    Chicken Enchilada De Mole
    Doug B.

The place is brightly colored and festive. The menu is quite extensive -- a lot of interesting options to try. We came for lunch on the weekend and had no problems parking or getting a table. The server was the receptionist and she was attentive and friendly without hovering. I had the mole chicken enchiladas and the mole was very good. I'd seen some references to "peanut butter mole" somewhere and was a little worried (though I love peanut butter, I don't think it would be awesome on chicken by itself). Thankfully, while there is a distinct peanut butter flavor in the mole, it is not the primary element. That gives it a richness to complement the traditional spice and slight bitterness. The rice and beans were fine and the portion was more than enough for my lunch.

Most recent visit was again great with the food and service. They have daily food specials Mon-Fri that range from enchiladas, hard tacos, taquitos, and more at a solid price point of $12.95. They include rice & beans and make for a great meal. Happy Hour specials daily include Margaritas & various draft beers. The featured cocktail was the Los Cabos Margarita, and they also have a Lalo Tequila skinny margarita for those watching the calories. Happy hour, I believe, runs from 2-6pm M-F. I went with the Monday special that included a Hard Taco, Enchilada along with Rice & Beans... Good stuff, great service and chill setting!

Hubby & I had dinner here last Friday night. It t a minute to be greeted & seated, but not bad. Hubby ordered his favorite beer & I ordered sangria. Hubby's beer was good. My sangria was good as well. However, the amount you get for around $8.50 is a joke. Its a small glass with just a little bit in the glass. The chips & salsa were good. The spicy salsa is the opposite of the one you would think is spicy out of the two, so pay attention. Hubby got a combo with a tamale & ground beef burrito with rice & beans. He said everything was good. He also ordered a side of guacamole. I thought I got a picture of the guacamole & sour cream. It's crazy how much they charged for them. They were the small plast condiments containers, but they charged almost $5 for the guacamole. I don't remember the extra cost for the sour cream, but it too was way too high for the tiny size. I got a chicken chimichanga with grilled chicken instead of the shredded chicken which came with rice & beans. It was all good. Our server was friendly & did a good job. We loved the decor. It reminded us of being in Mexico. The table & chairs are really cool too. I wanted to love this place, but the cost of the sangria, sour cream & guacamole are just too high for me to justify coming back.

UPDATE: what an improvement over the last review! "Ordinary" has exploded into "great!" We've returned to Anayas, searching for our go-to Mexican food. Not only have the taste and quality of food improved, the presentations of the main dishes were awesome - plus, the chicken enchiladas mole was the best mole I've tasted! The burro was served on a large black plate and the colors, red, green and white just popped. We found our go-to Mexican restaurant! (But we're not alone. By 8:00 pm the restaurant and the bar were full!) Try it...or try it again. PRO TIP- order chicken enchiladas mole; eat one, take the other home; next morning, reheat it and add an over-easy egg on top. What a breakfast treat!

I'm an Arizona native, and a self proclaimed Mexican Food snob. Añayas is in a strip mall behind a Circle K, so it's easy to overlook, but it's a true gem of the neighborhood! It's quaint, never a wait, and it has become our family go-to. We always have wonderful service and great meals with freshly prepared ingredients. The shrimp dishes are incredible, remnant of Puerto Peñasco with shrimp that "pops" (if you know good shrimp, you know what I mean!) They have Negra Modelo on draught (hard to find that!), and their margaritas are delish. You can't go wrong with chimichangas or combo platters! They have moles on the menu but we typically opt for more traditional Sonoran style. If you are on the search for amazing traditional Mexican food in South Tempe - you found your spot!

Great first visit to Anaya's! We've driven by this restaurant many times, and tonight we decided to stop in for dinner. We were greeted by a friendly man and seated promptly. Within a minute of sitting down, another employee brought us fresh chips and salsa. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and we ordered chicken enchiladas suizas and chicken mole enchiladas. Our food came out hot and fresh from the kitchen. The shredded chicken in my enchiladas was incredibly juicy and flavorful. My husband enjoyed his mole enchiladas as well. Our entrees came with fluffy Mexican rice and delicious refried beans topped with melted cheese. We were so full we didn't try any dessert this time. Our server came by a few times throughout the meal to refill drinks and make sure we were enjoying everything. Their breakfast menu looks great, so we'll be sure to stop by soon to try that.

