I've been coming to Pinyon since it opened but have sat at the bar 90% of the time. I finally was seated at a table due to having many in our party and that's what got me to write this review. Don't get me wrong, all the bartenders are fantastic, but our waiter Jordan was an absolute standout. The food and vibe was amazing as usual, it was the service the really set this time visiting apart. Jordan took his time explaining to anyone who had never been the menu items and answered everyone's questions with impressive knowledge. On top of being on his knowledge game, he was extremely attentive and handled our table of 7 with ease all while having a full section. He made our dinner so fun, being playful but without skipping a beat on his work duties. You could tell the other tables were enjoying him as well. As mentioned, the food was wonderful per usual, you can never go wrong with their raw bar. Extremely fresh and tasty. I will continue to frequent Pinyon, and I now will probably skip the bar and ask to be seated in Jordan's section any chance I get. read more

Had my birthday dinner here and I couldn't have picked a better place! We sat at the bar upstairs and service was excellent. It was busy but didn't feel over packed. We got the filet hummus and the pita bread , it was delicious. Tons of flavor and good portion. The pitas and hummus is a must! 10/10! The shrimp ant risotto was also very good cooked perfectly. The baklava cheesecake is the best I am so glad we got it I am not a fan of sweets but this is just the perfect balance. They were sweet and put my name of their birthday board. We finally were able to snag a reservation at Pinyon. I guess being rated #1 Mediterranean restaurant in the country keeps you booked! This restaurant is gorgeous. I love the open concept facing the Civic Center green belt. It was a lovely evening and they had the restaurant fully open to enjoy. We arrived a bit before our reservation time and were seated at 6:30pm. Here is all we ordered: Starters: GAMBAS AL AJILLO Oishii shrimp, garlic, brown butter - so delicious but spicy GREEK CEVICHE white fish, feta, olives, pine nuts, tomato, lemon vinaigrette - this was okay. Definitely not as good as the Seafood Salad and pretty similar SMOKED SALMON CARPACCIO* Gingrass cold-smoked salmon, Persian cucumbers, caperberries, peppercorn vinaigrette - I don't eat smoked salmon so didn't try this but everyone who did liked it. SEAFOOD SALAD #1 Bigeye tuna, jumbo Oishii shrimp, avocado, citrus vinaigrette - Delicious! Order it! Entrees: FILET OF TURBOT charcoal-grilled on our Josper, Lebanese slaw, beet chermoula - He really liked this dish but commented it was swimming in butter. B&R Reserve Filet Mignon Skewers- charcoal-grilled, basmati rice, tomato, Lebanese slaw - Delicious! Order it! SAFFRON RISOTTO Oishii shrimp, merguez sausage - delicious! Order it!! Pinyon has been on my list since its inception . It sling shot towards the top after Yelp anointed it the #1 Mediterranean spot in the US. So we went. Reservation was made early, definitely required on weekends. First, the ambiance: we sat inside on a September day, but I'm fairly convinced outside was the real move , the patio overlooking the park looked peaceful and perfect. We started with labneh, pistachio-forward and genuinely delicious. I got the chicken -- the sauce curry-like in flavor and spice was unique. I typically don't order chicken in restaurants but I'm glad I did this time. But the real MVP was the pistachio cheesecake, which arrived at our table entirely by accident. Winning. read more

What a beautiful two story restaurant. The layout is definitely unique with its open air design. Pinyon is part of the same restaurant group as buck and rider, another favorite ! I started with their beautiful spritz, Sant Andrea- Ford's gin, Italian aperitivo, house citrus-cello, sparkling wine. Very delicious and refreshing. My second drink was 6000 miles -Rayu mezcal, Lebanese arak, pomegranate, lime. Beautiful but too smokey for me. And lastly I had take me to othos - Corazón Blanco tequila, grapefruit, Mastiha Greek liqueur, Urfa Biber rim. Stunning and delicious, my favorite. We wanted to start with a dip and hummus. They offer "sharing is caring" you pick 3 from the Hummusiya menu - a rotating selection of hummus and dips from across the mediterranean served with warm pita bread. Absolutely delicious! For lunch I ordered their steak frites- center cut filet mignon, green peppercorn sauce with a arugula salad. This entree is a must for any steak lover! My friends ordered the chicken and shrimp charcoal grilled skewers and the loup de mar. Everyone loved their dishes! Service was wonderful, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We were too stuffed for dessert, unfortunately, but our waitress gifted the birthday girl some beautiful chocolates to take home with her. I tried Pinyon for the very first time today after being invited to a private dinner event. We were seated in their