 4 stars). Once we realized, the staff handled it like total pros -- kind, apologetic, and beyond accommodating. They offered to remake it or switch it out entirely. He pivoted to the Ancho Chili Glazed Pork Chop and OH. MY. WORD. If there was ever a silver lining to a chicken mishap, this was it. That pork chop was DIVINE -- juicy, flavorful, absolute perfection. I went with the Bomba Rice and it was STELLAR. Every bite was bold and satisfying. Whew my first dining experience in Arizona did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I came out for Valentine's Day and since it was my first time ever in Arizona, I was really excited to try the food. Safe to say it lived up to the hype. I ordered the Wise Decision to start and it was so good, super refreshing and easy to drink. We got the milk bread, tuna pineapple ceviche, and the Pibil dumplings and honestly everything hit. The milk bread was warm and soft with that perfect buttery pull. The ceviche was fresh and bright with sweet pineapple that made the tuna pop. The dumplings were flavorful and savory with just the right amount of spice. I also had to try the melted cast iron brie and wow. It came out hot and creamy with fruit and pecans and every bite was sweet, salty, and rich in the best way. My boyfriend ordered the white oak grilled chicken skewers and those were easily a ten out of ten. Juicy, smoky, and full of flavor. We didn't stay for mains because we had other reservations, but after that lineup we already know we're coming back for the full experience. My sister secured a Thursday Night OUTDOOR PATIO reservation at this always packed establishment on Mill Ave. The restaurant was lively, full of energy from the open air kitchen, and beautifully decorated! Filthy Animal is a play on words as it grabs your attention and makes you remember it. Please don't let the name confuse you, it is NOT organ meat. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. I feel the need to wear a safari pith helmet and khaki. The upscale lighting and artwork is stunning. We went with our friends who are mostly vegan and very adventurous. The menu can be meat heavy but the small plates are intriguing and have well thought out flavor combos. The evening was nice and our reservations early so we elected to dine outside. Our only issue was the misters were going so strong that water droplets can down like rain. Once notified, the restaurant shut them off. We had real intrigue with the small plate flavor combinations, unusual ingredients groupings and waitress suggestions. The milk bread with miso tomato butter, almond and kalamata was the first to arrive. The rolls were slightly sweet, pillowy and unbelievable when accompanied with the savory butter. I easily could of polished off two plates on my own. The heirloom tomato and spicy peanut dressing with onions, daikon radish, baby gem, whipped queso de cabra, mala chili and sour nut was a show stopper. It was not over-powering but kept you coming back for one more bite. A definite must try. The Taridito with yellow tail, grilled peaches, avacado crema, habanero passion fruit aguachile, and crispy quinoa was good but our least favorite. The tuna cerviche with grilled pineapple, leche de tigre, crispy quinoa and lightly salted long plantain chips were over the moon good. The sweet, salty and savory flavors were perfectly blended and memorable. Our final selection was the bomba rice risotto with shrimp, linguica, green peas, piquillo peppers, kosho aioli and parmesan was smooth, amazing flavor and warm to the soul. A truly incredible dish. It is difficult to express just how pleasantly surprised and absolutely tasty our dining was tonight. The name completely threw us off. A heart felt thank you to our female server and her suggestions. Filthy Animal is a new favorite dining space in the hip ASU center of town. All of us will definitely be returning to discover the rest of the menu. If you have the opportunity, make reservations and book a seat to a truly enjoyable evening of dining at Filthy Animal. It was a weekend of much celebration, and one of the highlights was our visit to Filthy Animal. The whole vibe is great. Very "jungle," but not at all cheesy. We sat outside (we East Coasters were delighted with a break from winter's grip and enjoyed the balmy AZ temps). Lots of warm firelight out there, and a lush, tropical garden feel. Service was ACE. Our server was friendly and funny and helpful. She took extra care of our diner who has a tree nut allergy and made sure our every need (and then some) was met. But the food. OMG THE FOOD. We started with the Pibil Dumplings and Fire-Roasted Bone Marrow. Both were amazing but those dumplings... WOW. We ordered a second plate because we gobbled them up so quickly. Around the table, we had the whole spicy lobster (our grad got this specifically because of the Korean mac and cheese, which clearly did not disappoint, but was blown away by the whole thing); I got the campfire branzino which was light, moist, flaky, and beautifully flavorful. Another got the lemongrass roasted chicken and was raving about it the whole time; husband--who never orders steak out because he maintains he makes it better than anyone else--got the bone-in ribeye (and the shishito Caesar salad) and his eyes practically rolled back into his head. He was floored by how good it was. The drinkers at the table were all more than satisfied with their cocktails (they had both Monkey 47 gin *and* green Chartreuse behind the bar, so what I'm told was a great "Last Word" was possible) and if you're sober, like me, the bartenders have an array of non-alcoholic options based on the flavor profile you like (e.g., spicy, garden, etc.) Terrific, and I wish more places were this thoughtful. I wanted to love this place. It had been on my list and we got a babysitter and everything. The decor is beautiful - but our