Dodo Bird Kitchen and Cocktails has been on my list of places to try for Happy Hour, Wing Wednesday, Oyster Thursday and Tomahawk night!! Let me start off by saying my first 2 visits were not the best. In fact, This place was sitting on a 3 star rating for a while, but my last visit picked up and made up a little. I waited to wrote this review in hopes that they would redeem themselves from my first 2 visits. The first time I came, I had Lemon Pepper Wings which came to me after a very long wait. When I finally got them, they were basically naked wings, like without any seasoning. I asked for the seasoning and one of the bussers came and brought me a cup of it. I sprinkled the wings with it but when I took a bite, they were SALTY AF!!!!! I then had to shake off all the seasoning to be able to finish them. SMH. I also ordered some Sweet Potato Fries which oddly came to me within about 3 minutes. I almost finished them before I finally got the wings. I was seated at the bar and since it was packed, I sat in the only open seat which happened to be between 2 gentlemen. The guy to my left was ready to go and when he asked for his bill, they had charged him for my stuff. Super weird because we clearly weren't together and I wasn't even talking to him the entire time. He kindly alerted them and they adjusted his bill. My second visit the next day wasn't any better. Went in with 2 coworkers for $1 oysters and Happy Hour. We ordered some cocktails which took forever again, and when we asked about them, we were told they didn't have the blended margaritas ready, so she offered us on the rocks instead. We said okay since we were thirsty on a Thursday. We tasted each other's drink and they tasted exactly the same, even though we ordered different ones. I also ordered a 2nd round of 6 oysters for myself which I never got. I had to let our server know that I never got them, so she took them off the bill. Our server wasn't very friendly and she just looked like she wanted to leave. My 3rd and latest visit is when I had the Tomahawk. My friend and I started off with oysters, then ordered their huge Tomahawk, which came with a variety of sauces and a side of French Fries. This time, we came in a little later, around 730 pm or so. It wasn't as busy, so maybe that's the perfect time to go. Service was great that last time, and our drinks were perfect. Overall, it's a cool place and the decor is pretty gnarly, but I feel like they do need to work out some kinks. Prices are average but Happy Hour is where it's at. The Tomahawk special is $99 on Mondays and Tuesdays I believe, and they come with 2 large sides (we went on a Thursday so we didn't get that special). The last visit brought up my 3 stars to a 4. I'll come again, but I hope they stay consistent! read more

Went here with friends and we had the 3 course restaurant week menu. It was very nice inside and it was pretty busy with lots of TVs which is nice The appetizer was alittle on the small side but the main course was great! Had the steak and frites and then had the butter cake that was good. Friends had the crème brûlée but they didn't like it. The main problem why it's not 4 is the service. A nice waitress with short cut hair was super slow. Drinks took forever and noticed the well with so many drinks sitting there for long periods of time. It was also hard to even see where she was to try and get her to help. There were also other little things like the food runners not knowing who had what didn't tell us what steaks were medium rare or medium so we had to ask and switch plates around but overall my rating is a 3.5 stars I sadly wouldn't come back but it has a lot of potential on being a long term establishment, goodluck! read more

Food: the chicken and waffles were good, I really enjoyed the chicken however I wish the waffles had been warm when they came out. Drinks: the main reason why we decided to come here was the dole whip mimosa but when we ordered they said the machine was broken. I ordered a watermelon mimosa and it was incredibly sweet but our server was nice enough to add a little more bubbles to help Ambiance: really cute restaurant Service: Ella was our server and she was great. The part that was disappointing was how long the food took to come out. It took around 25 min, way too long for brunch. Especially when they weren't full Misc: food was overpriced in my opinion. Also they charged $1 per side of ranch! That is one of my biggest pet peeves when dining out. Lastly there was a restaurant fee of 3%. Not sure what that was about. We came to dodobird after finding this spot on TikTok and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the steak frites,wagyu burger and spritz and received quick service! The food was incredible and the atmosphere was perfect for a date night. The only two things that stood out to us were that the music that played