Came back a second time on my trip because I couldn't get enough of my first visit! I opted to try a couple different things this time and picked a fab from my previous visit. The vibe was a little quieter but still super moody and aesthetics with a great dinner energy. The bartenders again were so amazing; shout out to Barbie for the amazing service and drink recs! I got the trio of nigiri and the smoked A5 Wagyu roll. While this roll sounds like something quite different it was delicious in flavor and the combo hit just right, I've never had anything like it. Would recommend giving it a try and stopping by this restaurant when in town.
Love the ambiance of this place from the inside out. Upscale yet chill vibe. All the servers I encountered were great. It's best to make a reservation since this place is pretty popular. It's veey open so there is plenty of seating throughout the restaurant I love the patio scene and that there is a traditional patio dining area and patio lounge area options. There are also cabana style patio seating for private dining which looked cool. The food was very appetizing and left me satisfied. I ordered the KFC Chicken Bites, Tempura Spicy Shrimp, Wagyu Fried Rice, and Handcut fries. Everything was cooked to order and came out beautifully plated. The food was hot and hit the spot for dinner. My favorite was the shrimp. A nice portion piled high with a light crispy batter. Looking forward to my next visit to try more food.
I'm typically not a steakhouse type of person but wow, Kauboi really impressed me! We got several items on the menu including the shishito peppers, yakitori and Hon Maguro nigiri. For our main course, we had the Wagyu Skirt Steak and Ribeye. All very fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately they did not have the asparagus the night we dined it and ended up going with the BBQ Carrots and they were just okay for me. Service was great as well, our server Lisa was amazing. We were sat outside and thankfully it was not too hot which made the night so great.
For my birthday, combined with another special occasion for our family, we wanted to check out this place, and we were all looking forward to it. This overall experience was like a roller coaster ride, to be honest... Highs and lows, and then there were moments when I was literally like huh/really. It all started upon arrival as the restaurant was located inside the hotel, so I pulled up to the valet area, but the valets just stood under the umbrella looking at us, then each other, and acted like there was no sense of urgency for us. That's not on the restaurant, but that's on the partnership they have, and that wasn't cool. After dropping off my family, I just decided to park across the street as I wasn't inclined to deal with them when they eventually came over with the "what do you want " attitude (REALLY!!) The lobby is great, and the entrance to the restaurant is located on the 3rd floor. Upon arrival, we were eagerly greeted & quickly seated, but also had an opportunity to look around at the outdoor area and take a few photos to celebrate the occasion, which I have to say is pretty amazing. (HIGH). Our server was great to start, welcoming us for the first time and sharing a bit about the expected experience, which had our full attention. The staff members had the "all hands on deck" mentality and were quick to bring out waters, ice & the 1st round of cocktails. As for drinks, we had the Golden Ghost & some Rose. We started off with several appetizers, particularly 2 of the highly rated sushi rolls (Desert Heat & Sonora Sunset, along with the KFC chicken. The sushi rolls both lived up to expectations (pricey). The KFC chicken was a generous portion to share, along with really good dipping sauces. After receiving our appetizers, it seemed like everything went dark (LOW). There seemed to be a lapse in the same attentive service & follow-up with drinks, water, and just clearing up our area. Granted, other parties were arriving, so I get that it was getting busy, but we seriously got neglected for quite some time & I think someone noticed my "irritation". (LOW) When everything did get back on track, we decided to complete our experience and do the Kauboi Cut aka the Tomahawk, tableside. I want my family to enjoy the experience. The presentation of the tomahawk was good, and of course, like everyone, we all videotaped it. The steak was cooked to my liking (it was about me, Medium). When we initially chose it, we mentioned that some pieces would need to be cooked a bit more for 2 other guest and they would provide us with some hot stones once sliced. (Similar to how the Wagyu Fried Rice). Shortly after everything was sliced and ready to go we found ourselves looking around, wondering where the hot stones were and that took away from our experience (LOW). For dessert, we had the Dark Chocolate Mousse. It wasn't until a reminder was said at the table about it being a birthday celebration and the afterthought of the Berries & Cream birthday dessert followed, which was complimentary. Our server did mention that they got overwhelmed, but given that we didn't see the supporting staff much, we felt like we simply got neglected. Overall, the food was good. I think the timing of the service 'should' of been a lot better for a high-end experience. I was also disappointed when you talk about dress code expectations on the website, and yet when I arrive, I see people with Birkenstock sandals, ashy feet, tennis shoes, and other items specifically called out not to be worn... This was a hard review to give to a place I want to return, but the inconsistent service really took away from our overall experience.
