So, if you've seen this place on Instagram and you actually think it might be good, it is. We too, we were influenced. Does it look like a spot for a bachelorette party? Sure. But look past it and you'll be fine. The adult happy meal is a really great deal. If you're looking for something to please everyone. We had great service throughout the dinner and our water glasses were never empty. One of our parties ordered the grilled chicken wrap that can EASILY serve two people. This place has a fun chill hipster vibe and is a great place to go especially if you plan on having a couple of drinks. The service was good and our server was friendly. It was busy on wing Wednesday unfortunately but as to be expected. Taste: 7/10 Value: 7/10 Ambiance: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Cleanliness: 8/10 Overall I probably would not want to go back but I did not have a bad experience by any means. I saw several Instagram posts about Dodo Bird Kitchen and Cocktails and decided to give it a try--and I'm so glad I did. This is officially my new date spot with my husband. It's seriously that good. I started with the crispy buffalo cauliflower, which was amazing. I also ordered the "adult happy meal," upgraded the drink to their famous Dirty Bird martini, and swapped the fries for broccolini. The burger and broccolini were both fantastic. I also tried the tiger shrimp tacos--again, amazing flavor. My only complaint is that you only get three tacos with one shrimp each and no sides, which felt a bit limited. We finished with the chicken wings, and I have to say--even my husband, who normally won't eat bone-in wings, loved them. That alone says a lot. The only real downside for me was the martini. The taste didn't quite hit the mark, and the portion was pretty small for the price. Overall, the food here is incredible across the board, with just a couple minor drawbacks. The food was truly delicious and the waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. We got the Tuesday night Steak and Frits. That said, the wait time for our food was over an hour, which was not acceptable. When we spoke with the manager, he explained that one of their ovens had broken earlier in the day, contributing to the delay. While we understand that unexpected issues happen, it would have been helpful to be informed upon arrival so we could have made an informed decision about staying. To their credit, the manager did offer a $10 discount off the total bill due to the long wait, turned out to be around 10 percent off the bill. Despite the delay, we would still recommend the restaurant for the quality of the food and service, and would consider returning in the future with the hope of a smoother experience. read more

We're in from out of town and chose to dine at Dodo Bird for one of our dinners - and I'm glad we did! We had a reservation and were originally seated under a vent that was blowing really cold air right on us. We were moved right away. They have a really cool cocktail book. There are photos of all of the specialty cocktails, along with the descriptions. It's like a soft leather booklet with embossed or stamped writing on the front. Just something different! Our server made some cocktail and food recommendations and we made our choices. Everything was delicious! The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the service was pretty sporadic. Our server was great when she was there though! A bit of time could go by without us seeing her. The vibe is cool! Found this spot while browsing Yelp for a happy hour/dinner location during our most recent trip to Scottsdale. Their happy hour menu and daily specials, along with the awesome looking vibes, made Dodo Bird a must try for us! They are located in a strip mall with plenty of parking in front. Their signage is very prominent, and they have a chalkboard menu out front with their daily special and happy hour menu. There is also a large dodo bird statue by the door so you know you're in the right place! Once inside, you forget you're in a strip mall bar-the decor is chic but fun, with lots of plants and art, prominently featuring dodos. There is plenty of seating: low booths, high top tables, and a large bar in the middle with high chairs for close to 18 people. There are several TVs, and they seemed accommodating when people asked to switch to certain games. They have an electronic darts game, Pop-A-Shot, and a Skeech table as well. Their bathrooms are also super clean! The service was great right from the start: Monica greeted us and was quick to give us the rundown of how long they have been open, and her favorite menu items-she even made a point to ask what we ended up with and how our experience was. Our waitress, Bailey, was super attentive, gave us great recommendations, and was very patient with us as we snapped photos of our items. Onto the main event-the drinks and food! Here is what we tried: *DRINKS* - Hot & Bothered (Mi Campo Blanco, Ancho Reyes Verde, Watermelon, Lime, Agave): Loved this to kick off the night! Perfectly balanced heat and refreshing watermelon-I recommend having this before you eat, so it doesn't overpower the flavors. - Naughty by Nature (Grey Goose Vodka, St. Germaine, Strawberry, Basil, Lemon, Ginger Ale): This was delicious! Not too sweet, and the ginger ale makes it taste light. Will definitely order again. - Negroni Bianco (Gray Whale Gin, Luxardo