Piña Colada Agua Fresca - very tasty
    Christine B.

First impressions make a difference. The restaurant is bright and inviting with interesting artwork and tile. We were greeted and told what to expect regarding seating and the ordering process by a very friendly employee. I didn't go the taco route like my husband and son but mostly enjoyed my bean and cheese burrito with carne asada. (Some of the cheese wasn't melted but I'll fix that at home with the portion I brought home.) I've never had an agua fresca so I decided to try the piña colada flavor. I was a little put off by the $7 price but it was gorgeously presented, frozen, and very delicious. I probably wouldn't order it again but it was a nice splurge. Overall we liked what we saw here.

I stopped by Tacos Chelo in Tempe, AZ near my job, always on the lookout for good Mexican food. Today I tried the carne asada torta and it was delicious! The bread was soft and fresh and they definitely didn't skimp on the avocado. They included three salsas to go. The orange one was my favorite with the best flavor and just the right heat, while the green had great flavor but could've used a touch more salt. I really liked the bright, colorful vibe inside with the decorative flooring and the bar that has a fun cantina feel. The staff was kind and humble when I picked up my order, which made the experience even better. Prices are a little on the higher side with tacos at $5.25 each. Next time I'll try two tacos since typically I would get three or four, but I can't justify paying that much for tacos. I'd also like to come back with more time to sit, maybe grab a cerveza or margarita, and enjoy the full experience.

I've been a fan since they first opened, and they've never disappointed. From the beautiful design to the handmade tortillas, fire-grilled BBQ carne asada, and delicious margaritas--everything is on point. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the food is consistently fresh. Every visit takes me back to our trips to Mexico. The vibe is upbeat yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot to unwind. Definitely a favorite and a place you should check out.

While in Phoenix, I tried Taco Chelo based upon a couple of TikTok reviews. The ambience was nice. Customer service was awesome! We were greeted immediately and given a menu and showed where to order food. I ordered the Costra Beef, Sonoran, and Barbacoa Tacos. All delicious! 9/10. My cousin ordered the Costra Beef, Al Pastor Taco, Crispy Shrimp Tacos and Pickled Veggies. She enjoyed it all but enjoyed the shrimp and al pastor tacos the most. We both ordered the chips with salsa and guacamole. The salsa and guacamole were good. However, we weren't fans on the chips just because they weren't fresh and a little hard. The bartender on the drinks definitely didn't skimp out on the alcohol! I had the Prickly Pear Margarita and my cousin had the Frozen House Margarita. I would definitely recommend Taco Chelo 9/10!

Can't believe I never visited this place before! I'd give their fish taco and asada taco a 5/5 because they were so good. The asada was tender and not too salty, and each taco was about $3.50. The fish taco is $4.50, a good size, super crispy, and made with beer-battered fish. The vibe is lively with open seating, and you can seat yourself. There are both indoor and outdoor tables, and the service was really friendly. Def will back for more tacos!

Impressive! My friend had a full Ratatouille moment with his first bite of the Sonoran Asada taco. Fish - 5/5 super solid and generous portions, well fried, well constructed--no notes. Asada - 5/5 sheeeesh, smoky, tender, and packed with flavor, easily one of one best in the Valley in terms of quality and taste. Barbacoa - 5/5 when the barbacoa is moist with a rich, meaty flavor like cabeza--you know you're in trouble! Costra - 4.5/5 cheesy and indulgent, can't complain! With so much cheese, it would have been nice with a little more onion or carne but most people would be happy as it is. Tortillas? Made fresh in-house and toasted to order--which is really the minimum if you want to talk tacos

I have been a frequent visitor to the Phoenix Taco Chelo for some time now. I heard another location was opening near ASU campus and excited to have a location near home. They did a nice job of designing this place with beautiful décor that gives it cantina feel. It can be hard to fully enjoy the colorful floor tiles or hand crafted bar stools when this place is packed on football game nights. The outdoor patio area always has a good crowd. Taco Chelo is named for the chef's mother who influenced her cooking. The menu here at the Tempe location is the same as the one on Roosevelt Row. Taco Chelo offers a selection of tacos, appetizers and handcrafted cocktails. They also have a burrito, quesadilla and torta on the menu. The meat selection is the same with al pastor being offered only on Wednesdays. I grew on tacos and will never say no to them. I love the simplicity of the menu and how spicy and delicious the tacos are here. Definitely get some Frijoles A La Charra and chips on the side. Expect a college crowd on games nights and on the weekends. Parking here at Taco Chelo is metered parking around the campus area.

This was my second time coming here and I forgot to order flour tortillas. The food was still excellent and I highly recommend the vegetable taco which has sweet potato in it. We got frozen margaritas and they were very good.

This food is delicious! We had several tacos, shrimp ceviche, and carne asada fries and all were so flavorful. The fresh tortillas are delicious. Very casual atmosphere, ordering at the counter and then taking a number. Food came out quickly. Very good experience.

Best Carne Asada Fries that I've ever had! This place is a great spot to grab lunch or dinner. It's super cute with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The food is made to order and it can get busy. They have a good selection of options! ig: @cravingswithcat

Good tacos, quick service, fair pricing. Salsas felt a little weak on the spice levels. Would try again if I'm in the area and want a quick bite.

The horchata is the best in town! Tacos are delicious. Meat is juicy and taco toppings go really well with specific kinds of meats. I like the fresh sliced cucumber to cleanse my month before enjoying another tasty taco. Easy to place an online order. Food are ready quickly. No option to order drink online but no problem because the line to order takeout is short.

    Happy hour!

No need to look any further This place is so very good! Salsas, tortillas, chips, everything homemade & broke da mouth DELICIOUS! No joke, we didn't look to go anywhere else during Spring Training. We didn't eat at Stadiums, ever. We ate & drank here. Their chips & salsa, a must. They should give you more salsa, but it is very delicious! Their shrimp tacos & fish tacos really good. But the star of our show was the last taco listed on menu, Carne Asada with melted cheese. So fabulous! Service is efficient. Cute interior & exterior. Don't hesitate, this is the place to go. Happy hour would have been a great value, our timing just didn't work.

The meats are so good. We also use to love the sushi side. During Covid, we tried the sushi for the first time. We were hesitant as it's a Mexican joint, right? Not a Japanese specialty shop. So to my surprise, I couldn't believe the sushi especially the Las Vegas roll and their Nigiri cuts were pretty dang good. My disappointment seems to be this last year with the sushi just hasn't been the best or fresh tasting. The Las Vegas roll was always nice and warm but with an awesome cold center and fried to perfection and the sauce just right. Lately it's been the opposite. Super over fried were all you can taste is old burnt oil and it dried out and the sauce just bland and not helping at all. The other thing that bothers us is the lack of wasabi they give! If you're not going to give us full flavor, at least give more wasabi to help mask. I will say they give you plenty of soy sauce packets (just barely any wasabi).

The tacos overall were very tasty, I love the sides of salsa/crema that came with them. The batter on the shrimp and fish was light and crispy, but the blue corn tortilla was underwhelming.