private dining area which was absolutely beautiful and made for a really nice get together setting. The service was attentive, but I did feel like the plates were being cleared way too quickly. We were still in the middle of eating and some plates that still had food on them were already being taken away. The presentation of the food was definitely a highlight - everything looked beautiful and thoughtfully plated. I wasn't quite as impressed with the flavors. The saffron risotto was a little too mushy for my liking. The pan roasted chicken had great flavor, it was unfortunately very dry. The standouts of the evening for me were definitely the beef carpaccio and the beef filet skewers, especially with the variety of sauces that came with them. The dessert was also okay. The baklava cheesecake tasted better than the two booze tiramisu. For a more upscale Mediterranean restaurant, I was expecting the dishes to pack a little more flavor and live up to the quality overall. I also don't know the pricing since this was a hosted dinner so I can't really comment on the value. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try Pinyon and experience the space but personally I prefer the flavors of smaller Mediterranean businesses and their greater portion sizes. I've recently eaten at some incredible spots along the coast in Cabo, and Pinyon is the first Scottsdale restaurant that's actually given me that same feeling like I'd been transported somewhere on the Mediterranean instead of Old Town Scottsdale. We with Take Me to Othos which was their Paloma: tequila, grapefruit, Mastiha, with an Urfa Biber-spiced rim. It set the tone for the whole night: bold, a little smoky, genuinely well-balanced. From there, our server Rudy took over, and he made the meal. He walked us through the menu like he actually loved it, steered us toward dishes we wouldn't have picked ourselves, and never once made us feel rushed even though we ordered a lot. We started with the raw bar tower with oysters, Oishii shrimp, scallops, and a couple small lobster tails, all impeccably fresh over ice. Then moved into the Seared Feta & Tomato with preserved lemon honey (unexpectedly one of the best bites of the night), the Melon salad with jamón Serrano and hazelnuts, the charcoal-grilled Organic Chicken skewer, and the Beef Carpaccio, thin-sliced and dressed beautifully with horseradish aioli and arugula. Every plate showed real care -- nothing felt like filler. We closed the night the way any good Mediterranean dinner should: upstairs on the terrace with a Carajillo. It was the perfect quiet ending to a lively meal. The space itself deserves its own mention with checkerboard marble floors, warm wood, brass fixtures, and that upstairs bar with sweeping views over Civic Center Park. Buck & Rider's group does it again. Pinions is a gorgeous two‑story space with a covered parking garage and valet, making arrival easy. It's a trendy spot, so dress for the occasion. The downstairs is beautiful, with a great patio. Upstairs is much louder, so keep that in mind when choosing where to sit. Definitely make a reservation . it took us a long time to get one. Service is excellent and friendly. Food is delicious across the board. The pasta and clams are truly spicy, so be careful.Oysters are fantastic. Overall a solid experience at this award winning restaurant in Scottsdale. Dress nice! It's in tourist central so it's see and be seen. They stuck us in a table by the bar in the back corner which was a little disappointing and definitely loud. The only other issue was a fair amount of sediment/cork in the wine bottle. They handled it well and replaced the bottle but my cousin seemed a bit perturbed. Not being a wine guy I moved on. My steak, skewers and drink were all perfect as was our cute waitress Anya. I look forward to returning to try more things for sure as the menu is both complete and inviting! read more

The cutest place. This place is so stylish and cozy at the same time. And their food is soooo good. Came here for me and my boyfriend's birthday and they got us handwritten letter and two boxes of chocolate, so sweet. Their oyster is so juicy and tangy and scallops were so sweet. Didn't expect their shellfish would be this fresh, I can't stop thinking about it. Also got to try eggplant dip, it was so good, but their pita was the bomb. I could just eat this pita without any dip, it was THAT good. Perfectly chewy, fluffy, and flavorful! Also fish and chips, it was crispy and fresh, potatoes came with the dish was so good! We had a reservation for a Friday night and it was busy. Upstairs was a bit quieter which was very nice. To start, we had spritzes, hummus and oysters. The delicious hummus came with the softest fluffiest pita bread. The oysters very fresh and the combo of jamon, tomato and bread was just perfect. