Have not been back to Anhelo since they were initially in Dowtown Phoenix. Overall this new location in Scottsdale is a nice refresh. The patio is beautiful but the inside lacked something, perhaps better lighting? Food wise, they had a fixed course and it was quite delicious. The thing that made me sad is they didn't have the beef Wellington which is my favorite dish there. One more thing is the wine selections were quite impressive. Service was amazing, very accommodating as we were seated indoors first and asked if we could be seated in the patio area with no issues.

(4/5) My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary at Anhelo Restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale, and it was a truly memorable evening. We'd been wanting to try Anhelo ever since it first opened in downtown Phoenix, so when they moved closer to home, it was finally time -- and it did not disappoint. Atmosphere: The space is absolutely stunning. Scottsdale needs more restaurant designs like this -- modern, moody, and elegant, with "fine dining from The Bear" vibes. It manages to feel both sophisticated and comfortable, setting the stage perfectly for a special occasion. Service: Top-notch from start to finish. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and clearly cared about our experience. Several team members congratulated us on our anniversary, and Chef Ivan even sent over a complimentary glass of champagne -- a thoughtful touch that really stood out. Drinks: Their wine list is exceptional. Hats off to the wine director for curating such a deep and diverse list at refreshingly fair prices (especially for Scottsdale). I enjoyed a glass of Pierre Peters Blanc de Blancs Champagne, while my wife loved her crafted cocktail -- beautifully presented and perfectly balanced. Food: Anhelo offers a tasting menu-only experience, with three menu formats the night we dined (soon changing to one or two). We opted for the petit tasting, which was the perfect amount of food -- beautifully plated, inventive, and delicious from start to finish. Each course was thoughtful and refined, the kind of dishes that make you feel like you're dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Napa or NYC, not Arizona. Where it fell just shy of a perfect 5: My wife has a gluten allergy, which I had noted at booking and confirmed twice with staff before our dinner. While every dish she received was made gluten-free, it felt a bit reactive rather than fully integrated into the menu. For example, there was no GF bread substitute for the standard bread service, and the caviar course we ordered was ultimately canceled because there wasn't a suitable GF "vessel." Later, her entrée -- originally the lobster tortellini -- arrived reimagined as a shrimp dish without prior notice. It was delicious, but understandably a bit of a surprise when expecting lobster. To be clear, this feedback is highly specific to our situation and doesn't detract from what was otherwise a stellar experience. For most guests, Anhelo will deliver a flawless fine-dining evening. Overall: Anhelo is one of the most exciting culinary experiences in Arizona right now -- incredible food, impeccable service, and a dining room that feels special the moment you walk in. We'll absolutely be back and look forward to seeing how this talented team continues to evolve.

Killer scallops

This tasting menu was something truly special refined, thoughtful, and unlike anything I've experienced in Arizona. It balanced luxury with restraint: fragrant truffles and caviar, beautifully marbled wagyu, expertly dry-aged lamb and duck, delicate handmade pasta, clean, vibrant crudo, freshly foraged mushrooms, and scallops cooked with quiet confidence. Nothing felt overdone just incredibly well executed, course after course. The wine pairings elevated everything without stealing the spotlight. A glass of Dom set the tone, followed by standout selections from Domaine Denis Bachelet, Domaine Henri Boillot, and Domaine de l'Arlot. Vieux Château Certan brought depth and structure, and the evening closed with a memorable Gaja Barbaresco that lingered long after the last bite. Home run for our friends 50th! Deeply satisfying, beautifully paired, and genuinely exceptional. A meal that felt rare for Arizona, and one I'll be thinking about for a long time.

The ambiance and service was 5/5 incredible. The tasting menu was pretty, but lacking salt. The risotto was undercooked and watery, chicken dish was bland, hamachi ceviche lacked in flavor... the foie gras and the duck (perfectly cooked and interesting flavor) were the stars of the evening. The consensus was that we would return to have a bottle of wine on the beautiful patio - but would pass on the food. Quite honestly - we were disappointed. Sorry Anhelo.

This is such a great experience. The food and service is great. We went with the the petite tasting and it was still so much food. Also their little bday ice cream is incredible.

Great wine and cocktails!

Total Vibes. Best atmosphere. They just opened for brunch, and drinks and wine list are incredible. Great little bites for sharing as well if you aren't super hungry. The larger brunch meals look good too. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. A must try!!!