Kauboi has a cool atmosphere and a great place to "be seen" in Scottsdale. The menu is a trendy fusion of Japanese and quality steaks. I would visit again for the music and fun outdoor ambiance. The servers were a bit pushy to spend more money when we really only wanted some small bites and cocktails. She was also a bit annoyed after we asked if anything could be done for not receiving our wagyu skewers for 1 hour. We were already ready to leave when they finally arrived.
I'm way overdue for writing a review for one of my absolute favorite spots in Scottsdale. Kauboi, located inside the Remi Hotel, is more than just a restaurant--it's an experience. From the stunning city views to the beautiful landscaping and vibrant atmosphere, every visit feels elevated. The sushi and drink menu is extensive, with both cocktails and mocktails that are as visually impressive as they are delicious. It's the kind of place where you can sip something fancy and actually enjoy every drop. Dinner has always been amazing. I've been there 11 times and have yet to be disappointed. I usually sit outside, either at a table or in the lounge areas, which really adds to the overall vibe. Some of my personal favorites: the bone-in ribeye, garlic soy edamame, togarashi-dusted fries, smoked sweet potatoes, and BBQ carrots--each dish consistently hits. My friends swear by the wagyu fried rice served in a clay pot and the whole fried snapper. The only miss for me was the chocolate chip cookies dessert--but honestly, it may have just been an off day because everything else has been flawless. Service is also worth highlighting. Lisa and Teron ("T") have both taken great care of us--attentive, knowledgeable, and always on point with recommendations. Kauboi continues to deliver every single time. If you're looking for a place that combines great food, atmosphere, and service, this is it.
I'm gonna be honest kauboi blew me away!!! I loved how thoughtfully designed the space was. I highly recommend grabbing a table outside it's gorgeous. We decided to do seafood only which was the best decision ever! The grilled prawns with that spicy chili sauce was really fresh and juicy with every bite. I loved it. The tuna rice was delicious that had a little spicy sauce on the bottom. I really enjoyed it. The sashimi was seriously some of the best I've ever had. The Ponzu sauce at the bottom only brought out the flavors of the fish more. It was so good!! they had the deck open, so even though I was sitting outside and was able to enjoy the outside atmosphere which I really appreciated. I will be back.

Went to Kauboi to celebrate the wife's birthday, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment we walked in, the service made us feel like VIPs. We had our toddler and they seated us in a private corner table to ourselves. Every recommendation was spot on, the food was incredible, and the cocktails were just as impressive. Every dish was packed with flavor, and the atmosphere struck the perfect balance between upscale and fun. They even made my wife's birthday feel extra special, which we really appreciated. If you're looking for a place in Scottsdale for a date night, celebration, or just an amazing meal, Kauboi is a must. We'll definitely be back!
My first time coming here for dinner with a few friends. We made dinner reservations for 830pm but we didn't get sat till around 9pm. It didn't seemed too busy in there on a Saturday night. The ambience and decor was very nice. It was really dark inside. Had a little hard time reading the menu. We each had a few cocktails and a few appetizers for the table. Spicy Cucumber salad - I thought it was a little salty Bluefin Tuna crispy rice - this was very good Hamachi sashimi- I enjoyed this as well Spicy tempura shrimp - was pretty good as well Overall was a good experience I would come again and try other items on the menu.
Got the waygu fried rice and mocktails, it was good! Little overpriced but this is a Scottsdale luxury restaurant so I'm not surprised. I would come back. Service was quick and kind.
Kauboi Scottsdale is our new favorite rooftop restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale! The rooftop views are stunning and create the perfect upscale yet relaxed vibe once the sun goes down. The sushi here is awesome and paired with their craft cocktails, and you've got a winning combo. Great ambiance, great food, and an overall elevated experience. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion!
Came here for my birthday dinner and was blown away. We tried items off the small plate menu and enjoyed everything. I also had a mocktail that was absolutely perfect. I loved the decor and got the chance to walk around the oudooor area which was lovely. Definitely the perfect place to celebrate any special occasion. Service was slow to start but seemed to be okay afterwards.
