Happy Hour review: Happy hour done right. Nice happy hour specials to include drinks and food. The aesthetics of the restaurant are stunning. Beautifully designed with multiple focal points to view during your time there. Our bartender was amazing providing drink suggestions and outstanding presentation of our drinks. Also we got to experience a mini show at the end of happy hour.
Beautiful restaurant with an IG aesthetic and the fire dancers are so fun to watch. It's a great spot for a birthday dinner with dessert coming out with sparklers and servers lighting shots on fire etc. It's definitely made for large groups though I wouldn't recommend for a small party of 2. The seating options for 2 are super cramped and shoved in between large parties. If you're only a couple people I recommend getting out early and snagging a bar seat. Only other issue is the restaurant is incredibly loud so definitely skip if that's not your vibe. Trying to talk to my hubby reminded me of my club days shouting 3 times before he catches onto any comment. I woke up today with a headache and a sore throat but all in all totally worth it.
One of the hottest spots in Scottsdale. Visited on a Saturday night with a friend. This would be the perfect spot for a bachelorette party or a large dinner. There are still plenty of tables for two, but they are tucked to the side. To start, they serve these amazing chips with salsa. There's some spice or salt which makes it so addictive. While looking at our menus we saw the fire dancer perform which was so fun. To drink, I first tried the Pillow Talk martini. It is light and not super fruity served in a whiskey type glass. I was confused since I'd imagined a cute martini glass. Not what I expected, so our server was very kind and replaced it with a recommendation. The second drink I tried was White Lies which is similar to a lychee martini/hugo spritz. I loved this drink. For our mains, we both tried the enchiladas. The short rib was perfectly cooked and super soft. You're able to choose between red and green sauce. It comes with a side of rice and beans. Really yummy enchiladas, but smaller than I expected. We had a great time at Toca Madera. It's such a unique spot that I would recommend. I'd also note that the menu changed within the past few months with price increases, so photos of the menu aren't accurate so check their website. Great spot to try in Scottsdale.
We recently returned here to meet up with some friends out of town, as I knew their vibe was right along with this place. Even on a Sunday at 8 PM. The place was fully packed, and the entertainment and vibe were as expected, as if it was a Saturday night. As for food, we all tried different margaritas to start, and we decided to split and share the calamari and guacamole, and indulge on the chips and salsa. The chips, however, were very, very salty. Everyone commented on that, and it felt like the salsa that was served with it could've been better. It was 'soupy' and non-inviting. It definitely needed some more tomato base to add some overall thickness to the dish. We had multiple servers, which was good, as one focused on drinks and the other focused on food, but it was like day and night between the two so it was a little hard to keep track of things that we were ordered & placed, and at times it was overwhelming as we felt pressured 2 mins to place a drink or food order. As far as the main courses, a lot of us focused on 4 tacos entrée and different sides across the board... Kale salad, Street corn, the Broccolini, and Cilantro Lime Rice. Of course, we went with some fire shots to sync with the vibe that was going on, but we did have a couple near misses where I thought the fire was gonna set somebody's head on fire like Michael Jackson. Always enjoy the vibe... however, I felt the attention to detail and personal touch was lacking for us that night. Looking forward to a better experience moving forward
This is a place you have to try. High energy, Great food and amazing drinks. Shrimp Fajitas were perfect portion size and delicious. The service was fantastic. Book it and go. Thank me later.
I normally hate places like this. Super fancy, visually a vibe, and SMALL PORTIONS! But something about Toca is different we were a party of 12 and EVERYONE enjoyed their food. Drinks were also good. Being from NY/NJ area we were fully impressed. The private room was perfect. Toca Madera Scottsdale was the exclamation point on my 50th Birthday Celebration.
The place was vibrant and amazing. The fire dancer with the guitar player. Really gives the energy and atmosphere of being in a Tulum restaurant in the middle of Mexico. The decor matches perfectly, and if you get too cold, they have blankets available for you to wrap yourself with. It was a particularly busy night, which I can see why they need reservations. However, it's still did not give excuse for why the food was not up to par. My rice was extremely cold, and it felt like it had been sitting out for a while and my shrimp, thought cooked perfectly, was not of temperature as if it was just made. Overall, the waiter was amazing, the drinks were good, and it's a great experience to have if you're ever in the Scottsdale area.