Scallop

Let me start off by admitting that I'm a little bit of a fine dining snob. I don't mind paying the elevated prices that go along with a truly fine dining experience, but I look for the big three... Outstanding food, paired with outstanding service, in an upscale setting. Unfortunately, Anhelo only delivered on one of the three criteria, in our humble opinion/s. We were a party of 4 dining on a Saturday evening. The restaurant offers an outstanding atmosphere. The valet is conveniently located right next to the entrance of the restaurant which is a walkway through a garden patio. The inside dining area enjoys clean, crisp, pale-colored decor with upscale lighting and beautifully arranged tables. There are only 12 to 14 tables so the setting is intimate and not too loud to hold comfortable conversation. The (new) location only offers limited tasting menus (Petit, Vegetarian & Chef's) which was fine. They had an extensive wine list and you could pair your meal with the chef or sommelier's recommendations (for an additional cost). We chose a wine from the Wine List (a Cab from Realm Cellars). We elected to add on caviar service with our chef's tasting. We were quickly disappointed in doing so as the caviar was overwhelmingly fishy and served with mini banana pancakes. The sweetness from the banana was a bit too much and therefore the two flavors did not couple well. Each one of the courses was well prepared, but I found that five of the eight really lacked flavor. The duck and chawanmushi were delicious and paired with excellent "sauces". We enjoyed the scallops as well. The lobster tortellini was especially disappointing as there was no hint of lobster in the bite. Also, we found the 72 hour short rib to be a tad too dry and lacking in flavor, and the A5 Wagyu was prepared perfectly, but it too lacked flavor. To be fair, I've never had Australian Wagyu so that may be a nod to the region. The cheesecake dessert felt more like a sorbet with cheesecake flavoring. We also opted to take part in the Old-Fashioned Cocktail cart service which left us underwhelmed as we had to explain the bourbons to the young lady serving us. Finally, the service was hit-and-miss throughout the evening. We appreciated that there was a server for each one of us every time an item was being delivered to the table. However, our primary server did not seem to have a good grasp of the menu items when delivering their descriptions. We also had to remind him when we were waiting on drinks. And overall, he was not very engaging with us. Bottom line... If you're going to spend this kind of money and you're in the Scottsdale area, we would suggest Christopher's @ Wrigley Mansion (ask for Daniel, the wine director, during your visit... you won't be sorry) or even Maple and Ash.

Service a 5, ambiance 4.5, food 3.5. Big city feel in the best way, a truly fine dining experience. The reviews obviously speak for themselves, so I had high expectations at Anhelo. The menu sealed in wax and the butter rose to start are things you just don't find anywhere else in AZ - really cool. But the food was just too hit or miss to blow my socks off about the whole experience. The tartare was quite nice and flavorful, as was the crudo. The 2nd course corn dish was awful - the stale tasting popcorn was so strange all over the bland corn stuffed pasta. The loaded potato was different and just ok, but much better with the chips which there were only 3 of. More chips! This should absolutely come on the plate with the Wellington as it would be much better with the steak. For the mains, the scallops were excellent, but I was underwhelmed by the beef Wellington. Medium rare was more like medium/medium well. Perhaps their sous vide is the only way to make a beef Wellington, but I found the boiled consistency of the steak to be lackluster at best. I had to drown it in the glaze for it to work, then left feeling like a salt bomb the rest of the night. When you can make a better steak at home, it's a miss. Dessert was passed on as the non exciting options were limited/weak IMO. Martinis were excellent! It was quite loud inside and the music was as well - definitely noticeable throughout the meal. Overall a spot to try, just recommend staying away from the corn and wellington.

First off, the ambience and decoration was on point. Right when you walk in you feel special with a welcome champagne when seated and continuous excellent service throughout the night 5/5 As for the menu, we were given a choice of either three course or seven course meal. Keep in mind that each entrée comes out in increments of 15-20 minutes, so be prepared to wait. And we ended up deciding to go with the three course meal. First course- Crudo and steak tartare was on point. The fish was soft and buttery, and the juice was not too sour. Perfect! Steak tartare was also great, but wish it was cut a little smaller and maybe mixed with more egg yolk ... but that's just a personal preference. No point deduction =) 2nd course- croquette & Tuna. Point deduction on both dishes. Tuna with a gravy sauce ? Not sure what's going on with the chefs taste, but not a good mixture. To make matters worst.. it reminded me of KFC gravy. 3rd- beef Wellington. Major point deduction here especially being the most expensive selection on the menu. Beef was over cooked, salty, and more medium well than medium rare. BUT !!!! Where is the layer of prosciutto and mushroom??? Literally steak wrapped with crust which by the way, was not even flaky. Star of the night: service, scallops (my friends)

Anhelo has been on my list of restaurants to try since before it moved to this location and it did not disappoint. Service was impeccable and ran like a well oiled machine. Everybody was so professional but welcoming as soon as we walked in the door all the way through our last course. The interior was dimly lit and set a romantic ambiance. The food was delicious. Each course was different and unique and the wine pairing added something to each course. This was an amazing treat and a great location to celebrate.

