After accidentally booking the wrong location for our party of 13 on a busy Saturday evening during Mother's Day weekend, Don (the restaurant manager) and the hostesses went above and beyond to accommodate us. They graciously opened one of their banquet rooms, which required several staff members to set up, turn on the power, and get the air conditioning running for our group. We are incredibly grateful for the care and hospitality we received. The food was wonderful, authentic, and absolutely delicious. What a disappointment! For years, this was our go-to spot for great Mexican food, margaritas, and reconnecting with friends. A group of 10 of us meets twice a year, and this restaurant had become our favorite reunion location. Sadly, after our recent visit, we won't be returning. When I made the reservation, I was told they would not provide separate checks for our group. Annoying, but manageable. Once we arrived, the seating arrangement for a larger party felt awkward and not particularly accommodating, but we made it work. The real shock came when the bill arrived. The small margaritas were $25 each. The mini chimichanga appetizer was $18. A plate of three small street tacos was $25. For two people, with three drinks, one appetizer, and a shared taco plate, the bill came to $135 before tip. Every person in our group commented on the pricing. We all sat there comparing notes and wondering how a casual South Tempe Mexican restaurant had become priced like a trendy Scottsdale hotspot. The food was fine, but nothing about the quality, portions, service, or atmosphere justified those prices. What was once a reliable local favorite now feels like another example of corporate greed taking over a neighborhood restaurant. It's unfortunate because we genuinely loved coming here. Where is the customer service for this highly over priced sub par Mexican restaurant .. ? Obviously the young self absorbed staff have never been properly trained here. This was my second attempt in dining here and as a local resident a mile a way this will most likely be my last . Upon entering several staff watched me walk in without a hello, then barely greeted by a young man who could barely say a word and I offered to sit in the bar while the only small table was full of dishes from the prior vacated guest. I then sat at the bar hoping I'd be at the least greeted by the 3 staff all talking sipping their own lavish looking blended drinks literally on the side staring at me without even a hello or greeting of any kind. Finally Isiah came out with chips and salsa and then said hello. Ok well at least that was something ? The 2 young ladies (employee's) continued sipping on their drinks right in front of me on their phones. They all continued to talk among themselves gathered on the side in front of the bar. After looking at the extremely over priced $17.00 cocktails and sub par margarita's based on the small margarita I had there before last year, I opted for a $10 Coors Light . The menu prices are also starting at close to $24 for a small basic plate and add on's extra . This once dearly loved reasonably priced restaraunt is now owned by the Hotel , Az Grand and they continue to nickel and dime anyone they can at all their establishments but arent willing to properly train their staff on basic customer service. What a shame and I took my business elsewhere where I'm genuinely appreciated with authentic Sonoran Style cooking at great prices to "The Original Burrito Company 2 miles away. We were recommended to come here as it was part of the resort property we were staying at. However, it was just mediocre overall. We took a golf cart ride here, but you can also walk from the hotel, as it isn't too far. There is plenty of parking if you choose to drive. The good: the restaurant has a super cute vibe and a huge outdoor patio that has a romantic, quaint atmosphere. We also LOVED the General Manager who greeted us and instantly struck up a rapport with him. We then went to the bar and ordered drinks. The bartender wasn't too friendly and made us two margaritas, both of which were incredibly over-the-top sweet and we didn't even finish them, and left them at the bar when we paid and were sat on the patio outside. (Our tab for the2 margaritas was $43.00 with tip..) Our waiter took quite awhile to greet us outside, although it wasn't too busy. He was pretty friendly once he finally came over. We weren't crazy about the menu and decided to ask the waiter what he recommends and we ordered that. It was fried chicken chimichanga thing slathered in queso. It sounded delicious, and was cut into four pieces, but it was slightly cold and just WAYYYY too rich and heavy. Don't get me wrong- I usually like that, but this was excessive. We opted to not order more drinks and left. One MAJOR highlight of this place is that the chips and salsa are FIRE! These are the best chips I've ever had in my life and I would consider going back just to have these chips again! The salsa was also delicious, and the manager was great. We were in the area because my daughter had an event nearby, and decided to stop into Aunt Chilada's for a quick drink and bite. We sat in the bar area, which had quick service. I ordered a mango skinny margarita that was great, not overly sweet. Their complimentary chips and salsa were good, especially the regular salsa, which had great flavor. For food, we shared the three street tacos plate and tried