I was fairly disappointed how loud the music was and we couldn't carry on conversation without raising our voices. The Mexicano has several locations in the Valley. This one is located by the mall in Chandler. We stopped by on a Friday night soon before close. I will say they close a little early on a Friday. Parking is a breeze in the large complimentary lot that surrounds the Mexican restaurant and bar. Ambiance (4.5/5): Trendy-looking Mexican restaurant. And a spacious one at that. Plenty of booth and table seating. We opted to sit at the bar. Pretty much the ideal restaurant experience for me. Nice without being stuffy. Service (4.5/5): Friendly service that was pretty efficient. What was awesome is they let us stay a good amount after close. Since they were cleaning up, they still had stuff to do, which allowed us to enjoy the experience without feeling rushed. Food (N/A): We had dinner prior so we were just there for drinks. They were nice enough to provide us with some free chips and salsa even though we were just having drinks. Two salsas, with one being a little too spicy for my taste. I can only handle a little kick. Good chips. I'll definitely have to come back for their food! Drinks (5/5): I appreciate it when a bar offers quality drinks that are creative. You'll find that at The Mexicano. Naturally, I went with the margarita flight which allows you to try four different frozen margs (prickly pear, lime, peach, and one more that's escaping me). And that's not all. They have a self-serve candy bar where you can add gummy bears, sour worms, and a variety of other candies to your margaritas. How cool! I've never seen anyone do this. If that wasn't enough, they have an all-day happy hour, every day of the week. I also haven't seen anything like that. Chef Joey is a genius! My wife, mother-in-law, and I had an absolutely fantastic experience at The Mexicano by Chef Joey. This is easily one of the best Mexican restaurants we've visited in a long time. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, with dim lighting and a really comfortable, mellow atmosphere. The décor is colorful and unique, with lush floral displays, hanging greenery, illuminated skulls, and a huge "THE MEXICANO" sign. It feels festive and energetic without being overwhelming. Our server, Hayden, was outstanding--friendly, upbeat, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. He helped guide us through everything and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. One of the biggest positives for us was learning that they don't use seed oils. They cook with beef tallow instead, and everything is made from scratch in-house, including the tortillas and desserts. You can absolutely taste the difference! My wife and mother-in-law ordered Long Island iced teas, which were very good and definitely strong. I had a double dirty martini that was extremely well made. We ordered five of the "Best Crispy Taco Ever" tacos and split them between the three of us. Honestly, the name fits. The beef tacos are wrapped in tortillas and deep-fried in beef tallow, then topped with lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo, cheese, crema fresca, and queso fresco. They were incredible. What impressed us most was that you could taste every individual ingredient instead of everything blending together into one big mush. The tortillas were perfectly crispy, the beef was flavorful, and all the fresh toppings worked beautifully together. My wife said they were the best tacos we've had in a long time, and I completely agree. The homemade refried beans were also excellent--rich, fresh, and full of flavor. They also have an interesting build-your-own margarita candy bar with more than 30 topping choices, including things like gummy bears, cotton candy, and Tajín rims. We didn't try it this time, but it's definately a fun and unusual feature. For dessert, we shared the pineapple flan, and it was absolutely incredible--the best flan I have ever had. It was light, exceptionally smooth, and full of flavor without being overly sweet. The consistency was perfect. It was beautifully presented in caramel sauce, topped with pineapple pieces and small dollops of cream, with a crisp rolled wafer alongside it on a decorative black-and-white plate. Everything we tried was outstanding, from the cocktails to the tacos, beans, and dessert. Between the scratch-made food, beef-tallow cooking, excellent service from Hayden, and relaxed atmosphere, this place completely earned its five stars. We will absolutely be back! read more