So we have been coming to Anaya's for several years now. The Anaya's family is absolutely wonderful! Joey has been a staple as well as the rest of his family in making everyone feel welcome and part of the family when they come into the restaurant. A few weeks ago, Anaya's changed management and we noticed an immediate change in the service, food, and the ambience. And not for the better. It started to look cluttered, messy, and we did not feel as welcome. Well, happy to report the "Anaya's Way" is back! Mario is running the restaurant now and has a personal touch in making sure that the service, the food, and more importantly, the way you feel when you come in and when you leave are the best it can be! Thank you for bringing the Anaya's touch back to the restaurant. We were so close to leaving, but now we are back, highly recommend.

Mario and his team took very good care of us. We were a large party today and we all had fun. The service was great and they did great with all our orders. The food tasted great and was abundant. Thank you, Mario and team for making our family get together at Anaya's, a memorable one. We will definitely be back!! As always.

My beertender was very friendly and accomodating. He gave my dog Hansel a bowl of water and a biscuit. This is a very dogfriendly taproom. Both beers I had were very tasty. My first pint was a Hefeweizen. It had a slight waxy mouthfeel. My second pint was an oatmeal stout. At 7.3% ABV it was a tad strong, but it went down very smoothly. I snacked on some free popcorn but it was seasoned with a strong spice. Thankfully I could help myself to the water fountain. I enjoyed the ambiance and will be back.

Our server was Triston. He was okay, but not great. Hubby got Dosxx with a lime. I got the red sangria. Both were good, but the beer was missing the lime. Our server got some when asked again. It did take awhile to get our drinks. The waters came much faster. We ordered the pretzel, beef dip & all American burger with extra sauce on the side. It took awhile for the food to come out. Our pretzel came out with our meals. Next time I know to specify we want the app before the meals. The pretzel was huge & it was good. The beer cheese was okay, but a little runny. Hubby loved his dip. There was lots of meat that was tender. The Au Ju was the best we have ever had. It was super flavorful. My burger was missing the extra sauce. Our server got some when asked. It also came with tomatoes on it, but that was not in the description. The burger was excellent! For a smash burger it was juicy. Even better Triston let me know the all American was on the $13 Pizookie Meal Deal. You get the burger, fries & a personal size pizookie. It was cheaper than my sangria, lol. I got the triple chocolate. It was super good. Hubby & I shared it. We asked for Togo containers for half my food & most the pretzel. He brought 2 small containers. We asked for something to put the beer cheese in. He got us some. Due to the slow service we only had one drink each. Because the food was so good, we will be back.

Big portions, a huge menu (see pics), and genuinely good value across the board. Mmmm, that burger was good, juicy, thick, smokey, rich, and flavorful with warm, gooey cheese, fresh toppings and thick, warm, home-cut fries-o-plenty, excellent! If you're looking for a spot where the food punches way above expectations, this is it. *Atmosphere: depending on when you come, inside can get packed and feel a bit small when the crowd fills in. The vibe is extremely casual and laid back, the kind of place you could easily make your own and become a regular without even trying. The live music in the evening was great, but definitely loud, both the band and the crowd. If you're coming for quiet conversation on live music nights, this isn't the place. However, the crowd, noise level, and how packed it gets really depends on when you come in. Weekday lunch is significantly quieter, but evenings after work and weekends, especially when there's a band, get loud and busy fast. They have a large outdoor patio, which is a nice plus, but it was pretty smoky when we were there. Nice energy, just not the best for non-smokers. *Service: there were a lot of servers working, and ours was very sweet, friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. Exactly what you hope for in a bar like this. I felt "taken care of" and you can't put a price on that. *Overall: casual, lively, loud, and far better food than you'd ever expect. If you want a laid-back local spot with great food, live music, and a neighborhood feel, this is a solid pick and one you could easily end up visiting regularly. I added a few burger and menu photos to help you get a feel. Highly recommend!