throughout the restaurant was very 2010s and after I had requested for a side of ranch with my fries it was forgotten never brought to our table. The Dodo is definitely a gem in this area. Its decor is beautiful and very intimate. There are beautiful paintings and pictures on each wall and the lights are super cute in the bar and eating areas. There are also lots of plants around to offer a balance of green and brown to the scenery. During our time here, there was a large party taking about half the dining area so the service times were impacted. We came in as a party of 5 with a wait time of about 20 minutes. This was totally fine since we did not have a reservation. During the wait, we partook in their game area which helped us pass the time. All the games were fun, free, and open! Our food was pretty good. I ordered the wings, Caesar salad, and broccolini. The wings were of good size and flavor. The Caesar salad was pretty decent, but the amount of lemon in the dressing was a bit overpowering. I was making pucker faces as I was eating and let my girlfriend finish the salad. She agreed that the lemon was much stronger than other salads, but she enjoys lemon so she was okay with it. I tried her Wagyu cheeseburger (happy hour meal) and unfortunately both of us felt like the meat itself was lacking lots of flavor. My sister ordered the OG chicken sandwich and she said it needed more sauce for flavor. I will confidently say my favorite food of the night was broccolini. The cook was perfect and the flavor was great! I would recommend that side to everyone! As I stated before, there was a large party during our meal, so service time was admittedly slower than expected and we had to remind our server to bring us spoons for our desert, for a to go box, and for a water refill. Since it was busy and packed, I understand it could be difficult so I won't judge it too harshly. I will say one of the food runners, Shaye, supported our table and was very kind and understanding when we flagged her down for something. She really made our experience that much better with her attitude and speed! Given all of the information above, 4/5. Improvements on the food would make it 5 stars for me. read more

Went back again for their steak frites special ($20 on Mondays and Tuesdays 3pm-close). We had kind of a large group (11) without a reservation (which we should have but it was not a planned event). They were able to accommodate us although the hostess was a little rude as we could've just went somewhere else if there was no room. All of us ordered the steak frites and a lot of ours had really big fat pieces so there actually wasn't much "meat." In comparison to the first time we went here, the steak the first time was much better. They also changed the chimichurri recipe which was needed and was really good this time. A few people got the dole whip boozy marg. They said it was a 3/5 as it was inconsistent drink to drink, ex: one got cherry, one didn't; one was more watery than another one. They said they wouldn't get it again. Overall it was a little disappointing compared to my first visit, especially with most of us only being able to eat half our steak. They also changed the plating to the wooden boards which were kind of warped so when we were cutting our steaks, it was shaking the table a lot. read more

I came here yesterday for the steak and frites $20 special. Personally I wasn't a fan of the steak but my friend got the same thing and she liked it. We both loved the broccolini, fries, sweet potato fries with truffles and the butter cake that they gave me for my birthday. Our server and the manager were great. Came for their streak frites deal on Wednesdays, which is $20 per plate. We got 2 and also a plate of the charred broccolini. The steak was a tad overdone but still tasty. The sauces provided were just okay, but overall the meal was solid. The broccoli was a bit over charred and over salted, but again, it didn't ruin the meal. We ate well. The restaurant was not super busy, there were empty tables around us, but we did not get checked on once, and had to ask a different server for our check, after sitting with empty places for 20 minutes. It was busy on wing Wednesday unfortunately but as to be expected. I saw several Instagram posts about Dodo Bird Kitchen and Cocktails and decided to give it a try--and I'm so glad I did. This is officially my new date spot with my husband. It's seriously that good. I started with the crispy buffalo cauliflower, which was amazing. I also ordered the "adult happy meal," upgraded the drink to their famous Dirty Bird martini, and swapped the fries for broccolini. The burger and broccolini were both fantastic. I also tried the tiger shrimp tacos--again, amazing flavor. My only complaint is that you only get three tacos with one shrimp each and no sides, which felt a bit limited. We