Fabulous Italian restaurant in Scottsdale that's casual but serving up some stellar Italian food and drinks. Like others, I found this restaurant watching reels/foodie videos from Matt from the Bachelor. He made it look so good that I had to stop in. I love a saucy pasta and garlic bread combo so I knew this place had to be good. The restaurant itself is very unassuming and off the main drag. You can't really see it from the busy Main Street so definitely use your GPS or you'll miss it. Signage was clear and plenty of street parking once we found it. I made a reservation so it was easy in and we were seated immediately. You don't necessarily need a reservation from what I could tell but on a Friday night this spot was 80% full so still wouldn't hurt. Service was great. Our waiter was attentive and the bus boys worked hard making sure our glasses were filled and plates cleared regularly. The staff give family vibes and I was very happy with the service. The menu was great, I was impressed. Plenty of appetizers, salads, pastas, and mains. We all agreed it was hard to pick what to get as everything sounded really good. That's always a good problem to have in my books. The food was exceptional and easily 5 stars. Between four women we all loved our dishes and we all ordered pretty different types of dishes. We devoured our plates and everyone raved about the food. I had the pesto chicken pasta and it was creamy and delicious. Such good flavor. Would definitely recommend if you love a creamy pesto. I tried the ravioli dish and while plain, it was good - traditional. The garlic bread was a home run. Loved dipping it in my leftover sauce and omg so tasty. I also had one of the best "simple" cocktails I've had in a while. I highly recommend you get the limoncello margarita. It was sweet, refreshing, and strong. I'm obsessed with how good it tasted. Presentation could have used a little work - it was dull - needed a preserved lemon slice or wedge but honestly it was so good it made up for the lack of sparkle. If you are in Scottsdale and looking for a casual but delicious Italian restaurant this one is a must! It has a niche classy Italian hole in the wall vibe, but I wasn't feeling too optimistic walking in on a Saturday night at 6 PM and there was only one other table in the entire restaurant with people dining. The staff was fine, the younger boy bringing water was on top of his game. But unfortunately, the food missed the mark. I asked for my chicken Parmesan with light sauce, I even made sure he heard me. But unfortunately it came out with extra extra sauce. (+ The tomato sauce had quite an acidic taste.) When I asked if there was a way to get a dish with less sauce, he said yes I'll take it to the back and scrape some off. Yikes! The calamari was very chewy and lacked flavor. Why is this place not packed every weekend?!!! The food is authentic Northern Italian. The Gnocchi was phenomenal. Have to go back for that alone. Had the seafood risotto. Perfectly cooked. The black linguini Friti Di Mari had a slight kick to it. This is our go to place when we have last minute craving for good Italian. The service was above average. Waiter was always there when we needed him, and not hovering over us. Good value for the high quality of the food and service. So I came to this restaurant because a food influencer I follow on instagram recommended it, even quoted that the penne vodka is the best he's ever had. Now I know that's a really bold statement to make so I guess you could say that made me have super high expectations. Reservation was set for 630 and we got there a half hour early. The restaurant was pretty empty at this point so they were able to seat us early. Ordered our appetizers which were both SO tasty. As far as entrees, we ordered garlic bread to share, as well as the pesto pasta and penne vodka. The pesto pasta was amazing, I really had no complaints about it whatsoever. The penne vodka on the other hand tasted bland to me. I've had some really really amazing vodka sauce in other places, and this place just did not compare at all. That being said, it was still good enough to eat. The reason the place got 3 stars is mainly due to service. I'd say we sat around 6:15 and got our appetizers close to 6:30? After that, our entrees didn't come out until 7:15. 45 minute wait in a restaurant that wasn't busy at all when we sat down. I thought that was a really really long time. On top of that, not a single person came to the table to check on us during that time period to tell us anything about the food coming soon or the status etc. someone did come to us 2 minutes before the food was coming to say your food is being plated. Jazz music playing the background, and a cozy dining room was ample booth seating as well as tables. Was somewhat slow night and service was generally attentive and friendly. La Locanda reminds me of the mom and pop Italian restaurants we grew up on as a kid in Milwaukee. Like smack your mama good Italian. I'm not familiar with Scottsdale, but La Locanda is a hidden gem if people aren't aware of them. A lot to choose from on the menu and wish I was staying longer in Scottsdale because we would go back. The only negative thing we could think of was the scallop risotto only came with 3 scallops with how big of a portion of the risotto was. I lived here many years I have frequented La Locanda for many years. But never at this location. My first time there the food was absolutely 1 1/2 star. one star they give me red sauce rigatoni as a side instead of proper linguine on a chicken piccata plate. And the red sauce pasta was absolutely grocery store quality. The chicken was so tough I could barely cut through it. And I asked for some garlic bread and the server didn't tell me that the garlic bread was an entire loaf. A whole loaf of garlic bread for one woman having a quick meal. Unfortunately the garlic bread wasn't very good either. The piccata sauce was good, not great. But good enough that if every single other thing wasn't awful I wouldn't be make this review . Sadly enough I work in hospitality and this is one of my number one go to restaurants to send people to. Because I remember it used to be delicious it used to be fresh it used to be amazing. I can't even count how many people have sent to this s*** hole now. The old owner manager Andre was an absolute gem and this food used to be phenomenal.