Finally made it to the Chandler local and Chef Joe outdoes himself again. So cute. Perfect place for a celebration and the food is just incredible. The salsa definitely had a kick but the chips are very light and fresh. The street corn nachos have so much flavor. We added carne asada and it was mouthwatering. The enchiladas have the right amount of sweetness to the sauce and the chicken was tender and juicy, the mango margarita is premade with the Chomay but there is a margarita bar where you can make your own. Service is hit and miss at every restaurant these days. Our server was kind but we saw him 2-3 times during the entire time for dinner. read more

I first heard about The Mexicano about two years ago from a coworker who enjoyed frequenting the Scottsdale location. I never made it over there but I have been to the Chandler location four times since they've opened and had a lovely experience every time. First was during restaurant week and it was so fun to try a variety of items for a very reasonable price. I loved the Chicharron guacamole, chicken enchiladas, and flan. The texture of the flan was clumpy but the flavor was amazing and I love that there was pineapple compote on top. I don't think I've ever had flan that way. Maitland was our server the first time and we were in such a hurry to make it to other plans and she did an amazing job ensuring we had the best experience in the shortest amount of time. I've also sat at the bar to enjoy the all day happy hour, which is such a great deal! Steven was attentive and thorough and helped facilitate when other guests were getting a little excited at the bar area. I have since tried a number of other menu items and I think the fajitas and corn cake are still my favorite! Sidenote: you can add an extra side of corn cake for $3 - highly recommend! This place basically turns into a nightclub after 7 PM on Friday and Saturday night. There are men dressed up in robot suits wandering all over the establishment dancing with the guests. There are guests dancing in the open space between booths and tables and the energy is out of this world! There were even women doing the limbo through the robots' legs lol! I died! My only suggestion for improvement would be to not serve the rice, beans, and corn cake on the sizzling plate of the fajitas because the plate is so hot that the beans, rice, and corn cake burn which is not an enjoyable flavor or texture for me. I have since started asking for that to be served on the side and I enjoy it much better! read more

Overall a bad experience. First time stopping in after my best friend recommended their happy hour. The prices are really good but the food was really not! We ordered tacos, the ceviche, a few drinks and a couple unmemorable items. The tacos were basically inedible. The tacos arrived to our tables cold. The tortillas were undercooked and the meat was dry and flavorless. The ceviche had a weird flavor.. tasted off. We had a couple bites before deciding to stop consuming. We ordered a few margaritas that were decent. It just took forever to get to our table. We would place an order for a drink and it would take 15 mins to arrive. Our server was basically nonexistent because she was busy with a bunch of other tables. We would have to wave her down or wave down other servers to ask her to drop by. Management stopped by and I let them know I did not like the tacos. The managers excuse was that the restaurant was cold that's why the tacos arrived to the table cold lol. The Mexicano in Chandler wasn't too busy for a Sunday afternoon, and we were seated right away on the outdoor patio. Despite the Arizona heat, they had mist sprays outside that kept the patio feeling nice and cool. The aesthetic of the restaurant is decorated with gorgeous florals and bright colors. Everything looked "picture worthy" from the moment you enter. The service was friendly as well. We were given complimentary chips and salsa for the table to start. We ordered "THE BEST F#*%ING BIRRIA ENCHILADAS" ($23) to share, along with a frozen margarita from the happy hour menu ($5) and a couple of Mexican candy shots. Everything was delicious overall, but my only critique is that the enchiladas could have been packed with a bit more meat. The frozen margarita tasted pretty strong, but I'm not complaining lol. The service at this location was exceptional. The host was very friendly when he seated us, the manager came over to check on us, and the waitress was very attentive. The décor is vibrant, eye-catching, and beautifully curated--those statement chandeliers, lush floral walls, and pops of color everywhere make it feel upscale yet fun at the same time. This is my second review on this restaurant. Once again, another five star experience! The restaurant was pretty busy and there were quite a few people waiting outside. We had a reservation and were seated within about five minutes. The main reason for writing this review was due to the fantastic service that we received from Heidi. She was super sweet, very efficient and gave a great suggestions. We decided to go with all of