finished with the chicken wings, and I have to say--even my husband, who normally won't eat bone-in wings, loved them. That alone says a lot. The only real downside for me was the martini. The taste didn't quite hit the mark, and the portion was pretty small for the price. Overall, the food here is incredible across the board, with just a couple minor drawbacks. We're in from out of town and chose to dine at Dodo Bird for one of our dinners - and I'm glad we did! We had a reservation and were originally seated under a vent that was blowing really cold air right on us. We were moved right away. They have a really cool cocktail book. There are photos of all of the specialty cocktails, along with the descriptions. It's like a soft leather booklet with embossed or stamped writing on the front. Just something different! Our server made some cocktail and food recommendations and we made our choices. Everything was delicious! The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the service was pretty sporadic. Our server was great when she was there though! A bit of time could go by without us seeing her. The vibe is cool! It also looks like a good place to sit at the bar and we'd probably opt for that next time. We'd more than likely go back when we're in town again! read more

Found this spot while browsing Yelp for a happy hour/dinner location during our most recent trip to Scottsdale. Their happy hour menu and daily specials, along with the awesome looking vibes, made Dodo Bird a must try for us! They are located in a strip mall with plenty of parking in front. Their signage is very prominent, and they have a chalkboard menu out front with their daily special and happy hour menu. There is also a large dodo bird statue by the door so you know you're in the right place! Once inside, you forget you're in a strip mall bar-the decor is chic but fun, with lots of plants and art, prominently featuring dodos. There is plenty of seating: low booths, high top tables, and a large bar in the middle with high chairs for close to 18 people. There are several TVs, and they seemed accommodating when people asked to switch to certain games. They have an electronic darts game, Pop-A-Shot, and a Skeech table as well. Their bathrooms are also super clean! The service was great right from the start: Monica greeted us and was quick to give us the rundown of how long they have been open, and her favorite menu items-she even made a point to ask what we ended up with and how our experience was. Our waitress, Bailey, was super attentive, gave us great recommendations, and was very patient with us as we snapped photos of our items. Onto the main event-the drinks and food! Here is what we tried: *DRINKS* - Hot & Bothered (Mi Campo Blanco, Ancho Reyes Verde, Watermelon, Lime, Agave): Loved this to kick off the night! Perfectly balanced heat and refreshing watermelon-I recommend having this before you eat, so it doesn't overpower the flavors. - Naughty by Nature (Grey Goose Vodka, St. Germaine, Strawberry, Basil, Lemon, Ginger Ale): This was delicious! Not too sweet, and the ginger ale makes it taste light. Will definitely order again. - Negroni Bianco (Gray Whale Gin, Luxardo Bitter Bianco, Lillet Rose): I've tried negronis in the past and they haven't been my favorite. This take was a bit different (it was clear) and it was good, but very alcohol forward. - Counterfeit Cantaloupe (Bacardi Rum, Watermelon Liquor, Orange, Lime, Fee Foam, Bitters): YUM! This was really refreshing, and the tropical flavor was perfect. Definitely order this! *FOOD* - Cauliflower KFC (Crispy Cauliflower, Hot Sauce, Dill & Buttermilk Dressing, Bleu Cheese Crumbles): WOW. This was by far one of our favorite iterations of crispy cauliflower. The seasoning was flavorful, the amount of breading was a perfect ratio, and the cauliflower was cooked perfectly; the sauces were also super tasty! If you only order one appetizer, let this be it. - Crispy Spicy Tuna Bites (Ahi Sushi, Spicy Aloi, Avocado Jalapeno, Rice Cake, Sweet Soy): These were decent; the rice was a bit crispier than I've had at other places, but the flavor was good. Be sure to get some extra sides of sauce for dipping. - Short Rib Chili Dumplings (Handmade, Beef Short Rib, Onion, Sesame Soy Garlic): A must order!! These pack so much flavor, and the sauce is an incredible complement. The short rib filling is moist and tasty. Seriously, I could have eaten another order with zero regrets. - Steak Frites (New York Strip, Hand Cut Fries, Peppercorn Au Poivre or Chimichurri): The Monday Special is $20 for their Steak Frites which was a great deal! This was a good entree to split-I only wish we had ordered our steak medium rare as it was more medium plus, but it was still yummy! We also upgraded to the Truffle Fries (Hand Cut Fries, Truffle Oil, Parmesan) and though they brought us regular fries, they