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helped us with our selection. We had the linguini with clams (that sauce ) and the beef, shrimp and chicken skewers. We were excited to try the #1 Mediterranean restaurant in the US according to Yelp.. and it just happened to be national oyster day and my daughter's birthday! Just an FYI- if you're booking for someone's birthday make sure they know who it's for. They put a nice birthday message on the board but it had my name and not my daughter's... This restaurant is quite busy and loud, so keep that in mind when booking. We sat upstairs and it was pretty warm up there. Not sure if this is normal or something was going on with the AC that day. They had HH cocktails all day and I enjoyed my Hugo spritz before dinner. The food was excellent, the only thing I was not a big fan of was the risotto. It needed more spice or flavor. Everything else was very flavorful. We had the yellowtail crudo and gambas for appetizers. The gambas were so tasty, the best I've had- even compared to Spain. The garlic butter sauce was delicious, and our server brought out the soft, pillowy pita bread to enjoy with it. For dinner we also had the lobster ravioli, lamb shakshuka, and filet mignon skewers. All were good. The shakshuka, although different than what I've tried before, had great flavor. The steak was cooked very well. For dessert, we wanted to try the pistachio baklava cheesecake, but then to our disappointment our server brought out the chocolate cake. Turned out they were out of the cheesecake, but the manager comped the dessert for us (IMO dessert should always be comped for a birthday...) The oysters were fresh even though it's not the typical season and the hummus was good with a whipped texture. Inside was EXTREMELY aesthetic and perfect for a girls night out or date night. Met our former neighbors and family friends at Pinyon. Front house staff was friendly and accommodating. Sat us immediately at a table that was facing the open patio. Very nice open interior dining area and the temperature was pleasant. Our server greeted us warmly and was very patient. She was attentive throughout our meal. We ordered drinks and the excellent Gambas to start. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce was tasty. Wife got the shrimp risotto, others got the lobster ravioli and eggplant dish. I opted for my usual fish and chips. My fish was crispy and the wedge fries were well seasoned. Food was tasty and presented well. Serving sizes were good and prices weren't bad. We shared a nice bottle of Cabernet. The place was packed towards the end of our dinner so you should make a reservation if you can. read more

We came here with a group of 4 adults on Sunday to have an early dinner. The restaurant is very spacious. They have indoor and outdoor area. They have a total of 2 bars, one on each floor. Service was great and the waitress gave us great recommendations as this was our first time visiting. We started with the pistachio labneh that comes with warm pita bread and it was probably one of my favorites dishes of the night. I got the filet mignon skewers and the portion was large. The meat was tender and the chimichurri sauce was a great addition. I must say the star of the night for me was the pistachio cheesecake. It was one of the best desserts I've had in a while. Ooof I wanted to like this place so much! Stopped by during brunch on the 4th for their all-day $4 spritz specials. Drinks and service were great, but the food totally missed the mark. Started with the artichoke hummus + pita ($15). The hummus texturally was lush and smooth, but absolutely no flavor. Cubes of artichoke were sprinkled around...but other than that, there was no artichoke incorporated. The pita was honestly disappointing...not sure it even deserves to be called pita. Very doughy, no puff in the middle (was it overproofed...was the yeast forgotten??), with zero char/color; visually and texturally, it resembled a large, undercooked english muffin. For brunch mains, we both got the beef kafta ($26), which comes with 2 fried eggs, potato wedges, and arugula salad. The two eggs eclipse the beef patty, which was completely underseasoned and overcooked. Potato wedges were very good, super crispy and tender, and the arugula salad and eggs were good (but how can you really mess that up). We started with the Sant'Andrea Spritz (HUGE and easily our favorite of the bunch), followed by Take Me to Othos (grapefruit x tequila), then the Huge Spritz (huge, glorified lemonade). I finished with the refreshing Sailboats & Trains (cucumber) which was a perfect close to the meal. Four drink maximum per guest btw... The atmosphere, ambiance and service are all great, don't get me wrong. The decoration is very euro-inspired, and the open kitchen is a nice touch. The food is very beautifully delivered, but that was all that was delivered - no flavor, no seasoning, no consistency. I feel like once Pinyon brings their food quality to meet everything else, they'd be an unbeatable spot. In the meantime, I will likely not come back solely for mains. Let me preface this by saying that I am a HUGE