    Food 5/5 Service 5/5 [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance 5/5[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall 10/10 Recommend.................................................................................

I rarely give out five stars but this restaurant deserved five stars. From their customer service and the phenomenal fresh homemade food that was brought to the table was amazing. The tortillas or freshly made, and you can tell they put so much love into what they cook with their marinated, slow roasted meats. I decided to go with one of each of the enchiladas and so glad I was able to try both the Barbacoa and the chicken. I can't express my gratitude and admiration for the waiter that we had. He loved explaining the menu to us, which I can truly appreciate. He was also so kind to me and my family and attentive to our table. He always kept the fresh tortilla chips coming and we never ran out. I highly recommend giving them a try if you're in the Phoenix area.*** please note they are in a temporary building while their other building is being renovated****

The service was great, including the owner/chef Leo checking in on us throughout and even giving us tips for what else to do while in Phoenix. The food was next level delicious. We will be back any time we are back in Phoenix, that is for sure.

This place had the best ratings on Yelp for the Al Pastor tacos, so I decided to give it a try. To get to the food truck/dining area, make sure you follow the signs on the street-- it is a little bit confusing to find if you're going too fast! The chips were served warm and were salted very nicely. The Al Pastor was not my favorite, however, the steak taco was the best I've ever had. The steak was so tender and the additions were a really great touch. The Jamaica Agua Fresca was the best drink for a hot day. The service was quick and I was greeted immediately after I parked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining area is very homey and the restaurant has a policy where you have to walk and get your food from a table right outside the dining area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think it might have to do with the food being cooked in the food truck. I would definitely come back for the steak tacos and Agua Fresca!

Honestly the food here is as good as ever! Ordered their charred romaine (steak), shrimp tacos with rice/beans and the churros. Steak was well seasoned and super tender. And those churros are to die for. Plenty of parking in the new space. Service was great. Maria was awesome. Would definitely visit with confidence.

Wow wow wow! What a gem! We don't live in the state, but we came looking for good food from the Phoenix airport. And boy, the reviews did not disappoint! Service was exceptional - fast and friendly, full of great suggestions. The temporary location is quaint and well maintained with a comforting vibe. But the food! My gosh! We started with the guacamole and enjoyed the habanero salsa that was well balanced on the spice level. We tried the Wild Mushroom Enchiladas and the Al Pastor burrito. The mole sauce was so good, I could have licked the container! The Al Pastor was also vibrant and fresh and packed full of flavor. I might move to this state just to be a regular at this place. A definitive 5 star experience!

    My two favorite sauces.

If you blink, you might miss the entrance, but even if you do... turn around, it's absolutely worth it. Quaint and unassuming from the outside, it has a charming homey vibe. Inside is more spacious with ample tables, booths, and a small bar. The blue interior keeps the mood chill, and the music was just right for the ambiance. I honestly just wanted some authentic, non-chain Mexican food and this absolutely hit the spot. I asked for recommendations and was offered the breaded whitefish with accompanying flour tortilla shells, rice, and beans. While I waited and dug into the chips and salsa, I was unprepared for that flavor bomb. It's definitely not the standard fare tomato salsa, but has a depth of flavor and uniqueness to it that's hard to pinpoint. I was still noshing on it even after finishing my meal. The plate arrived with a massive, but delicately fried filet of whitefish, hot and crispy breading when I sliced it into taco-able chunks. I was brought some standard ranch as well as chipotle ranch for the salad and the chipotle was the right choice. There is a sizable bucket of fresh hot sauces on each table and I didn't spare one from the taste test. My absolute favorite that complimented the fish was the la guacamayo and I took home a bottle for good measure (purchased...). The fish was delicate, perfectly fried, lightly breaded, and didn't sit heavy at all. The rice was pretty standard fare and if I had to nitpick anything, I'd love to see the beans have a little more flier and substance to the plate. All in all, an absolute winner and if I'm ever back in phoenix; I WILL be hitting this wonderful restaurant again.

What a gem! Our family of three landed and went straight here. It is tucked into a parking lot and the outside is hard to miss but they are working on a better location next door. The staff and customer service was excellent. There are tables and chairs set up, and it is very casual. For food we ordered chicken burrito, tacos and enchiladas. Everything was delicious and my favorite was barracoa enchiladas.

