Had a wonderful dinner here last night! I have been wanting to try this place, and I am very happy that we did. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff were so sweet to write us a handwritten note, this really started off our night on a good note so props to you guys! As a lemoncello connoisseur, their lemoncello in general was fantastic and the spritz was very refreshing and bright! It makes me very happy to know that they make everything from scratch, including some of their liquors. A little intimidated by the menu, I asked our server what he recommended. He was very knowledgeable and very descriptive when explaining the dishes! I got the short rib pasta, and my boyfriend got the shrimp linguine. This was seriously one of the best pastas that I've ever had! On both of our meals, the protein was just incredible. The shrimp was tender flavorful and I appreciated them keeping the shell on the shrimp it just tasted so fresh! For my short rib, it was just truly incredible. The sauce was rich and flavorful without being too heavy or overwhelming. The short rib just melted. Honestly, in this day and age it's very hard to find places like this in my experience where the service is top-tier. The ambience is welcoming, warm and you can taste the actual care and love that goes into everything that they put out. I look forward to bringing my friends and family to try this gem. First time at DiMaggio's and I liked it. I'd return for sure. The italian restaurant market is way oversaturated in this part of town and super competitive. So it needs to be said up front that diners, including myself, are able to be very picky about italian restaurants around here. I loved the overall vibe, design and decor. There's a big patio with a good sized bar open to the interior, and a bar inside with maybe only 10 seats. I didn't sit at the bar, but did see the bartender in lively banter with everyone there. I'd like to spend a couple hours at that bar sometime inside or out, get some bites and a cocktail. The dining room isn't too big or too small with classic dark walls and red booths, white tablecloths. My favorite. Classy and comfortable. The food was all excellent, very flavorful and perfectly executed. Even parking at DiMaggio's is easy which is rare in Scottsdale. I'm still confused about what kind of restaurant DiMaggio's is - casual or fine dining? On the one hand, the decor is upscale, low lighting, a nice bar, white tablecloths and fine dining prices. At $45, their lasagna is by far the most expensive in town, and their other entrees are all in the mid-$30's to $45, which to me sets a certain expectation. Our service was dismally inattentive, not showing up much, letting drinks sit at the bar too long so they got warm, and letting our pasta sit at the window too long so the cream sauce had a film on it when it arrived. Probably half a dozen workers at all levels just standing around watching things but not doing anything when clearly lots of help was needed, passing our table many times while ignoring my attempt to get their attention for something lacking at my table. When we first met, our server did describe DiMaggio's as casual dining, which would justify any of my complaints, but again $45 entrees? I couldn't take someone I want to impress to DiMaggio's, but also don't want to spend this much for a casual meal. I definitely need to revisit DiMaggio's someday. read more

Made reservations on OpenTable, and requested a booth. Received a text back that they would try and accommodate. No problem. Arrive 30 mins before reservation, and check in. Told by staff that because we asked for a booth we wouldn't be able to be seated until our allotted time, that they needed to clean a booth. No problem. We wait 35 minutes, check back with the hostess's, tell us that our seats are not ready, and would we like a table. They told us that they didn't have a time frame for our booth, so we take the table. As they walk to back of restaurant to be seated, we pass by 2 booths cleaned and ready with no reserved cards on table. Also, only one couple waiting for table that came in after us. Wasn't a crowd at 5:45. So we were given a table as an after thought. Waited about 15 minutes for someone to ask us if we wanted drinks. Once ordered our drinks, he starts to walk away, and we ask him can we order an appetizer. He says sure, so we ordered a cold plate. In the meantime, drinks arrive, the lukewarm martini is served along with the other drinks. Martini wasn't even chilled, but we are trying to enjoying our drinks. But, we wait again for about another 15 mins, and someone brings it out the appetizer, it was good. Waiter checks back and takes our order. We ordered the lasagna, and chicken parm, and another entree. Two of the entrees were a big disappointment. The lasagna was hardly warm. It was mushy noodles. It tasted like leftovers, that had been somewhat reheated. So mushy! The chicken parm was lukewarm as well. The pasta served with it, was about 4 fork fulls. There was plenty of chicken, but very little pasta. The other dish was the best. It was hot, and pasta tasted fresh. Needless to say, we didn't eat much. We had it boxed up, and we left. On our way out, the hostess asked how everything was, told her briefly how disappointing it was. She apologized, and said she would pass it along to management. The tables are very close together. On the small side. For the high prices, the restaurant lacks ambience. I can see at a very busy time that things may not always go as planned, but it wasn't packed at 5:45. Just not impressed. What I liked: the fine dining table setting, it was all very even and seams faced down. The wood-fired oven on the floor with fresh bread coming out. The baked rigatoni was pretty good. And the bartender, who wasn't even our server, was the happiest guy alive. But that's about it. I didn't like the Caesar salad, and the house meatball, calamari, and tomato mozzarella were