Bitter Bianco, Lillet Rose): I've tried negronis in the past and they haven't been my favorite. This take was a bit different (it was clear) and it was good, but very alcohol forward. - Counterfeit Cantaloupe (Bacardi Rum, Watermelon Liquor, Orange, Lime, Fee Foam, Bitters): YUM! This was really refreshing, and the tropical flavor was perfect. Definitely order this! *FOOD* - Cauliflower KFC (Crispy Cauliflower, Hot Sauce, Dill & Buttermilk Dressing, Bleu Cheese Crumbles): WOW. This was by far one of our favorite iterations of crispy cauliflower. The seasoning was flavorful, the amount of breading was a perfect ratio, and the cauliflower was cooked perfectly; the sauces were also super tasty! If you only order one appetizer, let this be it. - Crispy Spicy Tuna Bites (Ahi Sushi, Spicy Aloi, Avocado Jalapeno, Rice Cake, Sweet Soy): These were decent; the rice was a bit crispier than I've had at other places, but the flavor was good. Be sure to get some extra sides of sauce for dipping. - Short Rib Chili Dumplings (Handmade, Beef Short Rib, Onion, Sesame Soy Garlic): A must order!! These pack so much flavor, and the sauce is an incredible complement. The short rib filling is moist and tasty. Seriously, I could have eaten another order with zero regrets. - Steak Frites (New York Strip, Hand Cut Fries, Peppercorn Au Poivre or Chimichurri): The Monday Special is $20 for their Steak Frites which was a great deal! This was a good entree to split-I only wish we had ordered our steak medium rare as it was more medium plus, but it was still yummy! We also upgraded to the Truffle Fries (Hand Cut Fries, Truffle Oil, Parmesan) and though they brought us regular fries, they quickly grabbed our truffle fries which were hot and crispy. The truffle oil was prominent, but not over-powering. Big thanks again to Bailey, Monica, and the whole team for a delightful first experience at Dodo Bird! Stopped by this spot in Scottsdale and had a really nice experience overall! The space is super trendy and thoughtfully designed. It has lots of fun details themed to the extinct Dodo bird. The cocktail menu is probably the star of the show! It has great visuals and names for each drink. I did not try any of these but if I did, I would have tried their take on a matcha espresso martini! They also have a couple of mocktails if you're not drinking. Our group tried a few different things including the Clucker Wrap, Chicken Salad, and I went with the All-American Wagyu Burger. Everything was solid! Great flavors and very aesthetically pleasing presentation. Burger was juicy and satisfying and the others at the table seemed happy with their choices too. I liked the onions and pickles. Only critique would be I wish there was some lettuce or tomatoes (I'm sure it probably exists as an add-on). We ordered a bunch of dishes to try: -dumplings -wings -chicken sandwiches -meatballs Everything was mid. The dumplings were decent. The wings and chicken sandwiches were unfortunately really dry. The meatballs were really mushy and the texture was off. My husband tried one of the cocktails and it wasn't very good. We came for the Monday Steak out deal - steak frites (NY strip & fries) for $20. I decided I didn't also want a steak, so I opted for the All American Wagyu burger and fries. So glad I did! Loved the burger!! Really great flavor and it's a double burger which I wasn't expecting. Made it perfect for us to share both things. Although I didn't love the steak. It lacked seasoning, and I can't imagine it wasn't salted, bigger unfortunate thing is it was overcooked. We asked for medium rare, and it was almost medium well. And 2 orders of fries was a bit much, these are thick fries. If I had noticed on the menu other sides as options, I would have changed mine. Service was overall solid and I liked our server. Also, personally, yes please do leave a pitcher of water on the table. That way I don't wait long for more water. I wish more places did this. Ambiance, service & food was great. Perfect meeting mid-week with a good friend to catch up and enjoy a good meal & conversation. Sat at the bar on this trip and enjoyed both a frozen and on the rocks margarita. Both were good. Talking with all 3 bartenders throughout and mingling with others was a great vibe. To eat, I went with the All American Burger, which uses wagyu chuck I believe, with some classic fries. I added a few things like bacon and an egg with it, and it was good. I'd like to see some more fries come with it, as they were just ok. I don't think I got the best batch, more like the bottom batch of fries. Definitely planning to return as they do a lot of great specials throughout the week with food and drinks. Went to Dodo Bird after seeing some reviews and it was excellent. From the outside it looks like it could just be another strip mall bar, but once inside and the food arrived, it was clear this place was on a different, more well curated level. This ended up being one of those "how is this place this good?" experiences. *Service: the service was stellar. Ella was our server, and this was the second time we've had her, months apart, and she was just as wonderful both times. Super sweet, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. She was always there when we needed her, regularly checking in with just a glance as she walked by, but never hovering. It felt natural and effortless. I could not have asked