So my friends and I gathered here for happy hour to celebrate my birthday and we had so much fun! While their happy hour ends quite early, 5 PM, some of us were able to squeeze in a drink or two before the deadline, we shared the crisps (amazing) and the ceviche was yummy too. I've uploaded the HH menu so you can take a look Service was attentive without being intrusive- lots of laughs were had by all. It's a great place for groups too

We went to the new Blanco location around 8:30 on. Thursday night following a meeting. Everybody enjoyed their food. I ordered the grilled chicken fajitas, and they were so yummy! The sauce was perfect when mixed with the veggies even though at first it seems like a lot. It was not too spicy. The meat was great and there are lots of good options for all diets and preferences. The service was also fantastic. The servers were very busy so they sent someone else on staff to let us know when we sat down and grab us water while we waited. Everything was brought out quickly and they even remembered where to put each dish. It was a nice, mid-scale casual ambiance that was perfect for the later night. Seating was comfortable and was available inside or outside. All three of us agreed we would come back.

Didn't love the food here! Food was below average tasting. Just bland, tasteless, and boring! I went to the Blanco in Phoenix a while back and had their slow cooked pork tacos, which were dreamy, but that item is no longer on the menu. Too bad, so sad... Giving 3 stars since our server was very nice and accommodating to my husband's celiac disease. Even though she was not knowledgeable about the menu, she She made sure to ask the right person to prevent my husband from being poisoned with gluten! I do remember the Rosa Bonita margarita being delicious! And it's a great, happening place for just cocktails!

We had such a fun night Here on our last night in phoenix. Chips salsa guac all great. Can be a little loud, but has a young vibe being so close to the college. Our server was kind, had great recs, and was attentive.

I'm a big fan of all Blanco restaurants... so I was excited to finally get over to the Tempe location which is fairly close to me! There's a cool ambiance in this restaurant with an open-air setting. This place will be great to enjoy on spring and fall afternoons... especially during happy hour! We sat at the bar and despite being a busy afternoon, a bartender attended to us pretty quickly! I got started with the Rosa Bonita Margarita - it was an excellent choice and I would order it again! Slightly fruity and sweet... and 100% delicious! For food, I'm a sucker for Blanco's chips and salsa... so I indulged in plenty of those! I was between a couple entree options, so I asked the bartender which ones were both gluten-free... but she was not sure. I appreciated that she went to the kitchen to ask. I ended up ordering the Short Rib Machaca Bowl. It was good, but I probably would not order it again. Overall rating: ****FOUR STARS**** Gluten-free rating: ****FOUR STARS****

Solid Mexican food! The skinny margaritas are really delicious however if you don't like spice, do not get the tajin rim. The tajin is house made and it is SPICY AF! I hardly survived haha The chips and salsa are really good and the enchiladas plate was a total hit!

Great service and great food. Cute area in the Novus place, good area for kids to hang out in the lawn.

Blanco Cocina is always a great visit. We were near the Tempe location and having tried the Phoenix location we knew it would be worth the visit. We were there in the early afternoon and there was plenty of seating and fast and friendly service. The ambiance is great with modern art as decor and lighting. The food was delicious and was made with care. Plenty of service staff if you have questions or need another beverage or food item.

Chips and salsa! Yum! Not too spicy, but enough to give it a little kick and a nice flavor!