Went here for the first time over the weekend. We had a lovely time watching the fire dancers and enjoying our meal together. The service was great both from our waitress and the server assistants. $26 for a watered down watermelon margarita is crazy! Could barely taste the tequila. The appetizers and the chicken parm were bomb tho. It was very loud, which I enjoyed the music, but my throat was getting very dry and starting to hurt from shouting at my friend across the table . It was so busy and kind of a fiasco. Too many people everywhere. The fire dancers were stunning and of very high talent. I'm glad I went to finally check out this place and I'm glad I got it out of my system! I won't be back.
Me and my girls had so many high hopes for this spot during our girls trip to Scottsdale. We were highly disappointed. This review is based on the service alone, which dictated our whole experience. It trumped everything and we honestly left vowing to never go back. Let me first start by saying that we had a 6:45 pm reservation and arrived 10 mins early. We weren't seated until 7 pm. That don't bother us as much. The restaurant was beautiful and we just knew we were about to have a great experience. We ordered drinks and noticed the waitress was just ok. We overlooked it and ordered our food. Some of the food was incorrect, so we notified our waitress. While explaining what the issue was, she basically cut us off and asked if we wanted something else or the same dish. We made it clear that we wanted something else. She was clearly agitated, Snatched the plate from my friend and walked off. She the came back to the table to explain that the dish she wanted to order would cost more...as if we didn't know that. It's almost as if she was insinuating we could not afford it. That was an instant turnoff. We stopped eating and my friend requested that the chef not even make the plate. On top of that, when we confronted her about her attitude, there was no apology or anything from her. We were done. On top of that, my enchiladas were just "ok". Highly disappointed experience. If I had her name, I'd absolutely name drop it here!
First off this is definitely a must try while in Scottsdale Arizona. I had booked this restaurant for the bride because of the high reviews and the amazing entertainment that was offered. The restaurants decor was beautiful. The aesthetics were calm and welcoming. I loved all of the trees that sat in the middle. I ordered a mocktail, which was amazing. All of my friends ordered drinks and they were delectable. I tried a couple of them. We ordered appetizers from the guacamole that had pomegranate seeds and sunflower seeds. Inside of it was so good. To the plantain chips to the ceviche it was so fresh. Then we ordered our entrées, which were so amazing. Everything came out fresh and hot. Definitely make sure you bring your money when you come here. It's very expensive but worth it if you want a fancy restaurant. We did not try any of the desserts, unfortunately but we did see other people ordering the desserts and looked so good. There was a beautiful woman who is doing a fire show for us and she definitely caught the crowds attention in our attention. I would definitely come back. This place is 10 stars.
While the cost of food at this establishment is quite high, the quality of the dishes justifies the expense. We particularly enjoyed the burrito and chicken Parmesan. Although the waitress's demeanor was not particularly pleasant, the restaurant's aesthetic appeal and delectable cuisine make it a worthwhile dining experience.
Toca Madera was everything!!! The food, the service, the interior absolutely stunning. We were visiting Scottsdale for a bachelorette trip and had our final dinner here. To say we were impressed is an understatement. The attention to detail and commitment to customers having a good experience is evident. Get ready to be transported to Mexico City in the dessert. The vibe is upscale night out so come dressed to impressed. Everyone looked good the staff and patrons understood the assignment. While we waited for our table we waited at the bar in the back and had some cocktails, I recommend the espresso martini. There was a live dj set, guitar player and a fire show performance. Once we were sat Brad was our server and he took great care of us all night. Made great recommendations pairing food and drinks and he was not wrong. I had the prawns and a Serrano tequila cocktail that was amazing! Must stop if you're in Scottsdale.
The place is exclusive and it is instagram picture ready. The service was great and the people are kind. The main reason to go there is to have a good time and enjoy the food. When we got there they took us by the bar and I must say their drinks are good and very eye pleasing. However the inside was very hot and all of out people were sweating and several other people kept fanning themselves with whatever they could. It was not a great experience, made it uncomfortable and hard to relax. As per the food it was definitely very OK. Nothing super tasty or extremely good. The one that I would recomend would be the queso fundido. It is a good place to have a drink, and a happy hour apatizer, but I would not go there just for the food

