As Rocky says in Project Hail Mary, it was "amaze amaze amaze!" The polenta comes with the meal as a side, and absolutely cheesy and cooked to perfection. Stopped by for dinner with my family while visiting from out-of-town. This isn't a family friendly restaurant. They do not accommodate those with kids with high chair, boosters, special menu or kids cups. Our order was 1 table-side ox Caesar (for 2), 1 ox oysters del giorno, 1 kids gigli, 1 garganelli, 1 sorpresine, 1 8oz Linz Reserve Filet & 2 glasses of Bodyguard by Daou (a Cali red blend). I had originally ordered the gnocchi with beef cheek but the waitress came back around to say they were out of it. So I then tried to order the Puttanesca pasta. She came back again to say they were out of that. I wound up just randomly selecting a different pasta from the menu which wound up being the Sorpresine. Notes on taste of food: the pastas were good. Our child especially enjoyed and ate all of her gigli. The filet was our favorite bite of the night, very flavorful with a bit of char on the outside, perfectly cooked med-rare. The salad was pretty decent too, but if I could re-do it, I would have asked for more lemon/garlic/anchovy. The flavor of the salty fried capers came thru more than the other Caesar salad flavors. The long flat crouton was also stale, too hard and was picked out and not eaten by either of us. 1 of our 4 oysters were spoiled rotten, and almost made my spouse puke. They brought back a replacement oyster and it was also spoiled. The rancidness left a terrible taste in our mouths the rest of the night an we wondered if we'd get sick later in the night (we didn't, thank goodness). The kitchen should be ashamed of this! Maybe I should know better to order something raw in the desert? The complimentary focaccia looked better than it tasted. Focaccia is supposed to be soft and theirs was very disappointing because it was hard in your mouth and lacked any kind of softness. Service was ok, although I did have to request waters and I felt like in general the youthful staff were a bit novice for such an upscale dining atmosphere. Super friendly but HH apps took a minute to come out, and we weren't given tools like napkins or forks without having to be asked. Curious about this as we were maybe one of 10 patrons at the time. Warning- they don't have many, if any, GF options. That means eating your dips and burratas with friends as is- none of that tasty noble bread they serve it with or even an option for cut veggies to scoop. This place is nice and fancy, perfect for a girls catchup, date night, celebration, or just because. There's a well lit and decorated bar area as well as regular tables. We were seated at a small two too, the menus and wine glasses took up most of the surface area. Our server explained the menu to us since neither of us had been before. It's meant to be enjoyed as four courses. We shared the table side Caesar to start and then ordered our gnocchi, cacio e pepe pasta, and half chicken entree. The Caesar salad was delicious- and watching it being prepared was a treat itself. We opted for the anchovies and capers to add a savory touch. The pasta came out next and was delicious. It's a 4oz serving but definitely enough for me with the half chicken which was super tender, juicy and flavorful. It was served with an assortment of dipping sauces plus rich delicious creamy polenta (which I don't typically like) and a couple tortillas. My friend enjoyed her gnocchi too! Well, this is my second time here and I had hoped that I would have a better experience. However, that was not necessarily the case. While there was an improvement with the food, the service was I thought black Lester for an establishment like this. I was never offered bread service until after my meal when I had to stop the bartender and ask for it. The bartender told me oh it's coming fresh out of the oven and I'll get it right out to you. It was not even lukewarm. He lied. It did not come fresh out of the oven because it was not warm whatsoever. Now let's talk about the food. I have the scallops and they were actually delicious. I also have the polenta Caio de Pepe and that was very good. However, after I finished my meal, my dirty plates sat in front of me for an extended period of time. Again, a place of this type of caliber should clear the plates a little more quickly. If I am paying $58 for three scallops, I expect the service to match. Unfortunately, it did not. I was also disappointed with my spicy margarita. They have a housemaid spicy rim that was not that good. I prefer tajin . Overall the food was better than the last time I was here, but the service did not live up to the hype. If you're paying these type of prices you expect better service. I should not have to ask for bread service when is complementary. In fact had I had the bread service before my meal and may not have been quite as hungry after I had three scallops for $58. For my birthday, my boyfriend made reservations for us at Fat Ox, which is a restaurant we have been meaning to go to together! The restaurant has a bar, main dining room area (more modern), a second dining room area (more classic), and a patio. It seemed as if the concept was that the restaurant wants their customers to enjoy the food and eat it by course. The waiter took our drinks and appetizers/starters order, and when we were going to order our main entrees also, he told us he would come back in 30 or so minutes to take that order. My boyfriend has been here and told me that was a first for him, but we did not mind. The table side caesar salad was great and the veal meatballs were so tender. They also brought bread out and I was a huge fan of both butters! The espresso martinis we ordered were not on the drink menu, but they were delicious and very strong! My boyfriend ordered the half brick grilled chicken, and I was a huge fan of everything on the plate -- it was also plated so nice! I am typically not a polenta person, but this one was so good. I am a huge fan of short rib, so I ordered the short rib alla vaccinara (and unfortunately forgot to take a photo of it). It melted in my mouth! I do wish there was more broccolini in the dish because it was very, very minimal. The sound of "celery root purée" scared me, but I enjoyed it a lot! And they were very sweet to give a free little birthday treat at the end of the meal. I want to come back for happy hour! read more