experience was upsetting. We made a reservation weeks ahead for both the speakeasy as well as filthy animal. Upon checking in at filthy animal I reminded them of both of these reservations, and they took us back to the speakeasy. My sister did the same upon showing up 10 mins later. Then, 5 mins prior to our reservation we went up and reminded filthy animal that we were in the speakeasy and ready to be seated whenever the table was ready - they said they would come get us when it was ready. We waited, waited, waited.. finally it was FORTY FIVE MINUTES past our reservation time and we were getting frustrated so i walked up and said hey is the table ready it should have been 45 mins ago. The host asked the party name and acted like she had no idea we had been waiting for them to get us...... absolutely ridiculous to have no proper communication between your staff on shift or between your speakeasy in the back. By the time we sat town clearly we were already in a bad mood - tired, super hungry. The food was good but nothing memorable and our waitress was hard to find and they didn't do anything for our friends birthday, noted on the reservation. We ended up having to ask our sitter to stay later and pay her longer due to this mishap on the restaurant and overall killed the vibe. I've been wanting to try this place for a while so I was excited when my friend decided to have her birthday dinner here. The outside of the restaurant is beautiful. Here is a breakdown of my experience: -We had reservations for 9:30. I arrived around 9:25. I got checked in and waited about 15-20 minutes near the front before being seated. - They have a lot of vents right over the tables so just know it is extremely cold lol -Ace (the server) was good! He would disappear for while but the restaurant was packed so given how busy it was, I'd say he did a good job. -I got the summertime friends cocktail and my friend got the espresso martini which apparently has pineapple in it. She wasn't crazy about it so she wound up getting the same drink as me. The summertime friends drink was GOOD! Like, I'm still thinking about it lol -We got the milk bread for the table. 1 friend got the filet, 2 friends got the bomba rice, and 2 of us got the half lemongrass chicken which came with mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. The milk bread was good and so was the butter that came with it. Our only complaint was that it was super salty. A sprinkle of salt on top of the bread would have been fine. It seemed like they poured an entire container of salt on top. The bomba rice was really good and well seasoned. The chicken is where we were really disappointed. The mashed potatoes and carrots were good. The lemongrass sauce or whatever it is was good, but it literally was just on the top of the chicken. The inside of the chicken was not great. It lacked a lot of flavor. Marinating it would be a great idea. I didn't eat a majority of the chicken which sucks because it was the main part of the meal. It was also difficult to cut through so I am not sure if it was because the knives are dull or what because the chicken itself was not dry. The birthday dessert for our friend was the best part of the meal. It was pretty reasonable-- $60 for 2 drinks, half an app and an entree. Parking isn't on site and no valet so you need to know where to park. The Brie skillet could have used more fruit / strawberry tones maybe some strawberry preserve as it was bland and one note of the Brie. The pork belly stir fry was also a bit bland. Interesting concept and very cool decor! The miso cheesecake was dense and delicious, and the pibil beef dumplings were a winner as well! Our server was excellent and the view we had of the fire pit was pretty neat! My one tiny comment is that the cabbage could have used some more time to cook. The base was cold and pretty hard still. Filthy Animal truly impressed me the ambience deserves its own moment, gorgeous, moody, classy, and undeniably hot. The Summertime Friends cocktail was a standou , bright and layered with blanco tequila, poblano heat, grapefruit , pamplemousse, sumac, vanilla anise, and lime. For food, the lemongrass half chicken was packed with flavor, the chicken skewers were perfectly juicy, and the milk bread with miso tomato butter & kalamata was dangerously addictive. A spot that nails both drinks and dishes. A disclaimer for all vegan people not much options from them, the edamame hummus listed on the menu wasn't available, so we settled for the vegan ceviche, which was just okayish. read more

I've waited a year to try Filthy Animal and tonight we visited as part of our Dining Club. The ambiance is jungle/safari themed but very tastefully done. I absolutely love their open kitchen and next time I'm booking one of the tables that faces it. We had a reservation for 8 at 6:30pm. When we arrived we were told they were setting up our table and it would be ready in a few minutes, which gave us time to really take in the space. They do have a popular Speak Easy hidden inside the restaurant but the regular bar is beautiful, faces Mill Ave and hardly had anyone sitting there. We were sat within a few minutes and Amber came right over to introduce herself and take our water preference. A few at the table ordered drinks and raved about them saying they were delicious and definitely not lacking alcohol. We ordered a few appetizers for the table: Bone Marrow Milk Bread Dumplings Tuna Ceviche Baked Brie All of them were amazing. Bone marrow is one of my most fav things so anytime I can have it I'm happy but there isn't anything negative I could say about any of the appetizers. I'd reorder all of them. For my main entree I chose the Lamb Chops and good lord they were melt in your mouth delicious. The seasoning was perfect as was the cook on the lamb. It's served with succotash and baby potatoes (which were good) but y'all they