The food and drinks were delicious, service was very attentive, and very nicely decorated interior and ambiance. We got the steak fajitas, some grilled salmon, elote corn, crispy calamari, and cilantro rice. All hit the spot! read more
A friend and I recently came here for a birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint! After looking over the menu, we ordered the truffle quesadilla and the crispy calamari to start off with. The calamari was cooked to perfection, not too tough, with a nice crisp to it, with a subtle hint of spice. The quesadilla was fine, not sure if the flavors worked well together for my taste buds. For our main entrees, we ordered the seared scallops and the sea bass tacos which were highly recommended to us. The scallops were melt in your mouth tender and well-seasoned. The sea bass tacos were enjoyable, not fishy at all. Since we always have room for dessert, we ordered a strawberry tres leches to share alongside the complimentary birthday dessert. The tres leches was enjoyable, not too sweet but not quite like a typical tres leches that is usually drenched. Overall, service was friendly and attentive, with the food arriving in a timely manner. At no point during our time here did we feel rushed or ignored. The atmosphere was quite lively, especially once the fire show started. This is a great spot to come more so for the younger crowd for a date night, a night out with some friends, or to celebrate an occasion. read more

I didn't have super high expectations because the whole branding of this place is centered around the aesthetics and entertainment. It's very much the type of place you come to for the experience, vibes, and aesthetic photos. How'd ver, if I'm going to a steakhouse and paying for a tomahawk, I expect a dang good one. Unfortunately, this one was honestly not great. It had SO much char that it wasn't really enjoyable to eat. The sea bass tacos, however, definitely blew me away, 12/10. The queso fundido was surprisingly good too, 7/10. Unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing. I didn't have a single drink that had me wanting another one. Would I come back? Perhaps and honestly, the brownie might be the reason why because that thing was SO bomb. So if you do happen to come here, I would definitely recommend the sea bass tacos and the brownie with vanilla ice cream! read more

Amazing ambiance with even better service. I will say this place is on the higher end of everything, but the quality is definitely worth it. The food tasted great, but the portion sizes are on the smaller size. I ordered the burger and received what seemed to be a slider. read more
Wow and WOW! What an experience! Yes, you are going to spend ALOT of money here but the food was so amazing as well as the service... and do not get me started on the decor! This is an experience you will not forget or regret! I treated my daughter's bachelorette group here and we all could not rave enough about our food! From the chips and salsa...to the guacamole....to the taco flights we all were incredibly happy. The sea bass tacos were everyone's favorite taco. I ordered the short rib enchiladas and could not believe how happy my taste buds were. The meat was so flavorful with the chilis I could not get enough. Sooo amazing! Yes...be prepared for sticker shock but everyone in our party of 7 was incredibly happy. read more

I've been to Toca Madera multiple times, and I personally don't usually feel that the food is worth the price. This visit was for brunch, which starts with cornbread and butter when you're seated. I didn't love it, as it had whole corn kernels baked into it. I know some people enjoy that style, but it wasn't my preference. I ordered the sashimi next, which was one of the best dishes of the meal and truly melted in my mouth. I also tried the wagyu wonton tacos. I didn't find them particularly special, though my friend enjoyed them a lot. The Mexican chop salad with salmon was one of the best salads I've had by far, but the salmon itself was a bit dry. Lastly, I ordered the street tacos. The carne asada was very good, while the sea bass was just okay. Service was excellent. Our server frequently checked on us, helped explain menu items, and the bussers were constantly refilling our water. The ambiance is fun and lively, with lots of windows and natural light. However, the music is always very loud, which is usually why I don't go often. It can be hard to hear conversations. Overall, the food is decent, but I don't always think it's worth the price read more

The food was good not spectacular. Pricey but you're paying for the ambiance and the experience. The tacos were good but not for the price. 4 tacos for $40 and that's all you got. No rice or beans, that's extra. I'm more practical, but the aesthetics was beautiful if that's your thing. My thing is food and drinks that is reasonable. read more