Staff were very warm and welcoming through our visit, staying with hosted staff and bartender Daniel. Presentation of food and beverages was memorable and very tasteful, the Zen garden drink guests ordered was mesmerizing. I enjoyed the Kyoto pop zero proof cocktail. For dinner my friend and I shared the Camelback cactus roll. Wow! What a unique medly of ingredients! Tahin, cream cheese, cactus, raw salmon, charred corn and orange! Utter perfection. Best roll I've had in my life! After the roll I had such high hopes for the Wagyu fried rice but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The steak was dry and cut, thin. The rice was not memorable. It just seemed like regular rice flavored with a few ingredients that didn't stand out. For nearly $60, I wish we would've chosen differently, and no one checked on satisfaction once food arrived. Nevertheless, I'll assume this was simply a poor choice of an entrée, and was still overall impressed with the atmosphere, menu options, and that first roll. Prices are high making it less appealing to try a bunch of different things so more a place for a special night out than to frequent. read more

We had a lovely time here. It's a nice vibe, upbeat but low lights, nice presentation. Service was excellent. The guy was very nice, seemed very nervous the whole time, but I'm not sure why, we didn't have any issues. We ordered lots of different things because everything sounded so good. Japanese milk toast with miso and honey butter. OMG. It was the fluffiest, dreamiest toast. You get 3 thicc slices with an ample amount of honey butter. The balance of flavors was excellent. You get depth and umami the miso, sweetness from the honey. I could have eaten a whole additional order. It's a bread lover's dream. For the small plates: We tried the shishito peppers, and crispy pork belly. Do not skip the crispy pork belly. If you like getting crispy pork belly at dim sum, it's better here. It was tender, flavorful and had the perfect crisp to it. I wish I got more than one plate of it. Like, if you go with friends, everyone should get their own. They served it with chili XO sauce, togarashi salt and honey mustard. I tried it with all 3 together and it was like fireworks. Chef's kiss definitely. Cooked perfectly, not overly salty. Yasssss. Shishito peppers were served with the perfect amount of sauce, and they had the stems cut off, which I like them prepped that way. So good. Anytime I get sushi, I get shishito peppers if they're available. Super tasty. The sauce wasn't too overbearing so you still tasted the flavor of the peppers. 7/10 Yakitori: it's a hard choice, there's so many options. I chose the Hokkaido scallop only because we were trying so many different things. 2 pieces come on the skewer and they bring a whole binchotan grill to the table to serve it. It tasted fresh and the flavors were simple, served with the XO sauce. Definitely would eat that again. I wish I got a pork belly skewer too. 9/10 Sushi: Yuzu Verde roll Tempura fried lobster, with cucumber, avocado, yuzu and green salsa. The lobster was cooked perfectly. It was a very nice combination, bright and fresh tasting. The green salsa was unexpected with tempura fried lobster but very good. We didn't even need soy sauce and wasabi. 8/10 Wagyu fried rice in a clay pot- Presentation was lovely. They brought a hot stone with the Wagyu short rib slices and finished the cooking at the table. It was good, but...not $48 good. I like my fried rice a little drier, this was more "wet" bc it was saucier. While it wasn't gross, it was seasoned decently but it was mid. 6/10 We got dessert to go, the kauboi chocolate chip cookies. They were good and chocolatey and came with a "Mexican hot chocolate" which was like a chocolate dipping sauce with cinnamon. You get 2 big cookies approximately 6" in diameter. They were pretty standard tasting for chocolate chip cookies. They were $20, which I don't think they were worth that price, $16 would be a better price point for what you get imo. 7/10 All in all, I'll definitely be back. This is a newer restaurant in Old Town at the Remi Hotel. I went on a Friday night and it was quite busy which to make me think it was a really good restaurant! I arrived and we had to put a credit card in to reserve a table (not my favorite thing) and we had to wait about 10 mins or so until our table was ready. The service was 7/10 as the waiter might have had some bias towards us since we were a younger group of girls who were ordering a ton of food. The wagyu top cut was the best thing we ordered- it was $95 and definitely worth the price. We ordered a few drinks and one of them came with quite an experience in which we weren't expecting! The drink came out on a plate with dry ice! Worth a try if you are in old town, it's a good upper class Asian fusion restaurant! read more