fan of Buck & Ryder. I was really excited to have birthday lunch here with a number of friends while I was in town. It was rated so highly and we were all so amped to try it. It's a pretty big place and has some cozy and some open areas, and I like that you can see into the kitchen. Service was quite nice, and our server noted my extreme intolerance for AZ summer heat. She repeatedly brought me glasses of ice and made sure we were all comfortable. She had some good suggestions on what to order and explaining dishes that weren't quite clear, but ambiance and service are only two parts of the trifecta. The food was disappointing. The fish and chips weren't crispy, the open-faced flatbread was...fine? My burger was SO salty. There was a massive baklava cheesecake which was ok, but my tiramisu was sogging - there was no structure to the marscapone. The best part of the meal was my Bloody Mary - the mix was great - but we were really sad about the meal itself. The birthday celebrant was gifted a small box of chocolates, which is nice, but given the food quality I would rather go to one of their sister restaurants next time. read more

Pro-tip: The skewers come with your choice of dipping sauce, but you can ask for a sampler of all of them for free. If you're doing a celebration, they give you a small box of four chocolate truffles. The parking garage nearby is free. Highlights: I think Pinyon is a top restaurant in the valley for sure. I've been here twice, but I have very little complaints with the food. My favorites are the chicken skewers which are so tender and juicy and I love the lentil rice that comes with it. The shareable hummusiya platter is really fun. I usually like to get one hummus, the baba ghanoush and the pistachio labneh if they have it. The lobster salad is also really refreshing and delicious. I love the variety of foods that's offered here. The service is also exceptional and they are so kind and attentive. We were celebrating a birthday and they let us bring in a cake and were so on top of bringing us extra cutlery and dishes and even keeping the box for us in case we had leftovers. Lowlights: It's definitely a spendier meal than usual - I would come for celebrations and not just a casual dinner. I think the least worth it items are the patatas bravas because you only get six, the chicken schnitzel because it's a very small portion, the shashuka was overwhelmingly salty. It seems like they change this daily and we had five options to choose from. We ended up with the marinated artichoke hummus, baba ganoush, and pistachio labneh. The linguine and clam dish was very delicious! The noodles were al dente and the clams were good sizes. Or were. Filet mignon came with rice, greens, and tomatoes. If too rare, they are able to heat it back up to your comfort level. Only thing I was disappointed in were the oysters. We got 6 oysters and all of them had sand in it. When we asked the server they said the oyster types we got are like that.... I love oysters, but having the two types we picked didn't convince me to want more. Parking was easy to find. They blast the misters and fans, but they do it in a way where it's not dropping water all over. The space is beautiful. Pinyon offers Mediterranean inspired cuisine. By the way if you didn't know this already, Pinyon was named the No. 1 Mediterranean Restaurant In The United States By Yelp Elites. Wow! We started off with Pistachio Labneh Hummus consisting of Strained Greek yogurt, roasted pistachios, za'atar, lemon with piping hot in-house made pita bread. It was so delicious I wanted to take a bath in it. Then we shared a large Arugula Salad which was comprised of Artichoke, pine nuts, Kalamata olives, Parmigiano-Reggiano. Phenomenal! After that we also shared Yellowtail Crudo which included Pistachio salsa macho, golden berries. Unbelievably yummy! We finished our meal with absolutely the BEST cheesecake my taste buds have ever encountered. It was a Baklava Cheesecake made with a Goat cheese filling inside a flaky phyllo/pistachio baklava crust, topped with roasted pistachios, walnuts and a drizzle of honey syrup. I stopped by here after I had my massage at the Kimpton Hotel and Spa. I felt like some oysters and I saw that they had fresh oysters so I thought I would give it a try. I sat at the bar and the bartender was wonderful. Luckily I got there during happy hour on a Sunday between three and seven so I was able to enjoy two oysters and two shrimp! Both were very good, but I was a little disappointed that I had to ask for the mignonette to go with my oysters. I just don't think I should have to ask for that. That should just be a given. Also, since it was happy hour, the bartender should've told me that the Sauvignon Blanc was not on happy hour. Granted I did ask for Sauvignon Blanc, but I thought that was part of the happy hour. My Sauvignon Blanc was $15 and the wine on happy hour which was a Chenin Blanc was eight dollars. That's quite the difference. Anyway, the