quickly grabbed our truffle fries which were hot and crispy. Stopped by this spot in Scottsdale and had a really nice experience overall! The space is super trendy and thoughtfully designed. It has lots of fun details themed to the extinct Dodo bird. The cocktail menu is probably the star of the show! It has great visuals and names for each drink. I did not try any of these but if I did, I would have tried their take on a matcha espresso martini! They also have a couple of mocktails if you're not drinking. Our group tried a few different things including the Clucker Wrap, Chicken Salad, and I went with the All-American Wagyu Burger. Everything was solid! Great flavors and very aesthetically pleasing presentation. Burger was juicy and satisfying and the others at the table seemed happy with their choices too. I liked the onions and pickles. Only critique would be I wish there was some lettuce or tomatoes (I'm sure it probably exists as an add-on). Our server was attentive and prompt, checking in at the right times and making sure drinks and food came out smoothly. We've been here once or twice before but I didn't Yelp it. Overall, this place is worth coming by and enjoying a drink & meal. I was surprised how busy it was on a Monday evening. Didn't wait too long, about 15 minutes. However, food did take a while to come out. Their weeknight deals seem to be working on getting people in. We came for the Monday Steak out deal - steak frites (NY strip & fries) for $20. I decided I didn't also want a steak, so I opted for the All American Wagyu burger and fries. So glad I did! Loved the burger!! Really great flavor and it's a double burger which I wasn't expecting. Made it perfect for us to share both things. Although I didn't love the steak. It lacked seasoning, and I can't imagine it wasn't salted, bigger unfortunate thing is it was overcooked. We asked for medium rare, and it was almost medium well. And 2 orders of fries was a bit much, these are thick fries. If I had noticed on the menu other sides as options, I would have changed mine. Service was overall solid and I liked our server. Also, personally, yes please do leave a pitcher of water on the table. That way I don't wait long for more water. I wish more places did this. I enjoyed the Banana Old Fashioned from the brown & bold cocktail menu. We ordered a bunch of dishes to try: -dumplings -wings -chicken sandwiches -meatballs Everything was mid. The dumplings were decent. The wings and chicken sandwiches were unfortunately really dry. The meatballs were really mushy and the texture was off. My husband tried one of the cocktails and it wasn't very good. Sat at the bar on this trip and enjoyed both a frozen and on the rocks margarita. Both were good. Talking with all 3 bartenders throughout and mingling with others was a great vibe. To eat, I went with the All American Burger, which uses wagyu chuck I believe, with some classic fries. I added a few things like bacon and an egg with it, and it was good. I'd like to see some more fries come with it, as they were just ok. I don't think I got the best batch, more like the bottom batch of fries. Definitely planning to return as they do a lot of great specials throughout the week with food and drinks. This place probably has the best specials in all of Scottsdale. On Wednesday they have 50 cent wings. The wings were crispy and really big. I had the buffalo and the sweet chili. I wish the wings were cooked mower well done. Next time I will make sure I ask them this. On Wing Wednesday they don't allow you to take wings home. I also ordered the Dodo Slugger. It's a 20 inch hot dog. When they dropped it off at the table I started to laugh because how big it was. They toasted the bread so it didn't fall apart when eating it. The hot dog was all beef and it was good quality. I ordered a few cocktails as well. They had a banana old fashion that was really unique. Went to Dodo Bird after seeing some reviews and it was excellent. From the outside it looks like it could just be another strip mall bar, but once inside and the food arrived, it was clear this place was on a different, more well curated level. This ended up being one of those "how is this place this good?" experiences. *Service: the service was stellar. Ella was our server, and this was the second time we've had her, months apart, and she was just as wonderful both times. Super sweet, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. She was always there when we needed her, regularly checking in with just a glance as she walked by, but never hovering. It felt natural and effortless. I could not have asked for better service. *Food: the food was outstanding across the board. Shockingly good for what most people would assume is just a strip mall bar, nope, it's great. The onion bloom was gigantic and delicious. Deep fried, crispy, great sauce, and