Absolutely loved!!! We loved the vibe and atmosphere here. Made reservations in advance for outdoor seating making it really easy w/o a wait. All of the staff were very friendly with great energy! I loved the music--please share your station with me!! I had the peppers and the Desert Roll. Both delicious!! My friends shared a Wagyu dish with rice and wouldn't stop taking about how it was the best thing they've ever had! I could have easily sat and enjoyed Kauboi longer if we didn't have other plans! 8.22.25 - our group decided to check out this place after leaving Global Ambassador. Instantly loved the ambiance here. It's dark and vibey with good music. We were seated in a lounge area with a bar. Our waitress was nice and got our orders in pretty quickly. We ordered some drinks, 2 rolls and yakitori. For drinks, we ordered Shishito Sour and The Outlaw. Our drinks were pretty good! Would order again. I believe the guys ordered tequila sodas. I can't remember the names of the rolls that one of the guys ordered. They were alright though. I would've ordered other stuff. I didn't try the yakitori so unsure if that was good. I'll have to try different items from the menu the next time I'm back. The only thing I didn't like was that Valet for the hotel is $30!!! Park around the corner somewhere read more

It was our first time at Kauboi and it will definitely not be our last. What a great addition to Old Town Scottsdale. Taylor our waitress was fantastic. I have to be gluten free so she walked me through the menu on what we could order and she also confirmed with the chef to ensure I had a wonderful dinner. We chose the chicken thigh and scallops yakitori which was delicious and perfect to split for the 2 of us. For dinner we shared the ribeye, wagyu fried rice and the mushrooms. It was so delicious and the presentation was amazing. The waygu came out sizzling and was placed on the rice at our table. Our table was outside on the patio which was so beautiful. It started to rain after our food was served so everyone was rushed inside. So our second table was in the indoor lounge which was equally beautiful. We feel like we had 2 unique meals in the same evening. read more
Came here with a big group so We did family style which I highly recommend. When I opened up the menu there was probably 20 options that caught my eye so luckily we tried a lot. First off the pork ribs were great. Fell off the bone and a hint of sweetness. The wagyu fried rice was amazing. It's served in a stone pot and is a good size portion. The ribeye was fire. It was bone in and had just the right amount of fat. My favorite was the wagyu skirt steak. It came with 3 types of salt to put on top. My favorite was the spicy salt( can't remember the name) but it was fire. If you're looking for a cool experience try the sushi boat. They cover it with dry ice so it's a really cool experience. The sushi was unique and had a lot of options. For dessert we tried the cookie, matcha tres leches cake and the shaved ice. All were amazing. The service is super attentive and friendly and love the western asian style of the restaurant .Definitely come check this place out! read more

We had a luxurious and beautiful birthday celebration at Kauboi, the new Japanese steakhouse inside the Remi Hotel in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. The interior design inside the hotel is breathtaking including this wonderful clean scent. The hotel as well as the surrounding businesses are all run and owned by Riot Hospitality Group. The theme behind Kauboi is the combination of cowboy and Japanese culture. There's a large mural over the bar which depicts a cowboy (Clint Eastwood?) with moving parts created by a projector (smoke from a gun and a train). We were well taken care of by our server Lisa and our busser who made sure we had the best experience! Our dishes included: Japanese Milk Toast Kanpachi Nigiri Saguaro Roll (soft shell crab, tuna) Crispy chicken wings Grilled Kauboi ribs Wagyu short rib skewer Corn on the cob Head on blue prawn Kakigori (shaved ice dessert) Matcha tres leches cake Robata Yuzu olive oil cake Kauboi chocolate chip cookies Overall the majority of the dishes were a solid good being that it was only their second week. We learned that their robata grill is outside and our ribs arrived cold, I'm not sure if it's because it just took awhile for it to be brought in. Our favorite was the Japanese milk toast and Wagyu short rib skewer. But the standout of the evening was their top tier hospitality, definitely on brand. A few other notes: Kauboi is on the 3rd floor of the hotel. There is a dress code. There is no kids menu, but we did bring our 6yo son who enjoyed some of the food. Valet is available, but there is also nearby free street parking. In the back of Kauboi, there is also a whiskey room which is $100/person. On the outside, there is a beautiful patio and cabanas. I had 8:15 pm reservations didn't get sat till 8:45pm - they forgot about us but food 10/10 , service 10/10 but I could tell our server was over worked running and covering tons of tables but he was still a professional . Located on the 3rd floor of the new Remi Hotel in Old Town Scottsdale, Kauboi is a beautiful and upscale Japanese steakhouse. Valet service is available, though there's also street parking nearby. Reservations are highly recommended, and the dress code is clearly outlined on both their website and in your confirmation message. The restaurant has a refined, modern aesthetic -- warm wood accents, greenery, and a masculine elegance throughout. In the evenings, the large glass doors open to connect the main dining room with the outdoor bar and patio, giving the space an open, vibrant feel. The food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the spicy cucumber and the crispy rice with tuna -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully executed. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. After dinner, we moved out to the patio bar, where a spectacular lightning show lit up the sky in the distance. Staff was mindful of safety, but it was an unforgettable backdrop that only added to the ambiance of the evening. We hosted a large group event here last night (50 people), and everything was absolutely seamless from start to finish. The food and drinks were amazing--our entire group couldn't stop raving about them. Lisa and Taylor took such great care of us, staying on top of everything and making sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. The booking process was just as impressive--the events coordinator made everything incredibly easy and stress-free, which we really appreciated. From the moment we were greeted, Klajd and PJ delivered exceptional service with attention to every detail, making us feel welcome, cared for, and completely at ease. Jeremiah was the magician behind the bar -- his cocktails were thoughtful, unique, and presented like works of art. The Jasmine Blossom, served on a miniature Japanese garden with dry ice fog gently rolling over the table, was an absolute showstopper both in flavor and visual presentation. We began our culinary journey with a refreshing light salad and the Japanese Milk Toast -- my date's first time trying it, and she described it perfectly in one word: heavenly. The crispy rice balls were perfect bites of texture and flavor, and the skewers (sweet potato, short ribs, and mushrooms) were served hibachi-style at the table -- smoky, tender, and perfectly seasoned. For entrees, we enjoyed the salmon and pork katsu -- both beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. Every bite brought happiness to all our taste buds. Dessert? If I had to describe my dining experience last weekend, I'd say disappointing. Went with a group of 11 for a birthday dinner and was blown away by the ambiance. When I say stunning, I mean... WOW On to the disappointment... Almost all of us had a complaint about our food. I ordered sushi and fries. I got my sushi first and tried to hold off on eating it as I thought my fries were on the way. After about 30 minutes I had no choice but to eat the sushi which by then was freezing. Smh I asked the server and she said the fries were coming out with the steaks. I asked her why they were coming out with the steaks, I didn't order a steak nor did I order fries as an entree. I canceled them and starved the rest of the night. Let me just say the steaks literally took 2 hours to come out and were described as "fatty" and "missing something". My husband ordered a side of scallops to go with his rice. We never received them. They ended up on someone else's plate. The server offered to throw them back on the stove to warm them. Let me say it a different way - the server offered to take the scallops off of the plate of the guest who incorrectly received them. They'd been sitting on her plate at least 30 minutes being talked over and spit on. Put the spit on scallops back on the stove to cross contaminate anything else and then serve them to my husband. Not on my watch. How disgusting and unsanitary. My cousin and his lady received undercooked steak and lamb. Now, in all fairness, their food came on a stove that was supposed to continue cooking it. And it would have, had they been given a hot stove. The birthday girl didn't receive the fried rice she ordered and ended up eating some from a friend's plate. We were there for 3 or so hours. Two of those hours were spent waiting on subpar food. Another beautiful restaurant with poor service and mid food. They've been open too long for these kind of mistakes read more

We had high expectations. The service was awesome, they had a dj which wasn't needed but added to ambience. We had drinks, starters, mains and a desert. The food was very good with the milk toast and sushi standing out. The yakitori Wagyu was okay but not astounding. I'm giving this a four for several reasons, the lighting was so dim we needed our phones to read the menus, the DJ played music from ages past but mixed with modern beats and therefore ruining the classics. Hubby surprised me and took me here for our wedding anniversary dinner. Super romantic setting inside with dim lighting and the views of the sunset from the outside bar/terrace were incredible! We were sat in a cozy corner booth before being greeted by Tiarnan -- whom was absolutely spectacular right from the gate! He explained the menu to us, reviewed drinks and the most popular cocktails, as well as what my fave spirits were to tailor preferences to those. He also asked if we had any allergies to avoid, which is always a kind touch in my book! We started with the Japanese milk toast which was phenomenal and for mains, I had the Tombstone roll with wagyu, caviar and gold flakes while my hubby got the 8oz wagyu top cap with a side of fries. Our food was so amazing, and I NEVERRRR eat leftovers -- esp not sushi however I ate that roll UP!!! literally so good and one of the best rolls I've ever had. An absolutely incredible experience! The atmosphere and ambiance are amazing. The cocktails and food were spectacular. I also appreciate that they are willing to accommodate for a gluten free diet. My personal favorites were the desert heat roll, hamachi, A5 wagyu hot stone, and wagyu fried rice! The service was top notch - thank you to our waitress, Lisa and Chef Gilberto! And a huge shout out to all the managers (Jeffrey, Danielle, Randy)! I cannot recommend Kauboi highly enough! read more