her suggestions. I wasn't super hungry so I decided to have a margarita for dinner! Heidi recommended the Mangonada. It was very good with a fresh mango taste. I loved the Tajin on the rim. To start Heidi recommended their house made traditional guacamole. Which is made fresh to order. I love the addition of the pomegranate seeds.They give it a bright refreshing flavor. Definitely a must try. For an entrée, my husband and I shared the ENCHILADA DIVORCIADA! It was fantastic! It came with three different enchiladas. The best f#*%ing birria,(yes that's what it's called on the menu),chicken tinga, mexican cheese blend accompanied by crema fresca, cilantro, pico de gallo, queso fresco. And the ambience at this restaurant is top notch not sure I've ever been in a restaurant that's quite like it. Please see my photos below. I have such mixed feelings about this place. The food and drinks are fantastic! The decor and general vibe, next to paradise! The service however, has been a miss all three times we've been in. The location is large so maybe they just need to add to their team and do a little additional customer care training with everyone. We came in Saturday afternoon to a small lobby area where a gal was already waiting to be sat and when the third group walked in that lobby got even smaller. We waited for about 5 minutes for the hostess who came off cold and unbothered in leaving customers waiting as the other team members took notice of the filling lobby with no one checking in to let us know we'd be assisted soon. The hostess proceeded to tell us she'd be seating us outside, no offer of sitting inside at all and not once did she acknowledge her absence or offer any sort of greeting, not even a smile. When you're the first person the customer interacts with at business I feel it good practice to create a welcoming atmosphere that represents the space you're entering. Especially a place like this that is known for a fun, lively atmosphere. We were sat outside and our waitress was very sweet and got us taken care of with water, food, and drinks pretty quickly. It was a lot cooler than expected on the patio which was awesome, as I was worried about sitting outside when it was 104. Great job with that Mexicano! But once we got our food our waitress stopped by to check in once and we didn't really see her until the end of our meal after that. No refills on water or check-in to see if we wanted additional drinks (which I feel like happened the last time we were in as well). There's a gentleman with a tiger tattoo on the back of his neck who stops in at some people's tables to check in and have chat, he's never stopped in with us.. it all just seems like the customer isn't a priority at this restaurant. The food is delicious, the drinks are great but for the prices, I want to feel more valued. I want to have that fun experience of going out for drinks in a vibrant high-end cantina where you feel connected with the staff. We'll go back but I would really love to see a more engaged customer support team. read more

Been checking out the Mexicano for a couple of months now and finally decided to stop in. It was happy hour time, so I took advantage of their $2.50 tacos. I am not a big margaritas fan, so I skipped their drinks and just went with water. I got three tacos and added a side of their beans. I got a chicken tinga, carne asada, and potato taco. Omg! All three were nothing short of amazing. Every bite, delicious, authentic, and super flavorful. I love that the potato taco came crispy and was topped with this amazing crema and cojita cheese crumbles!! #winning The service was also amazing and attentive as well with Steve checking on me regularly and keeping my water full. Minus one star for the beans that clearly came straight out of a can. No seasoning was added AT ALL. What saved it was their amazing salsa that came with the chips and salsa that they brought out before the meal. If it were not for that salsa nothing would have helped or saved these beans--please do better! Otherwise everything else was great! read more

This place is funn! We got a Classico & frozen Mangonada margarita to start & they give you chips and salsa once you are seated. We ordered the Queso Birria Tacos and the Birria Vampiro style tacos and split them. They both had great flavors and came with rice and beans and a corn tamale cake. As we were finishing up the staff started handing out balloons to everyone in the restaurant and then this man came out dressed in a transformer costume on stilts and danced and made balloon animals for everyone. It was funny and interactive, they said on Friday and Saturday nights that's the entertainment. All of the staff is incredibly friendly as are the greeters and people who seat you. So happy the Mexicano is in Chandler now! One of my favorite