The self-appointed king of speakeasies is back at it with another one. I stopped by The Goose on a Tuesday at 7. Parking is a cinch in the complimentary lot they share with several other businesses. Ambiance (3/5): Hint hint. The Goose is located inside Crust Simply Italian. You can get in one of two ways. Either through the restaurant or from the outside. I went through the inside. Look at the pic I shared to help you find the right door. Once you get inside, it's a pretty small speakeasy. It's nice, but also doesn't stand out in any way. We sat at the bar. There are also some comfortable chairs and tables if that's more your vibe. Service (4/5): Friendly, attentive service throughout. They did upsell us on the food, but overall, solid. A customer got kicked out while we were there. We didn't quite hear what happened to lead to the situation, but either way, a bit of a weird situation. I imagine it's a rare occurrence. Food (4/5): The food comes from the Italian restaurant and they have a nice menu of appetizers, pizzas (or pizettes), and dessert. I wasn't terribly hungry so we split a fig and ricotta pizette. We added crispy prosciutto. And we had the gluten-free version. Normally, I wouldn't order gluten-free but I was with someone who's diet required it. While it obviously wasn't as good as regular dough, it exceeded my expectations. The prosciutto gave a nice crunch to the dish. Drinks (4/5): At a speakeasy, I'm expecting a creative cocktail list with an interesting blend of spirits and flavors. While The Goose has some standard cocktails, like a Oaxaca old fashioned, they also have a section of their menu that focuses on their creations (many of which have bird-themed names). I tried three of the menu and they were all quality, sophisticated cocktails. Exactly what I was hoping for! The Goose is owned by the same people as Ostrich Bar and Alchemy 48. While I haven't been to Alchemy, Ostrich is one of my favorite speakeasies in town. I like it better than Ostrich, partially because their menu is more extensive and it's a larger establishment, but nevertheless, The Goose is a quality speakeasy. read more

It took us a minute to figure out how to get into this place Apparently there are several entrances but we were told, we did come through the front entrance Tucked away in this development, you will find signs leading you to the entrance which was very clever. The atmosphere is so intimate. I love sweet cocktails and asked the waiter what would he recommend. He recommended The Clover. I was very hesitant because it had Gin in it and questioned him but decided to trust him. Boy am I glad I did, it was the most beautiful and tastiest drink I have experienced. I ordered the Shrimp Oreganata along with the Truffle Fries while my friend ordered the the Chicken Alla Vodka (side note, there is no pasta!) Everything was so delicious. I cleaned my plate. The theme of The Goose followed throughout from the check that is bought out in a little nest to a pen that had feathers, I truly appreciated the little details and how everything came together. The Goose is on the Loose....well only if you drink too much at this speakeasy. This speakeasy has a cool relaxing vibe. Once you find your way to the speakeasy, you'll be greeted with a room that offers small intimate tables and a long bar. The offerings for drinks are amazing: some classic and others spin offs to play off the theme of the speakeasy. All of the drinks sounds amazing, so hard to choose. And you need to choose wisely as drinks are about 20 dollars. Our bartender was amazing on Monday. Super friendly and accommodating. We appreciated learning about all the speakeasy from him. The Speakeasy does provide food from the next door restaurant. The menu has an Italian focus. During peak season in AZ and weekends make sure you make a reservation. If joining the speakeasy during their opening time, you should be ok without a reservation weekdays. Note this speakeasy is part of a group of speakeasy's that each offer their own character. Date night approved! My hubby booked a reservation at The Goose, and they did not disappoint. We love a whiskey forward speakeasy, and they have a ton of delicious cocktails on the menu. Secretly nestled behind Crust, The Goose offers some delicious bites & desserts. My favorite drink of the night was the "Down Comforter". This was nutty pistachio & chocolate old fashioned, and it was incredible. All of the food we tried was tasty. The garlic shrimp actually paired well with the Mediterranean salad. I also enjoyed the calamari, as it was lightly breaded and served with spicy marinara sauce. Do not skip the butter cake. It is warm, ooey gooey, and has a scoop of ice cream on top. Came to the Goose with a few people for a going away party. The door was very difficult to find. You had to go through Crust Pizza then through the server side station where there's a door labeled employee entrance. I guess this may have been the point they were trying to make as a speakeasy feel. Once I finally found the place, decor was beautiful. Chandeliers and the back bar was beautifully lit with a slight gold tones. Food was beautifully presented but taste was just ok for me. The server took about 20 minutes to take the cocktail order then took another 15 minutes to deliver the cocktails for all of us. Throughout the experience the server hardly came by and checked on us. We had to ask for waters to be filled repeatedly. There was 5 of us but table was only set for 4 and it took 3 requests to bring an extra glass and place setting for the 5the person. All in all, service was not too attentive and felt forgotten but there were 3 staff members just huddled around the entry door. It's not a bad place to get cocktails but the service culture can be improved. read more

