This place is SO retro! They have the coolest punny pins, a fun atmosphere, and really nice employees! They were super apologetic because their ice cream machine wasn't working, but honestly, it worked out because I got to try something I've NEVER had before...Red Root Beer! Hubby & I had dinner here last night. It reminded me of a fast food restaurant, but you can get alcohol. Hubby got a beer on draft. I wanted a Tito & cranberry juice. They don't have juice, so I got it in unsweetened iced tea. We ordered the dry rubbed wings & an order of fries to share. Hubby got the classic burger. I got the double burger no grilled onion & no pickles.Hubby wanted Mayo on his as well, but they don't have Mayo. The food came pretty quickly. It was't busy. The wings had a really good flavor. They were good. The fries were okay. They have the batter on them to help make them crispy. Neither one of us really enjoyed our burger. Hubby said his didn't have hardy any condiments on his. It also didn't have much onion or pickles. Mine didn't have hardly any sauce on it. It gross me out that the middle of my burger was raw. Not sure how that happened with such thin patties. This place is cute! I stopped by around 2 on a weekday and it was pretty busy. It has a fun, modernized diner vibe. I don't go out for burgers much because I generally find them disappointing, but this one was great. I got the classic and it was like a perfected fast food burger. I like that they use quality meat. The waffle fries were tasty and the ranch is definitely made there. I'd have liked to try their vanilla with olive oil soft serve but I was too full. Another time! They also have a full bar but I didn't check out the drink menu. Its not cheap because what is these days and they use really high quality ingredients. This place was an absolute rockstar from the moment of walking in the red aesthetics are really cool and I really enjoyed the music background as it was alternative music metal rock not sure if they always play that but they did when I was there and it was a vibe. The food was really good. It was honestly one of the best smash burgers I've had. I got the double burger with bacon on it and it was honestly a 10/10 everybody was just insanely good. I also tried the fries. Honestly, the fries were really nice and crispy and they had a really good flavor. I kept getting videos about this place on TikTok so I had to come and try it out. We got 2 double burgers, they looked like simple burgers but the flavor of them was amazing. This was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. Also I forgot to mention, it was my first time trying a smash burger. We also got some fries and the 6 piece of buffalo wings. The fries had so much flavor as well, it was insane. The wings had a smokey flavor and the buffalo sauce had a little spice to it, so it gave it a kick. This has been on my list to try for a while and my husband and I finally did! My husband got their double cheeseburger and was a fan. He said it tasted like if shake shack and in-n-out had a baby. Finally stopped in to try the iconic Bad Jimmys! Was so excited when the Tempe location opened up. Love the dark / red retro interior. My husband ordered the Classic Double burger and I got the Green Chile Burger on special. I only like smash burger style Patties so these are the perfect burgers for me. There were green Chiles oozing out of my burger, sooo perfect if you're a green chile lover like me. The side of fries are a pretty large portion ($5), so we probably would have been fine sharing one. The staff were amazing, I appreciated that they checked in on us even after bringing out our food. The Good: The food was honestly great. It's hard to find anyone willing to make a pastrami burger anymore. The LA Burg is a solid 8/10. Having a true diner experience with glass bottled Cokes is an underutilized touch I wish more restaurants would have. The Bad: The only thing that soured the experience was the service. I sat at the bar on a Saturday evening. The bar tender was a young college kid who was on his phone more than I was. He rarely checked in and seemed more occupied with his phone than service. I'm not sure if they have to refrigerate all of their ketchup packets, but he gave me a handful of cold ketchup. But what I'd say what hurt his hospitality was asking me directly if I wanted the bill to check out. The burger just tasted flat, it was basic meat cheese and the onion was over powering. The fries were awesome, perfectly crispy in the outside and thick and soft on the inside! The place has a cool retro aesthetic, action figures and such, perfect for being close to the university. As with all other places in the area, parking is limited. Three point turn for a truck to get in and out. My friend and I each ordered a double burger and wings. I got the Tennessee dry rub and he got the classic wing sauce. Now, I love a good smash burger and these were tasty, but I can still get a, equally good smash burger with all the toppings (lettuce, tomato, onions, special sauce) from Freddy's steakburger with fries and a drink for the same price. The wings tho......fire. Classic wing flavor - okay. Tenessee dry rub...ooooh baby. Those were top tier flavor and I will be returning to have those again. The smoke really sets it off. A must try. Staff were good - friendly enough but I wouldn't come here if I was looking to chat with the bartender like you would at your neighborhood spot. Location just opened today and usually I wait a few weeks before I go to a new place but did not look too crowded today and decided to check it out. Interior decor is much like a 1950's sort of burger joint, including red plastic backing for some booths and along the seating area (looked very cool). Ordered the regular double and order of fries and they give you a number card if you are eating in and they drop it off (which is great). Burger was great - classic smashburger and great potato bun, and fries are spiced waffle fries - ketchup is in little packets (Heinz) and they give you a handful when they bring your order of fries but a big bucket of them next to the order counter. I'm in my late 50s so don't eat too many burgers anymore, but when I do, I'll come here - classic double burger was $12, and the order of fries as $5, and soda cup is around $3 to $4 (I think), around $20 before tax, for the whole meal. Place also includes a full bar area with both draft beer and liquor - not much of a drinker anymore but if I was to have a beer, or a drink, this would be a good place to have one, while having a burger - they do have a bike rack, for up to four bicycles - so that is great, but also a fair amount of parking (but if you live in the area, easy to ride your bike over, like me). I also found the staff to be polite and efficient - just a great experience overall - also went and checked out the bathrooms - very clean and non-gender specific (no sign as to such but you get the idea) - bathrooms have a toilet and a full classic urinal and a full sink - no code needed but no good way to see if the door is locked or not (gently check the handle?) - suffice to say, I like the place and a great additional to the culinary makeup of the area - good food at a decent price! read more