place is lovely lively and looks like a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to going back. I just stopped in for a glass of wine and a few oysters and a few shrimp. We absolutely loved our experience at Pinyon! This is a great spot for dinner with friends or date night, with an upscale Mediterranean feel. They have great indoor and outdoor seating (with misters for when it's hot hot hot out). Our table shared a couple of small plates and got some entrees, so with such a variety of food, I got a great feel for the quality of this restaurant. To start we tried the hummus with steak and hummus with roasted artichokes that came with fresh pita bread - the one with the filet and roasted garlic was my favorite. We also got a shrimp dish that was super garlicky and delicious. My friend and I also thought we couldn't leave without some oysters so we each enjoyed a Pacific and an Atlantic. I was so full after appetizers that for my main I had the tune tartare. This was super unique than any tune tartare I've had before, as it had peppers and some other things mixed inside. My friend and I came here during Sunday brunch time, ordered a couple of cocktails (can't remember the name but it was blanco + grapefruit with a greek liquer) and some great bites. We started with the artichoke hummus which was really delicious. Great consistency, flavor and you get a good amount to share. We also ordered the yellowtail crudo which had a tremendous amount of flavor. It came with a pistachio drizzle and golden berries, plus fresh greens. For entrees we got the beef kafta with eggs. Luckily there were 2 available seats at the upstairs bar. The bar is beautiful with the indoor outdoor feel. We started off with drinks. (Maiden Voyage and Hugo Spritz) Both were amazing. We also had the pistachio labneh and pita bread. Very delicious! The bartenders were so attentive upstairs that we ended up having dinner at the Bar. For dinner we had the Shrimp Louie, Seared Feta and Tomato, Chicken Skewer over salad and Filet Mignon Skewer over rice. Everything was very good. We will definitely be back! Love Pinyon! I'm from LA and came here twice within a month because I could not stop thinking about their pistachio hummus dip. I believe some menu items change based on the season, but just double check with your server! Everything was amazing, from drinks to food to service. I recommend coming during happy hour (3PM-7PM) because the price for drinks, oysters, and hummus can't be beat. I've been here twice now and it's phenomenal every time. I dream about the shareable Gambas Al Ajillo. Lobster Ravioli is amazing, the dips (not pictured) are fantastic especially the baba ghanoush. The fish and chips is something that I wouldn't order again. They had a chef week menu the recent time I visited and it was amazing (calamari, steak and papas bravas) a nice. A friend and I stopped by Pinyon for their incredible happy hour. They are a sister restaurant to Buck & Rider which was our main reason for visiting. We sat at the bar upstairs which had a great open atmosphere to enjoy the weather. The food was great. We had the hummus, carpaccio and fried feta. It was hard to pick a favorite because I loved them all equally and the portions were very generous for a happy hour. The only 1 star I have to dock is for the service. It wasn't the friendliest and we were never asked if we wanted another round of drinks. I still would return just for the food alone. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to try this spot out during Restaurant Week as we both had been wanting to try it since it first opened. First off, let me say that our serve, Becca, was super attentive to our every need, friendly and even gave us a great suggestion for an after dinner spot which turned out to be a great vibe.9 I ordered the shrimp Louie for my appetizer, the chicken skewers for my main entree and the vanilla ice cream that came with a delicious small cookie! My friend ordered the Greek salad with chicken and loved it. We also ordered a side of pita bread with a spicy olive dip. That dip was delicious. I enjoyed a glass of sangria and a glass of sparkling rose! The food tastes as amazing it looks on the dish. Everything was a flavor bomb in my mouth and absolutely delicious! Pinyon has great cocktails and bites! A bit on the pricier side, but their upstairs overlooks the park and is such a cute daytime lunch spot. The beef carpaccio and my Bloody Mary was great. I've also seen they have a great HH menu, however it is limited to the bar. read more

What a great Happy Hour experience with Christian the best Bartender at Pinyon. He was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and a great "mixologist". Pinyon's location however, was hard to find using GPS. But it was worth the confusion. Food was exciting to taste and good! Ambiance was great earlier in day but dinner time brought loud noise level due to more guest arriving! Overall experience was excellent! read more