I've been wanting to try this restaurant as it is part of the Fox Concepts Group. Located in Central Tempe near Arizona State University, it is in a new development of other Fox restaurants. We arrived early on a Saturday morning so we were one of the first parties to occupy a table in the restaurant. The restaurant is clean, interesting and inviting. We were sat in a large booth and given time to look at the menu. There is also a ton of patio seating if eating outside is your thing. This is one of those menus that gives you a nice selection, but not an overwhelming selection. Right away I chose the short rib Machaca burrito and my husband chose the Carne Asada burrito. We were each very happy with our selections! My short rib was so tender and delicious, it was amazing! My plate was overflowing with beans, rice, sour cream, guacamole and the burrito. And to top it all off, it was served enchilada style. I can't remember the last time I've been in a Mexican restaurant and I've been served all of these things without an up charge. Be warned that the chips and salsa are so good. You don't want to fill up before your food comes!! The chips are just how you like them. Crunchy and lightly salted, not too thin, not too thick. The salsa had just the perfect amount of kick and was a great combination of onions, tomatoes and spices. Feel free to go ahead and dig that chip in there and get a nice chunk of salsa on there before you pop it in your mouth. We both concur that the food was filling and flavorful, and we will definitely make the trek again! I spoke to Jazz, the manager, just to let her know how much we enjoyed our experience and the food on our first visit. She let us know that the food is made fresh each and every day. You can tell, it is just so amazing you have to try it! Our server, Nick made sure we were well stocked with everything that we needed at all times. He did a great job taking care of us. So if you're in the market for Mexican food pass up that new Mexican place by the mall (which is way too noisy) and check this place out instead. Prices are good, food is amazing and service is just how you would like.

What a great restaurant. Awesome atmosphere and ambiance. Food is delicious. I had a few tacos and an ice tea. Matt was a great server. I really liked him. He was very friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

I was visiting from out of state and found his little gem. The food was amazing and so filling. The environment outside was so welcoming and beautiful. The service was amazing and friendly. I couldn't stop talking about this experience with my girlfriends as their drinks were excellent.

I went here three times in the six days that I was in Phoenix. The traditional Carnitas tacos were out of this world. Tense of gluten-free options, corn tortillas with everything and a beautiful margarita mix staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is the last day I was there. I was there for lunch and the traditional Carnitas tacos were just as good, but they were a little bit drier than I had had them at dinner.

Beautiful plate! Great pork burro!

Awesome addition to ASU-area dining! Besides good food, every staff member we met was cheerful, attentive and memorable. Hubby had a pork machaca burro; said the best he's ever had! I had pork carnitas tacos. Very good. All this after a big, good-sized marg! Thanks, Blanco!

Love it! I started out with a cocktail - the Mega Viral! Once you try it, you will understand the name. One of the more innovative cocktails I have ever had... and I ended up having two! So delicious and an experience in itself!! We enjoyed some light bites as well - the Edamame Hummus and Shishito Peppers. Both were fantastic! I love that their menu points out which items are gluten-free... and our server even warned me that the plantain chips in the Edamame Hummus could have cross-contamination... so I very much appreciate that heads up! I opted to order them anyway and I am so glad I did - so good! And I experienced no gluten issues. Awesome! I'm already looking forward to a return trip! I love the giant disco balls and the aesthetic of this place. We started with the appletini and lemongrass highball (non-alcoholic). My friend and I ended up switching drinks because we liked each other's more than our own. For the second round, we ordered the brandy spritz and primrose martini. We weren't fans of the brandy spritz, although my friend grew into it. The primrose martini was quite good, I liked it better than the appletini. For snackies, we ordered the glizzy gaunlet, which was basically a tower of carbs. It came with 5 mini dogs with milk bread, and potato wedges. There were 3 sauces, my favorite in order were the: truffle dijonnaise, kosho aioli, and korean ketchup. We enjoyed this more than the food at Filthy Animal. Although it was pricey ($22) for just carbs and hardly any protein. The milk bread was delicious and the mini dogs were pretty good too. The potato wedges were cooked perfectly, slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Would I return? Probably not. The food was better than the drinks but it wasn't outstanding.