for better service. *Food: the food was outstanding across the board. Shockingly good for what most people would assume is just a strip mall bar, nope, it's great. The onion bloom was gigantic and delicious. Deep fried, crispy, great sauce, and more than enough for four people to share. The $99 tomahawk steak was absolutely awesome. Humongous, cooked perfectly, well seasoned, juicy, hot, and already sliced for you on a beautiful cutting board delivered to your table. Not exaggerating, the bone was over two feet long. See photos. It was phenomenal. We went to a world class Brazilian steakhouse just days after this, and I would come back here for this tomahawk steak ten out of ten times before going back there. That's shocking for me to hear myself say, but it's absolutely true. We also ordered the "adult happy meal" and it was fantastic. An amazing deal that includes a double smash-cheese burger that was juicy, warm, creamy, Smokey and delicious, thick cut meaty steak fries that were seasoned perfectly, and includes a beer or well drink, all for $20. All the food was excellent. The short rib dumplings were another hit. Chewy dumpling wrappers, stellar meat inside, and a sauce that tied everything together beautifully. Every dish was fresh, well made, and built with quality ingredients. Nothing felt rushed or average. *Ambiance: the atmosphere is modern but very comfortable. Lots of little white lights that make the space feel dim, warm, and glowing. The restaurant wraps around the bar in a large U shape, with plenty of TVs and sports playing, and tons of barstools in the middle, but comfy booths on the outside. It felt energetic but still relaxed and easy to settle into. *Value: between the quality of the food, the portions, the great service, the pricing, and especially things like the adult happy meal and their happy hour offerings, the value here is excellent. I left feeling like what we got far exceeded what we paid. *Overall: this place is outstanding. Incredible service, warm and comfortable atmosphere, and outstanding food across the board. The fact that this exists in a strip mall is almost unbelievable. I want to come back over and over just to work my way through their menu and all their specials. I didn't know what to try at first. It all looked delicious...and thanks to instagram and sometimes being out in Scottsdale..I figured, why not...and this was why...the food and drinks were superb. I've been to Dodo a couple of times now for happy hour and brunch since moving so close by and it's always a great time. The inside is super cute with a modern vibe and I love the little touches of bird cages and fun decor. Sometimes they have a DJ going which creates a nice upbeat vibe. The prices are reasonable especially during happy hour or on their bottomless drinks. Food wise I'm in love with their Buffalo cauliflower & spicy tuna crispy rice. This time I got the tomahawk steak...so good and comes with two special sauces. I used both! It's also paired with greens and fries. They are known for their butter cake....wow, makes my mouth water. Had a perfect crust on the bottom. Topped with ice cream and whipped cream. The service was extremely upbeat and answered any question I had. The ambiance is shocking, as it's in a little plaza but once you go inside you're transformed to a cute restaurant that's aesthetically pleasing! It's got roomie tables that's half a booth and half normal seating. The bar was very specious and offer side seating. Ordered an old fashioned smoked, which was mediocre at best and wasn't smoked as ordered. 2nd round of drinks were martinis and they pretty much were straight olive juice. Stopped in after seeing a few videos of this place online. We came right before the lunch menu started so we went with brunch which overall was a mistake. The French toast was made with thin cheap bread with resulted with it being soggy. The breakfast burrito was all potatoes including some weird purple pieces even though the potatoes weren't purple. First off this was a blind pick after arriving in Scottsdale. Pulling up to this place in a strip mall both me and my wife were a little hesitant. But as soon as we opened the door, we were very pleasantly surprised. It had a great vibe just walking through the door. Medium low lit, music pumping(but not too loud), beautiful decors throughout. We were seated ordered a couple of the specialty drinks. Both were delicious and beautiful. Our server, I wish I remembered her name was out of this world. Very friendly and knowledgeable, she just fit into the environment . We proceeded forward with wings(which wing Wednesday 6 for $4), bulgogi bao buns, and steak frites. All were fantastic. The only criticism is that though the bao buns were delicious, they did not fully check on the contents and each of the three had a big piece of gristle mixed among the meat. Either way we're only on day two of our 6 day trip and we've already considered making a second appearance here. So far the best place we've ate at(and we're already at half a dozen spots). Dinner for my sister's birthday was great! We ordered glasses of wine from happy hour and an order of the short rib dumplings which was first and really good. Monday is 32oz Tomahawk special of $99 with a salad, two sides, and a dessert. What a great deal. The food was so good. I ordered the fries and brocolini for the sides which were both cooked perfectly. They ha e fresh cut fries which I love. The Tomahawk was cooked medium well like we asked. The butter cake was ok. It was a little too dense but the ice cream was good. The staff and Jamie the GM were great. The ambiance was pretty chill at first but got a little more lively after about an hour when more people showed up. I especially appreciate the daily specials they offer that match the quality and quantity of food. I will be making my way back sooner than later. read more