all of their seafood options: the beer-battered shrimp, the crispy Baja fish, and the grilled mahi mahi. Each one was great, and the portion sizes were much bigger than the typical street tacos you get elsewhere. The bartender was also our server, and he was attentive and friendly throughout. We have been coming to Aunt Chilada's every spring for years during Spring Training. This trip we had a party of eight for dinner. I understand that a larger party has an automatic tip added, but tips should not be taxed which they were. We were definitely surprised by the price increases on the menu. There is so much competition in the area that it makes our choices to skip your restaurant for any future business. My partner and I split a taquitos meal and had a couple of margaritas for a total bill of $114. We paid just a little over half the price for a similar meal at another restaurant the following day. I get yelp says your closed but when looking for restaurants online such as Apple or Google Maps maybe it should mention your special hours not only on yelp. We drove 30 minutes to this location to be turned away in the parking lot because the entire restaurant was closed for a party. We stopped by here on a Saturday night with a reservation of 15 people. I was quite impressed, the table was already set with chips and salsa and waters. Our waiter Josh was super attentive and handled our big group with ease, I would request him if I ever were to come back!! We sat outside and it was pretty cold but they had plenty of heaters set up around the patio to accommodate guests, and the sunset from the patio was quite literally to die for. I may come here for the sunsets alone!! The food was very good, as well as the margaritas. I got the chimichangas and it was enough to feed two people so be ready to bring home leftovers!!! This place is very-very busy. We waiting almost an hour to be seated. Was it worth it? Not really. The food and drinks were amazing. The view and scenery beautiful. The service was too slow. We have been eating here for over 30 years because we love the ambiance and recipes but likely no longer going out of our way to support a classic favorite that can't get their standards up over the years. It's consistently short staffed where the servers do their absolute best considering the amount of work they are doing to their best capabilities. So with that comes long wait times, no drink refills and the thing I can't tolerate is then being nickel and dimmed from the management for that special experience. Our party of 4 adults and 2 teens - my party of 6 were charged an absurd "Large Party (20.00%) fee" against our entire subtotal. In its simplest form, 42% extra for mediocre service is tacked onto the bill is outrageous and should be called out. That's an absolute insult for good business practices. 6 people is not a Large Party. I refuse to take that out on the staff or out make a fuss in person over the hidden fee. Its a management decision that should be frowned upon. My solution going forward is selecting other establishments. I have had enough gouging at this point. read more

The wife and I were in the area and wanted a nice sit down Mexican restaurant and I found aunt Chilada's. To start off the place looks amazing. Nice pond in the front, large outside area. I ordered the carnitas and the wife ordered the chicken fajitas. The rice was inedible it was dried out like it was overcooked or kinda how it dries out in a fridge. The beans are so thick and dry with no flavor. My carnitas were okay but wouldn't recommend. My wife didn't eat anything. I grew up down the street from Aunt Chilada's. I have many fond memories of coming here in my younger days and as an adult. I came here recently after they were closed for a couple years. I was to happy to hear they didn't shut down for good because of their long history here in the Valley. Aunt Chilada's is part of Arizona Grand Resort & Spa near South Mountain. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are available to host weddings and other private events. I enjoyed my afternoon lunch here while reminiscing with the bartender of my past days of dining here. Growing up, my dad always order us a cheese crisp for appetizer. So I grabbed one of those and the Tres Enchiladas de Harina. Aunt Chilada's has a nice collection of tequilas and so I also ordered a margarita. I love the ambiance here, especially in the evenings. We started with the guacamole appetizer, which was $18 for a small bowl that tasted like it had a filler in it. Definitely was not all avocado. We split the pollo fundido, but the chicken was so salty it was inedible--and I actually like salty food. There was barely any fundido sauce on the burrito, and it was extremely dry. This is the third time I have been here. It is located right outside the Arizona Grand Resort. I am traveling and had to stop here. The ambiance at night is awesome. It's all lit up and I love eating outside. The food is always amazing. This trip I was on a search for jalapeño margaritas and this place did not disappoint. We had a group of four tonight and was seated right away and they brought out our chips and salsa and we continued ordering sides of dips. It all tasted so very good. They have choices of three tacos on the menu which we all chose to get. I believe there were maybe 8 choices and we got almost all the options between us all. We did not care for the Mahi taco.