We had the worst experience here tonight, and it's a shame we won't ever come back because we loved this place. It started this morning when we went on the website to see if they were 21 and over. It does not say anywhere on their website that they are, so we called to make a reservation. We did this over the phone because we wanted to specifically ask the hostess if The Goose is 21 and over because my son, who is home from college was coming with us. The girl answering the phone this morning at 10:45a insisted we could bring him with. My husband even confirmed with her AGAIN that he could join even though he is not 21, and she said he could, and SHE made the reservation over the phone with him. Flash forward to 5:30p this afternoon, we arrive for my birthday dinner, and I'm so excited. My son arrived after us, and a server stopped him to say he can't come in. We assured her we TRIPLE CHECKED with their morning staff, and so she called over the manager. This is where it went south. The manager was atrocious. She had zero managerial skills and refused to listen to any word we said and just kept saying he could not come in. We tried to explain that their staff was the one who set up the reservation, but she was so rude and would not even admit that they could have messed up. They did mess up, and they had every opportunity to make it right, and instead the manager acted like we were in the wrong. It was embarrassing , and it was humiliating to be treated that way when they messed up and when it was supposed to be a special night out. If their manager had simply said, "I'm so sorry, let us make this right," we would have stayed. Instead, the manager's poor training of their employees became her shaming us and treating us horribly. I would like to say this in no way reflects the bartender or the server who was there. Both of them are phenomenal. Their manager is absolutely terrible and could use some training in how to treat people. I would be more upset if we had not left because we ended up having the most amazing night at The Collins with the best customer service around. It showed us that there is better service out there (really close by), and that we will never return to somewhere that treats customers like this. read more

I love a solid speakeasy and hadn't been to one in so long! This one is inside crust, which actually is right by my first official apartment that my husband and I had together, so it's always fun to revisit the area! There was a couple little signs outside, and later we as people entering from the back, but we had a host lead us through the other entrance through the restaurant. Really cool vibes in here and we loved the funky goose wallpaper. They have a really fun bar area with cool decor, but my husband and I sat at a booth! Tucked just around the corner from Crust, The Goose Speakeasy is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stumbled upon something truly special--once you find it! My one complaint I that that this place has rich classy vibes but the door to the speakeasy is in an alley with rat traps I wish they would change the door to up front. They have goose decorations or of the like throughout the speakeasy, love it! It's darker in there, upscale vibes yet you can still dress business casual ish (like jeans and a nice top). The drinks are on theme with fun names. Me and my cousin's bf got their most popular drink OnlyFeathers, a passion fruit lemon juice drink with a Prosecco finish. Sooo good, sweet and tart. My bf and my cousin got the espresso martini and enjoyed it a lot as well. It wasn't busy at 9pm on a Saturday night, we imagined it would get busier later but it's also in a more residential area. We planned to celebrate our friend's birthday who loves speakeasy. We narrowed it to The goose which belongs to the crust Italian kitchen. They have another one in chandler called the Ostrich. We went on a Friday night and had made our reservations. We walked in to a busy restaurant and the waiter lead us to the speak easy behind the Kitchen area of the restaurant. The space is hidden but unlike a dark speakeasy, this one was bright but beautifully done. Loved the whole vibe & our waiter who was all retro with her looks! We ordered a bunch of things from their craft cocktails to tequilas and our favorite was the wet my beak, nene and the mango. Unlike other speakeasy they have food which is a plus and is from next door. We loved the flat bread specially the Lombardi. Margarita was decent. Shrimp oreganata and truffle fries is a must try. Overall the pricing is average and the quantity good, service exceptional. We had a blast and a great time. They also gave free shots to celebrate the birthday. Isn't that the sweetest gesture.