could have come alone on the plate and this still would have been a delicious meal. Order it! Also at the table we had: Campfire Seabass Pork Chops Whole lobster Short Ribs Lemongrass Chicken Everyone raved about their food. The whole lobster is served with this super creamy delicious Mac and cheese but it's spicy so be aware if you order it. Everyone really enjoyed the evening here at Filthy Animal. I'll start with the positives: Our table was ready early for our reservation. We had a really nice spot kind of in the middle where we could see all of the decor and watch the chefs cooking. The decor of the restaurant is incredible. It is so pleasing to the eye it's kind of a moody vibe, lots of dark earth, tones, and metallics and animal prints. The serving staff was great. We had two servers because when was training, they gave lots of recommendations. they were very attentive, checked on us often really great service. I really like that you could see the chefs preparing the food over the open fire and all of that. They focus heavy on a lot of smoked items so at one point we saw people order a tomahawk steaks and they came out with like fire and smoke and all kinds of cool things so the presentation was really cool. The milk bread we ordered was phenomenal. All of the drinks ordered were really great. I had some sort of French 75 blend. I think it was called the Saint Laurent and then I just had a standard beer on top and then the two people I were with got mock tails for one person and a mascara and pineapple beverage of some sort they said their drinks were really good as well. Now for the cons: We ordered the smoked broccoli and it left a lot to be desired. It was too giant broccoli socks kind of dry. I wish they would've used broccolini instead I feel like it would've infuse the smoky flavor more. I ordered the smoked salad with two oyster mushroom skewers the food runner that delivered it kind of halfway set it down lifted the lid no real presentation which is fine. It's just a salad with smoke underneath, but the salad itself was just not great and in my opinion, the oyster mushrooms were very much overcooked. They were very tough and I think they were like $20 for two tiny skewers not really at all worth it. I can't speak for the other food that was ordered because I didn't eat it and I don't want to speak on their experience, but I know they ordered a pork chop, which was the number one recommended from the server and then also an edamame of some sort which did not get eaten just a few bites so that makes me think that it probably wasn't as great as they anticipated. The vibe of this place is really great. I just wish that the food was at the same standard of the decor and the showmanship. I don't think I would be returning, but it was worth the experience. read more

We made a 6pm reservation for 4 people for a birthday dinner. We arrived early to have a pre cocktail at the speakeasy next door then came back to the hostess stand to be seated at 6pm. The restaurant is dark and dimly lit which add a nice moody vibe. Joy and the other hostesses were pleasant and even offered to take pictures which was so nice. We were sat immediately. However, we asked if we could be sat in a certain booth next to the leopard and they said no as someone reserved all four booths. A little disappointed as the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived but okay. Just to point out, we dined for over 2 hours and no one sat in the leopard section which was a disappointment. Our server Nick was very friendly and offered some good recommendations on the menu. He was timely and we never waited or was rushed to order. Very nice. We started with a few appetizers including the Pibill dumplings which were spicy and delicious. The Cast Iron Brie. Creamy, Smokey and sweet. The Elote Asado. Very tasty and flavorful. But here's the thing. Why three pieces of everything? Why not four? For example, a nice size portion of the Brie appetizer with three small pieces of bread. Clearly not enough to finish even half the dish. Same with the elote. Three. Why not say, this comes with three prices would you like to add a fourth or more and charge a couple of dollars more. We ordered the Spicy peanut & Tomato salad for the table. It lived up to the name. Spicy and full of flavor. I ordered the filet and it was booked perfectly to the medium rare + temperature I requested. It was delicious. It came with chimichurri sauce, 2 small potatoes and a small salad. Very tasty. The others ordered the lamb and said it was delicious. For desert we ordered the miso cheesecake I believe. Delicious! Overall the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was very good. I would recommend for special occasions. read more

The food was so good and I was so excited to try it. I forgot to take a picture. The staff was very friendly and the waiter was very helpful when asked about some of the dishes. I really like the way the restaurant is decorated. My favorite is the stuffed Leopard that sat behind our booth. read more

I made a reservation on Open Table and only saw outdoor patio seating available which was a bummer because the inside of the restaurant is gorgeous and cozy. I check in with the host and as she walks me outside to the saddest looking patio, I notice about 20 open tables inside which I found odd! I was literally the only one dining outside and although my server was really nice I kind of felt forgotten. The highlight of the night was "Have you heard of Mezcal" and "Marked man" WOW those two drinks were amazing! But my favorite was the mezcal, it has a Smokey taste! The milk bread and the Pibil dumplings were great. The center cut filet was ok, I would've preferred mash potatoes instead of the two peewee potatoes it comes with. Overall my experience was ok but next time I'll call the restaurant directly for indoor dining. read more