My wife and I started with the Tableside Caesar Salad, then the Affettati Misti (charcuterie board), and shared the branzino. The waiter brought some foccaccia bread with some great butter. The salad was very good. The Affettati Misti was pretty good. It has a LOT more meat than cheese/olives/etc. Some of the blocks of cheese were very firm/hard and difficult to get a piece off, and I would have expected more bread and/or crackers, but the plate was overall good. The branzino was terrific! The skin was very crisp (and surprising not scored pre-cook) and the flavor was fish-forward. The waiter didn't plate the fish, as certainly would have been done in Italy. I asked if he was going to put servings on our plates and he said "I never touch the food." Weird. The fish, however, was perfectly cooked, nice and firm while still flaky. Through it all, I did enjoy some Chianti. The service was OK. The salad maker was good, and the support staff were attentive. Our male waiter seemed more interested in chatting up a female co-worker than keeping a steady eye on his station. While we did enjoy the food, and would recommend that everyone (who can afford it) give it a try, I'm uncertain we will be back because of the price/value. For food we started off with the Caesar salad. For entrees my girlfriend had the half branzino and I had the Wagyu beef cheek gnocchi and the veal meatballs. For our 6 year old we ordered the Gigli. We all really enjoyed our food. Portions sizes were a bit on the small side but we found them to be just what we were looking for. We visited fat ox for dinner on a Wednesday night. This place treated us so well. I called earlier in the day looking to accommodate a larger party that was in town for a conference. They very kindly said they could do 12, but people just kept showing up and we ended up with almost 20. I was so impressed with the grace and kindness that the host and serving staff gave us. Our server said, "just keep in mind that I'll be responsible for the whole party so I'm sorry if things take a little longer" but nothing took longer. She was fantastic, I don't know how she did it. Now let's talk food. We can be a tough crowd, we have a lot of Italians who have a certain theory that their Nona makes the best meatballs, the best pasta, the best etc etc. this place pleased all of them! I heard nothing but good things about the food and cocktails at this place across the 2 tables. I got the beef cheek gnocchi and personally I was very impressed. I would've maybe wanted a bigger portion, but otherwise it was perfect. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the Scottsdale area. Came on a very busy Friday night. The entrance was difficult to navigate with a stroller or wheelchair. The designated wheelchair access is on the side of the building, which was hard to find and inconvenient. Let me start off by saying I've been trying to go to this place for three years so just so happens that the staycation hotel I stayed at for the weekend was five minutes away from the restaurant so I finally made it and it was everything that I had been waiting for. I saw this restaurant on the show best day I ever ate on the Food Network and the feature were the veal meatballs with polenta, so that's what I went there to get and it was incredible. One thing I enjoyed was ordering all of our meal at once and the chef sending out the meal in waves. I loved the handmade pastas, these are a great first course following appetizers. The size isn't too large so they don't fill you up but add a lot of flavor. The Garganelli had an amazing black truffle butter sauce and the pasta was light and held the flavor well. The scallops were another hit for me, these were served with a delicious guanciale sofrito and clam crema that complimented the fish perfectly. Our second time here, and each time it is INCREDIBLE. The food is top notch and so is the service! We got the season waygu beef cheek gnocchi to start. This was the favorite of the night!! So rich and delicious - easily can be shared as a first course. We got 11 gnocchi and a rich beef cheek sauce with a pop of fermented carrots. My husband got the filet. It was cooked perfectly! The Demi was a little sweet but it was delicious. The potatoes were also so yummy! The Calabrian cauliflower was so good but not spicy at all. Honestly the place is very nice and the drinks we great. We came here to celebrate our anniversary and were excited because we heard great things. We came about 30-45 minutes early to have a drink at the bar which was great since it was happy hour. My wife enjoyed her drink and mine was an old fashioned so they are usually good everywhere. After sitting down the waiter asked if we were celebrating and we again informed them we were and then after that everything was pretty poor. Service wasn't great, food was awful for the price $80 for a steak is not crazy these days but the steak was burnt and more well done than medium my wife's fish was bad. To pay well over $300 for dinner you expect a better experience they didn't even offer a toast or desert on the house. Our table was was nicely situated outside on the patio, which was equipped with several heaters. Our waitress was very nice advising us that it best to share a couple of plates and offered for the sommelier to come over to select a bottle of wine to go with our food. After ordering, we were served some focaccia with truffle butter, which was so fluffy and fresh- a perfect way to start the evening. We ordered then ordered the Burrata and the roasted Brussel Sprouts to share. The Burrata came with toasted bread and was fantastic due to the ability to easily taste the prosciutto, mozzarella, and apple all in one bite. For our mains, we shared the gnocchi, which was the literally the best gnocchi because it has the most delicate wagyu that melted in your mouth. The short rib was cooked just as well, where it literally fell apart as you tasted it. Since everything was so good, we had to order dessert. We got the tiramisu and the passionfruit tart. I was surprised that I really enjoyed the passionfruit tart (and highly recommend ordering it!) as opposed to the tiramisu. This is such a cute and romantic place for date night! Indoor sitting was so cute, and outdoor sitting was super cute as well, though we sat inside. Got to try their beef tartare, sword fish, and gnocchi. First of all, complimentary bread was so yummy- it came with mascarpone and butter, i think I could eat those all the time. Just perfect! And beef tartare, I really like beef tartare here, it was perfectly seasoned and they put some sort of citrus I guess it was yuzu or something, that was so refreshing. 