Mexican restaurants to go to. My first time here at this location and it did not disappoint! Location wise, it's perfect. Right beside the 101 and the mall. Very easy to get to. The inside is a vibe! From the design, decorations, all the way to the music, just sets the tone for an awesome visit. Stopped in for HH recently. Great menu and prices! Definitely recommend their margaritas. Taste so good and are a great size too! Food wise, the nachos are to die for. Holy cow! Cannot recommend The Mexicano enough. Absolutely need to come back to try more of the menu. The food is delicious and authentic. We have been to The Mexicano a handful of times. And the food has always been decent. But I've never been super impressed. This time I had The Fuego combo. My favorite thing was the crunchy taco. The chilly Relleno was good but wasn't great. The enchiladas were decent too. The beans and rice are not my favorite and I feel like they both lack seasoning. Friendly, attentive, and professional even with how busy and energetic the restaurant gets. If you want quiet and traditional, this may not be your spot. We came in during the end of the week sometime. They were pretty busy, but bar was open seating and we got really lucky and found two seats open, five minutes in. I was craving a molcajete, so I knew exactly what I wanted. The food was great, the price point was pretty accurate. I do wish that there was a bit more meat given as well as the sides, but we will live. The bartenders were fantastic, they looked like they actually enjoyed being at work. Great energy! The place is beautifully decorated, great fun atmosphere, even a live performer that night handing out balloons and jumping along with the music in a robotic looking outfit, and had a live DJ. My wife and I went to The Mexicano for dinner since we hadn't been there before. We arrived around 5:30 on a Friday and were able to get a table right away. The restaurant was busy and we got lucky to get a table. The inside of the restaurant is decorated really well. There was a DJ playing music which was cool but made it more of a party atmosphere and difficult to have a conversation. Along with the DJ, there was a staff member pushing around a cart with shots and when someone would do the shot, the staff member would blow a whistle. This reminded me of my college days going to a Mexican bar. Our server was attentive and quickly took our drink order. My wife ordered a Nina Fresa and I got a beer. We were provided with some chips and salsa which were both really good. When the drinks came out, my wife loved hers so I had to try it. It was delicious! We ordered the Tuna Tostadas for an appetizer, and we both got the Taco Trio plates. We each got a Queso Birria, The Best Crispy Beef Taco Ever, then I got a Carne Asada taco, and my wife got a Pork Loin Al Pastor taco. The Tuna Tostadas were okay, the tuna was good with fresh avocado but the tostadas were the size of round chips and we weren't fans of the salsa macha. We have mixed reviews of the tacos. We both thought the Queso Birria taco would have been better, my wife thought it was too salty. The crispy beef taco was okay but definitely not the best. The carne asada taco was good. The pastor taco was a slice of pork and not the typical chopped up meat. My wife said it didn't have much flavor and was just not great. I thought the beans were good and the rice was okay. This place is cool and while the food didn't all live up to our expectations, we will go back to try some other things. I went to this restaurant earlier this week on a Tuesday, and I'm so glad my friend made a reservation ahead of time. There wasn't any note in reviews that I saw saying a reservation was needed, but the place was absolutely packed. I've seen a few reviews mention that the music is too loud, and while the music was definitely present, I didn't find it overwhelming at all. We could easily hear each other talk, and honestly, the music was great. It really transported you to Mexico: lively, upbeat, and full of energy! The décor is stunning, with vibrant colors and beautiful details everywhere. We came planning to have a full meal but ended up grabbing a beer and a few appetizers, plus dessert (of course). While there were a couple of small things that could technically make this a four-star experience, I truly think this place deserves five stars. From the food and service to the music and overall ambiance, the experience was fantastic. You almost feel out of place when you walk back outside since it's located in a mall plaza, it's such an immersive environment inside. The Tostilocos experience was a lot of fun (on their appetizers menu). Even though they weren't my favorite Tostilocos I've ever had, it was still really cool that they offer it. The churros were average but tasty; however, the sauces