Excellent food and excellent service!!!! The restaurant had a fire and while they rebuild, they are using location across the street for a dining room and operating out of a food truck. Everything is made to order and so fresh. The steak taco was my fav by far and the shrimp was a close second. The service was wonderful and everyone was so so so nice. Def stop and have a taco and some fresh guac!

While the food is just as good as ever, sadly a major fire has the restaurant relocated to a temporary building down a small side street (follow signs for Food Truck) and as the temporary kitchen is a food truck, there are a few menu limitations (no booze being the main one)). They still have my wife's favorites-steak tacos and my go to -the meaty chicken enchiladas. For now, the Food is served in takeout containers but they have ample seating inside and out in the temporary space and most importantly the same strong customer service and friendliness. While they work to rebuild, they need our dining dollars more than ever so make a point to over there and get some of their great chow!

God tier. Fresh guac to die for. Incredibly refreshing agua Fresca. Next level tacos. Those fresh piping hot churros. Heavenly. We heard amazing things about this place, and this lived up to the hype and more. We ended up going two days in a row. It's really that good. Staff are also absolutely wonderful. Can't recommend this place enough.

WOW!!! (1) customer service is freaking INCREDIBLE! Friendly, welcoming, sincere. (2) food is AMAZING!!! I didn't get to try all that much as it was only me but these enchiladas are delish... the mushroom enchilada is by far the BEST vegetarian enchilada I have ever had!

Best tacos and service. Have been wanting to try for years finally made it happen today for lunch. Servers are super friendly and attentive. Guac / chips are both amazing. I had three tacos; shrimp, beef tenderloin, and the al pastor. All three were amazing. Could've been the owner but as I was leaving a guy approached and asked how everything was, thanked me for the business and said he hopes I return... makes all the difference. They really know what they are doing here. Place is 5 stars even without an actual restaurant. Can't wait till they reopen in December will definitely be back to support them. Could not recommend enough!

Cocina Madrigal Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Cocina Madrigal

Are they still serving margaritas with the food truck setup?

Yes, but there is to be a new building unveiled in December.

Is this place ever going to open back up?

I am a customer. I hope it is soon!

    Are reservations needed for lunch.?

Not needed but it's always busy so it's best to make them. Very. Busy. But worth it!

Is this Tex Mex or do you serve refried beans too?

This is real Mexican, definitely not Tex Mex, not really southwestern, it is what you expect when you are in a non tourist Mexican city/restaurant. If you love Mexican fast food or chain store Mexican.... This is very different. 5 star for sure but…

Does this place have crispy tacos?

    Yes! Food is awesome!

Does the restaurant cook with vegetable soy oil? Is it possible to accommodate a soy allergy?

    Olive oil

    Is it dog friendly?

Yes! But on the patio. TOO HOT FOR DOGS!!!

    When is happy hour?

I was just there last week- June '22. The menu stated happy hour is 2pm-6pm Monday- Friday.

Are you able to order the Fundiito without mushrooms? ( I know, I am picky)

Yes, you can get the fundido without mushrooms That's how I order it. They are a scratch kitchen so everything is made to order.

Is the patio covered and heated?

    Covered but not heated.

Is the business not offering takeout anymore?

They offer take out, but to order take out you must go in person to place your order and wait. They are super busy!

    Gluten free items?

Nope, unless you consider their tap water, but even that was questionable...

Can I mix and match on the tacos?

At any restaurant should not be an issue! We do!

Is the rice cooked in a chicken stock?

Cocina Madrigal does not use lard or stock for their beans. I have eaten twice and they have been very accommodating to my vegan requests

Take out - just call in? Or do you you a 3rd party ordering app?

To get take put you must walk in and order. They do not have anything online and do not take pick up orders offer the phone.

    Do you serve Manudo?

    They don't serve menudo.

Does this place have air conditioning? It was hot as heck!

    Yes they do

Are they open now? Reservation needed?

I saw cars out there a couple of days ago. I usually go for lunch before the crowd starts so not sure about reservations.

Do you have a kids menu?

    yeah they do

Do you know if they have live music / dancing or just restaurant?

    No dancing or live music.

I ordered two carne asada tacos, two el pastor tacos, and one vampiro. I started with the al pastor tacos. I managed to get through one and a half before I had to stop; I just couldn't handle the saltiness anymore. I thought it was only the carne asada, but when I tried a bite of the el pastor vampiro, I realized that was just as salty. Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.