3.5/5! This restaurant was pretty good! The different items throughout our meal were kind of hit or miss, but the ones that were a hit were great and made for a net positive. The price point was reasonable for everything we ordered too. First, the complimentary focaccia bread was great. The bread itself was fluffy and I liked the whipped ricotta and Calabrian butter combination. It complemented the heavy oregano/Italian seasoning on the bread well. For drinks: my boyfriend's Old Fashioned was too syrupy and my Spitfire cocktail had a little too much going on with different flavors, but the Sauvignon Blanc and Bordeaux we got later were very good (it's more of a wine bar after all). The oysters were a decent size and nice and briney! The hot sauce added a bit of a kick but not too much. The octopus was cooked perfectly; it was charred on the outside but very tender on the inside. I only wish there was more of the octopus! The beef tartare had a good flavor, but it would've been better with a crostini or cracker. I did not like it with the leek or whatever root/vegetable it was paired with as it detracted from the tartare. We ordered the gnocchi and the short rib for our shared entrees. The gnocchi itself was perfectly pillowy but neither of us were a fan of the topping and flavor. I think this is on us for not reading the fine print, but it tasted like a stew on top of gnocchi, and it was overpowering (I'm also not a stewy or red wine sauce kind of person). The short rib was very tender but didn't have a ton of flavor on the meat or the purée. For dessert, we ordered the butterscotch budino and the tart. These were both amazing, and very rich! For the budino, the cream balanced out the sauce well, and overall it was just so smooth! For the tart, the passion fruit was definitely a kick in the mouth but it was balanced by the meringue. Both desserts had good proportions of cream to flavor to crunchy topping. Probably on the top of my list for desserts in the last year. Overall, the ambiance and service were good. It was a nice restaurant but still somewhat casual, which was nice for our occasion. It was very loud and busy when we got there around 7 (and we were seated near the front and in the middle of everything) but it calmed down about an hour in. I thought it was a little annoying that we had to order all our courses before they would put in our appetizers, as we were hungry to snack but weren't ready for a decision on entrees yet. Fat Ox was on a list of Italian places to hit in Scottsdale. It was literally right across the street from the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Villas where we stayed. We started off w/ veal meatballs and octopus to share. The meatballs were rich and creamy, but at $4/each HH were overpriced (common theme). Likewise, the octopus was nice and tender. But the price was ridiculous for one tentacle. My scallops were like butter, and had a nice crisp on them. Nonetheless, $12/each was pricey IMHO. Lastly, the brussel sprouts were crispy and tart. Our waitress, Miriam was super nice and attentive. Regarding the ambiance, there is a nice bar with high tops, and a main dining room with regular tables. All in all, a positive experience. Wowowow!! Amazing experience here, truly. A wonderful birthday dinner, so happy. I had requested a booth and marked that I am gluten free on my Open Table reservation. We walked in on time and were seated right away at a four top booth, just what I wanted, so my boyfriend and I could sit next to each other!! The restaurant was quite busy so I greatly appreciate having this table set aside. Kristy was our server, and she was wonderful. Very sweet and knowledgeable and brought up me being gluten free right away, saying that the pastry chef is alerted. She talked us through the different cocktails, asking which liquors are my favorite. We decided on a bottle of wine so she had the sommelier come over. He was very nice and knowledgeable and recommended the most delicious 2022 Italian Pinot Noir. It did take a while for the wine to come out but there's only one sommelier so I get he's busy! It was fun drinking out of the huge wine glasses. Typically it seems people order an app and/or pasta dish and then a main entree. Kristy talked through all the gf options, in which one pasta the truffle one could be made gluten free which was nice to know! They do not have gluten free bread, sad! My boyfriend loved loved the complimentary bread that came out and the roasted red pepper butter. We decided just to order our mains, I got the half chicken and he got the full chicken. My chicken came out with pita bread on it, which I cannot eat. I got a new dish right away, not sure if they just took the bread off or gave me a new plate. The polenta was outstanding, so decadent, rich, cheesy. It was almost a cool temperature when it came out though, as if it had been sitting for a while. The chicken was so juicy and tender, big fan. I ate it with the caramelized onions (YUM YUM) and delicious white creamy tangy sauce the dish came with (I think you were supposed to eat the pita bread with those sides but I could not obviously). It would've been nice to have another option in place of the pita bread since it's a nice restaurant, but it was a lot of food regardless. There was also a cute little bottle of hot sauce for the chicken. It wasn't too spicy !! There was a gluten free tiramisu brought out for my birthday, with an espresso ice cream and chocolate espresso balls. It was so frickin good.