more than enough for four people to share. The $99 tomahawk steak was absolutely awesome. Humongous, cooked perfectly, well seasoned, juicy, hot, and already sliced for you on a beautiful cutting board delivered to your table. Not exaggerating, the bone was over two feet long. See photos. It was phenomenal. We went to a world class Brazilian steakhouse just days after this, and I would come back here for this tomahawk steak ten out of ten times before going back there. That's shocking for me to hear myself say, but it's absolutely true. We also ordered the "adult happy meal" and it was fantastic. An amazing deal that includes a double smash-cheese burger that was juicy, warm, creamy, Smokey and delicious, thick cut meaty steak fries that were seasoned perfectly, and includes a beer or well drink, all for $20. All the food was excellent. The short rib dumplings were another hit. Chewy dumpling wrappers, stellar meat inside, and a sauce that tied everything together beautifully. Every dish was fresh, well made, and built with quality ingredients. Nothing felt rushed or average. *Ambiance: the atmosphere is modern but very comfortable. Lots of little white lights that make the space feel dim, warm, and glowing. The restaurant wraps around the bar in a large U shape, with plenty of TVs and sports playing, and tons of barstools in the middle, but comfy booths on the outside. It felt energetic but still relaxed and easy to settle into. *Value: between the quality of the food, the portions, the great service, the pricing, and especially things like the adult happy meal and their happy hour offerings, the value here is excellent. I left feeling like what we got far exceeded what we paid. *Overall: this place is outstanding. Incredible service, warm and comfortable atmosphere, and outstanding food across the board. The fact that this exists in a strip mall is almost unbelievable. I want to come back over and over just to work my way through their menu and all their specials. The restaurant was a little difficult to find because the outside sign only says "Kitchen + Cocktails," so keep an eye out if it's your first visit. My husband ordered the steak and fries, and I had the broccolini. The brocollini was AMAZING-- the best I've ever had! Everything we ordered was delicious, and we enjoyed our dinner. We did order a side of buffalo sauce and ranch, which came in very small cups. Both sauces together were an additional $3, which I thought was pretty excessive considering the amount we received. The inside is super cute with a modern vibe and I love the little touches of bird cages and fun decor. Sometimes they have a DJ going which creates a nice upbeat vibe. Went here for a date night. The ambiance is newer and more modern but it was also very dark inside. We both ordered the steak frites. Both plates were very fatty on the meat making about half of it inedible. For the prices here it was rather disappointing. Had an excellent time dining there and everyone were very cool. Just two disappointing things when ordering the steak and frites... 1.) Their steaks are epic. But their fries...they were great how they had it and instead they used McDonalds french fries all because one waiter said "it just takes two minutes". Yeah, that doesn't do much favor when you want a steak and frites to be called steak and FRITES. Please go back to what you had. Sauce is still delicious. 2.) They used motherfucking generated AI prompt slop for one of their menu and what they were advertising that it ruined it the same night I went there just from having the good fries they had to slop fries. This place is cool and vibey for the locals for sure. I only don't give it five stars because when we went, they were out of everything so it's probably a five out of five and the food was delicious but we weren't able to get some of the stuff we were looking for because they were sold out - service was great though. We had the best time with Bailey keeping our drinks fresh and our oysters in circulation! The room was busy but not noisy, and it was a really fantastic happy hour. Where do I even start--the wait, the service, or the food? After years of coming here, it's obvious new management has completely ruined this place. We had reservations for two, yet the hostess seemed clueless that reservations even existed. We watched multiple parties get seated before us while we waited at the bar. Both bartenders were rude and acted like ordering a simple beer was an inconvenience. When the food finally arrived, my steak was mostly fat, and the margarita was one of the worst I've ever had. The entire staff gave off an attitude that they simply don't care. Service is nonexistent, food quality has gone downhill, and management has clearly lost control. Scottsdale has too many great restaurants to waste your time and money here. We won't be back. read more