I've been to Toca Madera a couple times and always had a great experience. The decor is beautiful and the service is attentive. Drinks are good and strong. Love the food--the seafood tower, Toca Caesar and Wagyu options are some of my faves. Prices are high, so I usually only come for special occasions, but I'm always happy to visit. read more

As soon as you enter you're blown away by the production. It looks like you're in the jungle with cool upbeat music but without being too overpowering. A woman was doing the coolest fire dancing I've ever seen with someone else doing live guitar solos. The food was all amazing and so much of it was very truffle forward. The taco flight was excellent and this was definitely the best guacamole I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Hoping to make another trip back one day soon read more

Toca Madera is definitely all about the ambiance, and that's really what you're paying for. The fire dancers were the highlight of the evening and put on a great show. Our server was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype or the price tag. The tacos were honestly laughable at $44, with portions that felt very small for what you're paying. The rice was undercooked, which was disappointing, and overall the food quality didn't justify the cost. The seating arrangements were also uncomfortable, and the music was so loud that it was difficult to have a conversation and enjoy the company of the people at your table. While the atmosphere was entertaining, the overall dining experience fell short. I wouldn't return. read more
The food was fantastic. We had enchiladas, salmon and chicken and they were excellent. The portions were large. The wines were great, too. The service was great. The waiter was informative and attentive. The ambiance appeals to younger people and being older, it didn't appeal to us. Not the fault of the restaurant; it pitches to the young, hip crowd. We didn't realize that. For us, it was like eating in a disco and at our age, it didn't resonate at all. Too loud. I recommend Toca Madura for adults under 50 but not for anyone older. read more

This place is not just dinner, it's an experience. We came here for my last nights bachelorette dinner. We did have to wait a bit for a table even with a reservation but this wasn't a concern for our group. When we were seated, they gave us complimentary flaming shots. We got guac for the table which was delicious. I split the ceviche and the branzino with one of the girls along with a side of the street corn. All of it was incredible. I tasted a few different drinks as well, some suggested by the waiter. I'm a huge fan of mezcal so he suggested the Guilty Pleasure which was my favorite of the drinks I had. They even had a fire dancer during our dinner for a little show. Overall we had a great time! read more

We choose this upscale, modern Mexican restaurant for a friends birthday during a trip to Scottsdale. We made reservations and were seated after a reasonable, brief wait. I would recommend reservations if you want to go, on the Friday night they were turning people away or offering a very long wait. It is a bit difficult to review. The ambiance is fantastic, the restaurant is low lite, and beautifully decorated. They also had a fire performance. The margaritas are great, and they offer many variations, we each tried a different one. The food is great, but we did not find it great enough to justify the price point. The service was also not great. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, it was towards the end that it was an issue. While I understand they are busy, this is a nice restaurant, we should not have to wait a noticeable amount of time to get the check or pay. I would go based on the ambience, but be prepared to pay and a possible wait. read more

Toca Madera is unlike any restaurant I've been to -- fire performances, a live DJ, stunning ambiance. It genuinely feels like a Las Vegas Strip experience right in Scottsdale. The A5 Wagyu tacos ($37 for two) absolutely lived up to the hype -- smoky, perfectly layered, and worth every penny. The 18 oz ribeye was incredible and the Mexican street corn is a must-order side. Skip the branzino and just go for the steak! A few things fell short though -- we called multiple times about the fire show schedule and kept going to voicemail, water refills were nonexistent all night, and our leftovers came out in a plain box with no bag. Small details, but noticeable at this price point. Pro tip: book ahead, dress code IS enforced, and catch the fire show starting at 7 PM! We went for my birthday this year. Such a cool place. We got a few of every taco they had. Drinks were great if a little slow. Food was delicious. The dancers were so fun to watch. Definitely crowded and we did get squeezed into a small table even with a reservation. But definitely popular for a reason. read more

Yes, but everything is fancy. No kids menu. So if you don't mind spending $15 for two creative tacos for the kiddos personally better to enjoy it yourself with your spouse or partner.

I don't think elderly people would like it here, it's very loud and you might struggle with conversation

No more than most Mexican restaurants, but many of the food options don't have gluten. I got the carne asada and prawns with corn tortillas the last time I was there.