This place was horrible We came here because of a review... big mistake. There are FAR better spots to get a burger. Fries with cheese and bacon? Fires limp. Cheese tasted like something you'd get at a movie theater, bacon was clumped on top. Wagyu burger? Overcooked. I usually love dodo bird, I stopped in today for bite to eat when I was running errands around the end of happy hour because I live on cusp of old town and and south Scottsdale. I've lived in this neighborhood for near 13 years. The ambience was great, quiet and chill like usual. I sat on the bar and asked the bartender if they took Apple Pay he said yes , that answered my question. He handed me a food menu without handing me a drink menu , which was fine because I ordered an ice tea. When he came back I ordered Parmesan truffle fries he immediately asked if I wanted them to go which seemed weird because I just ordered an ice tea which had not come yet, I said no I wanted them for here. My fries came and someone walked over with my iced tea. Which was weird because I didn't get a water immediately either. He asked if I was ok more times than usual, I finished my fries and my iced tea and he asked if I wanted anything else. I said I wanted another iced tea which he replied would be another five dollars so I got another water relaxed for minute and then got my check. The whole experience seemed a little rushed and rude. I definitely didn't look disheveled and I wanted something to eat before I went over to cvs and walked home. The fries were good and so was the iced tea. I go to rt osulivans all the time and I wanted a more upscale change of pace. For someplace that is supposed to cater to the neighborhood outside old town it was a little unfriendly. read more

It's in a strip mall, so away from the craziness of Old Town Scottsdale BUT as soon as you walk in, it's still giving great vibes. We started with cocktails -- mine (Espresso not Expresso) was decent at first but had a salty, gritty aftertaste after a few sips. Since it was a Monday, we tried their Steak Out Mondays special -- a New York strip and fries for $20. While the price was great and the seasoning on both the steak and fries was spot-on, we asked for medium well and both steaks came out closer to well/well-done with no pink in sight. Service was okay but could've been a bit warmer and more engaged. What really disappointed us was the missed birthday moment. Even though I added the birthday note when booking, no one acknowledged it beyond the hostess. When we ordered dessert (the butter cake) we asked if they had candles. The server asked, "Whose birthday is it?" which just made it clear the special occasion wasn't really being considered. In a competitive area like Scottsdale, where there are so many exciting dining options, the little touches can make a huge difference. We chose Dodo Bird because we were genuinely excited to try it, and while it wasn't a bad experience, it didn't quite meet our expectations. It wasn't a bad night, but it wasn't memorable either. We ordered the Dumplings, the impressive Tomahawk for Two, and the sides were the simple greens salad, charred broccolini, almost forgot to mention the chimichurri sauce (accompanies the steak), and the fresh cut fries (y'all know how I feel about fresh cut fries). Everything was absolutely delicious! This meal truly set a high bar. Visits 2 and 3 (Major Dip): My next two visits were a letdown. On the second trip, I tried the Nashville Chicken Sandwich. It was not my cup of tea; it lacked the expected Nashville flavor and just tasted like a generic, non-Nashville sandwich. Worse, the fries were noticeably undercooked. On the third visit, I ordered the wings, and the flavor issue persisted, there was no real taste to the wings or the accompanying sauce. And shockingly, I had to send the fries back again because they were undercooked, just like the time before. The Verdict: Dodo Bird has tremendous potential because the ambiance is top-notch and the kitchen has proven it can produce incredible food (hello, Tomahawk!). However, repeating the same quality issues across different dishes and failing on a simple side like fries twice suggests a real problem with execution standards. We are a regular at this complex and so happy that this restaurant has opened here. The dumplings are delicious with tasty and salty sauce. They are not spicy at all. Croissant Caesar sandwich sounds like a great combination but it is ok. The chicken in the sandwich is crunchy good. The fried ice cream is so good and I want to get some more. They can open the windows to get some cool air from outside. They made their restaurant smells lovely like a flower field. Parking is easy to find. read more

This place was very empty when we first got here for our brunch. A lot of my friends ordered the bottomless drinks which sounded like a great deal. I just got a mocktail and it was so good!!