served with them were cold, which was a bit disappointing since they would've been much better warm. That said, the absolute star of the night was the green chile empanadas. I'm genuinely sad there were only three because they were to die for!! I could've easily eaten twelve. I came here with some family for a nice lunch. The building is so cute inside, I loved all the decor. Me and my family were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The menu is a decent size with lots of stuff to choose from. They even have different guacamole options! There is also a fair amount of drinks to choose from. I personally ordered a margarita flight. The margaritas were pretty good. I don't remember all the flavors but I'm sure I had at least a mango, original, and strawberry. The drinks were a little bit on the stronger tasting side but I enjoyed them. For food, I ordered myself some enchiladas. They came with red and green sauce so I got to try both. The green sauce was a bit tastier to me but both were very enjoyable. My enchilada plate also came with sides which were very good too. However, it was a lot of food and I could not finish it. The bathrooms here are also kept very clean. Overall, I would definitely return here for drinks and food again. I can't wait to try something new! read more

I dined on their back patio for a late solo working lunch and the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. When I say beautiful I mean above and beyond top tier beautiful! The inside was sleek, dim and contemporary. The outdoor bar and patio was huge and open and had stunning wall terraces w flowers on them everywhere. It had a definite garden vibe. The bar menu for happy hour was available and the amount of fabulous food for the price was amazing. I got chicken nachos for $9 w plenty left to take home to go too. Their margaritas were a good size and $5. I also highly recommend the distilled spring water-it was so good. My server was such a gentleman and so helpful w the menu items and on top of things frequently checking in on me. As was the front hostess who may also have been the manager I couldn't tell, but she stopped and talked w me a couple times and apparently they've just recently finished remodeling and have only been there for 6-7 months so she is hoping to spread the news to come check them out and here I am on Yelp doing just that! I have heard a lot of hype about this place so we decided to take some out of town guests for dinner. The inside is decorated so fun and lively. Lots of bright and interesting things to look at. We went for dinner at 4 PM and were seated right away. No need for a reservation at that time. We started with the Queso Fundido. I did not care for this. To me it tasted very artificial. The salsa, however, was quite tasty. It had the perfect combination of spice and heat. The chips they paired it with were quite disappointing. Not enough flavor or crunch. I had the "best f***ing burrito". It was a good size, but very bland which was disappointing. I was able to douse it with salsa which made it better. The rest of the table had the carne asada burrito, enchiladas, tacos and the Caesar salad with chicken. The overall consensus was that the dishes needed more flavor. We came here after seeing it had a 4.1 rating on Yelp, and honestly--I don't get it. This place deserves a full 5 stars. The food was phenomenal. We started with the Quesa Birria egg rolls, pork empanadas, and guacamole, and everything was incredible. We were already full from the appetizers before our main meal even came. We ended up sharing the chicken enchiladas, and they were just as amazing. The atmosphere is beautiful--we sat out on the patio and it made the whole experience even better. Service was top-notch, and even the manager came over to check on us and chat for a bit, which we really appreciated. Everything from start to finish was just that good. I went here last weekend, and I wish the food had been forgettable. Unfortunately, the overwhelming impression was dry. Not a lot of filling in the tacos or the enchiladas--more green than red sauce on the enchiladas, which isn't saying much aaaaand was a bummer because the red was much better. The sweet corn tamale was overcooked and dry. Beans lacked flavor and were dry. Don't worry--it's also very overpriced. Oh! And! Service was not good. Three rapid fire are you ready to order within five minutes of being seated after the yes it's our first time here server intro question. No refills on water or drinks--amplified the dry theme. One star for the music and lighted flower decor. One star for a passing staff member who asked to see if my mom needed help getting out of the booth. Not worth your time unless you don't care about the food. Definitely not gonna be an updated review opportunity for me. read more
