UPDATE: what an improvement over the last review! "Ordinary" has exploded into "great!" We've returned to Anayas, searching for our go-to Mexican food. Not only have the taste and quality of food improved, the presentations of the main dishes were awesome - plus, the chicken enchiladas mole was the best mole I've tasted! The burro was served on a large black plate and the colors, red, green and white just popped. We found our go-to Mexican restaurant! (But we're not alone. By 8:00 pm the restaurant and the bar were full!) Try it...or try it again. PRO TIP- order chicken enchiladas mole; eat one, take the other home; next morning, reheat it and add an over-easy egg on top. What a breakfast treat!

Enchiladas!

Our go to Mexican food spot! The best Cadillac margaritas around. Mom and pop type of spot... can't beat it. Not a corporation. Come try them!

Great first visit to Anaya's! We've driven by this restaurant many times, and tonight we decided to stop in for dinner. We were greeted by a friendly man and seated promptly. Within a minute of sitting down, another employee brought us fresh chips and salsa. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and we ordered chicken enchiladas suizas and chicken mole enchiladas. Our food came out hot and fresh from the kitchen. The shredded chicken in my enchiladas was incredibly juicy and flavorful. My husband enjoyed his mole enchiladas as well. Our entrees came with fluffy Mexican rice and delicious refried beans topped with melted cheese. We were so full we didn't try any dessert this time. Our server came by a few times throughout the meal to refill drinks and make sure we were enjoying everything. Their breakfast menu looks great, so we'll be sure to stop by soon to try that.

So we have been coming to Anaya's for several years now. The Anaya's family is absolutely wonderful! Joey has been a staple as well as the rest of his family in making everyone feel welcome and part of the family when they come into the restaurant. A few weeks ago, Anaya's changed management and we noticed an immediate change in the service, food, and the ambience. And not for the better. It started to look cluttered, messy, and we did not feel as welcome. Well, happy to report the "Anaya's Way" is back! Mario is running the restaurant now and has a personal touch in making sure that the service, the food, and more importantly, the way you feel when you come in and when you leave are the best it can be! Thank you for bringing the Anaya's touch back to the restaurant. We were so close to leaving, but now we are back, highly recommend.

Margaritas

The chips and salsa were fast and the salsa is very spicy!! Good classic margaritas (ours came in the shaker) with fresh lime juice! We had the combo fajitas $24 which came with guacamole, sour cream, salsa fresca, traditional refried beans, rice & grilled steak and chicken. Very flavorful with lots of red and green peppers. It was just enough and no extra charge for corn and flour tortillas. Quick service, very colorful interior and has sidewalk outdoor dining.

The owner and one of the newest customers from now on. Thank you for the experience.

The best Mexican restaurant in town. Food Management and Hospitality you need to give it a try you will be amazed. The Ambience is unbelievable.

Chicken Fajitas

Delicious food and great service! This is our favorite Mexican restaurant in Tempe, consistently scrumptious and a good value with a warm atmosphere . Our family visited on Friday evening. We had the garden burrito, chicken fajitas and Tacos Mexico with fish. Chips and salsa were above board and the food really satisfied. Looking forward to our next visit!

The food was decent , . The drinks and margaritas were good. Enchiladas is my favorite dish off of the menu

The Mexican Pizza is delicious!

I was hungry for Mexican Pizza so I searched online and found Anaya's not far from home. It's a cute place, sweet staff, and really good Mexican Pizza. I had mine with shredded beef but ground beef, chicken, and steak are also available. Will be back.

Steak Tampiquena - 7oz grilled skirt steak & one chicken enchilada topped with mole sauce. Served with rice & beans & warm corn tortilla.

Food was so-so. Service was good. Restaurant was empty. Only one take out order was picked up during my hour-long stay.

The service was good, but not great, and the food was good, but not worth the money. We tried the Green Chili cornbread, and it was much sweeter than I expected, but it was good. The tacos were small 3" street tacos for $3 to $4. That's basically $1 per bite. I tried the chicken, beef, and carna asada. The chicken and beef had very good flavor with a hint of smoke, but the carna asada was dry and tasteless. I saw the food on the tablets next to us, and most of it looked like fairly small servings, except for a burrito one person had. It was huge, and looked good. The house Margaritas were served in a small rocks glass, and I didn't taste any triple sec, or much tequila either. The lime had a nasty taste to like they were old. For a $7 margarita it sucked, and they called that a special. If money is not a concern then maybe you'll like this place, but I wouldn't call it a good value at all. The flavors were good, but not at the price. They don't even give you free chips and salsa, and I saw the guacamole order next to us and it was a tiny serving for $11.

The parking lot outside was parking so we thought we may have to wait, but inside was not busy yet and we were seated immediately. I ordered the smoked chicken enchilada as I saw it was a Yelp favorite and it was delicious. I ended up taking half of it home since we all filled up on chips and salsa before our meal. This restaurant is decorated so cutely. I love how there is a Baja influence with all the surf boards but also southwest appeal. There is plenty of seating and tables for big groups. Even with other people yapping around us, the noise level was perfect to enjoy company. 10/10 would recommend.

We also use to love the sushi side. During Covid, we tried the sushi for the first time. We were hesitant as it's a Mexican joint, right? Not a Japanese specialty shop. So to my surprise, I couldn't believe the sushi especially the Las Vegas roll and their Nigiri cuts were pretty dang good. My disappointment seems to be this last year with the sushi just hasn't been the best or fresh tasting. The Las Vegas roll was always nice and warm but with an awesome cold center and fried to perfection and the sauce just right. Lately it's been the opposite. Super over fried were all you can taste is old burnt oil and it dried out and the sauce just bland and not helping at all. The other thing that bothers us is the lack of wasabi they give! If you're not going to give us full flavor, at least give more wasabi to help mask. I will say they give you plenty of soy sauce packets (just barely any wasabi).