really no good. There were 9 of us stuffed at a table, which is... eh, fine I guess. But man, we had dishes all over the place that needed clearing. And beyond the table settings and oven, the interior was not special in my opinion. First time going to DiMaggio's since they moved to a new location and I was blown away by the new spot! The ambiance is great and feels like the perfect spot to grab a meal with friends or family. Our server did a great job of explaining all of the dishes and helping us decide on what to order. My favorite dish was the Veal Parmesan, it was pounded very thin and cooked perfectly. The other special, Tortellini, was homemade with a delicious creamy Parmesan sauce. For starters, we loved the house mozzarella, some of the best fresh mozz I've had in Arizona! Went to Di Maggio's and accidentally ordered "the entire comfort-food section" of the menu... no regrets, just a very happy food coma. We started with the bread + olive oil + balsamic, which is basically a trap. You tell yourself "just one piece" and then suddenly the basket is empty and you're bargaining for more like Oliver Twist. The arancini were legit--crispy little rice bombs with a creamy center, perfect with marinara. The Caesar salad was fresh and crunchy with plenty of parm (the kind of salad that almost convinces you you're being responsible). The broccolini was garlicky, tender, and exactly what you need to balance out everything else you're about to do to yourself. Main event: chicken parmesan was the table favorite--big portion, gooey cheese, and a bold red sauce that tastes like it's been simmering for hours. The lasagna was rich, saucy, and comforting in that classic "I should've worn sweatpants" way--layers on layers, lots of cheese, very satisfying. Side note, this is only available on select days. We finished everything off with the cheesecake and even though we were completely stuffed we made room for quite possibly the best cheesecake I've ever had at a restaurant. (My sister still holds the record for best cheesecake.) Why not 5 stars? Our server was a bit forgetful, we had to ask a couple times for bread, sauce, water. In the end a couple bites leaned a little heavy/rich and we were fully stuffed halfway through (not a problem, just a warning--pace yourself unless you enjoy waddling). Overall though, this is a solid go-to spot for a cozy Italian dinner where the food feels generous and the vibe makes you want to linger. We've been dying to try this place after seeing it all over social media and hearing friends rave about it. We finally went last week for my birthday on a Thursday night, and it was absolutely slammed! Definitely make a reservation. The restaurant has indoor, bar, and outdoor seating, all with a great atmosphere. The New York Italian theme really shines through with the red booths, vintage photos, and classic mob-style vibe. Unfortunately, the service was a big disappointment. We sat down at 6:15, ordered cocktails right away, and didn't receive them until about 6:50. We actually saw them sitting on the bar for nearly 15 minutes and had to ask our server where they were. The issues continued when she tried to rush us into ordering dinner before we even had our drinks. After our appetizer, we ordered a bottle of wine, and about 20 minutes later she came back asking if we wanted any other drinks--clearly forgetting the bottle we had already ordered. That said, the food was outstanding and truly made up for the poor service. We started with the clams in white wine sauce, which were incredibly fresh and generously sized. For dinner, we had the Alfredo Diablo and the Chicken Parm, and both were fantastic. The Alfredo was silky and perfectly balanced with Calabrian chilis, while the chicken parm had a bold, garlicky, basil-forward red sauce. We loved both dishes. For dessert, we had the olive oil cake, which was rich, moist, and delicious. We finished with the house-made limoncello and were blown away--it wasn't that artificial bright yellow you usually see, but a light, natural color that clearly showed it was homemade. It was a party of 2 and we were warned up front that the food is all made from scratch so it takes a bit longer for it to come out. Overall was a 2 hour dinner and we were done a little after 8. Took about 20 mins to get a glass of wine and bartender forgot to make my old fashioned so it was another 10 mins to get that after the wine already came. Apps we ordered the fried calamari, which next time wouldn't it order. It was lightly breaded with marinara to dip. It was just ok. Ordered the bocconcini which was pretty good. Gooey melty mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto. It took probably about 30 mins after we finished appetizers for mains to come. The veal parm, which is award winning, was very good. We have been hearing a lot about this restaurant moving to McCormick. The food was delicious. We had the "don"- meatball and it melts in your mouth. The garlic bread was a bit dry though. Mom had chicken parm and was a large portion and fresh marina. Great! I had the scampi and those noodles were out of this world. Not sure why I don't have pics of the food but sadly I don't. A few constructive suggestions would be that the lay out seems to create a frantic flow of the service. There are a lot of employees but everyone seems to be running in a million directions which is a bit of a weird vibe. Lastly, drinks were not good. I had the worst dirty martini ever and the Pinot was ok. The waitress didn't ask and I left the entire drink. The martini was $19 with grey goose so that was a frustrating. Also, we ordered dessert and they ran out of whip cream? Strange. They should add TVs to the bar - cool open bar layout and the TVs would be nice addition for happy hour. Our server Eric gave us the most wonderful food suggestions and service. He was knowledgeable with his wine list and food choices. We enjoyed the Caesar salad with chicken.