Idle Hands - Inside the bar

I've been to Idle Hands twice, about a year apart, and there's a lot to like. The most recent was…read moreon a Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. This speakeasy is located on Mill Ave., the center of Tempe's party scene. Because of its location, parking isn't easy. If you're looking for free parking, you're going to have a long walk. Outside of that, you'll have to pay for parking in a garage or metered street parking. Ambiance (4/5): Hint hint. Idle Hands is located inside Devil's Hideaway. A true speakeasy shouldn't have signage outside indicating its location. Unfortunately, there's a sign for Idle Hands outside of Devil's Hideaway which takes away the sense of mystery and intrigue that a true speakeasy provides. Outside of this hiccup, it's a cool speakeasy. It's intimate, with 10 or so seats at the bar and about 10 seats in booths facing the bar. There's a projector screen behind the bar that had mystical motion graphics the first time I stopped by (thinking wizards) and Halloween motion graphics the second time (with it being a day before the holiday). There were some other Halloween decorations up. The only area of improvement? The music often doesn't match the vibe. A lot of the music they were playing on my last visit was Irish music that would be fitting for a pub. Service (4/5): I had the same bartender each time. He knows how to make a good drink and is pretty efficient. When you close out, he only gives you the merchant copy. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Let me get that customer copy too. But overall, a good experience. Especially at a college bar. Food (N/A): I've only had drinks both times. Idle Hands actually doesn't have food, but Devil's Hideaway does. And you're allowed to bring food from there into the speakeasy. Drinks (4.5/5): It's pretty surprising to see a speakeasy on a college campus. I was impressed with the creativity of the menu, both in terms of the ingredients used and the fusion of flavors. I've had a different cocktail each time, and they've all been great. My favorite was one served in a box filled with smoke. Talk about a cool presentation! The hallmarks of a solid speakeasy are elevated cocktails, nice ambiance (dimly lit), an intimate space, and mystery/intrigue. While the intrigue is lacking at Idle Hands, and the music can be improved, they hit it out of the park in the other areas. One of my favorite speakeasies I've been to in Phoenix (and surrounding areas). I am, after all, the self-appointed king of speakeasies. The king gives his stamp of approval.

It's a hidden speakeasy-style craft cocktail bar accessible through a hallway near the kitchen. Both places are relatively new. Opening in the Spring 2024. I had an amazing tiki cocktail, the #180, with tasting notes of "boozy, tiki, donuts". My perfect combo :) I also loved the clarified punch I ordered, #69 "tropical, salty, and sweet". It was SO yummy. And we tried a Cocoa Butter Kisses shot- a very nice Amaro. The bartender was great-- attentive service and helpful recommendations. I definitely look forward to going back and trying other drinks.

Our group of 8 ended up here when another Tempe restaurant had a kitchen emergency and cancelled our reso an hour before dinner. Alter Ego was able to accommodate us, and we were glad they did. If you enter from the street side you'd never know you're in a hotel restaurant. It's got an upscale, classy vibe not usually seen in hotel dining. The waiter and bartender were attentive and knowledgeable. The menu wasn't huge but it was a great variety of options. Table had some salads, flatbreads, burgers and a round of butter cake desserts. Each was really, really good. Way more sophisticated plates than expected. Also had a bunch of craft cocktails, unique and well made. Sometimes the best experiences are unplanned. We walked in and were immediately greeted by... absolutely no one. There was what might have been a hostess stand, or possibly a modern art installation--I'm still not sure. After doing a full lap like we were casing the place for a heist, we confirmed: no hostess, no sign, no clues. Just vibes. Naturally, we migrated to the bar like confused NPCs waiting for a quest. Stood there. Made eye contact. Practiced our "we are clearly humans who would like to eat" stance. Nothing. Not even a nod. At this point, I was considering ordering invisibility cloaks since we were clearly already wearing them. Finally, we move to the front of the bar where someone acknowledges us and says, "Oh yeah, just go to the hostess stand... she'll be back." Ah yes--the elusive hostess. A mythical creature. So we return to the podium of mystery and wait. Eventually, an older woman appears (possibly summoned by our collective confusion) and seats us. Progress. We sit down. No water. No greeting. No "hey, glad you solved the puzzle and made it to Level 2." Just silence. About 7 minutes later, two guys get seated right next to us. Within 4 minutes, a server rushes over to them like they're VIPs at a Vegas club and takes their drink order... while we're sitting there like decorative furniture. At that point, we realized we weren't dining--we were extras in someone else's restaurant experience. So we left. To whoever manages this place: you might want to check the tape. Not even to fix things--just to appreciate the full cinematic masterpiece of how impressively this all unfolded. Honestly, it'd make a great training video titled "What If We Just Didn't?" Would I come back? Only if there's a leaderboard next time so I know how close I was to unlocking the "Order Coffee" achievement.