Fine dining in its truest form, Anhelo is an incredible culinary experience and one that I haven't experienced elsewhere in Phoenix. Refined, elegant, traditional fine dining is how I would describe our experience here. To begin, there seemed to more staff serving than customers eating. The attentiveness, organization, and fluidity between every team member was impressive. It was like watching the Phoenix Suns run their offense. Everyone and everything was cohesive. Poetry in motion. Our meal was 3 courses: First course: steak tar tar. Haven't had much steak tar tar in my life but this was easily the best I've ever had - and my favorite dish I had here (out of the 6 I tried). Second course: salmon. incredibly delicious. The sauce was amazing. The salmon cut was about the size of my big toe. I wished it was bigger. Third Course: pork tenderloin. This was the most underwhelming dish out of the 6 I had had. My filet was on the fattier side. It was cooked perfectly though, and the sweet potato purée was novel and unique. In retrospect, I should have tried the beef Wellington- $100 though? An expensive meal, but completely worth it. As I mentioned previously, come to Anhelo for a fine dining experience downtown PHX. You're in for a treat.

Chefs Tasting Menu - July 2024

We tried the chefs tasting menu and the wine pairing. Summary: The service was excellent from start to finish and the meal was delicious but I would skip the duck roulade next time. The wines were all wonderful and paired well. The pours were appropriately small enough for a pairing menu to enjoy with each course and not end up being drunk. The favorite of the night was definitely the beef Wellington. I would come back just to have that again. The salad also started the menu off well and the sorbet hidden in the salad was a nice and refreshing surprise. The crudo and dry aged tuna were also amazing and enjoyed even by those non-seafood people at the table. Other highlights included the butter artistically displayed like a flower with the bread and the tomato-based risotto was a first for me. The foie gras seemed a little lighter to me, more like a pate, but still delicious with the brioche. Unfortunately, duck roulade also stood out for the wrong reasons. It was very hard and dry on the outside, but the mushrooms and other accompaniments were good. I wasn't alone in disliking that course. It was the only one that ended up not getting finished at our table. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and the staff went above and beyond at every point throughout.

We were looking for a romantic date spot in downtown PHX and heard about Anhelo. You will notice when you walk in that this restaurant has a very classy and elegant ambience with an open kitchen concept and beautiful bar design. When you sit down at your table, you will notice a folded envelope on your plate which is your menu that often features new dishes. The service here is fantastic and they check in on you frequently to make sure you're taken care of. For appetizer, we ordered the Spanish Octopus which was very flavorful. For entrees, we ordered the Scallops which were delicious but we came here for the signature meal which is the Beef Wellington. Personally, the Beef Wellington is one of the most unique dishes I've had in a while at an upscale restaurant and this is an absolute MUST try entrée. Overall, if you want a romantic fine dining experience then this is the best upscale restaurant in downtown Phoenix to try. We will definitely be coming back here again!

How is this place good for breakfast and brunch if it doesn't open during the day? I am confused.

I think the Yelp description is wrong. It is also tied to the old catering business, Hidden Kitchen which I think offered catered breakfast/brunch. Great for dinner though. Delicious and approachable. The chef is amazing.

I opted for a Tito's dirty martini which is my favorite drink. They enjoyed the beer flights but unfortunately when my martini was delivered, I swore the glass hadn't been properly washed as it had a sweet, coffee taste. I let our server know and she immediately took it and said she would make another which was great. I did see her grab a new glass. Unfortunately the new martini tasted exactly the same. Almost like a terrible espresso martini with olive juice. It was not drinkable. Either she didn't know how to make a dirty martini or the olive juice or vermouth went bad. I couldn't stomach the drink and felt nauseous so left it. We ordered a Chef's Board. Cheese selections, plus pepperoni, salami, prosciutto, mixed nuts & fruits, olives and fig jam. They missed the nuts, fruit and olives. The meat and cheese were good but it was a basic board. We should have ordered the pizza instead as everyone around us had a pizza and it smelled delicious. Our first visit was not the best experience, however, we may give it another try and check out the pizza instead.
